To break the record without breaking rules is awesome. Even coach said several years ago 'if you don't come close to breaking some rules you aren't doing your job.'
This accomplishment isn't as great as how it was achieved. Young men played hard, went to class and were strong examples of what college athletics was all about. Was there a few bumps in the road-- yes. They took their lumps. apologized and became better people because of the incidents.
Sometimes trying to do it the right way has it's rewards.
Congratulations to all Jayhawks that are a part of the 14 year streak! To the board that wanted the streak over the NC glad you got what you wanted, come back from time to time to see what else this season brings! RCJHK!
Not that other teams haven't, we have had injuries to key players at tournament time.

Let me ask this question: How many more consecutive titles do we have to win without a an accompanying NC before the streak becomes a burden?
Let me ask another question. Would you mind losing the streak this year (could happen) if we went on and won the NC? I would in a half a heartbeat!
Good discussion, you all have valid points.
I posted this question on a post earlier this month or the end of January and while we were struggling the board basically said the streak was more important than winning a NC. Several said that stating they didn't think we could win it anyway.
The measurement of b-ball success is NC's. Then final fours and this is only hype for tv and conversations. If anything less than NC was important there would still be a 3rd place game.
The streak is a school record!

l don't think OSU or TCU is in any position to throw a game and be guaranteed of getting to the big Dance. WVU is safely in but can't see them purposely losing at home. Knocking KU off the streak is on all the teams minds but l doubt they lose any sleep if it doesn't affect their tourney expectations.

As @HighEliteMajor said about small banners...but getting 14 would actually be its own pinnacle achievement. Does it morph into a big banner in its own right?
The easy part of this answer is that #14 is right in front of us. It comes first. They are not technically mutually exclusive. After the conf race is over, it becomes Tourney time.
You actually get to choose both. But #14 really means something, different that all the others. And 14 would make all of the other 13’s teams all bound together as one big KU family. Whereas Mario’s and Danny’s NC teams are their own exclusive club. Past players are rooting hard for 14 as it makes their own conf championships suddenly matter alot. Everybody couldn’t have done it without everybody else!
Nobody said you could choose both. If that was an option only a classless Baylor Bear or Fran wouldn't pick both.
It looks like the board is slightly leaning toward championship #14. Wonder how the vote would be the first week in March?
What's more important: League championship #14 in a row or a trip to the Final Four?

This team is just not that good. Self is usually masterful at getting pieces to fit and become better than the sum of all of the parts. There are some good pieces. The pieces are better than losing to ASU and Oklahoma State at home. The pieces are better than being handled by Washington, Baylor, and Tech. They were also better than Oklahoma but their coach failed them. This team lacks cohesion. This team lacks F.O.E.
There may be a problem; there is a problem. We don't know all the situations, we can only speculate.

Self’s plan is clear now, even if so far painfully ineffective.
Play a down the middle game with only three scorers (Devonte, Doke down the middle with Svi on a wing for kick outs) and two glue guys that defend and board; this is old 3-2 Okie Ball.
Somebody forgot to tell Svi he was one of the guys that was suppose to score.

Self did address Sam awhile back, said he simply wasn't doing what he needed to in practice to earn minutes

If Self wants to win another conference title he has to change back to a 4 guard line up and let our guys freelance on the perimeter IMO.

@Fightsongwriter Self has always had a short leash. When 3's were not as popular that got a lot of people yanked including Brannen Greene at times.
l wouldn't trade Self for any other coach, but he has a always stressed man to man defense. But where he fails IMO is all you have to do to win is score more.
Trae Young wouldn't be averaging 30 for KU.

Graham can't do it all by himself. As good as he his he's not that good. Svi looked to be the Robin to Batman Grahan. However he has completely fallen of the map. Weird.
This two Big man rotation of Mitch seems to have derailed. Let's face it with this current crop of big men, KU has only 8 fouls to give in the paint. Very hard to play that way. If the refs have a tight whistle KU bigs are in big trouble.
\- Sadly the worst and this just dawned on me. Yet It appears to me there is a lack of chemistry on the court with this current KU team. What was a undeniable strength of this team (Guard play). Has become a ver big weakness.
Anyways my frustrations are out. Believe Coach can this KU team can right the ship.
We would have more fouls to give if Silvio doesn't go ape shit in his first minute on the floor. Two fouls were ridiculouse on Lightfoot.

Self wouldnt even play him 1min in our March loss to Villanova. We needed another shooter that day to help Frank, DTae, Wayne, Perry...but BGs KU career culminated with his not being available right when we needed him the most.
Is this the same Brannen Greene that nearly died in the Bronx a couple of years ago? What happened to Once a Jayhawk, Always a Jayhawk?

EDIT: You know, I’ve thought about the above post, and it is too negative and critical. I am proud of the players for bouncing back and finding a way to win one, on a night that Svi, Malik, and Lagerald were struggling. The team pulled together and fought for a win that was a must. Hats off to ya, boys. This is Solomons and no wins look very pretty in this jungle. But the fighting Jayhawks found a way, and that’s what counts. Rock Chalk again!
Svi, Malik and LaGerald struggled in many ways but turnovers and that's why they played the minutes they got. Garrett played half the minutes Vick played and was equal to or more productive.
Self coached more this game. On TCU last possession he subbed Garrett for Lightfoot before our last freethrow.
