This team is just hysterical this year lol. Look like the better team but we canât stop doing the dumbest possible shit.
Tighten up a bit and we should win this damn thing.

I want to see Coit, Kease and Flory play anyways
JalĂłn missing the summer killed us.
This was the team we were supposed to be watching day 1. Win next week and all will be forgiven this season.
Pat Forde claiming his source said not health related.

The more I watch this league the more Iâm confused about whoâs any good. ASU currently beating Utah
The margin for error being so thin makes it even more amazing KU is somehow 1-5.
There is a parallel universe where this team is undefeated going into Manhattan and college game day/big noon is there.
@approxinfinity verbatim what he said wasnât. But I think his political leanings are pretty clearâŚ
@DanR we have gone 3 and out several times like right at the worst time. And then our 2-min D just sucks. Too lax.
It could be conditioning in the 4th, but the issues in the 2nd half feel like poor coaching/game management.
At the same time I think JD threw 2 awful picks for two of these scores. I know he did UNLV, but I thought he did Illinois as well but my brain is fuzzy on that.
One thing that is pissing me off defensively though is WHERE TF IS THE SPY? Why do we just let QBs get one read and then just tuck and run? The next 3 weeks we will see mobile guys. Needs addressed (needed addressed two weeks ago).
Honestly, every week it is just a new thing with this squad. Hoping the bye week gives the coaches time to get their shit together. I hope they gave the players a few days to be college kids and get some frustration out. A resounding win against Houston and going into Manhattan with a chip on our shoulders could be fun.
At this point our job is just to ruin seasons. Play mad. Play ballsy (enough conservative endings to halves and FGs).
@approxinfinity said in Crap on Jeff Grimes thread:
@Kcmatt7 hoping this comment aged poorly. Grimes did much better and we still lost.
Offense looked pretty great actually. Grimes probably bought himself another week.
Defense was atrocious.
The season continues to just be a kick in the groin though. Heartbreaker after heartbreaker.
This team is so close. It just wasnât supposed to be this kind of seasonâŚ
@kjayhawks said in Not Trying To Be A Richard:
@approxinfinity we have talent, we seems to be lacking heart, pride and coaching.
Yea if this ship doesnât turn around it is one of the biggest coaching failures Iâll have ever seen in my sports fandom. Not sure there will have been a team in my memory with a more disappointing season after sky high expectations than this one.
Wiggins season comes to mind.
20-21 basketball season was pretty brutal.
18-19 season was tough after Doke got hurt.
But this football team may take the cake at this rate.
Iâll say this. If nothing changes, and they keep losing, LL deserves some heat.
Big issue now is they have a Lockerroom that is likely on the brink of collapse. You have to fire Grimes even to appease the players if they lose this week.
And if they lose and keep Grimes you can just count me out on watching another game this season.
@FarmerJayhawk Dewitt and Girod doing very good things. Obviously among a lot of other unsung heroes.
A good football team also helps a lotâŚ
@FarmerJayhawk yea I think technically it was about the same run to pass ratio this week as it has been. But I agree I thought they were a little sharper this week from the eye test.
We are still really lacking in explosive plays.
The other thought is simply that we should probably only be throwing the ball 15-20 times a game and JD should be running the ball 15-20 times a game. Klein or Snyder at KSU take this exact roster and are 4-1 or 5-0, they tell the WRs to piss off, and they run JD until he breaks. QB draws, QB ISOs, midline reads, inverted veers, etc. If youâre ride or die with JD, and he had his mojo stolen by Dr. Evil, you have to adjust and use what he has to offer. Even if you do this game to game. Run a normal script to start, if he looks sharp keep throwing. If heâs off, go to plan B.
Have we ran a single trick play all season? A QB throwback? Have we even ran a normal rollout to the right throw back to the left to a leaking TE? These are staples in CFB. They work every week.
@approxinfinity we may not talk about it a lot. But I do wonder if having threads crapping on politicians (deserved or not) on the list of threads currently going is a good way of recruiting new board rats of any political affiliation.
@AsadZ I think the pass game has obviously been a major issue.
Too many straight drop backs. JD should be put into a lot of RPOs and rollouts with a run/pass option.
I also think they arenât involving JD enough in the run game, and heâs not scrambling to run enough. If he would torch some teams on the ground they would need to start accounting for him. Which in turn opens the pass game up more.
JD not seeing the field is a challenge, but itâs even worse for him when you arenât scheming him easy completions. You can call the perfect play but if your personnel canât execute it doesnât matter.
I also think we have made a scheme change pre snap to a âdouble motionâ vs a shift. So we run a motion, then let the motion guy get set, and then run another motion. There is nothing inherently tricky about this to prep for.
A team that did the AK shifts is much tougher. You may matchup with personnel, but then we shift 3 guys all at one time and now youâre asking 3-5 defenders to adjust who they are covering.
I also thought AK schemed the running backs into the passing game better than Grimes has so far. Like not in screens but down the field. Get Devin or Hishaw the ball on the run in open space and good luck.
At the same time, I think Grimes may be a cerebral play caller and a capable QB may make him look amazing. The bigger issue I have with Grimes is his playcallibg has not adjusted for how we are currently playing. Meaning JD should not be asked to throw the ball 30 times.
What is disappointing is that LL apparently hasnt stepped in and forced Grimes to make these adjustments, which is a failure on his part. He should be criticized. He is still a really solid coach by all appearances, and he lets his guys do their job which I like. But last week was the time to get involved and influence the scheme. That didnât happen.
If it were me, I would probably make the change to Marshall at halftime if JD doesnât look good again against ASU and start the clock on his 4 games.
You need to get him work since we wonât be in a bowl game this year.
@approxinfinity said in The JD Redemption Story:
@nuleafjhawk Do not be too eager to deal out judgment. Even the very wise cannot see all ends. My heart tells me that JD has some part to play in it, for good or evil, before this is over.
Unfortunately I fear he is done. Arm is shot, play caller doesnât mesh, and he is making reads like a high school freshman. I donât remember a player regressing more than him in my lifetime.
We sort of had a no politics rule forever ago. Ironically, JB was one who repeatedly claimed politics was intertwined with sports and constantly waded into those waters. We tried to move politics into an isolated channel.
Then, some people didnât like the pushback or the idea that some people didnât agree with them. Especially considering the polarization that came with 45. Those people left.
It sucks. Politics should probably be ârebannedâ from the board imo. Also, math would dictate that KU likely has a more liberal fanbase than conservative. It is likely to lean that way on the board, maybe, slightly.
I do think the board is pretty moderate leaning. But thatâs my opinion. Just because you vote one way simply means youâre trying to pick the best of two choices available to you. Weâre so quick to judge.
What is really lost here is someone with the time to post long-winded thought provoking threads. That was really the role JB filled. Off the wall thoughts, and then he would defend them vigorously and keep debate going. And when nobody knew anyoneâs politics, and that lens wasnât there to look at people through, people would just debate the topic.
Now a major issue is that people know each others politics on here a bit and they canât help but go there almost immediately.
Another major thing that happened is college sports has irreversibly shifted with NIL and transfer portal and unfortunately politics are a lens with how people viewed those new changes to the sport. It drove some people out.
I wonder if there is a way to create some threads that are actually totally anonymous @approxinfinity ? Like usernames hidden.
@FarmerJayhawk who do they think takes this job if you fire LL after one bad season? lol.
I will say the fan discourse on twitter talking about firing LL is hysterical. Guy is still THE guy.
Unfortunate season. He is still a heck of a coach.
Imagine asking JD to throw 30 passes after watching him throw a football these past 4 games. What a game plan.
@FarmerJayhawk said in The JD Redemption Story:
@kjayhawks and that is to say I believe Jeff Grimes has called his last play at Kansas
Goff needs to step in here. Someone has to be the sacrificial lamb.
But regardless of whether they do or not, itâs too late. They had to win one of these two games to make a bowl game. He shouldnât have called plays today.
And before anyone tries to blame the D today. They created 4 TOs and only gave up 28. Did their part.
Also, 3 rushes for JD in a must-win game is a crime.
This staff deserves to be criticized.
You HAVE to bench JD.
10/25 for 122 yards. Lucky to not have a few INTs today.
Nick Saban benched Jalen Hurts at half of a National Championship game. He would have already benched JD this year.
@Kcmatt7 Goodman pod.
Actually upon hearing another clip from it on twitter sounds like he may have said AJ starting instead of KJ.
Juan/Zeke/Aj/Hunt
The 5th spot up for grabs.
Zeke starting according to Bill. Storr or Griffen off the bench.
@approxinfinity I would certainly run him more now since he clearly lost his arm from the back injury.
He has a good enough arm you still have to respect the pass. But at this point you arenât worried about keeping him healthy. Every game from here on out has to be played like it is a championship game. Because it basically is if we want to sniff a bowl.
WVU played today like that. Their QB had almost 20 runs today. We need that same since of urgency.
Schedule does look easy still. Next 3 need to be wins.
The silver lining is JD looked better today than he has. This was an L on the schedule preseason.
Small sliver of hope left.
@nuleafjhawk idk itâs pretty clear he overcame some pretty god awful coaching in college
3 losses like this is tough to swallow. Could be 4-0
Dotson having a tough day so far.
Thank goodness for this defense. Weâre due for a long TD
Regardless of whether he was running for his life or not, he threw another pick. I imagine mentally heâs done for the day. Time to make a change.
Also, now itâs time to figure out if the issue is Grimes or JD. Give Grimes 3 quarters with a new QB and see if it works.
If youâve ever been in a situation where your superior only yells at you, youâll start to normalize it and it isnât motivating at all.
A timely âatta boyâ is often times more motivating than screaming.
Also, a HUGE difference in challenging guys to be better and mf-ing them to the point of embarrassment.
Also, some guys are more motivated with an âIâll show youâ attitude and nonchalance is a motivating tool.
There are a ton of levers to pull to motivate people and a good coach will utilize all of them.
Grimes shouldnât last the weekend if the offense doesnât improve this week.
Someone must be the sacrificial lamb when a 9-win team with a soft schedule and this many seniors returning doesnât make a bowl game.
Just the way it has to be.
@nuleafjhawk they may not be worse, but they may have the biggest fall YoY of any team ever.
@FarmerJayhawk they didnât fill the stadium tonight tbh. Open seats galore. 45k if theyâre lucky enough to get a good ISU showing. Will be lucky to sniff 30k most games.
Kelly is welcome to go live in Lincoln, Nebraska. Theyâve done nothing to expect anything other than fickle support. Sign a buyout worthy of commitment and Iâll double my Williams fund and NIL contributions.
@FarmerJayhawk sure if youâre in the locker room. But that isnât a realistic fan perspective.
@kjayhawks said in UNLV - Any Bets?:
@dylans we lost to ourselvesâŚâŚagain
This team is 3-0 if they literally do not throw a pass the first 3 weeks. It is the exact type of thing KUFB canât escape. Laughing stock type of stuff.
It is so stereotypical KUFB. K-State finds a way to win these two games and KU doesnât. It is what defines our program.
@FarmerJayhawk not sure that works anymore. That was the saying last week. 5-4 to make a bowl game. Could happen, but it feels like best case scenario at this point.
@kjayhawks if they donât make a bowl game theyâll lose a month of practice too:
NIL funding is going to go very dry without a turnaround.
Very very very bad start to the season. A win in Morgantown would change the rhetoric, but damn.
Whatever this offense is, something had to change. Grimes or JD. It simply is not meshing.
This is a game KSU wins. They recover that fumble. We donât.
Itâs why we are little brother in football. I hate it. Until we do the little things we will continue to be a joke.
Funding-wise this ets KUFB back significantly. They likely donât make a bowl game. Back to being a joke/irrelevant team.
Only bright side here is LL wonât get offered to leave this offseason.
@benshawks08 I think youâre right and it is likely that we had guys in favorable matchups and JD missed. But it was clear early JD didnât have it and sometimes you just have to run the ball.
You hand the ball off to Devin Neal 3rd and 3 when you have a must-have first down.
As long as JD bounces back this team is still a threat to win the B12. Was definitely more disappointed with JD than play calling probably.
Last play sums the game up.
Afraid we may be in for a disappointing season. This is the downside to having expectations
I would have let Trevor have a shot to return that one
@kjayhawks heâs got his QB. Definitely a sleeper in the B12
Herbstriet called it on game day. Altmeyer woild outplay JD
Only bright side would be that this isnât a conference game.
@kjayhawks this is the worst heâs looked since his true freshman year
