Are we done recruiting? β€’ Nov 06, 2017 06:19 PM

Careful, we don't need that kind of karma coming back on us. It would be funny but we know how recruiting goes.

Agree. It works in cycles. UK also had a "down class" in terms of missing out on top targets in 2015. On paper the class still looked fine, they just had a lot of misses. At the end of the day Cal is going to fill the roster and of course then Cal fell ass backwards into Jamal Murray in that class.

UK fans didn't want to believe Slater when he said UK wasn't well positioned in this class. Of course Slater also said he fully expect UK to kill it in 2019.

To quote a current commit: "KU LETS GOOOO  :basketball: :blue_heart: "

@BeddieKU23 He hasn't even set an announcement date, but it's Oregon, obviously. With the way news leaked I would assume he is a silent commit already.

Vandy or UNC for Shittu.

Nike wasn't going to let Barrett get away. Duke's class is going to be completely absurd.

Brown is a project but a big kid with some talent to work with. I'd honestly like to see him go anywhere but UK

Looks like UK might have ran out of other options. I don't think Cal wants to take Brown. He might not offer until Bol makes it official for Oregon. With Barrett looking Duke bound he probably regrets not going after Shittu.

The 1997 team was by far the best team KU had in "recent" memory. Just ran into a hot Bibby and Simon which is pretty common in the NCAA tourney. 97 was loaded; unfortunately, Billy Thomas is still chucking up 3's that are bangin off the back of the rim. Pollard and Haase had something incredibly low like 2 shots combined and 0 points between them if memory serves me right. I'm too bitter about the game to look up the real stats. My KU - PTSD gets triggered quite quickly if I look at that.

A young BShark may have cried after this game.

I can't force myself to look but looks like Moses Brown and Kentucky is becoming a thing. That Maryland board must be SALTY.

They were take it or leave it with Brown tbh.

I'm howling though. UK writers said Cal might not take a big in this class. None were up to his standard. :joy: :joy: :joy: :joy: :joy: :joy: :joy: :joy: :joy: :joy: :joy: :joy: :joy: :joy: :joy: :joy: :joy: :joy: :joy: :joy: :joy: :joy: :joy: :joy: :joy: :joy: :joy: :joy: :joy: :joy: :joy: :joy: :joy: :joy: :joy: :joy: :joy: :joy: :joy: :joy: :joy: :joy: :joy: :joy: :joy: :joy: :joy: :joy: :joy: :joy: :joy: :joy: :joy: :joy: :joy: :joy: :joy: :joy: :joy: :joy: :joy: :joy: :joy: :joy: :joy: :joy: :joy: :joy: :joy: :joy: :joy: :joy: :joy: :joy: :joy: :joy: :joy: :joy: :joy: :joy: :joy: :joy: :joy: :joy: :joy: :joy: :joy: :joy: :joy: :joy: :joy: :joy: :joy:

Doesn't mean anything per se but Jalen seems waaaaaaaaay more excited about his KU offer than Baker.

FarmerJayhawk said:

Dedric would start on almost any team in America right now. Putting up 19/12 is no joke. He’s going to be an absolute monster once Hudy gets done with him. Keep in mind he was putting up those numbers as one of the least athletic guys in the country.

Incredibly skilled player. Preston and Dedric are two of the most skilled post forwards Self has ever had. If Dedric could play this year I'd put KU as the title favourite.

...and this does not even include the 3 quality transfers who will also be able to play and were all 4 stars, Dedrick #37, KJ #54 and Moore #55 and who compared to newcomers Dedrick would certainly be a 5 star and the others pretty close to it. Monster class when all incoming players are considered.

I'd a take a RS JR Dedric Lawson over any one post recruit in the 2018 class. Not close. Moore and KJ are solid bench contributors.

@wrwlumpy A pleasure as always!

Dotson, Grimes, McCormack, De Sousa -- one of Self's best classes, not a presumed OAD to be found. Just need Grimes to join the party.

Grimes and Silvio could be. I do think Silvio is at least a two year guy unless his handler(s) are dead set on it.

Dotson and McCormack should be 3+ year guys. If Dotson absolutely explodes maybe only two years but that season probably ends very well for KU...

You can't drop football, don't be crazy.

2012 for sure. That team really had no business being in the title game.

He's just a bitter person that gets his enjoyment out of attempting to rile up KU fans. My guess @elpoyo is a Missouri or KSU grad.

@DoubleDD I think you can have a special season w/o winning it all. It's not the BEST POSSIBLE season, but only one team gets that, and it's single elimination. Meh.

Yeah, neither one is shy, especially on the court. You never want to tell a player not to shoot it, but I'm hoping both can improve their shot selection.

Georgia Tech and Auburn holding back multiple players due to eligibility concerns. One related to the FBI probe. 3 of the 4 listed on NBA radar's for next years draft...

Avery Johnson at Alabama did not handle questions that well.

Just everything about how Self/KU have handled this makes me feel better.

Brian Bowen β€’ Nov 03, 2017 03:12 PM

BeddieKU23 said:

I still have some questions. Why was Bowen listed in the probe if he's now free of any wrongdoing?

Maybe he really didn't do anything wrong but who's going to believe that he went to Louisville on his own free will. Who? Anyone who followed his recruitment knows this was one of the stranger one's you see yearly. He went from not on Louisville's radar to committing to them in a few weeks span. How likely is it that Bowen is going to throw his father under the bus here just so he can play his one year and leave? If the NCAA lets him play then Emmert is correct, the NCAA can't control anything anymore.

And if your Louisville why would you want Bowen playing for you. After all he's apart of the domino effect for why they have a fired HOF coach, 2 assistance's gone and pending further punishment.

His choice would have been Michigan State in a clean recruitment. Hell he wanted to pick them in a dirty recruitment where they were NOT willing to pay, but his dad wouldn't have it. You probably already know this, mostly posted for those that don't follow recruiting in general that much.

@Lulufulu agree about the free throws for Dok but actually it hasn't been as bad as some feared. I think he's shot like 3/6 against both Missouri and Pitt state. For him that's not bad and better than 30 or 40%.

I'd kill for like 55% season average from Doke.

Brian Bowen β€’ Nov 03, 2017 01:39 PM

Cliff very likely would have stayed for year two if not for that loan crap.

Last night observations β€’ Nov 03, 2017 01:33 PM

stoptheflop said:

@Lulufulu I'm concerned about Lightfoot's lack of rebounds. In 25 min., he only had one rebound. He's so active that it surprises me he isn't rebounding better.

At this point, he is essentially a walk-on. Which...is fine. The end of the bench is generally not going to be super talented, kids want to play after all. The big issue is because of roster construction and having to take transfers he is the third big. He is the #8/9 instead of #12/13. There is a reason players like SDS and McCormack are not afraid to commit. They will be slotting into 2/3 or 3/4 in the post rotation immediately. The slot change depends on what Doke does.

You mean to tell me he went to Louisville on his own accord and not because someone in his family was paid?? Wow

This is Cliff Alexander 2.0..

On the bright side this means no one is getting in serious trouble right? What a farce the great college hoops clean-up has been.

To add, recruiting is funny. It might change before the final rankings as it is still early for 2019 kids but Jacobs is ranked a lot lower than Sherfield on 247 (composite is actually similar). Credit to the staff for trusting their OWN evaluation.

Post DD Day Commitment Recruiting Thread β€’ Nov 02, 2017 09:03 PM

One time KU target Grant Sherfield to UCLA. Was a Kansas kid that moved to Texas. Seems like KU preferred Jacobs over him and backed off. Matt Scott said he didn't develop as KU had hoped he would.

Every year, same thing. Many of us are only happy with a National Championship because we are spoiled by the continued success. But that's reality for me. It is all that will ultimately make me happy. Without that, still an empty feeling. But I will enjoy the ride. We have a team (again) that can win it all. With our pud schedule, we'll have to collapse to not get a #1 seed.

Agree on pretty much all accounts.

One year KU will finally not win the league, may even miss the tournament. We will all be shocked, because we are so spoiled.
