the trade happened with the Dolphins
That would be a big upset imo, I don't see Arkansas having the offense but they have athletes..
Tack on 5 more years of punishment says the NCAA
I don't think his rank matches his tape at all so I agree. I see tools of a guy who might be something to look at down the road once developed but he committed to Missouri so that says all I need to know. It seems like KU took a similar approach here. They obviously were okay with him going elsewhere.
Don't think he's KU level tbh.
Proven production at a good Mid-Major as a freshman.
Watched some highlights. Not Och level athlete from what I saw but range on his 3 point shot and appears to have a midrange. Almost looked like he was playing the 4 spot at Belmont which at 6'5 seems weird but they looked like a small team. From Georgia, was the 29th ranked player in Georgia (#328 composite). In any case I think he ends up at Power 5
7 Top 100 2022 prospects have decommitted so far in March. Interesting twists
A very intriguing transfer from Belmont.
Freshman guard Will Richard 6'5 averaged 12 & 6 on near 47% shooting. Had two 20 point games, scored double figures in 23/33 games, 47 made 3's, 80% from the line. Definitely that big guard with upside. This one will have lots of suitors.
Allen is a 23 recruit. Another 5 star 23 recruit decommitted in Robert Dillingham from NC St. KU was also recruiting him to some degree
FSU was salty he didn't commit to them initially and made it worse going to the Gators. Will be interesting to see where that one goes.
One I'm watching to see where he ends up. Grant Basile of Wright State. The 6'9 Jr C averaged close to 19ppg and 8 boards. From Wisconsin so perhaps going to @wissox join the badgers. He was good in both tournament games
Portal approaching 650 and likely to top 700 by end of day. So far more quantity then quality
Wow huge honor and we'll deserved.
We got ourselves a dude
Despite Memphis having athletes I was surprised to see the game going the way it did. I think Gonzaga suffered in some way from the same issues we had against Creighton- all the pressure was on KU/Zaga to perform and it certainly appeared that both teams were tight and not playing to their strengths for a portion of the game. To both teams credit they were able to adjust and make the winning plays to win but neither game was easy.
The thing that stuck out to me early in the KU game was that Ochai Agbaji did not seem engaged in the game. It felt like the team kind of played off that energy until Remy became a difference maker for large stretches. I also thought Dajuan was not the catalyst we needed at the PG spot with the way they were hedging the post and playing way off him. Then as the game went on we saw CB, Jalen & others get involved and getting more relaxed. I really didn't think our defense was poor, Creighton just shot out of their mind like Kentucky did to us in Allen in late January. It's really difficult to beat teams that shoot way above their pay grade as Creighton did. I thought Gonzaga got punched in the mouth pretty good that first half and then they adjusted and pulled it out with Timme being a huge factor as you mentioned. Nembhard was also a big reason they advanced as well. But I did leave their game thinking they are a bit vulnerable going forward and they will have to play a lot better to advance. Perhaps my expectation was out of place with that game.
I will say this, I'm confident our guys got that pressure game out of the way because I don't think they played above their "b" level game and still found a way to win. We got exposed playing "big" and had to adjust and survived a team that was motivated for the upset given their injuries. Our best players made winning plays and was the difference. But we need more from Ochai going forward and we should expect more. I was a bit disappointed for a while until he made some winning plays late.
I'd say the keys to potentially beating Gonzaga would be Ochai playing at his All-American level, getting consistent production from our starters and having that x-factor off the bench in Remy ready to score. Defensively I really don't know the answer other then forcing them to miss shots, forcing them below their averages and rebounding the ball well. Baylor had the formula for them last year when they had a better team overall but I think this Gonzaga team has the x-factor in Holmgren that no other team can match. When Timme plays at his highest level I'm not sure he's defendable either. I have a ton of respect for those two players. All hypotheticals at this point. We've seen KU's defense really buckle down when they want to and I would hope that kind of defensive effort is there in the biggest game. All hypotheticals at this point
Ochai was named 1 of 4 finalists for National Player of the Year. What an honor and achievement to make it to that final list.
Would be surprised if he won it but I'll be hoping for it
Johnny Davis, Oscar Tshiebwe & Keegan Murray are the other finalists.
If we make it that far I'll believe we can do anything. Matchup wise I think Gonzaga (as I've said for months) is the worst matchup for KU.
Some hope: With how Gonzaga has played in its first two games I'd say their chances of making the finals have diminished. Georgia St gave them a game until midway in the 2nd half after their big went down with injury and they just couldn't guard Timme/Holmgren in the last 10 minutes. Memphis had them down 10 at halftime and it took a heck of a comeback to gut out that victory as well. Conclusion: they haven't looked like the #1 overall seed so far. Their defense has looked leaky while the offense and tempo they play with has been as advertised.
Who guards Timme? We've played against him before and he ate our lunch. Who guards Holmgren? Every team says the same thing. Holmgren is the rim protector we fear to see camping the lane. And he'll tap the ball to himself, dribble the length of the floor like a guard and dunk on you. So rare to see in a player. I also think Nembhard would be a bad matchup for Harris/Remy. His size at the position makes him a difficult matchup. Basically Gonzaga would have the advantage in the post and at the PG position and that's tough to overcome. Perhaps Remy has another gear (from the one he's already at) and forces Self to play him even more then he is right now.
As a team Gonzaga is Top 10 in tempo, they play fast and they are used to doing it at a high level. Transition defense would be a huge concern for me on any missed shot. We know this KU team likes to play fast and in transition and perhaps that style actually evens out other advantages I think Gonzaga has. It's been a while since a team tried to run consistently against KU and I'm not sure what our response would be to that as the game wore on.

Portal approaching 550. Wouldn't be surprised to see 2 to 300 more names in by the end of the week.
I wonder if they want some salt with their fries today
Agree he looks decent but not a need for us. I have seen his initial contact list and its long..
Been a theme for him lately.
Interesting enough Miami is midpack in tempo nationally. They do have a Top 20 offense though so I think the way we play would facilitate lots of possessions. Miami is not a good defensive team, they are by far the worst team left on that end and that's saying something since Purdon't is still alive.

@BeddieKU23 Can he block shots?
1.3 per game. 99 career blocks in 3 seasons. Has 2 seasons to play but will explore professional options first before entertaining colleges. Is definitely looking to go somewhere to win. Made 20 3's on the year as well. Given his size I think some of his stats are inflated due to competition. Did have 24 and 22 against BYU in their win & 15 & 15 against Washington. Hasn't played against a lot of top competition from the looks of it.
Biggest name on the market so far- Fardaws Aimaq, Utah Valley WAC player of the year, 6'11 245 mountain averaged 18ppg 13 rebounds per game. Going to have one of the longest lists out there..
FYI KU hasn't been one of the programs to contact Allen yet. Probably due to the fact we are still playing LOL
Couldn't agree more about the officiating. The TCU end of game is just a horrible look on an easy call to make. I saw good chunks or all of most games in the last 4 days and I don't know what the rule book is anymore.
Examples: Michigan St with 4 team fouls, questionable hack under the basket. Looked like he got some ball on the steal attempt. Call it a good foul call. 2 consecutive fouls called without the ball being inbounded after to get Duke to the bonus. Saw lots of social media commenting on that sequence.
Purdue shot 70 something free throws in 2 games including 46 against Texas. Texas had something like 13 attempts. We all know Texas fouls like it's their job but the disparity is alarming.
The Baylor/UNC game was poorly officated. How they didn't T up Jeremy Sochan for his antics in the post with Bacot was disturbing among other things. There were several over the top plays that led to the Manek ejection. From there the officiating completely changed the game.

TCU was robbed.
Oh the video of Miles getting clobbered at half court just looks even worse every time I watch it. I just cannot fathom how that's not called a foul.
Would absolve the pain of 2020 for sure
Yeah the film on Allen is good and rated appropriately.
Agree I'm torn on Dave but if he returns I'm okay with it at this point. We know what we are getting from him and expecting any of the returning bigs/newcomers to provide what he can when fully healthy, even hobbled is unrealistic in Self's system. Dave could mentor Zach/KJ another year and the two giants coming another season. I think its important we keep Dave if he wants to stay and get his masters finished. He has his limitations but I respect how hard he's playing with that bum foot. We shall see
If things play out the way we want them to its probably a good thing everything that's happened, happened. It's clear Remy is out to prove something, he's got a big chip on his shoulder right now. We may not have had that going for us with different circumstances.
We just have no need for Traore with what we have signed and what might return (Dave).
I know little about Allen besides he was interested in KU one day and committed to LSU the next. I just started grouping all these high rated kids going to LSU to lose and win nothing as caring about "other" things more then basketball..
It's hard to not look ahead with how our bracket has shaped up. Very excited and confident we can get there
No doubt Charlie has maxed out his maturity and skill level at Miami. Not even the same player he was at KU. He's a bit bigger too size wise, obviously not height but a thicker build then I remember. Good for him maximizing his career. It doesn't change the fact he was one of the poorest performing rotation guards KU has ever had. @DanR no exaggeration he used to take shots at KU without looking at the hoop and I could never figure out why..
If I remember correctly Charlie had some personal issues the year he was here?? Looks like the paths he took after KU were positive to get where he is.
What a start to the tournament. I just want to say how relieved, excited, exhausted & proud I am that we made the Sweet 16. Feels like a monkey off our back after the last 3 tournaments have given us a lot of dark moments. Last night was the best night of sleep I've gotten in close to a week. The anxious days waiting for the games, then the games are here and the suspense of waiting even longer due to OT games. It's all lived up to what I thought it could be and more. And it makes it even sweeter knowing we are still dancing.
The way the bracket has broken up how can we not feel a little confidence?? I don't remember us having a more favorable path to the Final 4 then we potentially have. All hands on deck for Providence which is a team we matchup with extremely well at every position. Kenpom ranks them #33, #32 offense, #58 defense. On the other side of the bracket potentially waiting are Iowa St and Miami (Kenpom #37 and #42 ranked teams). We know Iowa St & I hope they beat Miami.
Providence shoots 43% from the field as a team. They don't have a star & their big plays back to the basket. Nothing flashy about this teams identity. It's a collection of experienced players that have maxed out their abilities and have good chemistry. The key matchups looks like Jalen Wilson vs Noah Horchler & Dave vs Nate Watson. Horchler is basically Wilson with a better 3 pt shot so that matchup is very important. He can stretch it as we've seen in their two wins so far. Nate Watson can go off (8, 20 pt games this season) so keeping Dave out of foul trouble seems very important to controlling the paint. Watson for as big as he is, is not a good rebounder (only 5 a game). Self with 6 days to prepare, I'm betting on him every time.
How's everyone doing after the first weekend? Confident?? Hopeful??
Yeah. Talented kid. Just don't see it.. Kids that commit to LSU, we are probably better off avoiding if you catch my drift
Och sits in #16th place all-time after passing Wayne Simien. He is now 34 points away from #15 place. Come on Och have some big games!
Christian Braun needs 22 points for 1000. As I stated already if Braun returns for his senior year he's setup to finish in the Top 20. Already ahead of Och at the same point of their Jr years.
Big Dave is now tied for #47th all-time on the scoring list. He's got a chance to move up a few more spots before the end of this season.
Remy reaching 2000 points is now within real reach. Just 36 points away from reaching that incredible scoring feat.

Kenpom rating has been rising. Now the #9th best rating in the Self era. Torvik seems to like us a little more right now.
Iowa St looking good
We don't win without him
Did Iowa fans buy up all the Chicago tickets??
