@Woodrow KK was looking for a sound bite. Asked about it being a level playing field and how KU has won 10 years in a row.

Silvio Done • Oct 24, 2018 02:57 PM

Is it too late for him to change guardians? lol.

Embiid • Oct 24, 2018 02:51 PM

Joel Embiids GF is a smoke show.

Boston vs California • Oct 24, 2018 02:51 PM

Just how the TV providers like it.

The Shoe Co • Oct 24, 2018 02:48 PM

@HighEliteMajor I'll bet I know more about internal and external reporting requirements than you do. But we can just move on. If that is where you find your moral ambiguity, we won't ever see it the same and I'm ok accepting that.

@BShark @BeddieKU23 I just think Richards is on more of the WCS development path and won't really be any good until his Junior year.

Should KC go for it? • Oct 24, 2018 01:35 PM

@BShark He'd be a perfect fit. We should just sign him this offseason, unless we can get him for a 5th (we don't have a 4th to trade).

FBI...here we go • Oct 24, 2018 01:33 PM

@jayballer73 So I guess what I'm trying to say is that I don't think we will get anything but a slap on the wrist.

FBI...here we go • Oct 24, 2018 01:33 PM

@jayballer73 A not guilty verdict means that Adidas and Nike can basically just keep paying players and there is not a damn thing the NCAA can do about it.

Should KC go for it? • Oct 24, 2018 01:30 PM

I'd love Landon Collins. If I knew Eli Apple was on the market, I would have traded for him. If this makes the Peterson price go down to a single 1st, I'd consider it.

The truth is that I think the coaches and Veach are probably happy with what we have.

The Shoe Co • Oct 24, 2018 01:27 PM

@HighEliteMajor You should read the rest of the post instead of focusing so much on the one sentence hyperbole. I think it brought up plenty of valid points. You seem to be holding Self to a standard that you are not holding Adidas to in this scenario.

@BeddieKU23 You are probably right. And they were already dropping enough games that they couldn't let Richards play through mistakes. Kind of a lose-lose situation for both parties. I do wonder what a year of development will do for him.

The Shoe Co • Oct 24, 2018 12:25 PM

@HighEliteMajor Please, specifically, what part of my last post was idiocy? I would love to not be such a ridiculous, tripe-posting idiot who lacks integrity in his ordinary life. Please help me.

FBI...here we go • Oct 24, 2018 01:02 AM

If not guilty, I’d think it would mean the NCAA lost almost all of its authority in a court of law. And KU will be the least of their problems. If guilty, KU and the NCAA keep up the farce that is college athletics.

The Shoe Co • Oct 24, 2018 12:07 AM

@Careful-you i think a lot would be solved by letting players profit off of their likeness. That would encourage transparency in my opinion.

@JayHawkFanToo I think he comes off the bench. I mean he definitely will be an offensive threat. I just think Cal runs Green, Quickley, KJ, PJ and Travis out there as his starting lineup. With Hagans and Herro coming off the bench.

The Shoe Co • Oct 23, 2018 09:50 PM

@HighEliteMajor I'm making fun of how you can think it is ok for someone to disguise payments that knowingly would make a player ineligible. Which risks that player's career. And they are doing it for their own personal gain. And yet, somehow, you think that is acting with integrity.

But then you are also criticizing coaches for doing the same thing. And you can say it is because of the rules agreed to that they are different, but these Adidas reps know the rules. (Which is why they are disguising payments). They know what could happen if a player were to get caught. They know that a kid like Bowen could have his entire career ran off the tracks because of this. They know they could get someone in deep trouble with the IRS. They know they are tempting people to break the rules and laws. In what way is that showing a single ounce of integrity? And this doesn't even get to what moral code you are abiding by. Is it Christian? Is it your own? Buddhist?

I'm not mocking you for demanding integrity. I'm mocking you for not consistently expecting it across the board from everyone in everything they do and acting like Bill Self ran over your dog but that Adidas is somehow immune from any wrongdoing because they were just trying to take advantage of the capitalistic model of the United States.

Fwiw, Adidas did not pay players with Adidas money. According to the falsified documents on the paper trails they left, they paid someone else, who then paid players. There is no invoice to Billy Preston's mom. There was no 1099 or W2 filed for Fenny Falmagne. There was no direct payment from Adidas to a player. It was done in a way that was not honest. Honesty is a major part of integrity, is it not? Why would they not be honest about where payments were going? Because it was wrong.

I just don't like when someone paints themselves as Jesus on the Cross one day, but then tries to justify moral ambiguities the next. It makes them seem disingenuous.

The Shoe Co • Oct 23, 2018 08:15 PM

@HighEliteMajor Just because something isn't a material amount,
that doesn't make it legal. "Mr. Integrity."

@BShark I do think he could be an incredible defender. I'll wait on the offense. I mean, I need to see a game or two to really form a good opinion. But this is my preseason hot take haha.

@BShark I still think they are crazy young and don't have anyone in that bunch that I'd be scared of. They return 3 players from a 11 loss team (and should have been 13).

I just fail to see where they improved. They are roughly the same at the guard position as last season, imo. But now they have a much thinner in the front court. I mean they had 3 guards drafted last season. Two were lottery picks. I don't know that they won't be lucky to get that good of play out of this year's group. Especially out of the PG spot.

I think Reid Travis is more the product of a "best scorer on a bad team" than him being really good. I think PJ is a 6'5 PF with no outside game. I think Richards might actually be there best post. But Cal hates him. I think EJ will struggle to adjust to the speed of the game. I think Green is meh. So, unless one of Herro, KJ, Hagans or Quickley is going 18 ppg, that team is going to struggle to score.

FBI...here we go • Oct 23, 2018 05:50 PM

The #HoopsTrial jury has begun day 2 of deliberations. Jurors have agreed to deliberate until 8:30p EDT tonight

Sounds like the jurors are pretty set on getting this finalized before tomorrow...

Kansas #1 in Preseason AP Poll • Oct 23, 2018 05:44 PM

@KUSTEVE I think Jay Wright would like to have a word with you.

But I do agree that it would be nice to see some NBA spread the floor concepts for stretches.

Kansas #1 in Preseason AP Poll • Oct 23, 2018 05:10 PM

I don't know that what Silvio brings can be duplicated. But his loss can most likely be mitigated. I don't see this team dropping off much without him. So many different lineup combos that can be put in that his loss can be made up for in a lot of other ways.

I seriously think UK loses double digit games this season. Overrated. They don't even have a player that would have made 2nd team. Maybe not even a 3rd team.

Unless one of those freshmen guards is John Wall they are going to struggle to score, imo.

Should KC go for it? • Oct 23, 2018 04:35 PM

@justanotherfan They need to switch to the 4-3 next season. The team appears to have been built to do that. Either by accident or purposefully I don't know. But I believe you could play Neiman and DOD as OLBs in a 4-3 and see both of them be extremely successful. And as you said, they would allow you to not shuffle in players near as much.

The Shoe Co • Oct 23, 2018 04:32 PM

@mayjay Offering enormous sums of money and falsifying documents so that people can hide those transactions isn't corrupt!!! Every good organization in the world does that. For crying out loud, our fearless leader and role model Donald Trump has never done anything like that. Bernie Madoff either. Organized crime rings definitely didn't do anything like that. Only clean, wholesome companies have a "black ops" division whose job is to pay people under the table and off the books illegally.

The Shoe Co • Oct 23, 2018 04:05 PM

@Statmachine The connections are pretty easy. There are two major things.

  1. Certain schools sell more gear than others. Especially when they are winning. Funneling kids to profitable schools works for both parties.
  2. Brands are competing for the next Jordan or LeBron or KD. Go look at how much revenue comes from selling basketball shoes with one of those 3 guys name on them. LeBron sells $300M+ worth of shoes every year. KD close behind that. Kyrie, right behind that. It isn't hard to see why shoe companies want guys. So it is totally worth spending $3-5M a year trying to convince players to go to a school and sign with your company because all you have to do is find one guy to sell shoes.
NBA Starts Tonight • Oct 23, 2018 03:57 PM

Josh needs to go to the D-League for a bit. It would be in the Sun's best interest.

NBA teams keep trying to complain that players don't come out prepared. But they put players in impossible situations at this point. Teams trade away all of their talent and tank harder than ever. Then they draft a guy and expect him to come in and be the savior of a Franchise.

JJ was rough around the edges at KU. He needed a full year in the G-League right of the bat just to work on his offense.

Should KC go for it? • Oct 23, 2018 02:25 PM

We can't give up a 2019 1st for him. We are set up for the 2019 draft perfectly. There are other players out there if we are desperate. Bills, Colts, 49ers and Giants all have guys that would improve the D.

I would love to have Peterson who is actually on a pretty cheap contract all things considered. But I just don't know that I could justify giving up two firsts or even a first and a 2nd. We need more than just one CB to make this team better.

Kansas #1 in Preseason AP Poll • Oct 22, 2018 08:21 PM

Sneed would have to really take a big step and play like he did against Kentucky for me to think they are worthy of being a top 25 team.

Kansas #1 in Preseason AP Poll • Oct 22, 2018 08:18 PM

I actually agree. I think KSU is getting way too much pub from there crazy easy Elite 8 run. If anything, they finish 2nd because the rest of the league is weak. But they were clearly just the 4th best team last year. KU, TTU, and WVU swept them last season. They played a crazy easy non-con schedule and still lost double-digit games.

If I were to bet money on it, they lose double digit games again. Bruce has had double digit loss seasons in 14 of 20 years. He's lost double digit games 5 consecutive years, and 11 of the last 12 years.

Don't be fooled.

New 2019 Recruiting • Oct 22, 2018 06:23 PM

Any Stanley news? It's been almost a full month now.

New 2019 Recruiting • Oct 22, 2018 06:21 PM

Really need to push the NCAA to decide quickly on any punishment following what the close of the trial. I think a lot of players would feel better if we just ended up getting a slap on the wrist and that cloud was gone.

New 2019 Recruiting • Oct 22, 2018 05:31 PM

We'll pull a rabbit out of somewhere. I'm not worried yet. Still have reclass candidates, transfers, and guys will get canned in March and it's like a 2nd wave of recruiting at this point.

We NEED to land at least 2 bigs in this class. But that is the only mandatory thing. I kind of expect us to take a couple more transfers if there are any worth taking.

Emporia State EXI • Oct 21, 2018 07:59 PM

@Hawk8086 I think they are probably as clean as anyone can be and still be successful. By that I mean I'm sure there is still some shady alumni/booster thins going on. But that John Beilein is probably pretty dang clean himself. He does a lot finding hidden gems and lands mostly localish players.

@FarmerJayhawk Apologies for speaking in absolutes.

@FarmerJayhawk Yea but we are talking a fundamental difference in amount.

I have never, and will never, say that the NCAA or schools should pay players themselves. I am only a proponent of allowing players to receive sponsorship dollars and whatever people are willing to pay for their likeness.

But the schools and NCAA provide plenty and they should not provide any monetary support.

@HighEliteMajor You think enforcement is cheaper than moving to the olympic model?

@HighEliteMajor So, being a realist, knowing the NCAA won't put the money required to strictly enforce the rules nor do they have the leverage to do so, do you think the status quo is the best option?

Playoffs • Oct 20, 2018 01:44 PM

@wissox Can we just fire Boston into the Sun and replay the ALCS?

@HighEliteMajor Well is that part of the model or not? The NCAA is responsible for enforcement. Therefore, part of the model. No?

@HighEliteMajor Yea the corruption trial has proven the NCAA model is without flaw.

The Next Coach • Oct 19, 2018 08:23 PM

The more I look at Jones, the more I wouldn't be super pissed. He has recruited well out of Kansas JUCOs and seems to have that connection at least.

NBA Starts Tonight • Oct 19, 2018 03:48 AM

Lakers are looooooooooooong. But can’t shoot even a little.

NBA Starts Tonight • Oct 19, 2018 03:46 AM

Philly beat a bad Chicago team.

Svi hasn’t seen a minute in the Lakers game and they haven’t hit a 3 yet with two minutes left in the first half

@justanotherfan I’m just saying, there is definitely a floor for how far NCAA BB could fall. They aren’t ever going to nationally televise G-League games. I don’t know I can say that CBB will ever have that issue.

FBI...here we go • Oct 18, 2018 11:48 PM

@BigBad I'm not saying he did. I'm just not saying someone else around the program didn't.

FBI...here we go • Oct 18, 2018 11:45 PM

@BigBad An arrogant asshole who verbally (and probably physically) abused players and doesn't recruit but was amazingly successful for 35 years. Sounds totally legit.

FBI...here we go • Oct 18, 2018 11:41 PM

@cragarhawk Absolutely taints the game. The game has been tainted since the 50s. But it is the system we place upon it that doesn't work, not those inside of it. There is so much money in the game and we expect those generating the product to not want to take a bite of the apple. You guys say it is about integrity, but the ones without integrity are the ones who ignore the rules in the first place. The NCAA. You can only expect as much integrity out of the system as you put into the system. The NCAA has no desire to stop the payments, so they don't.
