@mayjay Was it the Ruskies, or the CIA pretending they were the Ruskies????? Are we in jeopardy if we disseminate the information?
@Statmachine Is that secret information?
We will face the Shlockers 2nd round, then Virginia, then Louisville for the Regional championship. Guaranteed.
@drgnslayr Of course Dook will get the easiest path. Count on it. Pencil them in as the 4th seed in the West.
@Fightsongwriter Hot diggity dawg....now, lets add a national championship trophy to the pile.
@HawkChamp His right hand is swollen. He has been favoring it the last few games.
I think we should ignite a grassroots campaign to save Liberace. We could hastag it as #saveourbiotch.
@Fightsongwriter Bragg looked like Bragg last night.
I ran across this article concerning Marcus Garrett. The fact he has played in a very deliberate offensive system bodes well for his near term future at KU, imho:
Skyline was able to set the pace in a 33-29 victory against Klein Forest, and it paid off as the Raiders booked a trip to the UIL Class 6A state tournament at the Alamodome next week in San Antonio.
No. 3-ranked Skyline (34-1) and top-ranked and previously undefeated Klein Forest (34-1) entered Saturday's 6A Region II title game with conflicting styles.
During its 34-game unbeaten streak, Klein Forest ran teams out of the gym. The Golden Eagles push the pace, are up and running after a change of possession, and rarely does a possession last longer than 15 seconds without a shot. Entering Saturday, Klein Forest was averaging 64 points per game and the season-low scoring output was 57.
Skyline turns stalling into an art form. Each possession is slowly walked up the floor, and point guard Marcus Garrett conducts an offense where the Raiders work the ball upward of two minutes before taking a shot. It visibly frustrated Klein Forest, which had won 30 of its 34 games by double digits.
"The game plan was not to let them get up and down," Garrett said. "We knew if we went up and down with them they might beat us. So we knew we were going to slow it down, and that got to them."
It was most obvious in the game's final minute, when Skyline broke a 29-29 tie.
After forcing a turnover with 56.8 seconds remaining, Skyline held possession for 40 seconds before calling a timeout with 18 seconds remaining. After an inbounds pass to Garrett, who was double-teamed, Jase Townsend got open and scored the game-winning basket with 8.4 seconds left on the clock.
"I knew I had to make a play," Townsend said. "I hadn't been shooting well, so it was time to make a play."
Klein Forest panicked on the inbounds pass, turned the ball over, and Sammy Brooks added an insurance layup right before the buzzer.
Garrett finished with a game-high 13 points, and Townsend added 11 for Skyline. Cedrick Alley led Klein Forest with 12 points.

@approxinfinity Serena would jump over the net, and slap him.
@jaybate-1.0 You have to wait until the bracket comes out to prove your point. And prove your point you will ( forgive the Yoda sentence - I thot it sounded cool ). This group has collective amnesia every year.
@brooksmd He'll get beat up.
That bum almost knocked out a UNC player with his elbow. A thug attack. The ESPN announcers did their best to minimize the thug attack from the dirtiest player since Bill Laimbeer.
This team will want to win the Big 12 tournament. This team likes winning.
@chriz Just look at the way ESPN pimped Syracuse after they beat Dook. Every ESPN announcer declared Syracuse "in the tournament". The Orange have lost 4 out of their last 5, own a 17-13 record, and have a terrible record outside of the Carrier Dome....BUT...they're in. Sure enough, Lunardi has them as a 10 seed.
@JayHawkFanToo It reminds me of mlb, where you get a hitter utilizing a new skill, or a pitcher learning a new pitch that changes their results. Now, practically every sabermatician is going to project Moose Moustakas to hit 22 hrs this upcoming year. The past shows that would be a reasonable assessment. However, it won't show the major adjustment he made last year ( in a small sample size ) that portends a major Moose breakout. Moose is a late bloomer- watch for him to pass the 30 HR range easily this year.
I really think Frank is a late bloomer as well. Last year he was a good player, but he wasn't a game finisher. Frank this year is physically and mentally stronger than last year, and might be the most clutch player in America this year. He is due for more positive regression, simply due to his improved skills, and his increased confidence. No doubt he will show up better in the NCAA tournament than years past. I absolutely think he can hit over 50% from 3 in the tournament, even when teams try to key on him. You guard him close, and he's around you in a second- you lay off him, he buries you from deep. Most importantly, I think Frank has conquered the mental aspect of the game. In times past, he would shrink a bit in the spotlight, try to do too much, miss free throws..etc. This new Frank is the best player in basketball, and the NCAA tournament will prove it.
@wissox Darnell couldn't make a jump shot, so he drove every play.
@Crimsonorblue22 Do you remember Dave Kingman? Mark Reynolds? Chris Carter? Obrien is alot like them. Very low contact rates. Bodacious power. Morales doesn't have the same power, but he has a much better command of the strike zone. I think Morales breaks out in Toronto- easier park to knock 'em out. I'm projecting Morales hits more than last year, for sure.
I don't root for any conference teams unless it helps KU. I spend two months hoping Baylor loses every game, and now I'm supposed to root for them so i can brag to my buddies about the Big 12? No thanks.
Another shrewd move by the Royals, stealing O'Brien from the D Backs. Goodbye home run record, Mr. Balboni. This is the healthier version of Stanton. What a great move for you guys.
@wissox I think they meet this year.
@BShark It will be like Travis Ford without the toupee.
He will come back next year, and be the MVP of the league. Sending out well wishes for the kid- he deserves a healthy season.
@JayHawkFanToo I debated whether that could be included. But losing the rebound battle 37-35 is not a conclusive result, imo. You could certainly say their size bothered our shots...BUT, Tarik Black was our leading scorer, and our starting guards ( Wayne and Naadir ) were a combined 3 for 13 against a team that had no point guard.
I have terrible memories about Stoolwater. They have handed our heads to us on more than occasion.
@DoubleDD We've been beat time and time again over the years by great guard play in the tournament. The only time I can recall losing due to superior size would be the 2012 title game against kensucky. Our great advantage this year are our guards, which was our great advantage in 2008. So, the ingredients are there for a deep run.
We are a very tired team right now. It shows up in our shooting, our turnovers, overall sloppy play, and close game after close game. That's the product of running a 6.5 man rotation. For reference, look at Virginia going through the meat grinder, who lost 5 out of 6 before righting the ship somewhat. Look at Baylor running the gauntlet. WVU, too.
We are a distracted team right now- no less than 4 players have been in the news involving one immature act after another. Not your normal Bill Self team, to say the least. That is a brain drain, an unforced error, where one night of complete stupidity involves no less than 3 of our players. Then our other distraction comes up on Senior night, where at least 3 of our starters we know are playing their last game. For reference, look at kensucky's epic battle against Vanderbilt last night on their Senior night. Kensucky was down double digits. Heck, look at Nova's home loss to Butler.
Yet we have posters in here demanding that we essentially win every game by 20, that we lay everything out on the floor in a meaningless game against a last place team. When we don't, then we get post after post of critical commentary where the summation is always "if we play that way in the tournament, then we'll get our ass beat". And they are right. But they aren't accurate in their perspective in trying to equate a meaningless game versus a game where everything is on the line. Apples and oranges.
We're winning games normal teams would lose. We're winning games we would've lost last year. And here's the real kicker- we haven't played our best game yet. This team has such a fierce will to win, it is astonishing. I haven't seen that since ....2008. With some rest and focus, we will win the national championship this year.
@BeddieKU23 Hey, was Okie St playing a packline defense last night? It was hard for me to tell if they were playing man, a 2/3 zone, or a packline.
@BeddieKU23 Nice response. I did not know that.
@sfbahawk I know. I had him in my Draft KIngs team last night. I had a putrid night.
I could see them putting Virginia in our bracket instead of Florida. I am not privy to the NCAA bi-laws on facing a team from your conference, as the Wahoos facing UNC in the Sweet 16 of the South Region would seem too early ( although I could be wrong ). I thought two conference teams could only face each other in the Regional final. I am not afraid of Virginia in the least.
This guy is the Gold standard on brackets- considered the most accurate the past two years. With Florida St's loss to Dook last night, I could see UCLA and FSU flipping seeds in our bracket:

@BShark I have no desire to change your mind about you thinking we would be beat by the Shlockers. You said we were going to lose to Dook. You said we were going to lose to Kensucky. You said we were going to lose to Baylor. Not surprising you would look at Kenpom and think we aren't any good, and that the Shlockers would beat us. You have no faith in the team. Now this is not a personal indictment of you, merely a statement of fact.
@BShark No doubt they are a good team. They aren't on the same level as us, imho.
@mayjay I thought last year we were the best team in America, period. And we almost were. I believe we're the best team in America this year as well. If we close out the next 4 with wins, we'll be the number 1 overall seed 2 years running. I thought we caught a break getting Nova. Boy was I wrong.
@BShark Let me guess...you live in Wichita, right?
@mayjayI meant the South Region. How in the world the number 1 overall seed could be moved out of the Midwest into the South still defies explanation.
@BShark Wow, maybe Kensucky is good enough now where they would only lose to mighty Shlockers by 10 instead of 20....LOL...J/k no malice...
9 of Kenpom's top 16 teams were in the South Regional last year. I know...move on, nothing to see here.
@bskeet Our kryptonite is playing tight in the tourney, I hope we are loose as a goose. The enemy isn't who we play - the enemy is ourselves.
@dylans And Josh is gone, too...I LOVE this team...
@Crimsonorblue22 Yeah, that's a toughie...I'm going to miss Lando as well..
@cragarhawk sorry you're so wounded. maybe rub some dirt on it....
@cragarhawk i'll try to be more hysterical next time...my bad...
Is it safe to come back now?
@approxinfinity LMAO......
Coach Self seemed just as upset about the first half. You can tell he is really freaked out....oh, wait....
@HawkChamp we should be ahead by 40. this is a pretty meaningless game, imo.
not sure why everyone is freaking out. we'll win this game. we're distracted..it's senior night...everybody relax...
Dang it, why can't we play perfectly all the time? All is lost....all is lost...oh wait...
