I am not sure where they stand on Coach Self's rotation, but in my opinion...and it is just that...and based on what I saw in the first two games, I believe Lightfoot has played and has better numbers than Bragg.
I will take Kentucky and the 4 points against Michigan State. MSU wins by double digits.
Calvert Cheaney a Jayhawks? What am I missing here?
Probably Svi or Jackson. I can see Coach Self putting Davonte or Vick on him to pester him and draw fouls. Remember that Davonte outplayed Buddy Hield who is probably better than OG Anunoby.
Don't underestimate UK. Yes, they played a heavily under matched team but they still have more potential talent than just about anyone.
Yep.
I was just pointing out that blanket statements sometimes do not cover all situations, that is all.
Looks like our 2 most recent NCAA titles (1988 and 2008 ) are more recent than the last one IU has ( 2007).
3 pick from KU, better than #1 from UK, #1 from Duke and #1 from LSU.
Ahh...the uniforms...#35 looks like he is wearing Speedos. LOL.
I just don't see why Lightfoot would red-shirt. At this point I place him ahead of Bragg and Coleby and he looks like he will be a good contributor to the team.
A player could still get a medical red-shirt even if he has played several games already.
To be eligible for a medical hardship waiver, a student-athlete has to meet the following criteria:
- The student-athlete must suffer the injury during one of their four seasons of college competition or during the senior year of high school.
- The injury must be incapacitating. That means it must be a season-ending injury.
- The injury must occur prior to the start of the second half of the season.
- The student-athlete must not have competed in more than 30% of the season or three contests, whichever is greater.
Wiggins position is SF whose primary responsibility is not rebounding or assists but scoring; PF and Centers are the primary rebounders and guards do the assists. He has a career average of ~20 points, 4+ rebounds and 2+ assists per game.
The Kentucky game reported they did the mannequin thing there as well...
I thought that maybe they were talking about this...
Have you considered that KU might not be a good fit for him? Depending on who leaves and who stays there might be very little playing time available and the better players want to play immediately so they can showcase their talents for NBA scouts.
The only players that are leaving for sure are Mason Lucas and Self. If this is the case, Graham and Vick with be the de-facto top two starting guards and we have 3 players ready to replace Lucas. Until leter in the season, we will not know who else is leaving or staying.
Troy Brown is a SF and if Svi and Jackson leave he would have a good chance of getting playing time; if they don't. he would be coming off the bench after these two. I can see why he would not want to come to KU unless he waits until the Spring to see if they are leaving.and obviously he is not waiting.
KU does not have the depth...yet...to play a complete game. Once the backup go in the level goes down quite a bit. This is why it takes a while to re-built a football team; you need a lot of capable bodies. In basketball you get 4 or 5 good players and a few capable backups and you have decent team; in football you need more like 40-50 decent players.
Coach Self indicated that Lucas needs to step up because he will be need to play at least 25 minutes per game. He also indicated that Devonte has been cramping up a lot lately and the trainers are working with him to figure out why. One time he was fouled and went to the line to take the shots, he stayed bend over for a while; I thought he maybe got a low blow but in hindsight it could have been cramps.
You said:
"That can closely determine vertical but players extend further during a jump and in mid-air as they stretch their bodies between their mid-section and their finger tips."
...and this is exactly what the device measures...we must be talking about a different device; there are several variation of it. This is the one I am talking about... ↗
KU won the second half against WVU 21-17...
116 point in the paint, 19 blocked shots and only 6-19 from the 3. No question that they had a huge height advantage and used to the hilt. The tallest player for Asbury is a 6'-7" freshman, they also have another 6'-7" sophomore and a 6'-6" freshman and the rest are a lot shorter than that...why even schedule a team, like (Asbury enrollment is 1,800 total) that and the run up the score on them? Very unsportsmanlike in my opinion.
Probably trying to eclipse the 150-95 pasting KU put on them in 1989.
Stats stuffers seldom make the team better. Wiggins is neither an alpha dog nor a stat stuffer, he is the ultimate team players.
I was looking at these number earlier and shaking my head. It seem that Carlton has let the hype and expectations get to him and his head is just not in the game. Maybe he needs to start thinking about staying one more year and get the expectation monkey of his back and go back top playing basketball unencumbered and having fun while doing it.
For KU to be as successful as predicted, Bragg needs to have a good to very good season. 2 points, 4 rebounds, 5 turnover (out of 11 total) and 5 fouls in 15 minutes is what you get from an end of bench player in a pinch and not form a starter.
The scheme to play 4 guards with Bragg at center is just not happening right now. I can see going with Lucas or Lightfoot or maybe even Dok ahead of Bragg at this time.
I told you that Lightfoot would be the breakout player for KU; so far, so good. At this point I would put him ahead of Bragg and Coleby, based on performance to date. He might end up being the steal of the class.
I don't know what to make of Bragg. He has the tools, he has been in the system for a year now but he seems at time lost and to have butter fingers, missed a dunk early when the ball seem to squirt off his hands, then he missed a couple of rebounds by not being able to hold on to the ball. One time 3 KU players go after the rebound with no ESU players around, fumble the ball that goes out of bound for the turnover...embarrassing.
You are absolutely correct. I don't multi task that well anymore. LOL.
I know. Mario is still recovering from ACL surgery and shoul be available midway in the season. Kirk was not picked up but as the season progresses and players get injured, there is a decent chance tha he might get picked up. We would need both to be activated otherwise we have no PG.
You are actually talking about two different types of jumps that measure two different things. The first and better known measures how high you can reach, the second measures how much height you can clear.
In the first type the taller, athletic players, particularly those with long legs have the advantage since the legs act as springs and the longer the springs, the higher the jump. The second type depends not only on how high you can propel yourself up but also how much you can compress your legs; in this type of jump being shorter (less body to compress) would have the advantage, this is why good jumper that are not too tall have the advantage.
The equipment to measure high reach is very simply and yet very effective and essentially every gym has it. You simply measure the standing reach and then the player jumps either from a standing position or with a few running steps and moves the slats on the device which measure the very top of the fingers. Really simple, really effective.
Earl "the goat" Manigault, a legend of the New York playgrounds, particularly Rucker Park where he played with the likes of Lew Alcindor, who called him the the best ever, Connie Hawkins and Ear Monroe, was said to be able to jump and leave quarters on top of the blackboard and then jump again and retrieve them. He was only 6'-1". I have no doubt Wilt could have done that.
As long as the fans see progress, Beaty is safe. Most every knowledgeable fan and hopefully the administration knows that it will take at least 2-3 more years before KU is competitive. We should forget about changing coaches every couple of years. I have seen progress but we are not even close to being competitive quite yet. Given time hopefully we will be.
The only problem with that lineup is the lack of point guard. We would need Mario and Kirk to be competitive.
I don't know, you can probably look it up. Of course if we can get a healthy Mario and get Hinrich to play one more yer then we really have something since the lineup above is thin on PGs. Keith Langford could also be part of the team; he is one of the leading scorers in Europe.
The goal line stand will be a turning point for this team.
I can see an intense first half where the starters build a huge lead and a second half where there is a lot of experimentation.
That would be the core of a pretty decent NBA team, particularly with Bill Self as coach.
Look at it this way. The Dream Team was arguably the best team ever assembled and I believe it would handle the current USA team rather handily. Now, look which players on that team are even mentioned? Only Jordan, and mostly because of the merchandising.
Unfortunately we now live in a society where instant gratification and "what have you done for me lately" rule the news and admires people that are famous for being famous and utterly devoid of any talent whatsoever, like the Kardashians...unless you consider a huge rear end and a sex tape talent...
I predicted the Lady Hawks would win 3-0...considering the bad refereeing I will call it close enough.
Isn't that from Napoleon Dynamite?
I believe it is a lot simpler than that. Consider that he average 40 year old basketball commentator was not even born when Wilt retired from the NBA. The more plausible explanation is that most sports reporters never saw Wilt play and to them is a player from an older generation when the sport was young and information from that era is not easy to come by and there is no video to document some of the better performances from tha era. For example, the only documentation from the game where Wilt scored 100 points is a few press reports and a picture of him holding a sign; I am not sure there is a tape of the radio broadcast. Today, even the simplest event is captured for posterity not only by the media but also by 1000s of cell phone cameras.
Not true for the A10 which has consistently sent at least 3 teams in recent years. The current Bracketology ↗ lists 3 teams from the A10. BTW, VCU won the Tournament only one time in 2015 and it was promptly eliminated in the first game in the NCAA.. The VCU coaches before him in the Colonial and after him in the A10 have better records than he does at VCU (see numbers above). Like I sad, the legend of Shaka Smart is based in one NCAA Tournament run that included the win over KU and that is it; you might say that KU made Shaka Smart. LOL. With all the resources available to him at Texas, he is in a unique position to be successful...will he be? I don't know, the jury is still out. Just saying'
RussRob plays for King Szczecin in Poland; he is the starting PG.
Time to update the eye glass prescription. I just ordered my first set of hearing aids...ouch on the cost.
I blame it on @nuleafjhawk . LOL.
I don't either, just saying his record to date would not seem to indicate it will happen. Just my 2 cents.
Like I said, we are in uncharted territory with the likelihood of it ever happening being infinitesimal if at all possible. I am way out of my comfort zone or knowledge of the rules. Somebody with lot more knowldege would have to make that call. I am grasping at straws here...LOL.
Now you are grasping at straws. The Conference Tournament does not have nearly the weight of the regular season...ask any KU fan if they remember how many time KU has won the Conference Tournament...we all know how many Regular Season Conferences titles it has won, right?
You musts resist the temptation...Shaka is the dark side...
Hey...I already posted that link above....just kidding...LOL
Check it out here. I believe Keith would have been a great player in the NBA. He did well overseas.
Once KU fumbles and WVU recovers, it resets, then I believe the safety would be worth 2 points...but I could be wrong...we are in territory where the refs would huddle, check the rules, make a decision and the next day the NCAA says they got it wrong. LOL.
Sorry but wrong again...
At VCU the coaches were:
2009–2015 Shaka Smart, 6 seasons, Overall record 163–56 (.744), Conference - CAA/A-10: 74–30 (.712)
2006–2009 Anthony Grant, 3 seasons, Overall record 76–25 (.752), Conference - CAA: 45–9 (.833)
2002–2006 Jeff Capel ,4 seasons, Overall record 79–41 (.658), Conference - CAA: 50–22 (.694)
Hardly a doormat in the Colonial Conference; in fact, in the 3 years before Smart, Grant had a better overall and conference record and Capel was right there too. I already showed you that his successor, Bill Wade, had a better record than Smart and actually finished tied for 1sth in the A10 conference, something Smart has never been able to do...in any conference. You are just buying into the hype, Smart is all smoke and mirrors.
That would not work for KU because would have already scored a TD...
For KU to score only 1 point, West Virginia would have to have a PAT blocked, recover the ball, run backwards all the way to its own end zone and be tackled by KU there.
You think we get "try safety"?
