We are home. Round 2.. not expecting the same outcome but it would be nice to see a good response from Saturday. Let's try and stop Bryce's super bowl.

I'm much happier with rooting for Furphy then I ever would have been for Morris.
I hope it's just a bad week of shooting. We demand a high level of play out of him because he took on the role and wants it. When you don't produce it impacts the team. Winning on the road against a Top 25 team is really difficult when your best player(s) don't play their best. I don't think Hunter or Kev has played anywhere near their best in weeks. Furphy has masked a lot of issues on offense. How we get Hunter/Kev rolling is something that needs to be addressed.
No doubt the defense is a mess. The switching 1-4 isn't working.
Kev last 2 games 10-35 FG. He's gotta figure it out.
I'm not going to worry about it. Tuesday is another opportunity to get better.
I want to write some stuff here but I don't have a lot of positives to lean on to balance it out. The result isn't surprising given the state of officiating in this gym. It's embarrassing to know before a game starts that this is what you have to overcome.
Hopefully we can get a home win on Tuesday. 5 of the next 8 are at home and that's big
Maybe kev will make the 10th one
2 best players are 5-18. Step up
Old kev is back
Yeah. Absolutely rigged game
Of course
Kev can't make layups today. Great
Raftry your blind
What
Nice response juando
F you ref
Oh but that's a foul. I'm done
Whatever
Kev you gotta make them
Good grief refa
Game is rigged
So far our defensive pressure has been great. But we need shots to fall.
Nick had kev for the better shot. That's a play Juan would have made
What in the actual
Weak foul
Big time play kev
Clank kev
Turnovers key today. Juan we are counting on you
Lock in. Hopefully they overcome the 8 on 5 they are facing. 4 days rest should help kev and hunt here.
I know a few weeks back Self was looking for more rim protection from Hunter. He's not getting a fair whistle on either end. A few of his fouls in the Monday game were caused by others not doing their job- believe Furphy was responsible for 1 or 2 of his fouls. Agreed, he has to play big minutes. ISU has 4 athletic dudes to throw at him
They should just be BFF's really.
I'm hesitant to believe in the numbers being good for Hunter/KJ because the data isn't broken down enough to see the splits from where the shots are coming from. A long 2 vs a 10-12 footer is a big difference.
I want to see KJ continue to expand his range which he's showing at times but the issue is consistency. It's a good shot when it goes down but feels like an empty possession when he misses. I hope he gets to where we can count on that shot. He's gotten really good at the push shot off the short role in the paint. The face up jumper though still doesn't look natural but I hope he gets it there.
Hunter tends to take a fair amount of 2's outside the paint. Recently he's been missing those shots more which is concerning (likely due to the knee). We know he can shoot it and has a nice shot. I do get frustrated sometimes when he gets a shot up so fast after catching it because if he doesn't make it there's nobody from KU in position for an offensive rebound. Some of the uniqueness of his skillset doesn't help the other 4 because at times he's too fast for everyone. He's obviously worked very hard to where it's unique to his game but those long 2's become a risky shot. I still don't think we've found the balance between getting him enough paint touches where he's so deadly. He should be living at the FT line.
It's even funnier because they are the same fans themselves.
Watch the foul disparity on Saturday, it will be hilariously frustrating to watch.
25 is the last of the old dudes that get the covid free yr. Hunter and Juan examples of that as you mentioned
Bill Self teams tend to rise to the occasion. All those tough games coming up, I think we'll see better play and perhaps be surprised when it's over. Just trying to stay optimistic. We're 16-3, 1 game out of first in the league, the sky isn't falling but they are in the mud and need to keep grinding to get where we all want this team to be.
But everything starts with guys getting healthy and that's squarely at the feet of Hunter and Kevin, our two best players. We need them healthy, or things could spiral, and this could be like no other year we've experienced under Self. We cannot afford a serious injury; we're seeing we are not that good with guys who are playing through minor/nagging things either. The margin for error is zero with a lot of things with this team.
Inserting Furphy into the starting lineup has been a major positive move but perhaps now the team is searching again for its identity with him playing major minutes. I think the coaches should be pushing to extend his role even further in the offense. He's in the perfect spot to produce without pressure due to the amount of attention Hunter/Kev demand. He should be getting more then 6 shots in a game.
Oh please Bill make this happen even if he's the video guy.
Gotta be a balance there, last night KJ/Kev fell right for it due to Cincinnati packing the lane. We all know the analytics behind the midrange shot. I just think we settle for too many and it's not good offense for our players.
Kev is shooting 34% on 2 pt jumpers, Harris 31% and on roughly 1/4 of their total shot attempts. Not great by any means.
KJ and Hunter shoot 48% and 52% respectfully and the volume is high (37%, 47%) of attempts. Way too many 2 pt shots from your bigs especially Hunter.
We shoot way too many midrange jumpers imo.
Are they just hitting the usual January lull before the level of play picks up again? Or is this what they are at this point? I'm not buying the latter this early, Self has always found a way to push the right buttons. Hard to doubt him
Yeah, KJ is probably playing too many minutes overall. It's not the minutes per say, he's in incredible shape but it's the toll defensively that's getting to him. Self is making guys switch 1-4 and you see how many times a game KJ is guarding a 6'1 guard at the end of the shot clock and it's got to wear a dude out. We forget he's 6'7, 235 and not some string-bean guard.
@rcjhdraft said in KU vs Cincinnati game chat:
@BeddieKU23 Yeah I just singled out KJ because he plays far more than Braun does
He just seems to pick and choose when to rebound instead of it just being instinct. He was showing strides of being consistent as of a couple games ago but that seems to have passed again. Enigma when it comes to this
News to me but not a good sign from Nick if true
Braun is as well given that's like one of his main jobs when in the game.
Hunter and Kev are playing through knee/leg injuries. Neither is 100%, Hunter might be like 70% based on how he moved last night.
Gotta find a way to start winning those 50/50 balls which we are not doing consistently.
Self taught him everything he knows
Gotta get Hunter healthy.
Either a bucket or throws. Gotta have it
