huggy bear loves him some castaways. Maybe he'll get Tom Hanks on his squad one of these years.
Didn't B Rush join the team extremely late as well. Moss wasn't expected to be here before it was required due to what he needed to get done elsewhere

Thompson up to #14 in the new 247 rankings. Really hope Bill can land him.
Big time.
Love at #21 as well to note
Jalen Green is considering skipping College and going pro for a year. #3 player overall KU not a factor but would be a big blow to UK and FSU among others that want him badly. Go get your money young man and don't waste college's time

@BeddieKU23 Oh I agree 100%. Just don't see the need to come out with a list. Just go take your visit and commit.
I hope the staff is prioritizing Love and Thompson.
I think farmer reported recently he thought KU cooled on Nix and that could have been to finding out UCLA was a heavy choice. Regardless its kids being kids, annoying but it's what we sign up for today following how things go down
I just hadnβt heard much lately linking KU and Nix. Itβs full speed ahead on Thompson and Love. RJ Davis looks like Pitt or UNC. KK Robinson could get a longer look now.
Sounds like they kind of knew what direction he was going in.
One of KK, Love & Thompson would be great.

So dumb. Why even come out with a top 5 and then commit the next day...
Better then stringing along programs during visits
I was going to post yesterday I would be surprised if he let Cali without committing. Once there was chatter UCLA led and him taking the first visit there with no other scheduled visits. Made a ton of sense.

Love looks nice. Real nice. Is there a legit chance KU lands him?
I think we do and the last visit could be key here. Some recent chatter that UNC leads. Hopefully he takes all his visits.

I feel like Zion was just too big a prize to come along and not have corruption surround him. He was a "must have" target. Could possibly end up being a "game changer" in the ShoeCo war like Jordan was. That is yet to be seen. But this big business couldn't just let him go his own way without their influence. Simply not possible.
If connections to Zion were not interested in taking money secretly you can bet ShoeCo agents were driving by these people and throwing cash money darts out the window at them. Anything necessary to swing Zion their way.
Since the money dart concept probably didn't happen, I'm pretty sure the connections "played ball" to a underground money exchange.
I'm not easily convinced it could ever be proven that Duke directly or indirectly became involved in any of this. But what bothers me is that when any evidence is sniffed out even remotely connected to Duke, those fires quickly get suffocated with wet towels. The sheer magnitude of the protective wall around Duke is part of the corruption here!
They had a story recently about all the drama and controversy with Zion signing with Jordan Brand. It's a cut throat world out there with people trying to exploit/gain off others fame. His step dad started this whole fiasco years ago taking control of Zion's recruitment and the waters have gotten deeper behind the scenes every year since.
It certainly appears that way with Duke having privilege. How much will that continue with K hangs them up.

In all seriousness this is a big loss for KU. Reading the tea leaves of this sounds like KU messed up in a big way restructuring as Hudy isn't the only to leave KU since it happened. Since the kids are on break I'm sure Self has a short time frame to get someone in place before they get back for the start of school.
Thank you Hudy for your 15 years here. I never thought she'd leave. Always a hawk!
I know Hudy is free to pick where she lands as she chooses but in conference for Shaka. Disgusting choice.
Looks like we need a recruiting board for Athletic Trainers now..

Adam Miller will visit KU. Date TBD. KU or Illinois, right?
forgot about Miller. Lots of options it looks like for KU at the moment
KK Robinson cut his list to 7 with KU among them. #9 ranked PG in the 2020 class. A mix of South to Midwest programs for him. KK is an Arkansas native and is being recruited by Norm.
Arkansas, KU, Iowa St, Illinois, Vandy, TCU & Texas A&M in the mix.
I wonder if we get him on an official. KK is a smooth lefty with good athleticism. Film is good
I get what your saying. You want the elite kids to come in and earn their keep. If they are afraid of competition then you get a good glimpse at their state of mind and maybe those kids are not a fit for a tough nosed coach like Self. A kid like Nix is probably only in College 1 year so positioning his brand is important.
Even if Devon was coming back another year I think Caleb Love would still be a major target. He's a combo guard in my eyes and we know the value those can have on this team. It might be harder to sell with Devon back but I think he's comfortable playing either guard spot. Should be interesting
Happens all the time in recruiting though with kids choosing schools based on the depth chart. I couldn't imagine KU landing or aggressively going after a PG if Devon wasn't almost a lock to leave after this season? You can't sell playing time to an elite kid if he's going to be stuck behind Devon. But Self has a good message to sell if he's already looking for his replacement with the expectation he's leaving and the options behind him are unproven freshman right now. There's always a chance a kid will be scared by the fact Self does have a few options on the roster but what can ya do. It's recruiting. That's why KU rarely goes after just one guy at a position.

Andre is a 4 year guy. Is he better then Harris who we just took? I say we look for an elite option like we are. I see the value in offering. May just be that.
Could be that Bill is hedging that at least one of the two will turn out.
I don't expect an elite PG to get scared away by any of the PGs projected to be on the roster in 2020-2021.
I agree Bill has sent a lot of offers out in this class and I don't see anyone being scared away. The only way that happens is if McBride wiggles himself an established backup role and shows the combination of playmaking and facilitating that he can provide. TBD on that though.
I want Love from this class first and foremost. I think we have the best shot with him right now the way his recruitment is trending. Nix obviously is a big fish as well with tremendous passing ability. Bryce Thompson's recruitment has certainly taken some turns recently. Not sure what's happening there but my dream class was Love/Thompson. If we can land one of the two we should feel pretty good about our lead guard options.

I have faith as well. I just thought after the Nova loss there would have been a sense of urgency to change the scheme defensively. Maybe that realization comes now, this year, with a roster made for possibly changing things up. There's a good chance 7-8 guys return next season as well which gives him the time to implement a change not only for this current season but sets it up for future years.
I'm hopeful and optimistic this years roster is just what the doctor ordered defensively. Dotson, Agbaji, Garrett all proved to be above average to very good defenders last year. Mitch takes charges and protects the rim. A healthy Doke and an eligible Silvio are two of the most imposing and athletic bigs in the country with varying skill. Moss comes into the team with a reputation for being a good defender. McCormack showed flashes last year. We lost a bunch of poor defenders and when you don't have continuity through the rotation the cracks end up being bigger then they should be. The effort of certain players defensively was not what we expect and none of those guys returned. I do not think Self will have a problem maximizing effort from this group and getting them to buy in
I can see it getting in the way of any significant changes though which is a big concern. If he didn't change something after watching Nova run laps on us in the Final 4 what's going to be the final straw?
I agree there should be a schematic change. @kjayhawks had a good point about the line moving back. That's going to have a significant impact you would think, especially this year. It's going to minimize how many effective 4 out teams there are. Will it be a temporary impact though?
This whole thread which was very good by the way @HighEliteMajor brought me to the most important point of this discussion. Self's defensive scheme is losing NCAA tournament games. There has to be a remedy to that
Will be interesting to monitor. Dawson Garcia could potentially visit KU this fall. One of many schools in contact with him.
Garcia also continues to hear regularly from North Carolina, Kansas, Kentucky and Duke. Texas, Marquette, Arizona & the hometown Minnesota are also heavily involved.
Agreed. I think we know the type of kids that want the paydays
I'll clarify a bit more here. I wasn't comparing Svi and Enaruna as shooters. I was comparing how they struggled shooting in International settings having to be the source of offense for their teams.
Tristan had a game recently where he was 3/6 from 3 and another where he was 0/5. If he got the kind of minutes his freshman year to put up that kind of volume I think we as fans can expect those types of games from him. I don't believe he gets enough minutes to shoot 5/6 3's a game but optimistically I think he'll be around 30% as a freshman on low volume. Some have said he can't shoot which isn't true. It's a developing skill for him. He can make perimeter shots but probably will need some coaching and repetition to get to the point of reliable in games. I can't imagine we need him for reliability until his Soph year
Woodrow said:
KU does not make the final 5 for Greg Brown. Kentucky, Texas, UNC, Memphis and Auburn.
That's a shame, he's a fantastic talent but I knew this one was all about the swoosh
KUSTEVE said:
Tristan is 17, right? Since shooting is a skill, he could develop that skill, right?
Absolutely, since he recently switched from shooting left handed to right handed improvement over time should be expected. His ambidextrous ways will surprise fans.
I have no concerns about his shooting touch in time. He can make perimeter shots, its not his primary skill at the moment but that's not what we need out of him either. There have been events where Tristan has shot the ball well with consistency from the perimeter and games he struggled. I remember Svi struggling years back in the summer when he was forced to be the main facilitator of offense
looks good @approxinfinity
Appreciate everything you do for the board behind the scenes

@BeddieKU23 There is a rumor he wants Trae Young shot volume.
Interesting rumor. I mean its easy to lump a kid into that rep for being from Oklahoma but wonder what legs it actually has. I haven't seen Boynton to be the type of coach to facilitate "shot volume" but maybe he will for Thompson.
This recruitment certainly looks to have taken a life of its own
I understand the connection with Cunningham to OSU but Thompson besides being from Oklahoma I'm not getting this. Seems since his rise in the rankings he's getting more behind the scenes attention. I'm sure the swooshers are nippin at the feet
Slater recently put a CB into Okie Lite for Bryce Thompson.. Shenanigans going on in Stillwater to land Cunningham and Thompson??

I'm glad you can even remember the game. I'm trying to remember which one it was for me but I know it was one where he took multiple shots in a 1 minute span where he didn't even look at the hoop before. Those were common so its hard to pinpoint which game it was

Enaruna's team was eliminated so he'll be in Lawrence in a few weeks when they come back from their break.
Tritan had 21 points, 13 rebounds, 3/6 from 3 and 2 blocks in the losing effort.
He did not shoot the ball very efficiently during the 4 games including some Charlie Moore like FG % from 2, 3 and the FT line..
He finished averaging near a double double 19.8 ppg and 9.3 boards. Tons of long range potential with him. Can't wait to see how Self uses him
Charlie was the "volume scorer" without the "scorer" part ... I wonder at what point coach Self thought to himself, "what was I thinking?"
If that moment didn't occur before the season started last year, oh boy. It seems like Charlie had a lot going on off-the-court that may have impacted him some. Whatever ale'd him it was hard to watch.
I feel bad for talking bad about Chuck knowing that, now!
It happens. I'm guilty as well. We want everyone who wears the Jersey to be good. Charlie wasn't good and possibly the worst rotation player Self has had under his watch. I wish him the best going forward and I hope his personal life improves so he can have an impact at Depaul
I definitely thought of Svi from years back when he played in the same tournament. Tristan just turned 18 as well and was listed at 6'8 by his home team. Tristan didn't have any help and yes he was forced to take on a big role, a role he didn't even have in HS in Utah. Will be interesting to see how he develops. The potential is off the charts

Enaruna has played well for the Netherlands at the FIBA U18 Championships. Averaging 19ppg in Group Play. Shooting needs some work. 42% shooting, 15.4% from 3-point range
Game 1: Spain 98, Netherlands 65
β’ Enaruna played 33 minutes and scored 16 points on 7-of-16 shooting from the floor. He was 1-of-4 from 3-point range and added 7 rebounds, 2 blocks and an assist.
Game 2: Netherlands 98, Croatia 63
β’ In 32 minutes of the blowout victory, Enaruna exploded for 29 points on 12-of-23 shooting from the floor. He easily could have topped 30 points but shot just 1-of-6 from 3-point range despite being red hot everywhere else. He added 4 rebounds, 3 steals, 2 blocks and 2 assists in the easy victory.
Game 3: Finland 59, Netherlands 53
β’ In a tourney-high 35 minutes on Monday, Enaruna could not find his offense in a six-point loss to Finland that cost the Dutch in terms of seeding in the Round of 16. He finished 4-of-16 from the floor and 0-of-3 from 3-point range in the loss. Doing his best to make up for the off shooting night, Enaruna ripped down 13 rebounds and dished 3 assists while swiping 2 steals.
