It's going to be funny seeing what the Selection Committee does with the Pac-12 & SEC. Two conferences that have been mediocre at best again. Some good teams from smaller leagues will again get the shaft as they do every year.

What team other then Arizona from the Pac-12 is even going to be favored to win a game? Find one.

Seems like 7 will get in from the SEC. Auburn has been solid but lost a key player. Tennessee has had a very good year and is playing well. Who else? A up and down Kentucky team likely to have 11 losses going into the tourney? A&M likely to have 12 losses? Arkansas 11, Missouri 12.

how many teams ? • Mar 05, 2018 12:50 PM

Grambling would be a nice 1st round opponent. Only team in the SWAC with a winning record and needed the conference tourney to get it..

If they began naming Fog Banks like they do Tropical Storms, I'd name the Fog Bank LaGerald. He is in a complete and utter fog...and not the good kind e.g. Phog.

He is wandering aimlessly on the court, casually and repeatedly throwing the ball away, weak on the boards, getting blown by on D, and providing very little on the offensive end. I think it's time to start Garrett. He is bringing far more to the table and I bet his 3 point shooting % is very close to Vick over the last 10 games (if anyone has that stat).

Here you Go. I included other stats because I think its important to distinguish just how poorly Vick is playing. Garrett should be starting and its up to Coach to figure it out. Vick should not be playing near 33 minutes a game, hasn't deserved it for months.

Marshall has taken 30 timeouts in 30 games. Espn noted it when he took an unexpected timeout around the 6 minute mark.

Wichita is a good defensive team but anyone who saw them play Cincinnati knows this is a flawed offensive team. They just have a ton of bodies to throw out there.

KU never played him, good luck on the witch hunt

Just getting completely screwed

Never seen anything like it

Worst reffed game in years

Only need 135 more timeouts to catch up

Cut the lead to 15

Worst officiating crew this yr

No fouls

@drgnslayr

I forgot to get back to my theory of zoning Virginia and how it would change the tempo of the game.

Everything Virginia does is a calculated move. Deliberately bringing the ball up slow, a disciplined defensive approach that puts the offense in a reaction mode that often frustrates the hell out of teams. They run primarily all their action in the last 15 seconds of the shot clock. KU takes a shot on average every 16 seconds.

Virginia likes to split the court in two, they run these 2 man action sets that some how confuse the heck out of defenses. I'll take the duke game for an example. Statistically duke likes to play at a faster tempo then KU. And Virginia was able to make them play to their will. Virginia also had a ton of open shots created by executing sets to precision. I'm sure Duke broke down film and it still didn't help them for most of the game it seemed. Duke wasn't playing zone against them at the time and I thought it was a mistake because taking them away from running their man defense sets is a strategy I think someone like Self can use. What if Virginia takes the first available shot against a zone, what if their tempo changes by not being able to rely on getting shots they practice to get everyday for months. I think a zone would force them into a game where they shoot below average. I could be wrong, but it's one way a team could force the tempo in a different direction.

Adel shuffled his feet once no one was initially open. Adel or Padgett should have called timeout as soon as the initial read wasn't open to get it in bounds

I thought he looked really good. Made some great shots. Not sure of the assists, I think he had quite a few.

How was his leadership running the team. We know he's an explosive guard that can score. How did his outside shot look? Thanks its great getting to hear how a future hawk looks on the court.

"We don't have anybody that can guard him" • Mar 02, 2018 06:07 PM

Charlie Moore's PER was 13.6 last year. That's lower then every player on this years team except Sam Cunliffe.

His usage (Almost 27%) inflated his stats. He was not an efficient scorer. His Effective shooting % would be lower then any rotation player. His turnover % would also be higher then any guard on the team.

He's got a ways to go, he played on a bad team at Cal and was forced into a situation where they needed him to shoulder a big role. Some of his numbers can be attributed to situation and lack of experience.

I think coming to KU was a big step up for him but he'll get there in time. He has a scorer's mentality and has good vision. He had some big games at Cal so there's some intrigue he can become a good player here. He should be in the bench rotation next year

What’s up with Lagerald? • Mar 02, 2018 03:24 PM

@JayHawkFanToo

Vick's PER in conference play is painfully low. I don't even want to share it.

His FT % is low because he doesn't ever get to the line consistently. Garrett has played about 400 minutes less and has shot almost as many FT's as him.

He's struggled shooting the ball ever since the Texas Game. We need him to find his shot

Tony Bennett = Pre-"Fool's Gold" Self? • Mar 02, 2018 03:08 PM

@drgnslayr

Personally I would throw a zone defense at Virginia. I think they do an excellent job of executing sets. Its not like Virginia does anything extraordinary to score but they execute so well, they screen well, they cut with purpose and guys share the ball.

Jerome & Guy are stone cold from outside and Hall is a junkyard dog. Hunter, the kid who made the 3 to beat Louisville is a really good young player, he's only 6'7 but bouncy and has an insane wingspan (7'4) which allows him to play the 4 when they go big or the 5 when they want to switch all 5 on defense.

Back to why I would zone Virginia. Because I think it takes them out of their comfort zone. I mentioned execution is a reason why they have been so good. They limit how much guys have to make individual plays, its smart because I don't think this Virginia team is a gifted scoring team. Guy is the one player that can create and they feature him the most but everyone else thrives because of well executed sets. I think it would give KU an edge because scoring on them is extremely difficult. You get forced into their pace because that's what they do. In today's age you think how hard can it be? Watch them and you realize just how locked in guys are. They get loose balls, they get tough rebounds, they force pressured shots. It's not just their starters, its their bench as well.

Guard play would be the reason we'd prevail. Simply having 4 guys who can score. Marcus is coming around as well and honestly he'd fit like a glove defensively on Virginia. Guard play can beat them but it has to be a 1-4 (or 5) commitment.

Doke would be neutralized because I've yet to see a team that ISO's them effectively on the block. Their pack line mentality would stop Doke from catching the ball and powering in. Bagley had some success against them but he's got a wide array of moves and skill that Doke is still developing. We'd be smart to run a lot of pick and roll with Doke at the top of the screen and have him roll hard to the basket. We'd get some lob action out of it or an open shooter in the corner.

As good as Virginia has been in the regular season they struggle in March. I don't see this team being different then past teams that have underachieved. This isn't a terribly experienced bunch either going into the tournament. It's a different beast. I have my reservations about how far they can go

That was unreal. Why not just throw the ball past the half court? Either someone has to get it with no time to shoot or goes out of bounds and Virginia has to inbound it from under its own basket. Don’t teams normally practice and have play designed for situations just like this?

Louisville plain and simple gave the game away.

It was certainly a Louisville blunder. They had a timeout to use as well. Not only did the player make a mistake, the coach didn't react to stop it. That's what you get with a rookie coach who doesn't have the experience that Pitino had.

Adel must have been completely unaware that the lane violation on the FT by Virginia caused a deadball situation

@BeddieKU23 No, you can't make it up. If they actually had Trier to rights, why would they let him play again? So, the appeal worked. A lot of really weird events happening around Arizona all at once ...doesn't this all seem very, very strange?

If there is one thing I don't understand its how the NCAA works.

I mean Preston is playing in freaking Bosnia because they couldn't rule on his eligibility. Rant over regarding KU.

With Trier, in my personal opinion I don't believe he's innocent. Further diving into the drug that he was suspended for, the first time around, it just points to a plot to gain an edge. You don't stumble upon this at Rite Aid or Walgreen's. I don't buy his innocence in this. I don't have all the facts on this 2nd suspension for it magically appearing in trace amounts in his body again. I'm surprised how quickly it was resolved though. Maybe he's innocent but I'm not buying it with what is currently available for information.

We do agree that the events surrounding Arizona are weird. We'll likely have to wait a while to see how this all plays out. I have a feeling this is just the tip of the iceberg

epic collapse by Louisville. Can't even believe how they lost.

They are a great defensive team and their slow as molasses tempo puts teams to sleep.

Trier magically played last night as well. Can't make this up.

I expect at seasons end for Arizona to make a final judgement.. Still have the fallout from the assistants and all that to deal with.

Arizona at the moment has too much to save face on. They won the Pac-12 and likely will be a Top 5 seed in the NCAA's. I'm sure the boosters wanted stability until the season was over.
