If only Wiggins could be turned up like he gets playing Cleveland or his old team. He's done nothing wrong in the league but certainly not a generational talent like he was hyped to be. I think he's having perhaps his best season in the league with GS and it helps they are one of the best teams in the league. I've been impressed every time I've seen him this season

COVID Roll Call β€’ Dec 30, 2021 12:01 AM

Got boosted yesterday along with Wife. I had no symptoms other then sore at jab spot. Didn't react to the first two shots either. Went Moderna for all 3. Wife did Moderna for first two and was sick both times, especially the 2nd shot. She went for Phizer booster and has had symptoms after about 3 hrs and still going with fever, chills, aches. Oh and its my fault I'm not feeling sick! that's all i got for now

It's something we've been talking about for a year now. Covid basically skipped Vermont for the longest time so our initial talks were kind of a wait and see approach but Covid isn't avoiding where we live anymore with record cases and things hitting a little too close to home for comfort these days. Agree we'll be looking for data regarding children with this new variant.

Colorado game Canceled game thread β€’ Dec 23, 2021 11:41 AM

My son turns 5 in a few weeks. We've spoken to our pediatrician and we've done the research. The CDC reported in October at least 8300 kids aged 5-11 had been hospitalized with near 100 deaths due to Covid-19. As a parent that has a choice to make that can possibly prevent my son from becoming one of those statistics it weighs heavy on our hearts, it really does. We cannot imagine living with the decision not to vaccinate him if he was ever to get the virus and end up in the hospital etc. Everyone has the choice to make for their children and we feel its best at this time to get him his shot. Covid has hit too close to home recently (Aunt hospitalized, friend in ICU, another friend we know spent 2 months in ICU before recovery).

The long-term effects (if any) are certainly a concern. We just don't feel we can wait that long to find out. I do think we are doing the right thing.

Colorado Game recap β€’ Dec 22, 2021 12:11 PM

For once Bill Walton was tolerable. Zero mention of the conference of champions. Didn't have to use the mute button at all.

KU's defense gave up a season low in points. Kenpom still thinks our defense stinks though.

Self mentioned in the post game presser that he was pleased with how the guys handled the plane ride. Mentioned a good nights sleep, good walk-through. Mentioned Dave and Mitch really locked into the scouting report. Self "we've struggled over the years right before x-mas but tonight these guys bought in and really took care of business".

Thoughts on the game?

Sorry to hear your son has tested positive. Besides the sore throat any other symptoms?

My son will turn 5 in 3 weeks and I can't wait to get him his shot so he has a fighting chance. He's been tested 6 times this fall all negative as he's had a rash of colds since the temps started dipping in the 30's.

I live in the most vaccinated state and its just getting terrible here regardless of vaccine status.

My Aunt is currently in the hospital with Covid, vaccinated but underlying health conditions. So far Oxygen is helping her.

A friend of ours also in ICU right now, unsure if he got shots or not but a GoFundMe was started for him so its not looking good, Mid 30's, no known health issues. His wife works in the Hospital he's been treated in.

Stay Safe everyone this is just getting unreal.

Agree Och had by his high standards a very average game. Even the best of them are going to have a few games in a season where they don't have it all. Still I'm beyond impressed at his improvement this season. Same for CB. Those two guys are breathing different air.

KU's defense is last in ppg. Kenpom has them #38 nationally (8th best in Big-12).

The defense isn't good and it was an issue collectively and individually. Dave was the domino that set the game in another direction when he got 2 early fouls.

Not many are going to go around claiming KU's defense is good but when the offense doesn't play to its Top 5 capability everything becomes more noticeable. That wasn't even close to KU's best performance on offense and I think that's what really made it much closer then it should be.

I give credit to SFA's coach for knowing Self too well and making a defensive scheme that he knew would potentially slow down KU enough to keep them in the game and it worked. They were prepared well and gave KU a lot of issues getting into sets.

The 2 pt defense if horrific but that's what you get when you have to rotate Dave and Mitch at the 5.

Yeah teams are making 2's at an alarming rate. Mitch played 26 minutes on Saturday. Most of that was Dave's fault (getting into early foul trouble) but some of that is on coaching as well. They know the sweet spot for Mitch and they exceeded it by a lot. Didn't trust Zach after he gave up 1 basket (typical). I think Adams would have been used a lot if he wasn't sick since athletically he would have rebounded and disrupted shots at the rim.

I'm concerned for conference play. Today's poll has five B12 teams in the top 25 -Baylor, Kansas, Iowa St, Texas, Texas Tech. Oklahoma and West Virginia are right outside the the top 25 poll at 26th and 27th, respectively. Oklahoma St is receiving votes. TCU and KState aren't awful. Conference is insane this season.

8 defenses rated in the Top 40 as well. There isn't really a bottom to the conference so far. I think you can see that TCU, K-ST & Oklahoma St are not tournament teams currently but beating them in their gyms will not be easy by any means either

Nervous Christmas... Yin Yang Perspective β€’ Dec 20, 2021 05:46 PM

@drgnslayr

Maybe they got their flatness out of the way Saturday. They did have a week off between games (and I assume finals) and were playing a team coached by someone who used to be on Self's staff. You could tell Keller had those guys coached up well for this one. Seems like some were dealing with a cold etc as well which made things less then ideal leading up. Adams being out seemed like a big thing cause it felt like he really would have been a havoc down low athletically. We are missing Bobby as well so the little things are starting to pile up.

However logically I expect the flatness to continue further then 1 game. Self tends to get their attention with losses better then he does with average performances like Saturday. I'm expecting the Colorado game to be difficult.

Agree that was the first time we've seen Ochai revert back to old Och. I'd have to rewatch to see if SFA schemed to keep him quiet but missing a pair of easy dunks and a few wide open 3's seemed to make him less confident out there. Och has always thrived on making baskets and having that fuel the rest of his game so its no surprise that a few hiccups disrupted his normal routine. Still he got 18, 4 below his average and you wouldn't think he got double figures.

If anyone ever figures out Dave please let me know!

Great points. They really mixed up zone and man pressure well. Seems like they caught Self and the players a bit unprepared.

Concerns for Colorado game β€’ Dec 20, 2021 02:03 PM

The annual trap road game right before Christmas. Personally I think Self does it on purpose. We can schedule a home game and send the kids to their families but that's just not the way Bill does things. This has a chance to be an ugly game.

Let's talk the fallout from the SFA game where Adams & Harris were sick according to Self.

How cliche' was it for SFA to kill them with the High/Low. Had to be causing a system overload crash in Bill's hard-drive as he watched them pound it in time and time again.

KU's offense was probably a 'C' effort at best. Ochai missing dunks and open shots. This was also the first game we've seen this year where he went quiet for a large stretch. He gets 18 but you wouldn't think he did. I thought KU did a really poor job attacking their pressure. Seemed like we let SFA dictate where the ball was going. Credit to SFA for making life difficult. I think they played well above their pay grade in this one catching a KU team that kind of took them for granted in the first half.

It's remarkable after 4 years in the program that David McCormack can take himself out of an entire game with 37 minutes left but that's what he did. If your an opposing team looking to find the biggest weakness for this KU team look no further then that. It's a mess.

Then there's the Remy situation. Makes the big 3 to extend the lead to 6 to win the game. It's a play that Remy can make every single night. That's what he does. However Self was very critical of other plays in the game that Remy was apart of and for good reason. The give and take with Remy was on full display. Remy's defense was an issue Saturday but without him this game might not have ended positively.

Colorado is 9-3 and is in a bit of a rebuild. Beat Montana St in OT, Lost to Southern Illinois, beat Duquesne in OT, barely beat Brown, Stanford & Eastern Washington by under 5 pts. They haven't exactly blown away teams they are expected to beat.

If I recall correctly the last time we played in Colorado it was a very questionable buzzer beater that got us. I have tried hard to forget that day but that's what immediately comes to mind. Have we played them since??The altitude will be something they have to manage as well. Colorado is a big team, 3 of their top 5 scorers are post players. Jabari Walker is an inside/out dude, Evan Battey is a wide load that's added a 3 ball to his arsenal. Potentially they can give us a lot of problems down low again just like SFA did. Colorado also plays slow and plays solid defense which is a staple for them. Kenpom has them #72 on defense, held their last 3 opponents under 60 pts. UCLA and Tennessee scored 73 and 69, Stanford 76 so they can be scored on. #286 in tempo is probably the biggest reason why teams haven't been able to score on them.

Thoughts?
