@jayballer73 We don't know...so no point in any hyperconflagaration about what might woulda,coulda,shoulda happen. For myself, I'm just going to enjoy the amazing roster, and let the NCAA go pound sand.
@HighEliteMajor He used the word " toughness" to describe JW. That's worth 10 more minutes...
Dotson - 31
Ochai - 28
Moss- 22
Doke- 21
Garrett- 20
Silvio-20
JW -18
Big Dave-14
Enaruna-11
Mackey-7
Mitch- 6
I don't know if that adds up, but everyone else had a list, and I didn't want to be left out.
@jayballer73 It's like the weather...you can worry about it...you can cuss it...but it is still going to do what it's going to do...so why sweat it?
they're coming for us...omg...what's we gonna do????? the sky IS falling.....
@drgnslayr One of the more interesting comments Bill made about Jalen was saying he had “incredible toughness."Here's some pretty good write ups about him:

@BShark I started a wrong thread contagion...
-4 thru 8...tied for first...
-3, baby. Tied for 2nd in the US Open. Since I know nothing about the field, I always play him in DFS golf. Simply because he's a KU guy.
Team 1 : Dotson, Moss, Ochai, Silvio, Doke.
Team 2 : Marcus, McBride, JW, Mitch or Enaruna, Big Dave. Slip Braun in to the 2 or the 3 off the bench.
Both teams would make the NCAA tournament. 1 would be a 1 seed, the other would be a top 5 seed. It's too bad we couldn't have a JV team, and have them play Wichita St and Missourah.
@BeddieKU23 I was glad we didn't get Stanley. That's too much icing on the cake for my liking.
@BeddieKU23 I thought they got the 2 houses next door...
@FarmerJayhawk Billy was a OAD. Cliff was a OAD. Selby was a OAD. There was plenty of smoke around Billy before we took him. I remember BShark saying before Preston signed that there were rumors the kid was on the take. In fact, BShark even said no way would we take Preston. As I recall, there was whispers around Cliffie, too. I'm not saying that Silvio directly fits the narrative, but if his case causes us to pause before we go after the latest murky OAD, then so much the better.
@jayballer73 They aren't going to ban us from the NCAA tournament. They aren't going to limit our scholarships. They could take away victories and a Final Four, but that's a pretty meaningless penalty in my books. If this causes us to recruit the way we recruited this year ( except the RJ fiasco ), then maybe it turns out to be the light bulb moment where we regain our recruiting sanity. We made 2 EEs and a FF, in large part, because of two low rated guards ( Frank/Devonte ) that bought into the system, unpacked their bags, and dedicated themselves to KU.
The truth is, we haven't won dick with these OADs. All they've brought... for the most part... is trouble and dissension. And the teams that are using the OAD model aren't winning anything, either. Experience wins. The evidence is very clear- why else would the Squid, the king of the OAD, be working the grad transfer wire like a madman?
@BShark I sent you a message about my " big win" on FanDuel...lol. One of my friends couldn't believe I won that little for finishing first...lol. It was even less than I told you- I won 12.73 x2...lol.
If they go after what Kurt said about Zion, then they would have to go after Dook, and that’s not going to happen. In fact…to protect Dook’s money machine, NCAA honcho Wilcox made it a point to say they would NOT be considering KT's statement. This is what Wilcox said:
“Any wiretap that was introduced into evidence [we can use],” Wilcox said. “It wasn’t. That was leaked. We don’t have access to that.”
So, Louisville and Arizona are going to get rolled. They might try to take away our Final Four, but they might figure they already hammered Silvio for an entire year, and maybe that pound of flesh will be enough.
@BShark lol...
@HighEliteMajor And...we didn't have to recruit any of the one year "wonders"...
@KirkIsMyHinrich I'm glad it worked out the way it did. I want those guys at the scrimmage yesterday to go to battle with. And JW and Moss if they're willing to get into the trenches, and earn time as well. No prima donnas ... no unearned spots ... just 12 guys playing their ass off, giving it their all every day to get better and better. The lineups are practically endless - the raw talent is truly off the chain. Ochai could make a run at the NBA lottery the way he's looking. Enaruna, in time, is going to be a beast. We have the players to run a 4 out any time we want. Or we can pack the front line, and play the best muscle ball in the country. We're as tough as nails. Deep. Experienced. This is national championship caliber, folks.
@jayballer73 i was afraid if he didn't sign with us, you were not going to be very happy...glad it came thru ....
@jayballer73 THANK GOD. It's XMAS in JUNE...ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG< MAN...CONGRATS!!
@BShark Doke 7 for 8....
@wissox The Iowa coach is also daddy to a real mediocre player ( his son) who plays on the team. And the coach would pull Moss for his son ( who shoots 20% from 3 ) at the end of games. I don't blame him a bit for wanting to get out of that 3 ring circus.
This team looks deeeeeeeeep . Our 2nd string would be a top 25 team.
To me, Ochai looks like a monster in the video. Stronger, faster, playing with a killer mentality. Break out ahead...
Highlights from the scrimmage:
[
@Marco I hope you're right. I like him- he's confident w/o being cocky.
Here's a page with a bunch of video of today's scrimmage. check out Dok hitting a 17 footer!
@jayballer73 He was pulling your leg...lol. we got him...
@HighEliteMajor New Zealand or Australia?
He doesn't sit on the bench, whining and bitching about not playing. He gets recruited over constantly, and never says a word.
My opinion is Mackey has elite quickness, and will break ankles better than Devonte, Dotson or Frank. His step back jumper is a work of art. He will shoot as good as Devonte, but i don't think he is a natural driver like Frank or DD. Defense will probably be a challenge because he's not a big guy.
@KirkIsMyHinrich I was struck by the lack of awe he had. The dude has a real nice quiet confidence where he doesn't seem out of his element at all. Even if he only gets scrap minutes for a year or two, I feel like at some point, he will end up in the rotation in the future. Maybe never a starter, but a reliable shooter with good ball skills.
@BShark That says it all right there. I just couldn't figure out how a guy with his skills could get so few minutes. Farmer's post answered all of my questions right there.
@FarmerJayhawk Beautiful post. I think your post explains it all.
It's the perfect addition at the perfect time. I guarantee you Moss has never had a pg as good as DD to work with, nor has he had the caliber of big men that he will have once he steps out on the court. The experience he brings to the table is invaluable. Everyone is talking about his 3 point shooting, but the guy is a very good defender. These are the type of guys that Bill gets the most out of- instant offense w/o sacrificing on the defensive end. 80% from the free throw line. Averages almost a steal a game. He's the perfect 2. He's not a shot hog, but can step up when needed. I love his shots off the dribble - he doesn't need much room to put up a shot. You know, Matt Mooney was not the most highly sought after grad transfer. But the experience he brought to Tech was invaluable. I'm sure there were people saying he wasn't great...that he was just good before last year. Well, he was great because of what he brought to that team that made them go from a good team to a great one. Moss might just be our Matt Mooney this year.
HOT DIGGITY DAWG!!!!!!!
@Texas-Hawk-10 Vick had 7 turnovers in that game. Not what I would call "interchangeable". To say that Wayne was "interchangeable" with Devonte when Frank was playing point guard is quite a stretch, imo. I'm not trying to be contentious, but theory is one thing, and practical application is another. I don't think Ochai has a smidgen of the ball handling skills that a Marcus Garrett has, nor do I think JW has the ball handling skills at that level, either. Now, there is absolutely no doubt that both Ochai and JW have much better shooting skills than Marcus...of that I have no doubt. To me, they are wings...and if we try to play them together with Dotson w/o a Marcus or Moss on the floor, we're going to be in trouble.
...and this is what happens when you don't take care of the ball: ( 24 turnovers )
https://big12statistics.com/sports/mbkb/2018-19/boxscores/20190105_zgwj.xml?view=boxscore ↗ ↗
@Texas-Hawk-10 The theory is the 2-3 are interchangeable. That doesn't mean it is always reality. When WVU ran their press, no way would we rely on Vick to bring the ball up, even though he was a 2/3. And who can forget those wonderful escapades when we tried to play Wayne at the 2...or EJ at the 1? They're interchangeable only in Bill's mind. Reality is we can't have Dotson and two wings in the back court at the same time, imo. We couldn't run out Dotson/Ochai/Wilson at the same time. It's not going to work. That's just not enough ball handling skills for our offense to work effectively. The first time Ochai gets doubled, does he have the ball handling skills to dribble out of it? That's why I keep saying that Moss is more important than JW for this year. So, here are my scenarios... depending on who we sign:
If we whiff : Dot/MG/Ochai/Silvio/Doke
Moss only: Dot/Moss-MG/Ochai/Silvio/Doke
JW only : Dot/MG/Ochai-JW/Silvio/Doke
Both Moss & JW:
Dot/Moss-MG/Ochai-JW/Silvio/Doke
And it wouldn't surprise me a bit if JW doesn't pick up time at the 4... especially if he has challenges guarding on the perimeter ( which would not surprise me ).
@jayballer73 So we're not going to offer Moss because we need another big? We already have 5 bigs for 2 spots, and we have 5 guards ( 2 freshmen included) for 3 spots. My question is...can Jalen play the 2? Can Ochai play the 2? And I would say no to both. So, when was the last time that Bill only had 1 good ball handling guard in the lineup? Like...never? Now, Marcus can definitely play the 2, but he's not the greatest at shooting. And Moss has more experience than any guard we have, and he is pretty good at shooting.
@RockkChalkk Are we upset that Q is gone?
My personal opinion is he wanted to get away from his angry coach. Frannie has a long history dating back to 2006 for complete melt downs. Last year, he chased down the refs, and cussed them out after a 20 point loss.
https://heavy.com/sports/2019/03/fran-mccaffery-iowa-coach-suspension/ ↗ ↗
No doubt his son contracting cancer back in 2013/2014 caused their family a ton of stress and angst. That said, I think I can safely say that Fran McCaffery is the angriest, most emotionally out of control coach in college basketball. I'll bet he's a total pain in the ass to play for. The only time you hear about Iowa basketball is when he has one of his infamous emotional breakdowns. I don't blame Moss a bit not wanting to be around that kind of energy all the time.
The ball slap. His hands are lethal weapons anytime anyone brings the ball within a mile of him. He takes the ball away for a run out practically every game.
@drgnslayr I've been whining ever since he visited, and we didn't offer him. I think he's dynamite- he is the perfect addition to our back court.
@HighEliteMajor If we get Moss, then a rotation of Dot, Ochai, Garrett, and Moss is strong. And if JW come aboard, then we can match up with anyone in the country. Moss brings a wealth of experience, and he can flat score. And then the MG outside shot becomes less significant.
@BShark I'm not going to spike the ball...not yet...
@BeddieKU23 When Jordan Poole ( pretty good player ) was asked who was the toughest player he had to play against in the B10, he answered Isaiah Moss. Now, that quote didn't surface until after Moss had signed with the Hawgs, so I then figured all the mealy mouthing from Iowa fans saying they "were glad" Moss was gone was Iowa corn fed B.S.. Remember, a Hawkeye fan has the same inferiority complex as a Clone fan- they just wear different colors.
Isaiah Moss.... 48 3-pointers in 114 attempts. Quentin Grimes .... 54 3-pointers in 159 attempts. Any questions?
