@tundrahok
Here is what I remember from the 70's as a track athlete. Maybe we gave a sample before the season, but I do remember fining a sample for the big 8 championships.
Probably the best thing that got me through it was we had moved 1500 miles away and I was focused on great things my kids were doing at the time. Good thing I left the company, town and got away from it.
@Blown
You are correct. There are good and bad, so when I write Sleeze- ball agent, it is specific to the bottom dwellers of the agents, not all of them.
Same with lawyers, etc.
I had a really bad situation with a finance person I was in a partnership
with in a biz deal. We were partners for years-but this crook cooked the books. I swear if I wasn't a church going man,,,,the revenge I wanted and didn't act on-_-
You have.my interest. Now I will look into the guy and see what motivates him-no doubt he has is favorites.
Love the way they played to the end, I just get tired of us NOT boxing out and giving teams second chance shots. ONE player putting a body on OU and we win it at the end.
TROB. I believe in you, and I believe you can have a good career in the NBA. Hang in there and RCJH.
That's okay. We have more than enough haters in Kansas and Missouri to make up for the rest of the country.
Here is a fact. We've all seen phantom fouls, players getting hammered with no calls, walks that aren't called etc, and yes ku gets them called both ways.
Sometimes these refs determine the outcome at the end of a game.
I'm not saying this story has legs- I just know I see calls in games that are so bad it makes you wonder if the refs want a team to win/lose.
He mentions big companies/organizations have corrupt individuals in them. What makes us think we can't have a few bad apples.
Thanks for posting that-I love his mindset.
If he has a luck category my bet is that is he put it there so he could fudge the final outcome.
@Crimsonorblue22
Yes I just read it. They REALLY got hammered. And coach B- out NINE games next year.
WOW!!!
I like the "option" of skipping the Big 12 tourney. We could cite injuries and focus on the big dance. But it won't happen.
I think we are all on the same page here. Some of these agents are sleaze-balls of the worst kind. I would think the NBA & NFL commissioners could put in a death penalty clause-that any agent caught talking/giving goodies to an athlete or his family while they are playing for a school will no longer be able to represent ANY athlete with the NBA or NFL.
@Crimsonorblue22
The report I heard said was alive, conscious and had numerous cuts to the face which,would be expected in an antique plane-think about our cars made in the 50's pre airbag-padded dash and no collapse steering wheel. The landing gear was fixed so he could not retract it for a skid. If you look at the ground it gave way and stopped the plane in a few yards.
Maybe,you have better info-this is what I heard in Texas.
He successfully crash landed an antique plane today-the THIRD crash landing he has survived due to equipment failure. This guy has Chuck Yeager like skills and an angel on his shoulder.
Ouch
@wissoxfan83
I guess I was having a bromance moment. ugh.
@wissoxfan83
Yeah, I went a bit over the top on that. I guess I just like Danny a lot better. How about I back off and say, Danny #1. Turgeon 2?
I love him too. So much want him to have a great career in the NBA. Go TROB.
The Big 12 bball tourney is KU's annual gift to KC at large as well as $$$ for the coffers of the rest of the conference. (Spoken like a true KU Homer I know.)
Its been a mixed bag for me this year. I've never seen SO many KU games during the regular season before. And for my money I've never seen us win so many playing poorly so often. I guess I need to be less critical and applause a team that finds a way to win when things aren't going well.
Let me elaborate. My thought process is thinking years in the future, not a next year scenario.
Turgeon did a good job at a mid major-WSU getting.one championship followed by a big let down. He did okay at A&M and is finally making noise at Maryland this year. I agree he has a lot more ncaa head coaching experience.
For one thing Danny delivered a KU National Championship. He followed that with many years in the NBA on bad knees. He has coached at KU many years of championships including a National Title, albeit in an asst. role. I have to think he has learned a ton from Self working with him for years.
Mostly it's my gut-and the demeanor I see on the bench. I think this 6'10" guy with his record trumps a 5'10" guy in this game-even on the sideline. JMHO.
And my guess is there are plenty here who would want Turgeon instead.
Good for Mark, he has had some struggles. Still I vote for Self.
And I will make another statement. When ever Self leaves I would take Danny Manning over Turgeon 10 out of 10 times.
@Lulufulu
I may be way off, but I think Bill Self wants to win another ncaa title at KU at a minimum. I think that's how a winner like him thinks. Even if he is tempted to try the NBA I think he wants a repeat ncaa title under his belt.
And I will go a step further to say only the NBA could tempt him to leave KU. Now if things go sour here ( and I doubt that) maybe he goes to okie state.
I love it when a kid that rides the bench gets some playing time and shines. So here's to you Hunter-you came through when we needed you.
Another stink up the rafters half of bBall. This time AT home-and senior night too beat. I thought they'd be able to cut down the nets tonight. I am in DVR mode now.
If we don't pull our head out, I don't see how we have a snowball's chance i n h*ll of beating OU on the road.
Ok my bad. Wore K club ring today for the guys in the office. I very rarely put it on. I just realized I still had it on. Took it off-ku run should start in 3' 2, 1...
@Crimsonorblue22
Thanks for posting that. I just read that in the star and loved Self's quote..
I was fortunate to be on championship teams -they are hard to come by and very special.
We as KU bBall fans can take it for granted. I for one marvel at this streak.
Watched the game- got nervous. But they won!
@REHawk
Thank you ISU. and the Mayor for the comeback. RCJH.
@truehawk93
Two fingers After the shot and they bail him out? Me thinks they don't want ISU to come back and keep everyone in the hunt to sell more TV games as they keep many teams in the hunt.
I would take that in a heartbeat.
@drgnslayr
Alas, I remember one day shooting around with my kids-maybe 2,003, I tried numerous times and could NOT touch the rim. That was a day I never saw coming. And I am probably at phone book status myself these days.
The NCAA guidelines education process go way further back than most know about. When my daughter plays in these tourneys all the athletes are required to watch a film from the NCAA before they play. It might have even started before she got to high school
@drgnslayr
Other than fundamentals, I seldom see an offensive team crashing the boards. I know they need one to hang back with the shooter to prevent a run out, but I see a lot of players on all teams flat footed. When an offensive player does crash the boards it often ends in a dunk and game highlight. I guess they end up taking a play off figuring a team mate will go get the ball-and then neither does.
@Kip_McSmithers
He wanted 300k. They settled out of court. Neither side disclosed the amount.
If you are interested -here is a lengthy bit on Lloyd Lake. I didn't know this guy had a criminal record. According to this he became friends with them while Reggie was in high school.
http://usatoday30.usatoday.com/sports/college/football/2008-01-17-reggiebush-book_N.htm ↗
@Kip_McSmithers
I was living in SoCal at the time. The papers said Reggie Bush was driving a nice car, and his parents had moved to a nice home in San Diego. All the while he was still playing for USC. The NCAA drug their feet so Reggie finished the season and played in a bowl game. The way I remember it the guy that handed out the goodies thought he had a lock on being Reggie's agent. When that didn't happen he took them to court to recover $$$.
I also wish the. Best for anyone on the bench be it Hunter, Lucas, Svi.
I wish the all get decent playing time most games.
I thought Penders was shown the door, but there is something on WIKI which mentions a buyout, him suspending Luke Axtell. Later. Luke Axtell transfers to KU.
If everything fell into place, KU could beat any of them in a perfect storm-of course they will only have to play three of them in this tourney.
But as good as Perry has been playing as of late, I think our. Inconsistency will catch up with us the second round.
I would LOVE to be proved wrong, especially since I live in Houston and plan to get tickets if they make it here.
@DanR
As. For the west coast, I will add my two cents since I've lived in LA three times. If memory serves there are more people in the LA region than the rest of the state. I am only stating that to help folks with the mindset.
The weathermen are usually comedians because the weather seldom changes from pleasant to perfect and I REALLY mean that the climate is that great.
Since weather isn't a subject, they have that much more time to talk celebrities and Hollywood talk and they are way over the top obsessed with this cr*p.
With Ocean, mountains, Hollywood, pro and college football, bBall, baseball, Yada Yada Yada, there is always something else to be doing like going to a race track, the beach, etc., etc. etc.
As I said I lived there 3times. Once in a real neighborhood I absolutely loved. And the other times around the biggest bunch of &$*#%}£ I ever met.
And you are right-prior to the internet it was near impossible to get much info on NCAA ball. PAC 10 was in the papers with little else.
I left in 2007, but I suspect things haven't chaged- although if memory serves there is some 8,000 KU active alums in LA.
@BeddieKU23
ABSOLUTELY -I will be a huge ISU fan when they play OU tonight.
@Blown
Fair enough. I didn't know the east coast dominance was that lopsided-I guess I went into denial mode.
@Blown
Wow- that is a hell of a stat. But then again it doesn't include the Wooden streak.
Agreed. As I say, living here in the Football state. There are nearly 1,000 texans for every Kansan as well, Even so they rarely sell out the Drum. Mostly it is KU games. I would bet money that there is a ton more Kansan's with higher bBall IQ than Texans.
I may be repeating an earlier post, but twice they showed a replay where Bilas said the call was wrong. Both times the replay showed the opposite-I wonder if he was looking at a different camera shot than what we saw on TV.
@SoftballDad2011
Welcome aboard. I really don't have a good answer for you but I'm interested in what others have to say about it.
@Crimsonorblue22
Barnes won it last year and three times previous. I'm sure there is frustration at UT, but on the other hand he's done more than most at UT including Penders his predecessor.
Barnes has a final four appearance. The only other two times Texas shows credit for that was in the 40's.
He has won or tied b12 championship three times.
He has come in 2nd 5 times including ties.
He has made the dance all but one year.
Not a bad record, especially when he has to deal with KU every year.
Texas is a football state. Basketball is a distant second, and I'd say baseball gets as much or more attention at some schools.
