I believe the name is Barak Hussein Obama and no, Trump did not get him out of the White House, the Constitution of our country that prevented him from running for a third term did...not that he would have won a third term.

By the way, what is a fer'ner? I have seen "ferner" but I can't say I have seen that spelling before.

Why Big Lies Work in Propaganda • Jul 22, 2017 04:36 AM

@mayjay

I told myself that I would not get involved in politics in this forum but you make several points that are factually incorrect and skip over the facts.

First. your post indicates that Trump jr met with the Russians with the clear implication that it was Russian officials. Trump Jr met with a Russian lawyer, Natalia Veselnitskaya, and no one has shown that she has any ties to the Russian government, none . zero. zilch.

She was able to set up the meeting by indicating she had damaging information on Hillary Clinton that turned out not be true; her objective was to lobby for overturning the Magnitsky Act, a US law targeting Russians linked to the 2009 murder of Sergei Magnitsky, a Russian lawyer who was allegedly killed in prison. Trump Jr. is a neophyte when it comes to politics and thought it would be a good thing. It was not, and although foolish it was not illegal and the Krauthammer article you cited indicates this much.

Now, the Russian attorney in question was allowed in this country by the Obama administration, apparently with the blessing of then AG Loretta Lynch, and had close ties to it. When the US ambassador to Russia testified in congress, she sat in the front row and right behind the ambassador, a position hat is reserved for guest of the individual testifying. As it turn out, Natalia Veselnitskaya has ties to Fusion GPS, the group that is responsible the infamous and discredited "Trump dossier." This group has also done work for the Democratic Party and thus it looks like a setup that Trump Jr. did not see coming. Her ties are not to the Russians but to the Democratic Party.

This is the equivalent of an individual with ties to the UK program calling the KU Athletic Department and offering information on how Calipari is getting all the recruits illegally and at the meeting indicating that the real objective is to have Coach Self endorse a product he is peddling.

Now, there is zero evidence that the Russians "hacked" the election or that a single vote was changed. There is plenty of evidence that the Russians "meddled" in elections going back several years as far back as 2014 and that the government was aware of that...you know, the Obama administration...and did absolutely nothing. If you have an issue with the Russians getting involved in American politics, the blame falls squarely in the Obama administration; Trump had no authority to do anything about it because at the time he was just a plain citizen like the rest of us, the Obama administration should have acted years ago and chose not to, mostly because it thought there was no way Hillary Clinton could lose the elections...I guess they underestimated the incompetence of her campaign.

Let's talk about James Comey. According to his own testimony he held private meeting with President Trump which by its own nature would be considered confidential. On FBI's time, at his FBI office using a FBI computer he wrote his version of the meetings which he then he proceeded to leak to a friend with the stated purpose of getting a special prosecutor appointed.

According to the FBI, those memos are property of the FBI and Comey had no authority to take them outside the FBI and leak them considering that some contain classified information. According to people familiar with the case, his actions involve multiple serious violation of the law...where is the outrage? Instead he got a huge book deal.

Now, he did accomplish what he set out to do, the appointment of a special prosecutor, Robert Mueller, the former FBI director who happens to be Comey's mentor and who proceeded to appoint several attorneys, all big time donors to the Democratic Party...talk about a set up and a stacked deck.

Enough for one post.

The main topics would be weakly Jayhawk blog and then you post whatever you have for the week including links.

If I remember correctly, at one time a number of headers with links were posted at the top but they eventually went away.

I would love to see a weekly post that goes over all the event of the week and posts links that would be of interest to Jayhawk fans.

@Kcmatt7

No disrespect intended but you really do not seem to know what NASA does.

Yes, the Space Program is the most visible part of NASA but it also does extensive research on many other area including aeronautics, materials, health and medicine, biology, electronics, environment, climate, weather prediction, computer technology, software development just to name a few.

The space program at NASA has contributed to the development of a huge number of consumer technologies that have had an incredible impact on society, from simple things such as Velcro and Teflon to cochlear implants and MRI scans. All the new, faster, more efficient airplanes now being produced by firms such as Boeing, use technology developed by NASA. The Dryden Facility (now called the Neil Armstrong) at Edwards AFB in California is one incredible facility where some of the most advanced research in aeronautics is carried out. The Vertical Motion Simulator in Sunnyvale, California is the most advanced simulator in the world and used to simulate all types of transport from school buses to helicopters, fighter planes and the space shuttle. It is booked years in advance by firms from all over the world.

The problem with NASA is that it has now become bloated. I have done extensive work with NASA on the Space Shuttle program over the last 30 years and I have talked top the people that were there from its inception.

One time I asked one the older Managers if we could get back to the moon and his answer was probably not, when I asked why not, his answer was...when NASA was created, it was run by engineers that made all the technical decision and there was a direct link between the hands-on engineers and top technical management. Then, what is now called "middle management" was created as way for politician to give cushy jobs away; this level of management does not produce anything other than paperwork and many layers of insulation between the hands on engineers and the decision making upper management, by people with zero technical background, and as a result, what little gets done takes considerably more time than it should. If NASA could shed these multiple layers of bureaucracy and get back to the way it used to be run, we could not only go back to the moon but also to Mars.

@Texas-Hawk-10

Garret is tall for a PG but so was Magic and it worked out well for him. Keep in mind that Garret was POY in Texas while playing PG; he is a much better PG than he is given credit although I agree that he might be better suited as SG or even SF.

Also, Center and PF are now merging into one position and I really don't have a problem having one or two PFs down low instead of the so called Center...it is just semantics.

Bagley for Whitman • Jul 20, 2017 03:13 PM

Hard to tell why a player like Whitman would leave.

Realistically, his chance of playing at the next level are extremely limited at best, so, one would think he came to KU with the idea of being a role payer at best and collecting a ring or two in his one year, the othre option being playing a much bigger role at a smaller program such a mid-major. Thinking that he would start of play substantial minutes at KU seems unrealistic.

Maybe he has come to terms with his limitations and has decided that investing his one year getting a degree at a higher level academic school better serves his future and I can understand this. If he has no future in pro ball getting a degree from, say an Ivy League school, compared to one from KU would be a no brainer. Where he lands will probably be a good indicator why he left.

Mario Chalmer in negotiations with the Grizzlies ↗ which would make 3 former KU players in that team...and my new favorite NBA team.😁

Putting pressure on the current Jayhawks • Jul 18, 2017 03:18 AM

@Texas-Hawk-10

Difficult to compare defensive number between the '08 and other teams. Remember that the shot clock is now 30 seconds and the rules have been changed to favor the offensive player and consequently scoring has gone up.

Putting pressure on the current Jayhawks • Jul 18, 2017 03:10 AM

@Kcmatt7

Having NBA talent and making it to the NBA can be quite different. The '08 team had only 4 players that played in the NBA. Chalmers is probably the more successful and Rush had his moments but Aldrich and Arthur have been only role players. RussRob and Collins did not make it past the Summer League. Darnell played short stints but no permanent contract; Kaun went to Russia and ended up in Cleveland for one last uneventful season.

The current team has the potential of having more players make it to the show. Time will tell.

@bskeet

In all fairness and to the best of my knowledge I don't believe Collison has expressed a desire to coach so it is hard to include him in talks about potential coaches. Just sayin'...

We Need a Title • Jul 18, 2017 02:36 AM

@wissox

I am curious, how exactly is the conference supposed to prepare us? Every team except Texas was ranked in the top 70 last season and the conference consistently had 5-6 teams in the to
30; no other conference has that type of rankings. KU plays a couple of tournaments with Elite teams plus the Big 2-SEC challenge where it is normally paired against the top SEC team and home and home with a few other quality programs and its SOS is normally in the to 10. I am not sure what else KU could do; you have to consider that most top programs do not want to schedule KU and prefer to schedule weaker competition and easier wins.

If you look at consistency The ACC has UNC, Duke, Louisville and a ccouple of other teams that vary from year to year and after that it drop quite a bit, the Big Ten has 2-3 decent team every year with Wisconsin and maybe MSU being the only consistently good team and a bunch of up and down also runs, the Big East has Villanova and at times Butler and Creighton and not much else, the SEC has UK, Florida and that is pretty much it, the PAC ten has Arizona, Oregon and UCLA and then if drops.

The computer systems look at all the variables including SOS, record agains other conferences and individual rankings for all teams objectively and consistently rank the Big 12 as the top conference. I know the MSM ignores the Big 12 and hype the ACC but the cold numbers tell a different story. You don't have to believe me, look at the conference rankings generated by KenPom, Sagarin, Massey and others for the last few years and see where they rank the Big 12.

End of easy 1 seeds for KU??? • Jul 15, 2017 02:20 AM

I don't believe it will affect KU much, in fact it might help. Most Big 12 teams are ranked in the top 75 and any conference win will now be even more valuable.

KU usually has a high SOS and many of the non-con games are home and home anyway.

Tarik • Jul 15, 2017 02:06 AM

Congrats Tarik. One year at a time he is moving in the right direction.

Not just a great college and pro player but a class individual as well. I would love for him to join the KU program as an assistant coach; he has mentored many players in recent years so he has a head start. It would not surprise me if he ends up as an assistant in the NBA.

Should we get back to KU basketball?

We Need a Title • Jul 14, 2017 03:28 PM

@elpoyo

The Big 12 has been ranked as the top or top 2 league for the last several years by just about all ranking systems and it is better, top to bottom, than other leagues such as the ACC which is top heavy.

Do your homework before you post incorrect information. Just because the Big 12 is not recognized by the MSM it does not mean is not at or near the top.

Putting pressure on the current Jayhawks • Jul 14, 2017 03:23 PM

@DoubleDD

RussRob was a high scorer in HS but he was asked to take on a different role at KU and this is why he almost left the program. It is possible that not being a scorer hurt his chances in the NBA. On the other hand, without him playing the role he did KU does not win in 2008.

Thurs Summer League playoffs schedule • Jul 14, 2017 03:17 PM

@mayjay

If I understand correctly, only rookies, second year players and unsigned free agents are allowed to play in the Summer Leagues. For third year player to play in the League, he and the player's union would have to approve it and it does not happen very often since veterans consider playing in the Summer Leagues to be embarrassing.

Unlikely to happen. The highest season % in colleges is 56% and that happened only once, the second highest is just over 53% which is also the highest season % ever in the NBA. Statistically speaking, each additional % point is considerably more difficult and getting to 60% is highly unlikely. Is it possible? Of course, any thing is possible. Is it probable? No.

I believe the correct wording should be: *First round picks can sign for as much as 120% and as little as 80% of the rookie scale.

@HighEliteMajor

First chicken, now butt-hurt, you seem to be the only one using those words...and yet you call other posters for...shall we say rude posts?

You can spin it anyway you like, but your argument is all about emotions not logic. I would think Coach Self, the AD and school Chancellor know more about what is best for
KU than all of us in this forum and if they have determine that playing MU is not in the best interest of the program why should we continue to argue?

Regardless of the reason, the great majority of KU fans do not want to play MU, this is a cold fact, not emotion.

HighEliteMajor said:

@JayHawkFanToo Self-serving, in large part, is acting on what you "want." That's emotions. That is not logic. You said most fans don't "want" to play MU. The "why" they don't want to play is an emotional reaction.

I believe you have it backwards. The ones that do not want KU to play MU are doing for logical reasons, i.e. there is no upside for KU and all the benefit goes to MU. Financially? No, KU does much better playing at AFH. Prestige? No, KU can get much better opponents starting with in-State Wichita State. Competition? The MU program has been a dumpster fire that has not won on the Road in the SEC definitely a downgrade and this is why they have not been paired in the Big 12-SEC Challenge. All pretty logical reasons not to play them.

Your argument that we enjoyed the game, the hatred and the long rivalry...well, that is pure emotion, not logic.

See? You have it backwards.😂

HighEliteMajor said:

@JayhawkFanToo Disengenous is exercising strained, self-serving logic. Look in the mirror.

Why is it self-serving logic? Who benefits more from a KU-MU game? MU does, certainly not KU. How exactly does KU benefit from playing MU? KU can make considerably more money keeping the non-conference games at AFH, even more than playing at the Sprint Center ($600K+at AFH, $100K+ at the Sprint Center. $0K at MU) MU would sell out its arena which is considerably more than the crowds they have had lately. KU sells out every game at AFH regardless of opponent.

2,000 fans for Xavier, 1,000 for Davidson, 400...yes, 400 for Tulane. Their biggest current rivalry game versus Illinois only got 12,409 fans and Kentucky drew only 11,574 to their 15,000 + seat arena. Embarrassing.

Call it what you want but the great majority of KU fans do not want to play MU because, according to the logic you call self-serving, they see no real benefit playing MU.

@HighEliteMajor

This has been discussed at nauseum and as many have pointed out, these are different situations; trying to equate them is disingenuous.

FBI's chance(%) of winning for KU Football • Jul 12, 2017 03:27 AM

@Kcmatt7

I believe the Ohio game will give the best indication of how the rest of the schedule will unfold...assuming they win the first two games, of course.

@HighEliteMajor

KU does not have to do what is best for Missouri, KU has to do what is best for KU - seems like pretty solid logic to me and the great majority of KU fans.

@HighEliteMajor

Look at the roster of the Warriors, arguably the best NBA team in the last 10 years and it lists 2 centers (McGee and Pachulia) that average a combined 23.4 mpg which is less than half the time for the position. The 2 listed PFs (Green and West) average just over 48 mpg. No question that the NBA is moving away from the center and using PFs instead. Naturally, HS and college players are moving away from the position and calling themselves PFs and the net result is a shortage of the so called centers...less players available translates to a smaller chance of getting one but with the smaller lineups the lesser need for centers.

As far as PG, I don't seem to recall Coach Self having a freshman as the starting PG, so naturally, top PG prospects with OAD aspiration will gravitate towards program where freshmen start, like Kentucky. So it is not really a big surprise that OAD PGs would go somewhere else.

So much for the embargo.

NBA Summer League • Jul 11, 2017 07:30 AM

BIFM put on a show against the Lakers. Jackson had a nice bounce back game as well.

I would not worry about the Center position, it is dissapearing in the NBA and all the quality bigs with hopes of making it to the League now call themselves PFs or better yet, stretch PFs. College BBall follows the NBA trends.

Look at this 2018 recruiting ranking, ↗ 2 out of the top 50 are listed as centers...even 7'1" Bol Bol is listed as PF.

Ellis first game was forgettable but he more than made up for it with a very good second game. Mason is not scoring like I had hoped he would but his +/- is very good which would roughly translate to good team/game management when he is in.

Jackson is about where I thought he would be and Selden is having an excellent Summer League run.
