Garret - good article about the little things he does
TGF in National TV wincing and pinching his groin ... for like 2 minutes.
God I forget how young these kids are.
North Carolina not so hot either... itās nice to see both Kentucky and NC not dominating and out of the rankings... now if only #20 Dook can sink out of the top 25! I shouldnāt gloat too much because itās early and thereās time for one or all of them to get good when it counts in March.
Meanwhile Gonzaga will try hard to stay motivated as they go thru the motions mugging the weak teams in their division.
This guy Bill Self ... year after year We get to see what he builds with the guys he manages to recruit... methinks he pretty damn good coach
Speaking of my favorite player- espn article ranking the top 25 players this season...
Excellent post mr. WissoxBate- thanks
Yeah that all makes sense. I know his coming back would be extremely unlikely, Iām Just gonna miss Garrett- one of my all time fav J-hawks. In my 25 years of closely following the team, his is the only jersey I currently own.
Yes he can bank some money overseas for a while. From his high basketball IQ, He may have the makings of a coach someday. Self absolutely loves the guy - loves him, and will help him if he wants to coach.
Under this rule, Can Garrett come back ?
I must say ā itās nice to have one of these no stress games where you get to watch everybody play... Iām sure weāre gonna have more than our fair share of stress games coming up
Was it Thompson who hit those pull up jumpers?? God I wish more KU players would work on that shot... itās a totally worthwhile shot attempt. Instead they just want to either shoot a three or drive to the bucket and get blocked or lose the handle so many times.
Good to see Mitch do some good things out there. I will NEVER say anything willfully bad about a kid who absolutely is a Jayhawk for life guy. He is what he is and I love his effort.
Weird team this year. Wilson is apparently our Lawson-type go-to-scorer. I suppose we need a guy with brass balls to take the offense when needed into his own hands. Biggus Davus is... well, he seems to be lacking in fine motor skills? Or he canāt seem to fine tune that big body of his. He canāt seem to figure out how time a shot block attempt. I donāt think he has good hops for his height. One announcer said he plays constantly like his hair is on fire. Agree totally. My god, someone teach him how to shot fake. Get the ball in his usual spot, back in with a dribble or two if heās not double teamed, then shot fake to get his defender up in the air then just go up into his arms and draw the foul. He can shoot free throws well which is great- weird that he can control his free throw motion so well when in game play he flails around. He is late on switches constantly. Late in last nites game, He watched a creighton guy off a switch drain an uncontested three when all he had to do was move up on him. The creighton guy couldnāt believe it either. The announcer even got mad at Dave. So frustrating to see a guy try sooooo hard, and yet not seem to get some basic things. He should be a MUCH better rebounder. Sigh. But clearly Self is gonna keep giving him many minutes, at least until itās obvious another lineup is working much better.
Watched the Villanova-Texas game recently... the announcer said a very interesting thing about villanova... he remarked that in the past several years their big men probably have led the nation on shot fakes and FOULS DRAWN on shot fakes.
So... this canāt just be Villanova recruiting guys who can shot fake, clearly this has to be an emphasis with jay wright and taught by the coaches at villanova. So if it is teachable, why canāt we teach our big men???? Biggus Davus in particular. He is a good foul shooter. He is not all that great at anything else.
I suppose Maybe learning how to effectively shot fake is quite difficult, and not worth the time of self and co to spend with BD?
Pull up jumpers ... need more attempts of that shot Rather than constant drives
Harris a four year player Iām assuming..,
Thank god for us. Self and staff found another gem guard
Announcer dead right...āyou want to impress Bill self, you play defense get rebounds and do the little things...ā
Is Wilson looking to be a dedrick Lawson type go-to scorer?
It does look like we will need someone to take over when things get stuck offensively.
He doesnāt look shy about finding a shot
@BShark
Sure looks it.
Garrett seems to playing half -speed ...
Man so glad we have Harris... his court sense is fantastic
Even if Biggus Davus could just work on positioning himself to rebound he could be a positive ... heās got a body for rebounding, he just needs to be taught how to anticipate the offense enough to muscle in position for rebounding - heās the biggest body out there!!
But that may be under the category of ā if you donāt have an instinct for it you aināt goon a learn it in time ā
If Lightfoot just had a little more hops
Biggus Davus jumped too soon on the lob. He needs to calm down
We need a nice run here
Nice to see some boxing out !
If we could teach mccormick how to draw fouls hes decent at the foul line
Self is probably telling garrett right now he needs to drive
@BShark
Who is that!
Seem seem to remember Garrett slipping a few times last year⦠He always has already slipped and fell in the last two games.
Biggus Davus looks to me like a more athletic Landon Lucas. He still has a bull in a China shop playing style
I wish mccormick could learn how to dunk
We had a great no 1 team ... then COVID robbed them of a chance to go and win it.
Now the zags get to roll thru the season into the final 4.
Love to play them again in the tourney.. when we are tougher and better and more disciplined. who knows ...
Zags, after playing Baylor dec 5, looks to have basically an easy schedule. Their division is as always bad. When the hell has KU had an easy schedule?
Zags could indeed go undefeated. They look great.
Suggs... good effing player
Oad level
Pretty much every other top program opened their seasons with a bunny game.. sigh.
Not us.
Excellent post
I couldnāt have said it better. Thanks.
Iām a 63 y/o democrat, in biz for myself, been very lucky to still have work, have two kids in college who thankfully have listened to us and practiced proper behavior to minimize their exposure while being surrounded by many who donāt mostly because they are tired of it or donāt want to believe that it is serious.
I was thinking the same thing about America in ww2, how we all came together for do what was right and necessary even though it was hard.
And yes Iām scared... mostly because there is a massive segment of Americans who have made this partisan and political and who have apparently decided to embrace a view that is antithetical to science and based on deliberate mis-information.
Interesting article I read today in the nyt about how there is a resurgence of pro Stalin fervor in Russia. Apparently people donāt want to hear anymore, or actively doubting, about the millions of Russians who were killed by starvation, persecution, or sent to the labor camps in the gulag. They want to remember the past in more nostalgic terms, want to view that era as one of triumph and world power, and actively are suppressing and attacking people who want to educate the younger generations about what really happened. Yikes.
Anyway We need to all come together as a country absolutely!
Cannot WAIT for KU hoops !
looks like wooden Legacy tourney cancelled outright
well - will really be interesting to see what round he goes.... to me he is on the hairy edge of making an NBA roster. Obviously some positives to his game namely his speed, but a lot of negatives too. D league would be my guess
Anger and depression stage here.. maybe in 20 years with lots of bi-weekly intensive therapy and Zoloft I can progress to Barganing. Unless Kansas wins it all say in the next Few years ... that would get me quickly to grudging Acceptance.
At least, when someone brings up the oft-discussed and inevitable topic of Self being ultimately judged by how many NCAA championships he has won (never mind that his record string of conference victories will live on and on as a never-topped DiMaggio- esque hitting streak record), we can always look back to this year and say... what if???? He, we KU were denied by history of possibly winning it all.
Great post - thanks
Man this whole thing is a kick in the berries on so many levels. A year When we had THIS TEAM. Gimme a break. Iāve always known that the tourney is a wild wild thing, and in any given game crazy stuff can easily happen no matter how good you are, but still.... REALLY??? coach Self getting these bunch of guys thru all the obstacles, all the transfers, and scandals and trying to compete with the Nike power schools for recruits, and still building this particular team to be consensus number 1, then this??? damn virus couldnāt have waited to blow up say one lousy month or two later??
This one weird year we will all NEVER forget... but, I can tell you, the best cure will be to go on and win a ncaa championship or two or three. I hope to be alive to see THAT.
We are all going to wonder for the rest of our lives whether this was the year we win it, Selfs second championship. What if, what if, what if. We had a pretty damn good shot this year didnāt we? Great defense, best point guard, arguably best big man, a well-balanced well coached core of team guys. And it wasnāt like there was another monster NCAA team that were better really.
What stunningly incredible bad luck. We will get through this virus, but it will take a few months probably, then hopefully we are wiser about epidemics, and can get on with our lives again. But we will always always wonder what if.
so - our boys, the number one team, won't get to play in the big dance. obviously they ae going to have to cancel it.
this just blows bing time - I'm soooo pissed
You heard it here first!! !!
Dot coming baaaaaackk!!
(Breathing hard... ok now calming down...)
Well, if we do win the NCAA championship, he gone 100%
But If we donāt, there is a Teeny tiny sliver of a shiver of a chance...
and Feel free, especially people who donāt often comment or post, to add random thoughts...
I cannot believe yet again we are at the end of another season. It just seems to absolutely fly by now... and the wait for a new season to begin always seems to be five times longer than it has in the past.
As often discussed here, being an Adidas school always seems to leave us at an apparent disadvantage over Nike schools as far as recruiting. Yet here we are again, number one in the country, another amazing point guard in a string of amazing point guards, a big man senior who may be the best in college basketball right now, and poised to do very well in the tournament. Something is being done right by our staff.
I have a real strong feeling we are going to need Isaiah Moss to get hot in one or two games in the tournament. One for six will not cut it in a close game. We need him to pull a Malik Newman.
it seems to me over the years that Bill self is getting better and better at adjusting his coaching acumen to best suit his players now. And he seems more relaxed in letting some players play through bad shots and mistakes rather than yank them immediately like he did in the past. this builds more team chemistry and confidence in my opinion.
I havenāt checked the stats, but this team, Besides playing great defense of course, seems like we are rebounding much better than in the recent past. Rebounding and boxing out are HUGE.
How about Grimes If he stayed?
In all the years we have talked about Dokeās ā potentialā, this game was what most of us, the glass half- full ones, had envisioned ... Iām not sure Iāve seen a better game from him. Against the number #1 team in the country at their house.
Wow. I love being a Kansas fan :) today was another great day of KU Nation.
For me, completely depressing that all the talk here is about Dokeās chances to stick in the National Boring Association.
Iām glad that he has blossomed into a great COLLEGE player. For me I wish him the best, whether itās going into the meat-grinder schlepathon of the interminable NBA season, or overseas. He will make money wherever he goes, barring injury. He is a good guy, and he will always be a Jayhawk!!!
And... I was a bit worried about whether or not our boys were gelling into a real band of brothers... One of Baylorās big advantages is their self-less team unity, and I think we are there too. We can win it all this year.
Right now I sure could use a long invigorating post from Jaybate to cap off this day. Somebody get ahold of him and tell him to get to work, please
Box out box out box out
Did I say box out?
You know what Baylor has though? Great team unity. these guys have an identity. They are all committed to playing their hearts out for each other. Not sure our boys have coalesced to that stage yet.
Well, my wife does agree about better from behind... that way we can both watch the game ...
(Iāll go away now)
Silvio de Stoolza ... sigh š
Yep
Sadly I think that picture ruins him... he initially started to defend himself as two k state guys came after him and started the fight, then he threw punches, then picked up the stool. Thank god the people nearby with jerrance Howard pulled the stool away.
The stool looks soooo damn bad. Sigh
Yes garret should know better. Wtf
