@FarmerJayhawk Yea but we are talking a fundamental difference in amount.

Oh sorry I thought you meant what you said.

I have never, and will never, say that the NCAA or schools should pay players themselves. I am only a proponent of allowing players to receive sponsorship dollars and whatever people are willing to pay for their likeness.

But the schools and NCAA provide plenty and they should not provide any monetary support.

They already do. Players get a stipend.

The Disappointment. • Oct 20, 2018 04:20 AM

If you all want a list of clean programs you'd rather root for, PM me and I'll give it to you. It's pretty short. Now that all this is coming out it's kind of a relief for us who've seen it firsthand to be like hey you all guess what? Big time college athletics aren't immune from economics either!

Question: What do YOU want KU to do? • Oct 19, 2018 11:01 PM

It’s because you don’t go around and say, ā€œyeah we’re totally cheating lolā€ on a public forum when there’s no concrete information otherwise.

New 2019 Recruiting • Oct 19, 2018 09:22 PM

As in it was 80% KU, 20% somewhere else to now it's 60% KU, 40% somewhere else.

Question: What do YOU want KU to do? • Oct 19, 2018 08:47 PM

You nothing until all the trials are over and you take stock of everything. You definitely can't drop Adidas when Nike is much worse, and you'd be leaving millions on the table as the AD. The key is to play the long game with the NCAA. Dare them to look at everyone and not just a bad actor here or there. Get them to admit it's a systemic problem and treat it like baseball's steroid era. Everyone was doing it so it's either accept that and move on or pretend like the last 6 decades of college sports just didn't happen.

The Next Coach • Oct 19, 2018 08:08 PM

I'd be ok with Jones. He did very well at CMU and Cincy. Tennessee is a tough job. Obscene expectations for fans who still think Peyton Manning is walking through the door.

New 2019 Recruiting • Oct 19, 2018 07:43 PM

Still more likely than not we get Hurt and JRE. Some are more pessimistic than I but if this all anyone has on KU it’s going to be a non-factor.

New 2019 Recruiting • Oct 19, 2018 06:58 PM

@BeddieKU23 being the leader isn’t a pipe dream. I’m thinking like 80% chance to like 60% now.

New 2019 Recruiting • Oct 19, 2018 06:11 PM

Ummm so I actually think Nova is the bigger threat than UNC for JRE now. Still think KU is the most likely destination but it’s uncomfortably uncertain.

As much as organizations like the NCAA try, you can’t legislate away economics.

It’s about Zion so who cares? Not like we pid him not to come.

I mean it's Townsend on tape offering to pay for Zion. This one is not spinnable, imo. KT might have to fall on the sword. I hope not, obviously.

Lol apparently you’ve never worked in politics. Everything is spinnable. For example, Townsend is simply speaking about figuring out how to do it legally. ā€œSome wayā€ doesn’t mean against NCAA rules at all. It doesn’t have nearly enough context to draw any kind of certain inference. The federal government maintains KU was not complicit in any illegal activity.

No context = no intent.

Optics don’t win basketball games. This whole deal is actually pretty good timing considering the season starts in less than two weeks and then people forget by signing day.

FBI...here we go • Oct 15, 2018 09:40 PM

@KirkIsMyHinrich it doesn’t matter what I believe. What incentive does he have to lie? Making coaches aware of payments isn’t illegal. Perjury is.

FBI...here we go • Oct 15, 2018 09:31 PM

Unless Gassnola perjured himself, nobody under the KU banner knew.

FBI...here we go • Oct 15, 2018 08:52 PM

Yawn at all this. It’s not exactly breaking news that shoe companies steer kids to their flagship schools. There’s not really even a NCAA violation here, at least nothing that will jeopardize anyone affiliated with KU.

Seeing Grandkids and Tobacco Road. • Oct 14, 2018 05:35 PM

I was just at the UNC game last night! It’s really a beautiful area. Pretty sure if you squeeze a building on Duke’s campus a few $100 bills pop out. They’ve certainly spared no expense over there.

Highly recommend the Duke/UNC trip for any basketball fan. Their arenas and schools couldn’t be more different. UNC is the country’s first public university so there’s a lot of pride in that, and a lot of venom toward Duke for being proudly elitist and snobby. Chapel Hill is a lot like Lawrence as well. Very cool college town. Durham is kind of meh, other than the food and beer. Just not my style but I know a lot of folks who really like it.

Gus Malzahn just lost again, dropping Auburn to 4-3. There’s definitely a lot of discontent down there and it would only be mildly surprising if he got fired.

I still think Miles is the guy but there will be some legit options out there for how much Long can offer.

New 2019 Recruiting • Oct 13, 2018 04:52 PM

Cole Anthony to cut his list. I’d be surprised if KU is on it. Guessing UNC, Oregon, Notre Dame, Pitt, Georgetown. I’d be surprised if he went anywhere but Carolina.

Best Passer... EVER • Oct 12, 2018 03:39 AM

Charlie is a good player. Going to be a canned offense kind of guy if we’re on a brutal offensive stretch.

The rotation is going to be Dotson, Garrett, Grimes, K.J., Vick, Dedric, Doke, Silvio, and probably Mitch. Could see Dave against select opponents though.

The Death Of College Basketball • Oct 12, 2018 03:30 AM

I’ve tried, but I really don’t get the objections to immediate eligibility for transfers. I can leave my university tomorrow and start work during the spring semester, but an athlete has to wait a year? Makes no sense to me given how easy the logistics are for everyone.

2019 Recruiting • Oct 09, 2018 12:37 AM

I really like where KU is at with Zeke. I think it's more likely than not he's a Jayhawk.

WVU Game • Oct 09, 2018 12:35 AM

A G5 team will never get in unless every other P5 team has at least 2 losses, and even then some weird stuff has to happen, like the best teams losing their divisions.

2019 Recruiting • Oct 06, 2018 10:54 PM

Hurt is 100% waiting until spring. Zeke is TDB and JRE is signing early.

2019 Recruiting • Oct 05, 2018 08:39 PM

Precious was at Memphis last night. There are some red flags in his recruitment that are keeping the blue bloods away. He’s kind of similar to Hurt in stature, but a much better athlete and not nearly as skilled (yet). Much better fit as a 4 man. I think we take JRE and Zeke early, and Hurt late. Can’t see us taking 4 bigs unless something weird happens like Mitch grad transferring.

Also in the other Late Night visitor category, rumors persist that N’Faly Dante may reclassify to 2019 come spring. I don’t look for KU to be a huge factor if we land JRE and Hurt.

FBI...here we go • Oct 03, 2018 09:06 PM

Barring a much more substantial paper trail, I can’t see the NCAA coming down on anyone. If they do, everyone’s going down with us.

@FarmerJayhawk Les Miles is going to be the biggest name on the list and I believe that's who Long is maneuvering to try and land with some of these hires that he's made so far. Vollmer has a long standing relationship with Les Miles. Les Miles is also a pretty known name in college football along with his reputation and quirks so hiring someone to specifically run the PR side of KU Athletics seems like another move to try and get Miles.

Beyond Les Miles, I don't see a realistic candidate out there that's going to immediately blow people away with his resume.

Yep. Miles is gonna be the guy Long really targets. Probably sooner rather than later. Guessing Willie Fritz is plan B. Not sure any of the younger G5 up and comers give serious thought to KU, even at $3m+ per year.

Reading different message boards, and discussing with friends / other people it blows my mind at the names being thrown out. I have said multiple times that KU people are going to be very dissapointed at the names on the true target list.

Strong disagree. Long has a giant checkbook and strong reputation at his disposal. Zenger had neither.

I don’t think we’ll get all 3 because Silvio should be back. But it sounds like he may pop this weekend so we’ll see! Good problem to have.

Call me crazy, but I would wait until JRE and Hurt decide before I take a commitment from someone that might push them away. Those two have been the centerpieces of this 2019 class for sometime now. Not sure why Self and Co would stray away from that.

Probably because Hurt is still kind of a wildcard at this stage. I think KU leads but that’s also not worth much given how little effort Matt has put into the process so far. If he’s scared off by a multi year kind of guy, doesn’t say a lot about him as a player.

But 2/3 of the big targets looks pretty likely at this point. Then we can sort it all out come spring. If Silvio is back I’d start him at the 5 anyway.

Rich Rod • Oct 01, 2018 03:45 AM

@BShark Without a doubt. I've always loved Gus, from even back in his Springdale days. It would be dumb as hell to fire him, but could be KU's MASSIVE gain.

Rich Rod • Oct 01, 2018 03:34 AM

I wouldn't HATE Rich Rod, but wouldn't like it much either. Here's another name I heard over the weekend: Gus Malzahn. There's some big time Auburn folks who want him gone (because they're insane) and their AD is tired of being second fiddle to Bama. If Gus gets fired, I expect Long to make him a priority candidate. I also think his system would be a great fit for KU and the Big 12. Very run heavy, but lots of eye candy and personnel groupings that can put defenses in significant conflict if they aren't disciplined, as Big 12 defenses tend not to be. Also can recruit the region, with his ties to Arkansas, Oklahoma, and Texas.

2019 Recruiting • Oct 01, 2018 03:30 AM

@BShark Definitely. I was pretty surprised. I look at Zeke as Silvio insurance. Or if something weird happens and JRE pops for UNC, which I don't think happens.

2019 Recruiting • Sep 30, 2018 08:07 PM

@Woodrow not yet. He won’t get back to Florida until this afternoon so we may not hear for a few days.

Wiseman’s visit seems to have gone great. Kentucky looks really strong for 2-3 bigs other than Wiseman. Maybe KU more a factor than previously thought?

McBride should be a Jayhawk. We’ll see on Stanley.

@kjayhawks Also, Les Miles is an offensive guy and calls his plays and run his offense regardless of who his offensive coordinator is. He's had OC's from different backgrounds, but LSU's offense never changed because it was Miles system.

Wait what. Cam Cameron, Matt Canada, and Jimbo Fisher 100% called plays. Les changed the call once in awhile but he never was the every down play caller. Unless he had a magic invisible call sheet with him during every game.
