@JayHawkFanToo Then a coach shouldn't be criticized for 4 or 5 years?
@JayHawkFanToo I agree with you but couldn't put it as eloquent. When is somebody held responsible for the choices?
This actually took place last month--
I never really had a Jeff Foxworthy moment "You might be a redneck if", but today l had a "You might be an old geezer" experience.
I needed to get lab done at a place l had never been before and l happened to know the receptionist. She was fantastic at taking my card and explaining what l needed to do. She then handed me two forms that needed to be filled out. The first one was very simple, the privacy act one. She saw that l was struggling to see what the blanks were and told me print your name, sign it and date it.
As l finished filling it out l saw the second form had lots of questions and l told her l had better go get my glasses from the car. She chuckled as l hurried off to get them. When l came back and began looking over the questions l was REALLY glad l had gotten my glasses and didn't require her help to fill in the blanks.
I had never been asked some of these questions before and l'm not completely sure l answered them correctly.
Question one: Sex at birth. What?
Another question: Sexual preference. OMG! One of the boxes for that one was: Don't want to reveal. l thought about checking that but figured that might put me on some watch list.
I don't want to mention some of the other questions, but the receptionist knew l was caught off guard. She had one of those sighs "l know". Transgender questions l could only guess at because of Bruce-Caitlyn coverage on tv.
Before l get caught off guard again filling out a questionaire l'm going to Goggle "Correct application answers for Old Geezers".
Texas Hawk 10 said: while KU has been a historic doormat since WWII.
Historic doormat might be accurate but is hard to swallow. The only thing harder to swallow is that the powers that be at KU don't rectify the football program.
When those powers decided Ted Owens teams weren't consistently winning enough games measures were taken to replace him and the right persons have since been guiding the program.
Football has never been that important to those in charge IMO and money along with conference alignments are the main reasons football is in the focus.
Yesterday KU women got their first league victory of the young conference season by downing TCU 86-77 in Allen Fieldhouse.
That pushed their season record to 10-3 including 2 overtime loses on the road.
Considering they lost their starting point guard and leading scorer Jessica Washington to a year ending injury before the season started success is even more convincing Schneider has them heading in the right direction.
I'm hoping the Preston situation will be resolved by the NCAA before the UNC investigation is finalized.
@mayjay I think it may have stemmed from the early game warning of being out of the coaching box. With all our technology why do we waste time on warnings and finally technicals on leaving the coaches area. Just put an ankle bracelet on that zaps them when they violate. It would be a mild one on sidelines violation and major zap (similar to tasers) when coming on the court.
@drgnslayr I too thought Bilas got on his high horse over the ref.
@kjayhawks Good one! Cyclowns might be the weak sister. Garrett is getting better and throws a different body in the mix. He is Vick a year ago. He seems to know his role and accept it eagerly. The defense will come when we have another body or two allowing rest. With what has taken place so far in 2017; 2018 looks promising. HAPPY NEW YEAR!
Maybe no pretenders in the Big 12.
@HawkChamp He's not the same player.
@HighEliteMajor Been a while since we could throw the ball to a post player and he took care of the ball and scored using multiple finishes.
I agree he is giving his best. I would have thought Hudy would have bulked him up a little in a year and a half.
The only thing worse than seeing Eddie Hightower doing a game is having Dickie V announcing it!
If AI stresses defense first and a high-lo offense l'm sure Bill would jump on it. But even if he's not the first one to instate AI; he would surely refine it to perfection.
Sorry to hear the news about Doke. Loved what attitude and effort he gave. While we are developing our big men post defense could we see if while he is suspended Grayson Allen could show our guards his defensive leg work?
Iss the game being streamed?
Merry Christmas everyone!
That's what I'm talking about! Rock Chalk Jayhawk!
Anyway to follow the game tonight other than ESPNU?
Student managers, hall monitors, student aides -- lots of titles have been used at KU to keep track of athletes. The AD maybe informed but the HC knows practically every move a basketball player makes concerning classes, tutoring sessions, workouts, shot arounds, etc. It's all in the best interests of the program and is IMO absolutely needed to accomplish high expectations.
@brooksmd Yeah for Haase. ISU not so cocky today!!!
@Crimsonorblue22 Born and raised in Hutch. Spent almost my whole life in Hutch except when I was in Lawrence.
@Crimsonorblue22 McClain was an assistant to Dave Farrar in 1988 when Hutch Juco won the championship as did the Jayhawks. Six years later 1994 McClain was the head coach at Hutch when they won another title.
That was the last game Hutch Juco would win in the national tournament until last night when the Hutch Blue Dragons downed Trinity Valley Texas 73-61 to advance to the quarter finals.
@JayhawkRock78 We owe a lot to Coach Brown; Danny, Bill Self. Great mind, great coach. It was always about his players and I love that. I'm sure there were other times that his players disregarded his coaching but I'm sure glad on one night in'88 when he pleaded with them to slow the pace down, they didn't!
Kick the Bruins butt coach, they shouldn't be dancing!
@ParisHawk I'll root for Texas now for your nieces sake; at least a couple of games. God bless her!
@nuleafjhawk The Octagon of Dung....
I'm sure Angel is glad he transferred!
KU women lost last night in the first round of the Big 12 tournament to KSU (for the third time this year).
Too many turnovers, missed opportunities at the free throw line and layups and wrong people taking shots. TWO baskets in the first half. Can't figure out how to break a 2-3 defense, time outs were a disaster as has been the case for years.
Bonnie has taken her team as far as KU women have ever went in the NCAA tourney, twice.
This scenario is similar to Ted Owens era.
Ted Owens was a great coach, took his teams to final fours and is to this day an awesome individual; a class act. The decision was made that KU needed a change and the Owens era ended. That change has ended up pretty good for KU basketball.
Thank you Bonnie for your time and efforts at KU. Bonnieball is over!
@KUSTEVE We can complain about fouls in about every game we played in this year too. I might be wrong but this years seems to have produced more muggings around the basket than any year I can ever remember. Our team, their team you might as well flip a coin on who the calls going on. Poor refereeing!
@wrwlumpy You can ask the same question about the Big 12 league. Don't get me wrong winning all those in a row is awesome, almost unbelievable, but it doesn't really mean squat: seating in the league tourney. Coach will say you've got goals, win league, win league tourney, win nationals. At Kansas, you could go undefeated every year until the NCAA tourney, lose the first game, go 34-1 and the year would be a disappointment, right?
@nuleafjhawk don't forget about the geese theory! Honk Honk!
Huggy says: "We deserved to win". Surely he knows this, but some may not "It's not always the team that plays the best that wins; But the best team almost always Wins!"
!westvirginia-hugginsx-large.jpg ↗ Don't look back Huggy! Beware of the Phog!
@SoftballDad2011 Welcome and feel at home. He played 29 minutes yesterday, had three fouls. Foul trouble may have limited the minutes. Don't you think the press enjoys putting down Self because they are jealous of his accomplishments out here in the midwest?
@wrwlumpy He does hear us! Honk! Honk!
@Crimsonorblue22 Texas 24-23 7:19
@Crimsonorblue22 Texas 24-21 8:20
Do Bears poo in the West Virginia woods?
Even though a victory for you would be good for us! Sorry KSU, I can't root for you today for fear for ISU players and coaches.
@RockChalkinTexas The only reason I see we get a high seed year in and year out for the big dance is obviously because the selection committee shows too much respect for the other teams in our league we beat. Your right, we're probably deservant of a 4 or 5 seed because the league is a bunch of also rans.
@jaybate-1.0 Big guy you've done it again. From great minds come great ideas and you've done it again. At first, I thought how can we all share. When I watch the game Saturday I'll have the volume tuned up listening for one of brothers to honk-honk at Allen. Texas won't know what hit them. When that honk vibrates through the crowd our battle cry Slaughter the Shorthorns will be sounded for the first time. But there's more to Jaybate-1.0's idea than just inside Allen Field House. This cry can go viral. We need to step outside our homes wherever we are at tip off and let the Honk Heard "round the World be sounded.
I'm checking my Duck Dynasty stock after this post. Remember it's not the size of the honkers that count, it's the fact we are birds of a feather and we will be globally flocking together.
We have a battle cry for Saturday and we'll have to form a new one for every opponent, but I doubt that will be a problem. Let us never forget-- Remember the Maine, Remember the Alamo, Remember the Honk-Honk.
I would like to offer a word of caution, as @nuleafjhawk warned there's going to be poo. Even though it might be friendly poo be advised against looking up while honking.
Lessons from Geese
'Individual empowerment results from quality honking'
Lessons from Geese provides a perfect example of the importance of team work and how it can have a profound and powerful effect on any form of personal or business endeavour. When we use these five principles in our personal and business life it will help us to foster and encourage a level of passion and energy in ourselves, as well as those who are our friends, associates or team members.
It is essential to remember that teamwork happens inside and outside of business life when it is continually nurtured and encouraged.
Lesson 1 - The Importance of Achieving Goals
As each goose flaps its wings it creates an UPLIFT for the birds that follow. By flying in a 'V' formation the whole flock adds 71 percent extra to the flying range.
Outcome
When we have a sense of community and focus, we create trust and can help each other to achieve our goals.
Lesson 2 - The Importance of Team Work
When a goose falls out of formation it suddenly feels the drag and resistance of flying alone. It quickly moves back to take advantage of the lifting power of the birds in front.
Outcome
If we had as much sense as geese we would stay in formation with those headed where we want to go. We are willing to accept their help and give our help to others.
Lesson 3 - The Importance of Sharing
When a goose tires of flying up front it drops back into formation and another goose flies to the point position.
Outcome
It pays to take turns doing the hard tasks. We should respect and protect each other's unique arrangement of skills, capabilities, talents and resources.
Lesson 4 - The Importance of Empathy and Understanding
When a goose gets sick, two geese drop out of formation and follow it down to the ground to help and protect it.
Outcome
If we have as much sense as geese we will stand by each other in difficult times, as well as when we are strong.
Lesson 5 - The Importance of Encouragement
Geese flying in formation 'HONK' to encourage those up front to keep up with their speed.
Outcome
We need to make sure our honking is encouraging. In groups and teams where there is encouragement, production is much greater. 'Individual empowerment results from quality honking'
The original version of Lessons from Geese was written by Dr Robert McNeish in 1972
@wissoxfan83 disagree somewhat that "losing first rounders almost feels like it". Half the teams in the tourney lose their first game, every year more quality teams get left out of the big dance that shouldn't have. Drop the NIT tourney, add another round to the NCAA. Give league champions automatic berths and league tournament champions. Drop 2 regular season games, start the tourney one week earlier. TV revenue will make up for loss of home games. Pretty simple. Play a couple of nights at Madison Square so they don't pout.
There needs to be an apology for the KSU AD's apology!!!!!!
@JayHawkFanToo izzo's teams always lose more than they should in my estimation, but no one wants to play them in the tourney. Unlike Self, Izzo believes there is such a thing as a good loss!
@cragarhawk Have to disagree with you. Regular season wins are fine. Winning the league is fine, even though it means very little, yes #1 seed in league tourney, but #2 might be a better bracket. I want final fours and NC's. Give me that and sub par regular season is acceptable especially if it necessary to obtain the big ring.
We are a young team, very young. We will make rookie mistakes--- fouling a three point shot, not once but twice. We have to live with that, not like it. For lack of a better example KSU football is in every game because they don't beat themselves. It takes many of those players three or four years to get playing time and still they have to do it Snyder's way or they get jerked. KU basketball doesn't have that luxury because of players leaving early. Self plays the toughest schedule, demands his style and gets great results year after year.
There are great coaches out there, but none I would trade for Self.
@stupidmichael Lot's of Roy's teams missed free throws especially late in the game. Too much running in practices led too exhaustion in games.
When 'Ol Roy was at KU. he was asked why he called so few TO's and answered that he was afraid he would get out coached during them. I think he still suffers that trauma today and rightfully so as coaching has really improved in the last 20 years along with athletic talent.....
