You knew they were going to fire back after missing on their top targets.

Still surprised UNC wasn't his choice. things changed quick with that one. KU definitely not in a position right now to steal recruits like this last minute

Agree with @Kcmatt7 Doke will figure it out. The game seems to even out for him when he plays guys his size. I would like to see what happens when this team develops chemistry on the court and we run plays specifically to get certain results. The emphasis for Doke should always be on getting him easy baskets. Putting him in situations where he's going to be doubled is poor awareness.

Good Teams will try and double Lawson so its a good thing he has such a versatile game and good passing ability. Doke will have a role on this team and I see it happening in game 1

After listening to Matt Scott on the podcast that @BShark posted yesterday I honestly think this came down to Nova telling him he could play the 3. Why he thinks he is a 3 is beyond me and most scouts, but hey that's his prerogative.

Could have been the smart play for JRE though. I think they realize he isn't getting taller and its unlikely he'll have an elite athletic attribute that makes him a top NBA pick. But with the shift in the NBA if he develops right at Nova he's got a chance to improve his stock. Not sure Self had that vision for him in his system. We definitely got beat here in this one

@BeddieKU23 would’ve liked to have him, but I guess I wasn’t too high on his game. Thanks for weighing in! I really don’t have that strong of an opinion on the matter.

Long term I'm not sure what his place in the NBA would be without him developing his perimeter shot. He's not that big for NBA standards but in College he would have been just fine. Going to Nova seems like a good place to work on his shot and I think recently he's been showing improved range.

I liked certain intangibles about him. His Effort, BBIQ, has a real knack for getting involved in plays and being around the rim at the right moment. He looked to be of high character and a team player and with all his ties to the program and being a local recruit it seemed like a good fit. I think he was capable of coming here and playing a ton as a freshman and then being a key contributor as a soph and beyond if he stayed. Oh well, I'll wish him luck with Wright

Must’ve been ESPN that dropped him a couple months ago. Sent up red flags.

ESPN has him underranked by about 20 spots. He's a top 20 kid in a weak class. Big disappointment he's going to ball out at another school

@BeddieKU23 he was ranked 18 now 38 on Rivals I believe.

He's 38 on ESPN but he's been there for a while and they haven't done an update. Should get a bump now that he went to a Nike school.

He's composite 18 on 247, 18 on their own rank. Rivals has him #10

New 2019 Recruiting • Nov 02, 2018 02:45 PM

@dylans

What site are you saying dropping him 20 spots?

I think he would have been a great College Big at KU. Really smart player with a great motor. He does a lot of things well but he's not elite at any one thing. We certainly would have been better with him then without

KU should win but can't replicate last night's effort if they want to start off the season well. I say we feed Dedric the ball as much as possible and just let things develop around him. He's so clearly on another level from everyone else

I'm interested to see the rotations. Self always plays everyone in the exhibitions so we can't take anything from that. My hope is that only 8 guys mostly play against MSU.

I'm really shocked how bad KJ has played so far. He just needs to settle down, reminds me of Newman last year

KU looked awful overall last night. I'll take it with a grain of salt but I was not expecting that effort in the first half. I knew this would be a work in progress so I'm not even sure what I'm upset about.

We better hope Dedric can get 25 against Sparty and carry this team early. Will be interesting to see how these guys respond on the big stage.

Not winning Tuesday with this effort. Very concerned

Yeah I liked Hall as well but we would have felt the same sting had we made him a priority after the FBI thing. SOL until spring unless Zeke pops

@BeddieKU23 Certainly a possibility. I just tend to blame the Suns organization until proven otherwise. Either way, you're right. His NBA career is about to become a fight to stay in the league.

I'm with you on blaming the Suns as they tank their organization. Josh just looks like a square peg, round hole situation though. He can't shoot well enough and compounds the issue by taking shots he can't make efficiently. That's been his career coming up the ranks. It's on him now

Jayhawks in NBA • Nov 01, 2018 12:22 PM

Kcmatt7 said:

@BeddieKU23 They knew he couldn't shoot when they drafted him. They didn't take the time to fix it, and now here we are.

In the same regard maybe they did try and help him and he's just not capable of changing it?

This is how he played in summer league and nothing has changed.

The Suns are a joke so I can see it being an organizational fail as well.

He better soak in that rookie contract because he isn't getting a better one after

Jayhawks in NBA • Nov 01, 2018 11:38 AM

Josh Jackson better shape up. Shooting 36% fg, 26% on 3's, 36% on FT's. Suns got a bust. He simply can't shoot

This coming weekend, Stanley will wrap up his official visits when he heads to Eugene.

If Dedric did stay by some miracle he wouldn't be that old going into the draft in 2020. He'd be 22 I think..

Woodrow said:

I know most think Dedric will be gone after this year, but I haven't seen one mock or ranking system that puts him in the 2019 first round. However, I do think he will be gone after this year.

There's a slim chance he's a first round pick if scouts hold the combine from a few years back against him. It's hard to change their minds once they see you. I don't think him leaving after this year is contingent upon a 1st round grade

Champions Classic • Oct 31, 2018 06:25 PM

FYI ESPN ranks Dotson as the #7 PG prospect for the draft. Going to be tough to hold onto him this year if he gets near the Top 5.

Grimes #2 Shooting Guard. He's a OAD lock

They did a 2020 rankings. Dotson first round (Late), Dedric (mid 2nd). Interesting considering its widely known he's likely gone after the year.

Not saying it WOULD HAPPEN I said COULD it happen. - -really not a whole hell lot of difference between a post grad transfer-OR A REALLY good Juco stud. - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

I think there is actually. I can't think of a JUCO player that has had a huge impact for a good team recently. Self hasn't went that route in a long time.

I know UNLV isn't considered a good team but Juiston is a really good Juco.

Is Tre Jones bad?

Jones should be good if he lives up to his ranking/reputation. I'm not as high on him and think his game is built up a bit on his brother's name at Duke/signing to Duke. We'll see if he's got the goods, Duke has nothing to run the point outside him so they are totally dependent on him being good

Calipari couldn't stop Barrett the last time they faced and I don't expect that changes.

I actually think Kentucky wins this game because I think they will get more production from their bench. Unless Barrett & Zion combine for 40-50 points I just don't see them beating Kentucky. I'm not high on Kentucky either I just think Duke is a 3 man team with nothing impactful coming from their bench other then McConnell. Bolden is terrible, DeLaurier is still a project. Kentucky should look to double RJ and sag the posts outside of Reddish who needs to be guarded on the perimeter.

Will be interesting to see how it plays out in Game 1.

New 2019 Recruiting • Oct 31, 2018 12:45 PM

Take our lumps now, ride out the storm and see what's available in the spring. The news cycle will be on someone else by that point.

It's a good thing the 2019 class wasn't chalk full of stars. KU needs to find at least two front court options that can contribute next year. Maybe 1 recruit, 1 transfer who knows.

I think we are still in a good spot for Zeke. He visited twice in two weeks. Selling him a spot is easier without JRE in the picture

Cassius Stanley on why he picked KU.

"Self sold me on playing Center. I know I'm a wing/guard but he said Udoka Azubuike is going pro after the season I really see myself impacting the team most at Center".

All fun. No Malice of course

KU has a really good shot at Stanley because of his dad, imo @jayballer73

My money is on more then just playing on the wing that won this one. We'll never know though

If KU makes it to spring and has a great season and then the other trials start KU will be able to recruit again. Weather the storm right now, get lucky maybe with a recruit signing in November and let TIME be your friend.

@BeddieKU23 Wow, I never heard that on Preston .. that he was never deemed eligible by the NCCA. Why would we have played him in the MU thing then? That really doesn't add up to me. Why would the car thing be used as cover? Why do we need dishonest "cover?"

I don't think KU is clear. It goes to the knowledge of the payment to Preston (his mom, or whoever). If KU coaches knew of the payment, presumably didn't tell the Administration (AD), then a question arose, everyone then did a pow wow and concluded to hold him out, and we held him out, that doesn't clear the coaches.

I will clarify what I wrote.

This is what Ryan on the Phog said about Billy. Ryan has connections to the program.

Preston was cleared academically but his amateurism wasn't.

He played in all the exhibitions because the expectation was he would be cleared by the opener to play.

The Car crash happened but it was used as a front while they waited for the NCAA to rule on his amateurism. At some point the NCAA let them know the situation and KU appealed on Billy's behalf.

Whether all of it, some of, or none of it is true it would make some sense on why there was no movement.
