Even with as bad as the football program is it still makes lots of money. Imagine what a powerhouse KU could be with a successful football program.
We really don’t know this for a fact. He does know that if you don’t play defense you ride the pine and, unlike previous years, KU has plenty of very capable replacement players willing to play defense. He does have a disadvantage playing the taller PGs but not every PG is tall and he matches up with many of the shorter ones.
KU’s website.
Come on, you can do better than that. She is an extremely well known and competent attorney (argued 35 case in the Supreme and won 33 of them) and happens to be an Obama, Hillary supporter and very liberal whose idol is Justice Ginsburg, the most liberal Justice in recent memory and yet, she believes judge Kavanaugh is well qualified, “I am Spartacus” buffoonery moments notwithstanding.
As far as the Federalist Society, from the link you posted...
The society asserts that it "is founded on the principles that the state exists to preserve freedom, that the separation of governmental powers is central to our constitution, and that it is emphatically the province and duty of the judiciary to say what the law is, not what it should be."
Lawyers wanting to follow the Constitution, imagine that...oh the horror...
You know that there are many other comparable groups that advocate for liberal causes, right?

@JayHawkFanToo So, when Dedric takes a breather, what do you think the substitution order for him will be? Silvio, then Mitch? That sounds great to me.
Good question. It really will depends on the scheme Coach Self chooses to play. At this point I see Silvio spelling Doke rather than Dedric, at least until Big Dave is up to speed, which by extension means Mitch would go in for Dedric. Almost all of the KU players can play multiple positions. Looking at just the bigs...Dedrick 3-5, Silvio 4-5, Mitch 3-5, K.J. 2-4, Big Dave primarily 5 but could also play 4 and a Doke being the only that wil play only 5. Coach Self will have a lot of options and a lot of pieces to fill the spots.
Coach Self and many others have indicated that by conference time they like to have a 7 or 8 man primary rotation; this might be the year where he uses an extended rotation.

I will advocate almost anything that will keep KU from spending more money that could go to KU basketball on KU football! 😀
What exactly would the basketball program do with more money? The program is not only self sufficient but generates a profit. The football program is not only self sufficient but generates a much larger profit than the basketball program. These two programs support all the other sports programs at KU and if you eliminate football you would have also do away with most of the other programs since none is even self sufficient let alone produce a profit.
This a new experience...the week after KU wins 31-7 and KSU loses 31-10...I like it...:smile_cat:
4 interceptions and 2 fumbles recovered by KU. CMU offense is pretty bad and KU took advantage of all mistakes.
31-7 with 4 minutes to play...the road losing streak is over. Pooka is the real thing and Dineen is a stud.
Mississippi State spanks KSU 31-10, Oklahoma destroying UCLA 49 21
Looks like all the basketball games and Late Night will be on on KMCI 38 while Spectrum does replays...

I guess Chanel 38 in KC broadcasts only the home games? Not getting ESPN+, might get the trial 7 day during the basketball season if there is a preseason game not carried on Chanel 38. Following the game on ESPN gamecast.
9-7 seems about right based on what I have seen so far..
Last season KU did not have the depth to play up tempo. Graham was needed to play close to 38 mpg, Svi said that he would like to play about 28 mpg and averaged about 35, Newman averaged about 32 mpg and in the important games their playing time was even higher. If KU went up tempo they could not have played that many minutes. Even then, the team averaged 81.4 ppg and there is no question this is better and much deeper team so 85 ppg seems realistic; keep in mind that OU averaged 84.9 ppg last season and this KU team is much better.
If you read the interviews with team players throughout the summer, all indicated that Moore is a much improved shooter and currently not only the the team's best 3 point shooter bu also the fastest and at time unguardable. I see him averaging 20+ mpg, at least until Dotson get acclimated to college ball.
Prosecution cost: $28M, sentence: 14 days. Government spent $2M for every day he will spend in jail...of course its is just tax payers money so who cares...
PS Last sentence was sarcasm.
Don't count Mitch out. He bulked up big time in the off-season and his already good outside shooting is even better. Keep in mind that he was the best shot blocker for KU and his additional weight will allow him to match up with bigs better than he did before. He is now a stretch 4 that can draw his man out and open up the middle. So many options, so little play time.
I would really like the team to surprise me but, if it cannot beat Nicholls State at home, chances are it will not beat CMU on the road. I am afraid the streak will get one game longer. A marked OL improvement and the game is a toss up, if the same OL shows up then it is a 2 TD loss.
I can see several 90+ point games on the schedule and a season average of 85 ppg does not seem that far fetched. The good thing is that just about every player is capable of scoring, obviously some more than others, but it would not surprise me to see Dedric, Vick, Moore, Grimes and Doke have 25-30 point games. If a player is having a bad day, there is another ready to take over the slack. This team is as deep as last season's team was thin; at least 2 quality players at each position with most being able to play multiple positions.
Looks like your number are not that different than mine except you have Big Dave and Mitch not scoring at all. If you add just 3 points for Mitch and Big Dave combined then you are at 85 ppg.
I am just not seeing the 3 point shooting as being a weakness. Vick and Moore will be at or above 40%, Mitch has a good stroke from outside and so do the Lawsons. Grimes was hitting just fine from the international 3 point lane which is farther than college, Garret will be much improved (I predicted mid to upper 30s) and Dotson has the potential to be good as well. Also, when Doke is hitting over 70% from the inside, it is the equivalent of a 3 point shooter shooting 50%+.
I agree. How well the OL plays will dictate how the game develops.
I like that you prefaced your estimate with “conservative.”
According to various players interviews over the Summer and reports of practice games, Moore is currently considered the best 3 point shooter and Mitch has been shooting light out from the 3 as well and if he continues to do so, it would be difficult to keep a Big with a solid outside shot off the rotation.
I see the various combinations scoring as follows:
- Dotson - 6 ppg, Moore - 4 ppg - 15 ppg
- Grimes - 10 ppg, Garrett - 4 ppg - 18 ppg
- Vick - 9 ppg, KJ - 6 ppg - 15 ppg
- Dedric - 12 ppg, De Sousa - 4.5 ppg + Mitch - 20 ppg
- Doke - 12 ppg, Big Dave - 3.5 ppg - 16 ppg
Moore, Grimes, Dedric, Vick and Doke (when there is big mismatch) are all capable of having big games. I see KU as averaging mid 80s ppg. The offense will have no problem scoring; too many capable scorers to cover players having bad shooting days.
Those numbers are very misleading. The entire Department of Defense budget is around 600 billion so the 6.5 trillion figure does not seem right. If you scroll down it indicates that the mentioned figure for the Department of Defense and Housing and Urban Development are from 1998 to 2015. To put it in perspective, the entire Federal Budget is just over 4 trillion.
I was referring to the Department of Defense only.
R.J. Hampton will be visiting KU ↗ for late night. He will also be going to Memphis and Kentucky.

The report indicates that for fiscal year 2015 the Army failed to provide adequate support for $6.5 trillion in journal voucher adjustments.
So, only 6.5 trillion are not properly documented.

@JayHawkFanToo 7 tv's?
8 actually. 4 bedrooms, Living room, kitchen, office and pool room.
After looking at all the available options, I decided to install an external antenna that I feed to 7 TV sets through the house coaxial wiring and brings close to 50 stations. I also subscribed to YouTube TV which carries all the ESPNs and , Fox Sports channels, the NBA and MLB streams and a number of other sports channels including soccer, tennis, golf and Olympic sports as well as many cable only channels. It also carries the local station for all 4 major networks and I can use my account anywhere in the world as long a I have Internet access. The price is pretty good and allows 3 simultaneous streams; I use Roku sticks to get the wireless signal from the house system. I am considering using a T-Mobile dedicated hot spot box to further cut the cost of Internet.
Al in all a pretty decent solution at about half the cost of my previous cable set up.
In the old days I used to build my computers from scratch as it was much cheaper to do it this way. Once the big companies started mass producing overseas, it was cheaper to buy them assembled. Replacing a video card is pretty straight forward hardware wise and you just need to install the new drivers software wise.
Most Android cellphones and TV set less that 3-4 years old have mirroring capabilities and it is pretty straight forward. If you don't have a smart TV, you can get a Roku stick or Chrome-cast that will make your older TV set smart. You can also mirror from iPhones or iPads but it tends to be a little ore complicated since Apple always does its best to not be compatible with anything non-Apple.
BTW, I have seen that video before but there are simpler and reasonably priced options that will do a better job.

Military strategists have a rich, varied and occasionally bloody terrestrial history of trying to grab strategically expedient water resources. It’s hard to forget this once I saw the Pont du Gard aqueduct.
Nothing conspiratorial or Sci-fi fantasy here.
In fact, it would appear quite a historical anomaly were TPTB today to refrain from their predecessors 2000 year old water habit, I am sure you would agree.
And that misaccounted for $20-30 Trillion needs to be explained SOME HOW. RIGHT? 😀
As long as we are talking ~~science~~ fiction, can you please cite where you get that 20-30 trillion unaccounted funds by the Pentagon figure? 6.5 trillion seems to the accepted number.
Why would we go to a planet that is 1 billion miles away (7 years of travel) and is deemed to be completely inhospitable to humans to get water? Does not seem like an strategically expedient water resource.
Maybe we should explore getting water from Uranus instead?

@JayHawkFanToo Do you have any sense of humor?
Only on the last day of February on leap years. I guess you have missed the  :smile_cat: emojis I often post?
Perhaps I fail to see the humor of a police officer using a gun instead of a taser and nearly killing a man. The greatest fear police officers have is having to fire their service weapon in a split second decision that has life changing consequences, not only for the target but for the police officer as well even when the shooting is fully justified.

The link you posted is not working but I believe I indicated it was Kansas City, Missouri and included areas in the inner city. I am not sure how a Lawrence police officer fits into the narrative.
Here is another perspective ↗ on Kaepernick’s performance which does agree with yours.
Any time a players is mentioned as a lock somewhere I always think of Deandre Ayton who according to the crystal ball prediction was 100% for KU...well...until he wasn't.
You need to be more open minded and consider that maybe Kaepernick is no longer starting QB material. Stating as a fact that his protest was the only reason he was not picked up is being very closed minded.
As I wrote above, Kaepernick not playing is because a combination of reasons including but not limited to being past his prime, wanting to get paid elite QB wages when most teams consider him a backup, not wanting to be a backup only a starter and yes...being really bad for business because of his insistence on protesting on company's time, something no one is entitled to and something that fans do not want to see and thus negatively affecting the bottom line.
Here is an interesting read ↗ on the most critical play of the game with detailed analysis and comments from Coach Beaty.
What real sacrifice did he make? The kneeling did not start until after he was benched. He thought that other teams would be making offers but they did not materialize and it was not due to collusion. After the process was in motion, ESPN interviewed a big name QB (his name escapes me just now) that was doing commentary and he indicated the two primary football reasons why he was not offered a contract, the first is because his skills were no longer those of a starting QB for a top half team and the money he wanted was that of an elite QB. The second and perhaps the more important was that Kaepernick requires a specific type of offense that most teams do not run and teams want a back up QB that can step in with the team's offense as run by the starting QB and not having to revamp the offense to fit his style of play in the middle of a game or season; in any case, he refused to be a backup which made everything else moot. The third reason is that he was and is still toxic from a business perspective and football teams are for profit businesses and owners do not like to lose fans and by extension revenue.
Keep in mind that even then he had 3 legitimate chances to get a contract and he sabotaged all 3 of them. Baltimore was going to offer him a contract but his girlfriend posted on Twitter something that absolutely killed the deal; he could have distanced himself from it but he chose not to do it. Miami was ready to offer him a contract but he chose to make a statement about how great Castro was knowing that it offended the large Cuban population in South Florida and once again killed the deal. Seattle also talked to him and all they asked was that he keep his political activism off the field like employees everywhere are required to do but he chose not to do it. I cannot imagine an owner in his right business mind hiring him under those conditions.
By the way, he is nothing but a hypocrite. He complains about Police abuse and yet he praises Castro who ran one for the more repressive and totalitarian regimes in history and killed more Cubans, solely because they opposed his regime, than police has killed minorities in this country (which is 30 times larger) while enforcing the law with the great majority (not all) being while following standard protocol. I am not saying that there are not bad police officers, of course there are, but there are also bad engineers and bad lawyers and bad doctors and let's not forget bad priest too. No profession is perfect and most cops do a good job under very difficult conditions.
If you have a chance, do a "ride along" with a police officer, many Police Departments have programs to do just this. I did one with a friend that was police office in the KCMO area and include some inner city neighborhoods and it was not even a busy weekend night and I acquired a completely different view of what they do, the abuse they take and a new appreciation for their service.
As they say...follow the money...
This article ↗ presents a very interesting and plausible perspective of the real reason behind Nike's campaign.
The professor needs to do his homework. As bad a the football team is and as good as the basketball team is, last time I checked the football team brings more revenue than the basketball team.
Remember that the older people are the ones with the disposable income to buy the high end gear. Regardless, even if two thirds of its base is sympathetic, can they really afford to write off the one third that is not? Even if 10 percent of the base stops buying Nike products, no amount of gear Kaepernick sells can make up for that.
As I said, I don’t own Nike gear so I don’t really count on their balance sheet; however, if Facebook is an indication, a fair number of my friends who spend a fair amount of money on sports gear indicated they will stop buying it.
How about this kid ↗, Isaac McBride?
The salient sentence in the article is...Talks between Kaepernick and the executive’s shoe company never materialized...
Sounds to me like a bunch of executives speculating over drinks and getting Nike to make what it could turn out to be a costly mistake.
Here is a better logo for their campaign...

KU was in the game until the last play and it really should have won this game. The safety and fumbled punt at the 5 yard line gift wrapped the game to KU but really poor play calling and costly mistakes gave the game right back. KU started with a poor game plan and the execution was not good, all this is on the coaching staff.
No way Adidas could have used him since he was all along and is still under contract with Nike and Nike just extended his contract through 2022.
The end of the OAD might be coming sooner than expected and the better players might no longer be available to play college ball so the recruiting game will change quite a bit with lower ranked players becoming hotter commodities.
