@justanotherfan Great point about Lebron. I don't want to get into it much and stir things up but I very much agree with you.

A great movie I watched not too long ago from the 70s called Being There touched on these subjects somewhat. Basically if you are white, wear a nice suit and speak in platitudes you can succeed in American politics, almost no matter how dumb you are...

Only the 3rd OK prep player to be offered by KU since Xavier Henry played at KU. Other two being Trae Young and Nino Jackson. Thanks to Sam Duren via twitter for this nugget, I wouldn't have thought about it. Ended up dm'ing with some old OK hoop heads about Nino. Man that kid could ball.

@BeddieKU23 Yeah doesn't take much digging tbh.

Bryce is very active on twitter and has put out the same kind of message about every offer but it does seem like this one is special for him.

It would be pretty damn cool for Self. This would have to be his first father/son combo coached. :D

I won't be surprised if Thompson pops early (for KU duh).

@jaybate-1.0 If he wants to, I'd be all for it. Might not need the big practice body next season though. Should be stocked more to normal Self standards.

All I'm really saying is the players have more value than what the NCAA provides.

I'm all for what statmachine suggested in letting them go straight to the NBA again.

Langford β€’ Apr 23, 2018 07:33 PM

@Kcmatt7 You are right. Once I saw KU wasn't involved in the article I skimmed it.

Obviously it doesn't really work in the delusional fantasy world the NCAA parades, because most players were getting paid one way or another.

@BShark Meh, fine with that. That article made it sound like he was a Spring commit and will be waiting out everyone and seeing where he can go to start immediately. Not sure that opportunity would exist here for him.

You mean Hall? KU is definitely in on better targets. If he is really waiting until next spring he's the kind of guy you keep the fires warm on while seeing if you strike out on Achiuwa, Lawson, Jalen Wilson and Josh Green.

Hell depending on development maybe you take Sam Williamson first too. And I'm not sure where Leech is at after his bad injury or even if he is still playing basketball but if he healed up okay he is an intriguing prospect too.

Yeah the big difference is that wasn't a hit piece. Seemed reasonable.

2019 Recruiting β€’ Apr 23, 2018 01:05 AM

@Kcmatt7 Agree. Unfortunate that KU was never really a player for him but like you said it's best to be out now. Looks like KU has been prioritizing other recruits anyway.

Some of both. Hurt and JRE have been top targets all along and never put in the work that the rest have.

Also Nike. That's the main reason I never figured he'd end up at KU.

I'll be watching this year even though USA is out. Starts up in June. Not sure if there are any other footy fans here, actually easily my #2 sport behind basketball.

Anyway I was watching some old games and I gotta say, any time someone complains about the refs the South Korea Italy game in 2002 is my new go to for showing what a fixed game really looks like. I actually root against Italy most of the time but wow that game was a complete travesty.

Okongwu is almost certainly staying in California. His guy at UCLA just took another job at Cal, so they may get him. Not sure KU is that interested anyway. Lecque is an absolute stud. Love his game. He was originally a 2018 kid but went to 2019 about a year ago. He may come back to 2018, but probably not until late summer. I don't expect KU to really be involved either way. I think they should go after him if we miss on Romeo. Grimes is big enough to play the 3, and Jalen can play the 2. I think Tait is wrong on how big Jalen is too. He's nearly 6'4 now I believe. Isaiah is probably going to Duke. I like Kofi, but he's not really a need. Brown is a small ball 4 man at this stage, probably staying in the South. Hurt is the target there. Josh Green is legit, and KU has a good shot. Was pretty good at the Hoop Summit on the international team (he's Australian).

Yeah, not the best researched article. Didn't even mention Duke in the bit about Cole Anthony and he will probably end up there.

I would be stunned if Okongwu ends up anywhere besides UCLA.

Grimes mocking at #6 in next year's draft makes it seem unlikely he'll be a multi-year player. We'll see if he plays up to the lofty projections they are making for him.

He wants to be OAD. If he will be lottery he should absolutely go. Just plug in RJ Hampton for him. Boom.

Statmachine said:

Bill is clean or KU would be another OAD factory. Its really simple. Self has the resources to flip the switch and make KU another OAD playground but he has not. Miller sold his soul to the OAD devil and lost. As much as I cant stand Calipari he could be doing things the legal way? Duke maybe? The cold hard truth is that KU is just as strong a brand as any and has yet to land 3 in the top 10 like the other schools listed. I do not believe that Bill Self is involved at all! I can not say that for the other 2 schools I just listed. Yeah Pat, go f–k yourself.

Elijah Johnson walked around Lawrence with some FAT rolls. I mean, maybe they just appeared in his dorm, who knows...

@Crimsonorblue22 If Bill really is clean, I don't think he cares what anyone is saying about him. Especially jealous little bitches.

Pre John Calipari UK was not an OAD factory. Pre Sean Miller Arizona was not an OAD factory. Duke is Duke and their coach has been there forever so he has either jumped on the train OR he has just been able to out recruit and land top recruits at a high rate without using dead presidents. It is well documented and speculated that Calipari is linked to WorldWide Wes and through connections he has been assisting UK with recruiting. http://www.fromthisseat.com/index.php/blog/19112-are-kentucky-s-john-calipari-and-william-worldwide-wes-wesley-cheating-the-system β†— Now you have other schools that will hire a recruits family member to funnel a couple of guys in like the Porters. KU has used that totally legal loop hole in the past but there was MONEY involved there too (as far as someone was getting a pay raise)! It is pretty obvious that the majority of these OAD's attend a handful of schools. The OAD's are the only guys an agent or agency would take a 100k gamble on. I read somewhere that Vegas is where most of these money transfers take place. If an agent goes in and buys 100k worth of chips and places them in the hands of a top recruits handler and the handler cashes them in and claims them as winnings it is untraceable. Sounded legit? All I am saying is that IF Self wanted to purchase players then KU would also be an OAD factory. He would be landing 4-5 OAD's every year just like these other schools. If anyone should be worried it should be UK and possibly Duke. Just my opinion here guys!

Plenty of non-OADs get paid too. Angel Morris had a nice job for Doug Compton lol.

Ryan seems to think if RJ joins 19 and picks KU Markese would open it back up. Not an earth shattering statement to make given RJ is a Top 10 player in whatever class he decides on but one of the more vocal KU supporters in recent memory simply might be over-recruited..

Yeah I hope we keep Markese. Take him and RJ, have Markese develop for a year before really playing. Provided KU has the room.
