@nuleafjhawk

Probably all of the above...:smiley:

@wrwlumpy

To many people, likely the majority, what you call the "stupid law" is not the problem and the real issue is the law that created a problem where none (or a small one) existed in the first place and made it into a big issue...and yes, I know people that are LGBT and I know that even that community is divided on the issue. This is a political issue so I will not comment on it any further.

By the way, Wichita is scheduled to host 1st and 2nd round NCAA next year.

Sounds like Markelle is a good student... ↗

2017-18 Schedule • Mar 30, 2017 04:45 PM

@Texas-Hawk-10

Michael Porter said he might consider staying a second year to play with his brother...and pass the big money? I seriously doub it.

...or Markellev Fultz...

2017-18 Schedule • Mar 30, 2017 04:17 PM

@Crimsonorblue22

Apparently he was talking to the uncommitted players at the McDonalds All American game about coming to MU.

2017-18 Schedule • Mar 30, 2017 04:13 PM

@Crimsonorblue22

Quite a bit different. Jackson always wore number 11 and when he came to KU he talked to Tyler who voluntarily gave him the number. " target="_blank" rel="noopener">http://m.kusports.com/weblogs/tale-tait/2016/aug/29/why-ku-freshman-josh-jackson-wears-no-11/?templates=mobile) ↗

Porter, on the other hand, wore #1 in HS and now wants a different number and one that has been used by a two year starter and challenged him to play one on one for the number. Highly disrespectful in my opinion.

Sometimes is not what you do but how you do it. Jackson did it the right way and Porter the wrong way, in my opinion.

2017-18 Schedule • Mar 30, 2017 03:35 PM

@BShark

The honeymoon at MU will not last long if they do not become competitive in conference games early and often. The last few years have been the worst stretch for the program that I can remember. MU has gone way out on a limb with whom I consider an average coach at best and I am sure the school, boosters and fans are expecting a quick turnaround and there is going to be a huge backlash if it does not happen...soon...

2017-18 Schedule • Mar 30, 2017 03:17 PM

Porter seems to be the selfish type of player that is so full of himself that reality does not matter. The fact that he wants to take the number of a player that has been a two year starter and he is yet to play a single game tells me that he is only interested in what is in it for him and not the team and likely a locker room cancer...good fit at MU.

Mason • Mar 30, 2017 03:07 PM

@FarNrthJHwk

Minot was one of the larger cities, the others were Willistone and Watford with huge development due to the Bakken field oil boom that now appears to be going bust. Big rewards but more suited for younger individuals.

2017-18 Schedule • Mar 30, 2017 02:34 PM

@Hawk8086

Didn't you hear? Porter indicated his goal is to win a National Title with MU. 😴

@mayjay

You still don't get it. The coin flip analogy is completely not applicable n this case. You are trying to apply a deterministic statistical approach to a process with multiple variables and random outcomes and where a Bayesian Probability Approach is in order. I will not go in detail on what this it because it would bore the bejesus out of everybody here...and probably me too... but you can probably google it and get the general idea. I have myself worked more with Markov Chains since is is more applicable to the work I do but my friend is an expert n Bayesian Probability Analysis, since that is more applicable to the field he is in.

This is quickly getting our of hand and it is time that we get back to just plain ol' KU basketball.

P.S. I have not talked to my friend in a while but I will see if I still have his phone number; I believe he retired a couple of year ago.

@jaybate-1.0

You forgot college professors...

@mayjay

No, I am not missing the point. When the #1 seed play the #16 seed the game has two possible outcomes, right? but they are not even close to being equal in probability as it would be when you flip a coin...so far the #1 seed is 100% and the #16 seed is 0%. Again, just because there are two possible outcomes it does not mean they have equal chances.

Again, you are comparing coin flipping where the perfectly balanced coin never changes and the flip is is exactly the same every time to an event in which the teams are different every time and also from year to year and with a different winning possibility every single game based on team personnel at the time of the game. For example, this year we had #1 Gonzaga playing #11 Xavier and #1 UNC playing #2 Kentucky; this is how much variation there is in the Elite 8.

A friend of mine is a top actuary for a well know insurance company and he always laughs at the way sports writers use statistics, more often than not incorrectly...we used to have very interesting conversations on the subject although I mostly listened and learned because even when I have a pretty good working knowledge on the subject he is in a different league than I am.

Nice try...but still no cigar.

KU 5th all time • Mar 30, 2017 12:40 AM

@jayballer54

I respectfully submit that anything that goes back to 1939 has only entertainment value and nothing else. If you really want to rank the programs based on the current status of the sport, you should go back 10-15 years but probably no more than that. Keep in mind that the prospects that will be looking at your program were barely 1 or 2 year old 15 years ago.

Yes, it is nice to say are number...whatever...since 1939, but does it really mean anything other than bragging? I personally think not...but I could be wrong.

KU Players Leaving/Staying Tracker • Mar 30, 2017 12:26 AM

@Texas-Hawk-10

Keep in mind that Malik has been practicing all season long against the best guard pair ion college basketball and it is not unfeasible that his play has improved considerably. The combine would be the place where NBA team properly evaluate him.

Bragg's best chance to make it to the League is to shine at KU. If he is not good enough to earn playing time at KU, being the best player in a mid major program will not help much, particularly when he would have to sit one year. If he is not NBA material playing at KU, playing for mid-major will not change this.

@mayjay

A little late to the game but I decide to give myself a little break from posting to recover from the loss and avoid the acrimony that follows a loss in the tournament.

The coin flip analogy is one that is often used to make a point but in this case, as it is in most other cases where its is used, not an applicable one.

First, the coin flip statistic assumes that you are using ONE perfectly balanced coin, with each side having a perfect 50% chance and the number becomes more accurate with a larger number of coin flips; a small sample will not necessarily show a perfect distribution. Second, every Elite 8 has different teams with different players that change from year to year, so this alone invalidates the comparison. Third, the winning probability of teams playing in the Elite 8 is not a perfect 50% but often something quite different and last, the sample is not big enough to show a definite trend.

Nice try but no cigar...a consolation single malt is OK.

KU Players Leaving/Staying Tracker • Mar 29, 2017 11:54 PM

Interesting news about players with whom we are somewhat familiar.

Lonzo Ball, following on his father's footsteps and family tradition stated that he is better than Markelle Fultz; way to to impress NBA GMs...negatively, of course.

Michael Porter Jr., indicated that he wants to wear the number he had in HS, the problem is that Terrence Phillips, who stared for MU for 2 years, currently wears the same number. Porter indicated they should play one-on-one for the number... ↗ what a way to start your career by destroying team chemistry. I see MU being like Washington was this season, a team with a superstar but still a conference bottom feeder.

KU Players Leaving/Staying Tracker • Mar 29, 2017 11:43 PM

Here are my thought on player status...

Josh, Frank and Landen are gone...duh...

Svi comes back to finish his degree and improve his draft status.

Devonte is back after the Oregon game knocked him way down second round to not-drafted.

Vick will be back and probably start or at least get considerable playing time.

Bragg will use the off-season to sync his mind and new body and with good coaching he might yet be the player we all thought he could be.

Garret will be a very pleasant surprise.

Preston will contribute greatly if he qualifies to play at all. 50-50 chance at this point

Doke will progress nicely and be in beats mode buy Conference play.

Lightfoot will continue to progress and we will see flashes of what he will do in his junior and senior years.

I see Newman as a 50-50 chance of leaving.

Cunlife will be a good contributor but not a game changer.

Juiston, if he comes to KU ,will be a Jamari type of player. He has dominated in JuCo but Division I is a while different game.

Coleby will see increased pay time but not starter minutes.

As usual, Coach Self will gete a surprise recruit in the off-season.

KU will win Conference Title #14.

@HighEliteMajor

I subscribe to the opinion that much like children, refs should be seen and not heard. When the after-game conversation includes the refs, to me it is a sure sign of a poorly officiated game. The best officiated game is when refs are never mentioned afterwards. Oh well...one can always dream.

Mason • Mar 29, 2017 11:13 PM

@FarNrthJHwk

I admire and respect what you are doing. A while back I looked at some nice opportunities in North Dakota and decided it was for a younger person since I am now too used to the comfort of the suburbs...plus it would be difficult for me to move away from the children and grandchildren.

@BigBad

Lots of NBA teams are now weary of Giles and he might drop to the second round. No question he has talent but the injury history is worrisome. Oden is still the poster boy for drafting players with known injury histories and Embiid might end up there although he still has not reached that point.

BTW, Selden now has a full 2-year contract with the Grizzlies and he even started one game already.

Mason • Mar 29, 2017 10:55 PM

@FarNrthJHwk

Very interesting. Absolutely beautiful country in the warmer months but I am not sure I would like to live there year around, particularly in the colder months.

Recruiting Master Thread Part Deux • Mar 29, 2017 10:50 PM

Graham was listed as a mid to late second round before the tournament and if he had continued playing like he did against MSU and Purdue and KU advanced he could have moved to early second round to late first round; however, his play against Oregon probably hurt him big time and now he is probably a late second to not-drafted. I would expect him to come back and aim for a Mason-like season to improve his stock.

@FarNrthJHwk

Ken Pomeroy rates refs ↗ and Higgins is rated very high...go figure...

@BigBad

I went to UD and got two degrees from there and then came to KU for the doctorate. Absolutely great basketball fans and the Arena is one of the best places to watch basketball. Johnny Davis was my next door neighbor at Stuart Hall before I moved to Marycrest Hall...good times...:smiley:

KU got beat by a better team • Mar 27, 2017 07:44 PM

I don't believe Oregon is a better team than KU; KU simply picked the wrong game to go cold and it is unlikely it would happen two games in a row.

Coach Self had a good game plan and KU should have won the game. if you watched the game you know that most of the shots KU took were not only wide open but shots that KU player make routinely at a high clip, as in the MSU and Purdue games, but Saturday just were not going in and with a great rim protector, penetrating was not the best option as shown by the 8 blocks Oregon had. Even with all the cold shooting, KU came within 6 point with under 3 minutes left but went scoreless from then on.

I am a big proponent of making the games from the Elite 8 on a 2 out of 3 series. I bet that if KU plays Oregon two more times, it probably wins the other two.

Here comes the BOOM...

@Bwag

Early celebration, I like the optimism.

@Bwag

Heard you loud and clear bro...

Drive early, drive often, foul them up early and take them out of the game. I want to see Tyler get a career high in points.

Okay This Is Funny • Mar 25, 2017 11:30 PM

@truehawk93

Looked like he wanted to get out of there. Maybe he just wants to get his first contract and own money so he can tell daddy Ball...so long.

@drgnslayr

After 6 games the Tournament is over so no more lines...👍

Now, if you mean would KU be favorite on the sixth and final game, the line would open where Vegas thinks half the money will be bet on each team and it would changes if betting become unbalanced.

Miller is by far the best of the up and coming coaches. A Home Run hire in my opinion. Would have made a great candidate when Coach Self retires.

The classy wildcats strike again • Mar 25, 2017 06:04 PM

Looks like Altman has been carrying a grudge since 1988...really? Maybe if he would have been a better coach back then KSU would have gotten a shot...obviously he got schooled by Larry Brown.

The comment was uncalled for and he has now lost the respect of a lot of fans...why do it when he is so long removed from KSU?

Okay This Is Funny • Mar 25, 2017 04:10 AM

@Lulufulu

It was tongue in cheek parody. I figured that mentioning 25 conference titles would be a clue since Coach Self has been at KU only 14 years. I don't believe he would be that stupid but considering the comments he has made to date it sure sounds like something he would say.

I guess his big mouth wrote a check about UCLA that his kid could not cover. I feel sorry for his kid.

Let the firings begin • Mar 24, 2017 09:19 PM

@mayjay

Yes, Ewing seems to be the popular pick but is it necessarily the best? He has been an assistant in the NBA for a number of years and I know he has interviewed many time for open HC positions in the past but he has yet to get a HC job. He has been away from college bball for a while now and the younger generation probably does not know him well since the last time he played in the NBA was 15 years ago and even in his glory years he was overshadowed by other more popular players and, he never won a Championship in the League. He is 54 now.

Also, and unlike other well know layers from that time that did not win titles such as Barkley, he has not had a visible media presence; Not too many people know...or care... who NBA assistants are. Yes, he is well known among Georgetown fans but I am not sure the younger prospect know who he is since many were probably not born when he last played meaningful minutes in the NBA.

2012 vs. 2017 • Mar 24, 2017 08:58 PM

@Eric-san

The defense Coach Self and the team have unveiled for the Tournament is like nothing we have seen before and a thing of beauty. They were saving the best for last and it is giving the other teams fits since scouting would have indicated that KU's defense was the weak link.

Let the firings begin • Mar 24, 2017 08:51 PM

@BShark

That would be indeed a good hire. I understand is pretty much down top Mack and Archie Miller from Dayton. If it was Miller, I imagine they would have already announced so it makes sense that they are waiting on Mack. Steve Alford would have been the home run hire, but Mack is at least a triple..

Mason • Mar 24, 2017 08:23 PM

Here is a ESPN story ↗about Mason being the leader. Swanigan is second followed by Heart, Ball and Motley. No question that barring a complete collapse by Mason and Ball suddenly averaging 40 ppg, neither of which is likely, Mason should get the nod.

Reverse 360 • Mar 24, 2017 08:02 PM

@nuleafjhawk

I guess it comes down to not getting caught. It is like when a player shoves another and the second player retaliates and always gets called even when the other player started it...and also depends on which school's checks to the refs cleared first. :smile:
