He reclasses, and that is basically the writing on the wall for Doke. Bill must be desperate.
Might finally be it for them.
Unfortunately for us, I think there will be some lucrative offers for Doke overseas. He is a project with a huge potential payoff. But besides that, he has a bit of a "circus side show" effect going for him as well.
"Come one come all and see this giant freak Dunk everything!" He will, at the very least, sell some tickets. I think that makes him a valuable commodity for an overseas team trying to get people to gain an interest in basketball.
@jayballer73 Lol don't we all...
LBJ THO
Certainly donβt look like gladiators
@BShark I sure hope so. I just didn't realize it. Gosh dang he is going to be fun to watch.
Wouldn't it be something to see KJ come out and be a freak this year? I feel like living in your brother's shadow would be motivation enough to bust his ass.
Side note: I just saw that Dedric had like 12% body fat at the combine. I can only imagine how much more explosive he will be after a year with Hudy. I kind of expect the same bump from KJ though. I doubt they were getting the best of the best at Memphis.
@BShark I would be fine with that.
@BShark I'd just say screw it and start Dedric at the 5 and KJ at the 4 if we lost both.
Dedric has an 8'11 standing reach. He could literally guard anyone.
I'm ok with that. I just want him to be able to stretch the floor.
@Woodrow We deserve a really annoying white guy who is good for no physical reason other than he just plays harder. Like where is our Singler, Kelly, Hansbrough?
Mitch could become the most hated player in basketball!
But I do agree, it probably requires a redshirt to accomplish that. He might as well get a free 5th year paid for right?
He could have easily piled on, but he didn't. You have to respect how he sticks to his guns at all times.
To be honest, I know guys who played football at Butler CC and they even got paid. Random envelopes of cash would just end up in their mailboxes. Everyone is getting paid and has been for a long time.
With Doke and Silvio AND another Wing I see it as:
- Dedric - KJ
- Doke - Silvio
With Doke and Silvio and No Wing I see it as:
- Dedric - KJ - Silvio - Mitch
- Doke - Silvio - Big Dave
Without Doke I see it as:
- KJ - Silvio - Mitch
- Dedric - Silvio - Big Dave
Without Silvio I see it as:
- Dedric - KJ - Mitch
- Doke - Big Dave
Without either I see it as:
- KJ - Mitch - Garrett
- Dedric - Big Dave
I am not worried about the post rotation. Worse case scenario, we lose both and we start 5 guys who can all shoot the 3.
I just find it hard to believe a legit footer with his athleticism wouldn't get invited. I mean at least take a look and see if he is such a freak he may actually be worth the investment.
I feel like he will get invited. He has to be one of the 60 most intriguing prospects right?
@BShark JRE = Perry 2.0 basically right?
@Woodrow Welcome!
I hope he does though. I actually think that's pretty sweet.
At least that was how I read it.
Lol I would laugh if PJ left. There fans are saying take grad transfers, but who would want to come play at UK there last year and watch a bunch of freshmen lose 11 games? Sounds miserable.
Poor poor Cal. Hope he lands Maxey and Green bounces. I honestly think Lexington will go to war lol.
@BShark His post basically said he was gone.
I would be shocked to see him come back.
@BShark I think he means where are people finding that info out?
Oubre was a freak and should have played a lot of stretch 4.
Former OAD KU Comparisons:
Josh Jackson
- Height: 6'8
- Wingspan: 6'9 and 3/4
- Standing Reach: 8'9 and 3/4
- Weight: 203 lbs
B-Mac:
- Height: 6'3.5
- Weight: 189 lbs
- Wingspan: 6'7.75
- Reach: 8'4.5
Xavier Henry
- Height: 6'5.5
- Weight: 210 lbs
- Wingspan: 6'11.25
- Standing Reach: 8'9
Wiggins:
- Height: 6'7
- Weight: 197 lbs
- Wingspan: 7'0
- Standing Reach: 8'11
Oubre:
- Height: 6'5.75
- Weight: 203 lbs
- Wingspan: 7'2.25
- Standing Reach: 9'0
Lol at KJ being listed at 6'7 and Kentucky people thinking he can play the 4.
Hurt might not be able to win you a game by himself, but he would make everyone else on the floor better the entire time he is on the court. He should stretch the floor, pass well and rebound effectively. He is the type of player that has the quietest 12 ppg, 3 assists, 2 blocks and 7 rebounds you've ever seen. But then he also leads the team in +/-
Lol it really was great. Basically said when stories are written where it is "an unnamed coach" and then later only one coach is quoted it is usually the same guy haha. Especially when it isn't specifically stated that they are different people.
I can only picture Forde and Dakich bitching about KU while getting a couple's massage lol.
Petro ripping apart the story now. Basically saying he thinks the unnamed guy is also Dakich lol.
@BShark Lol "facts."
"An unnamed coach that is best friends with Bill Self said that Bill cheats."
And it is just so funny to see him use players we held out against us.
@justanotherfan I disagree with basically everything you said, so I'll leave it at that.
Lol that was a joke. Of course my internet cut out right when it seemed Petro was trying to make him say even more ridiculous stuff.
I hope Petro crushes him
-
Sean Miller is taking scraps right now because his entire recruiting class fell apart after the FBI probe.
-
I'll believe the tape when the DOJ actually uses it as evidence. There is no proof of that tape existing at the moment. Well, other than Miller not filing a lawsuit against ESPN for defamation.
I can't help but think this FBI cloud will really hurt us until it is over or it completely blows up and everyone else gets pulled in.
For clarification, Memphis worries me because of Mike Miller's relationship with the Hurts.
Memphis and Louisville getting involved with Hurt. That recruitment is going to be a dog fight to the end. I sure hope he takes visits and commits early.
@justanotherfan I think they will need to wait until an injury or the deadline to deal anyone to be honest. That is when teams are desperate enough to give up real value. You just have to hope that Moose and Duda keep hitting well.
What is funny, we may have 4 starting pitchers all around 3.00 ERA we could unload at the deadline for a massive haul.
If DM does what he should instead of listening to sentimental fans, I think it is realistic to add another 8-10 decent prospects back into the farm system this year from trades alone. Add in another 4 or 5 picks in the first two rounds of the draft and the rebuild process should really get a good jumpstart.
If this really does happen, maybe Dayton really is playing chess while everyone else is playing checkers. And, it would have been the right decision to sign all of these old guys as well as try to keep the team in tact last season.
Of course this is all hypothetical, but not unrealistic.
- Moose Rental at $3M - Worth 1 AAA prospect and one Single -A.
- Duda Rental $1.75M - Worth 2 AA prospects
- Duffy and Hammel Combo - Worth 2 AAA prospects and 1 AA prospects
- Junis and Kennedy Combo - Worth 3 AAA prospects
- Herrera - Worth 2 AAA prospects
This would obviously be best case scenario. If we could make 2 or 3 of these deals happen, I would absolutely call it a success. Getting Kennedy's deal off the books is muy importante to the future success of this organization.
By 2020, this team should be one of the cheapest in the league. I would like to see that continue until about 2023. At that point, I would like us to try to keep any good young players we have and actually put together a decent organization.
@AsadZ I think he let's him ride off into the sunset after the season. No sense in firing a manager if they are going to secure you the #1 pick in the draft.
@BShark This feels like Matt making up info so people stay off his back for the next two weeks waiting on the Romeo decision.
Danny will be lucky to make it through this season. And I find it hard to disagree. I have yet to see any improvement.
@HighEliteMajor I would say that is probably true. But I do find it as good evidence for the prosecutors to use as a way of explaining how they committed fraud and knew what they were doing was unlawful.
However, I do think precedence has already been set from the Myron Piggie case.
https://caselaw.findlaw.com/us-8th-circuit/1161058.html β
Which was based off of precedence from a case against Assistant Coaches from Baylor's Basketball Team:
https://openjurist.org/96/f3d/769/united-states-v-gray β
That case was based off of this U.S. Code:
https://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/text/28/1346 β
In the Baylor case, they argued that the code was unconstitutionally vague, and lost.
Also this code:
https://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/text/18/371 β
If you notice the use of "honest services" was documented in the FBIs indictment several times. This, to me, means they will most likely be referencing the codes that I linked as well as the cases I linked.
I find it very unlikely that these men will be able to get out of this the more I read. These codes were put in for dang near these exact type of cases.
Now, I do not think that the NCAA or Universities have much of a leg to stand on to say they were defrauded. At least not in a criminal sense. I can't see anything there.
I have found precedent that says what these guys did was criminal. But I do not know that I agree with it.
@HighEliteMajor I don't know that you are looking at this with your eyes wide open, or even exploring the possibility that what they did might be a crime. You seem to have already made your decision, without considering a lot of the facts.
I see this from an accountants perspective, and so I have a few questions for you, and points to make myself.
-
Would, creating fake invoices so that IRS reporting for cash payments larger than $10,000 is avoided, be unlawful? I would say yes.
-
Would, creating invoices in a way so that none of the required personal income tax documents get filed, such as a 1099, be unlawful? I would say yes.
Because of this, I would say that the money laundering charge is legit.
These guys are completely screwed regardless of the case against the schools. Adidas is a public company. And every single shareholder was defrauded. That is a case that would absolutely stick, imo.
@dylans sure seems like Sunrise has cranked it up a notch. And I'm not mad about it.
A question that I would like answered. Did the FBI ask the NCAA if they even WANTED this problem to be fixed? It seems to me that the NCAA is more than ok with this process or they would have instituted a larger and more intense process to make it through the clearinghouse that required documentation of all financial accounts and the subsequent auditing of those accounts by CPAs.
Operating under the assumption that the NCAA wanted this to happen is a dangerous one. I personally see more reasons for the NCAA to NOT want the FBI investigating these matters.
HighEliteMajor said:
@Kcmatt7 Try this -- if DeSousa is not ineligible, where is the fraud? Do you see my point -- he has to be ruled ineligible because of the payments or the case falls apart, right? How can there be fraud if the actual fact of it occurring did not result in the player's ineligibility? Logic says the NCAA has to find him ineligible.
I think you are confusing whether or not the NCAA actually even wanted the FBI to get involved at all. The NCAA doesn't HAVE to do anything they don't want to do. And, personally, I do not think the NCAA wanted the FBI to become involved at all. So changing rules or precedent to completely ruin the FBI's case wouldn't surprise me in the least.
However, as I've stated many times, these men committed fraud through the concealment of payments. Creating fake documents to circumvent rules and make payments is illegal. If the documents said payment to De Sousa's for future endorsement, I do not believe the FBI would have a case at all.
I do hope that the case gets thrown out though. That way players can start getting endorsements above board.
All of this could change in 9 days depending on new NCAA rules recommended by the commission.
I definitely find it hard to believe KU would hold out two players in seasons where we were a top 5 team if the compliance department wasn't doing everything they could to provide "institutional control."
As long as the NCAA doesn't come in and find a bunch of ways our compliance department basically ignored what was happening, I do not see us being penalized. I also think that at this point, the De Sousa's need to cooperate with the NCAA and figure out what his suspension will be next season. I do not think he will be ruled ineligible, as several other players named in the investigation will be playing next season as well. As long as they are honest with the NCAA, the suspension won't change even after all of the details come out in October.
@kjayhawks I think @BShark has handled this pretty well. The quote was taken out of context and it basically said the Lawson's were here as long as Bill was the head coach. They are at Kansas and not looking to transfer unless something crazy happens and Bill gets fired. And that Bill has told the players that there is nothing to worry about with the coaches being involved.
If anything, when put in the right context, it should make you feel better that someone with ears on the inside is saying the coaches have straight up told they players that they have nothing to worry about.
@BShark From what I understand, Bill has done a better job of showing them what he is like off the court than in the past. He's had them over to his house more often and stuff. Helps when they see he is just trying to make them better. When he calls them an f-ing p-sy that is practicing like they took a d in their a all night, they know it comes from a place of love.
@BShark yea I think he has the mental make up to handle it. I think he will be a hard guy for the coaches to "get on" because he will already be working his ass off. But from what I understand, Townsend rails everyone and getting railed when you are already putting in max effort does mess with your mind...
To top it off, Bill has always had the break them down to build them up mindset though, so I just never know. I have heard rumors about Self saying some stuff to T-Rob that was legit f-ed up. To the point players were holding back T-Rob from trying to fight Self. So, I mean, it can get to anyone.
