Is this a budding Charlie Moore fanboy bromance? Why don't you two get a room? LOL. Seriously, Charlie has played his ass off, and looks like the player I thought he would when he was with us. I also know a crappy game is in him because I've seen the 35 foot clankers with my own two eyes. So, I hope he doesn't play well, but what I say will have absolutely no bearing on how he plays.
@mayjay said in "WHEN HE'S ON THE COURT, IT'S DIFFERENT":
@Jethro You underestimate Charlie Moore. All-ACC defensive team, and Honorable Mention All-ACC. 9 assists on Friday to 3 TOs, and actually (at 5' 11") averaging more rebounds (2.7) than TOs (2.1) this season. Everyone other than our disdainful fanbase takes him a lot more seriously.
I wish I had a roll my eyes emoji...lol.
Call it a hunch...a feeling...but I think we're going to shoot better today:

Quite a few fans are calling for Remy to start and get 35 minutes against Miami. We know that isn't going to happen, but Remy deserves it. Also, lots of fans and writers are talking about Waardenburg and that KU has no answer for his 3s. First, Waardenburg only averages 9 points a game for the season. He does shoot 3s at 42%, so I hope KU defenders at least try to guard him. Waardenburg only took 9 shots in 35 minutes last game and 7 were 3s.
6'5" Sr. McGusty is on a hot streak scoring 27 against IState. McGusty averages 18 points a game and hits 36% from 3.
One thing to note, Miami had 0 bench points last game. Only 3 bench players were in the game for a total of 17 minutes and only took 4 shots. Their starting 5 is who KU worries about. Yes, there will be a lot of attention by the media on Charlie. I sure hope Charlie stays the Charlie we know and doesn't become a hero today. Query: Will Ochai and/or Braun break out of their slumps and give us a chance today?
2 other factors that help us today. The first is we got to scout Miami fully. Because the Clones were their opponents, it meant the staff only had to scout one team, because they already have a book of info on the Clones. Secondly, I think good time Charlie gets overamped, and makes a bunch of mistakes. It's the perfect gulp moment for Charlie- clanking 30 footers, wild passes, drives to nowhere, etc. I think Och and Braun settle down and are the difference today- KU by 8.
This is Malik Newman all over again. Except Remy has way more charisma.
Sometimes, changes have to be made:

Ok...it's time for Remy to START. Let's get him 35+ minutes today...
The incredible part to me is how the ACC managed to get 3 Elite Eight teams. They must've run thousands of algorithms to set the initial matchups in order to accomplish this.

plain and simple if we play like this Sunday - -we will ge beat. just got to start shooting the ball better.
Oach has to get his act together, that's bad enough but when you have Oach Christan AND Dave playing like crap -we have to get this guys into the game. - -I say we play Miami
What do you think they'll do next game? I think they'll make it a point to have better games. I think they know that better than we do. I am not going to start doubting them anymore. They've made the Elite Eight- great chance we'll make it to the Final Four. Let's give this team their props.
Somebody's not happy about us taking their title away:
3 games down- 3 more to win.

What do you think about playing Charlie Moore if Miami wins?
I feel good about either one tbh. Canβt ask for a better draw.
I hope the Clones win. Don't want to play Miami.
does this mean we're Big East champions?
MIKE VERNON CAN SUCK IT!
SUCK IT, TUCKY!
ALL TIME WINS
Elite Eight, here we come!
make em all, remy
we're consistent with our inconsistence. i just wish this team could play a full complete game.
LOVE REMY
BEAUTIFUL!
our cheerleaders are cuter than theirs...

And we're here with you to ease the pain with an amazing KU victory tonight. This is just a delight to watch. RCJHGKU!
we knew in 2008 that we had a freaking monster team- we knew the whole year. this team has just started to gel. we might have the best team in the tournament, and it won't make 2 shits who we play...we'll beat them.
i'm telling you- we haven't seen this team's best game yet....
we're much better than them.
settle down, and beat them.
let's do this real quick. i normally am anxious, but i'm strangely calm tonight. we will win.

I don't do point spreads because I don't want to get back to my old degenerate self. I have Purdew, Kansas, UCLA, and the Clones advancing.
I would of picked UCLA as a matter of fact in my brackets I had UCLA - -BUT their stud is hurt bad ankle - -gonna try and go we shall see how effective he is
I saw this today: Friday, 9:39 p.m. | CBS, March Madness Live: The health of Jaime Jaquez seems like less of a question mark than it did a few days ago -- all indications are that he'll play -- which makes me feel comfortable laying the two points with the Bruins. Their skill and experience in the backcourt is a definitive advantage, and I expect Mick Cronin to have some sort of answer to slow Brady Manek, who is on an all-time tear this tournament. Pick: UCLA -2

Well, I end up 3-1, but I am bummed that Tech lost.
2-0 so far. Come on, Tech and Coogs.
I never thought Gonzaga was nearly as good as everyone thought. The Charmin Zags is a good moniker, @BShark .
I called it. I shoulda bet it.
i didn't have Gonzaga going past the S16 in any bracket I did.
Tiptoe Timmy...
@Kcmatt7 said in Sweet 16 Chat:
Does anyone get away with more travels than Timme?
Defenders should let Timmy make that spin, and meet him at the rim. Let him go and then block his shot.
I hope the Zags lose because I don't want to see Timmy any more.
I'm willing to go 0-4 just so the teams I want to win will win, and the teams I want to lose will lose. I'm calling for both the 1 seeds to get run tonight. I have:
Arkansas over Zaga
Houston over Az
TTU over Dook
Nova over Mich
I'm going with the Hawg's quickness to overwhelm Zaga
Houston will knock off AZ. No late BS ref call can save them against the Coogs.
TTU will spank Dook.
Nova is just too disciplined for Michigan. They win by 12.

As @Jethro writes, Stephen is pronounced Steven. I too am a leading authority on the subject. In the greek our name means crowned one. For the last 10 years or so of my teaching career I've had students who see my first name on ID's or whatever tell me or ask me if my name is steffen. I first of all say my first name is Mr. to you and if we were on a first name basis it'd be Stephen with the V sound. They then tell me I'm saying my own name wrong, even going so far as one kid telling me my parents spelled my name wrong. One school I was new in the secretary was not familiar with who I was and paged me over the intercom "Miss Gantz". I guess she thought I was a Stephanie?? LOL, fun name moments.
LOL.
@tis4tim said in Ochai Agbaji:
Many of you are basketball people with a much more vast repository of knowledge than I, so you all may know this story, but I would wager it's one of the more expensive name screw ups in history. I ran out of time to type it a bit earlier.
When Stephen Curry was being courted by the shoe companies years ago it was all but assumed he would be a Nike guy. He wore Nike throughout his entire career at Davidson and the first few years in the league. His godfather worked for Nike. So, when Nike came and pitched Stephen the executive kept pronouncing it Steph-ON instead of Steph-EN.
Stephen's Dad, Del, wasn't taken aback so much by that as he was that a correction never came. That was all it took for Stephen to sign with Under Armour, a HUGE financial boon for UA and a huge whiff on the part of Nike, which has cost them handsomely over the long haul. I suppose I should mention that, in addition to the name flub, one of the Powerpoint slides in the presentation still had Kevin Durant's name in the text.
I mean, Stephen was not the phenom he eventually would become at that point, but I simply don't know how errors like that are missed by those in the know. Being a copy writer in a former life I know I'm a bit more sensitive to language and to proof-reading (and don't get me started on people misusing apostrophes and turning a plural noun into a possessive) but how these things are allowed to slide at a professional level I'll never know.
Perhaps @BShark or @JAYHAWK214 or @FarmerJayhawk or @BeddieKU23 can comment on this if they would like, but I've heard that Bill Self has an almost photographic memory for names. Word is he can meet you and then run into you sometimes years later and still remember your name. That is a gift and I'm sure it has served him well over the years. I have put my kids into various leagues and activities over the years simply because those in charge took the time to learn their names after just a single visit.
Anyway, I don't mean to belabor the point, but names are so important as it's about the only thing each person truly owns. Taking the time to learn someone's name shows that you cared enough to do so, which can make a big impression as Nike found out.
Stephen is pronounced "Steven". I am a leading authority on this subject.
I watched the Nova at Providence game, and the Friars are not very good at defending. They had to go to zone because Nova was shredding them up. They definitely have some good scorers in Watson and Bynum. Nova doesn't run, which allowed the Friars to send bodies crashing for rebounds. They won't have that luxury with us. I think it will be a close game at half, and we pull away with a double digit win.
@drgnslayr said in NOT Remy?!:
Defense is our Achilles... That is never proven more than the Bluejay game. We could have shot better from the field but otherwise, we can't expect to do better. We dominated boards, we shot the lights out from the line, we had almost no TOs... we dominated possessions!
Teams like the Zags feast on teams like ours. Turning the game into a game where we try just to outscore our poor defense will not get it done versus the Zags.
Yes, I sound negative... but listen to Self. We need that gear we haven't hit yet. And though Remy brings us a big punch... the real secret weapon we have is that gear we need to reach. I don't think the Zags have the personnel to stop us from hitting that gear... it is all within our guys to find it. It means we play totally free from overthinking and we just go out there and run hard on both sides of the ball.
If this happens... we can win a National Championship, no problemo. And we will all be blessed with watching some of the all-time best Hawk ball ever to be played... and it comes from a group of guys not at the personal level of other teams we've had.
No matter what, I'm proud of these guys for achieving what they have... and I'm hopeful having a week to prepare and a healthy Remy, we find that gear Self is talking about. Wow!
RCJH!
I'm calling it - Arkansas beats Gonzaga.
Wow, look at the energy!
Dennis Gates of Cleveland State. 50-40 the last 3 years/ 1 NCAA appearance ( loss by 31 points).
@stoptheflop said in NOT Remy?!:
Who knows the real deal with Self and Remy? Besides the non-hug, I noticed that when Remy came out of the Creighton game at one point he walked by a standing Self and looked at him. Self ignored him and looked down court. It was a point where a coach should have said something encouraging, like "way to go." I don't get it. Maybe Self's slights are just meant to keep Remy more even-tempered, less exhuberate. ??????
Remy tried to hug him, and Bill was like "what the hell are you doing"? Remy did something awkward, and Bill had a normal reaction. I don't see many coaches hugging their players during the game, so I wouldn't classify that as "tension".
@wissox said in What Time Does KU Play Iowa?:
Provided we win Friday, I'm hopefully going Sunday. KU-Miami will provide the best chance for lower ticket prices. Not spending too much though, but I pay attention to these things and those tickets will be considerably cheaper than Friday.
Chicago went from the B!G party to the B12 party. Once Remy touches the ball, scream out "REMY" and we'll all know it is you.
Anybody seen anything about MethU hiring the Cleveland St coach? Dennis Gates. 1 tournament- 31 point loss. 50-40 the last 3 years.
