I've really liked Dotson tonight.
Good pass, Dedric.
Doke with the stare-down on an ESU player that's half his size. lol
Yeesh. Rough night for Azubuike.
Kansas needs to play defense simply because Dotson in the open-court is devastating.
If he can knock down free throws, I'm fine with him not shooting 3's.
I expected Moore to be able to knock down 3's. I was more concerned with him being a defensive liability. If he can be solid on defense he should get a lot of run.
I'm pleased with Moore's effort defensively.
Mitch with the stroke!
Lots of shots missing long. Tends to happen when you're excited.
-2 points for Big Dave!
The lineup is Dotson, Grimes, Vick, Garret, and Dedric. Cool....
Garrett in.
Dedric already has like 10 points and 5 boards. Yeesh!
Let's go Jayhawks.

Same. I’m tired of just talking legalese and rumors. I do post a lot on those just because it’s what I’ve done for a living, but I like actual basketball more. If I had to guess, I’d say the starters will be Dotson, Grimes, K.J., Dedric, and Doke. Though it would be zero surprise to see Vick starting at the 3. I’m like 90% sure Devon has shown the staff enough to claim the PG spot over Charlie. He’s probably better suited as a canned offense guy off the bench.
This comment is exactly how I feel too. I'll add that I hope Marcus Garrett plays a lot this season.

I'd love to know what Nike is doing differently.
Using offshore accounts?
The comments from Self about having already talked to the NCAA and continuing to work with them suggest that there may be a quick resolution to this for Silvio. I hope?

I'm sure Duke and UK fans will be sending death threats to the writers for not including Zion & the entire UK's starting 5.
Duke fans are probably shocked Grayson Allen isn't the perennial preseason POY.
Duke fans are seriously stunned and shocked they aren't #1 in the preseason poll. Despite basically only having 4 good players.
And having no depth. And no experience. And no time playing together. And despite every offseason ranking having either Kansas or Kentucky as #1. I'd probably put Nevada ahead of Duke at this point.
I would say Silvio is the best rebounder on the team and I'm not sure it's that close. Just looking at some numbers from last season and from Dedric's 2nd season at Memphis:
Udoka Azubuike: 11.9 rebounds per 40 minutes, 16.9 Total Rebounding Percentage (TRB%)
Dedric Lawson: 11.5 rebounds per 40 minutes, 15.9 TRB%
Mitch Lightfoot: 8.7 rebounds per 40 minutes, 12.4 TRB%
Silvio De Sousa: 16.9 rebounds per 40 minutes, 24.0 TRB%
Silvio isn't someone KU can replace. If he plays he takes KU to another level.
09-10 I think.

On paper I don't think there's a clear cut #1. So much roster turnover makes it impossible to know for sure which teams have the right chemistry and talent. My overall opinion is College Basketball is down overall but that should make it very competitive
The three most talented teams on paper are KU, UK, & Duke.
Nevada, Tennessee, Kansas St & Virginia have a mix of talent and veterans returning from good teams.
UNC, Oregon & Villanova are hard to evaluate right now but have Top 25 teams.
I don't know, I'm really high on Kansas and Kentucky this season. I think they are going to be a few notches above everyone else. If you asked me right now if I would pick Kansas and Kentucky or the field to win a national title I would probably take Kansas and Kentucky.
It seems weird that there are 7 teams receiving first-place votes. To me it feels like there are only 2 choices for the #1 spot: Kansas or Kentucky.
Might be getting some playing time now.

@BShark BTW, ESPN didn't have one story concerning the Zion Williamson/Townsend phone call. They will fight to their last breath to save the Rat and Dook.
The ACC in general, but especially Duke. ESPN is awful.
"The misguided "exploitation of athletes" crowd."
You're definitely right that some people are misguided.
@FarmerJayhawk Agreed which is why I said I don't think KU will get into any major trouble here. But I still am disappointed.
@FarmerJayhawk Do you really believe that?
It seems like the coaches knew about payments. The good news is that Gassnola testified that he didn't think the Kansas coaches knew. So I believe it will be hard for the NCAA to hang anything major on Kansas.
I'm disappointed in Kansas too, but I'm also disappointed in the You-Have-To-Be-19-Years-Old-To-Play-In-The-NBA rule, and the NCAA model that's driving these kinds of behind-the-scenes payments. A highly ranked basketball or football recruit is worth more than a one-year scholarship. Some of them are worth a lot more than a one-year scholarship, but that player's market value is being restricted by the NCAA while and even before that player attends a university. These top athletes are very valuable to Nike, Adidas, Under Armour, etc. even as teenagers because they have the potential to be the next LeBron James or Steph Curry or insert NBA Super Star and sell a bunch of shoes and merchandise. As universities are allowed to sign large multi-million dollar contracts with these apparel companies , there is a major incentive for Adidas to direct top recruits to Kansas, or Nike to direct top recruits to Kentucky or Duke. A commitment of a player to a branded university is a major step in a commitment of a player to a brand, though not always (see: Joel Embiid and Under Armour).
So all of you here probably know this, and you might reasonably say that nobody is forcing these kids to go to college. The major problem I have with this is that college basketball is by far the best way for a high-profile recruit to showcase their talent and get drafted into the NBA. In the 2018 NBA draft, 52 out of the 60 players taken played college basketball. The 8 that did not, I'm not totally sure, but am willing to wager that none or a small fraction of them were American-born. What I'm saying here is that a high-profile recruit who doesn't choose to go to college can seriously jeopardize his NBA draft position and potentially miss out on being drafted or lose millions of dollars down the road due to lack of media exposure and NBA teams not wanting to take a chance on an unproven recruit. In short, I don't like that the NCAA monopolizes high-profile basketball recruits due to a lack of alternatives for that recruit other than college basketball and at the same time restricts their true market value.

Dan Wolken from the USA Today is going in on Self. I guess I fail to understand why... Seems to me Self and KU so far look fine.
Wolken is a turd
I haven't seen anything other than a sassy twitter post. What's he doing?

I don't see any Frank in Moore. Frank was a lot more athletic.
Mason was really fast, stronger, had a better handle (which has gotten ever better if you've watched him lately), and was a better passer (which has also improved lately: 26-3 assist to turnover ratio in the preseason). He was also one of the best finishers at the rim I've ever seen at Kansas, and I see none of that in Moore. Not trying to kill Charlie here, but Frank was a NPOY and if life was fair, would start for the Kings this season. It's not really a fair comparison for Moore.
[Sacramento Kings highlights](
Check out the pass at 0:43 in the video.
Frank Mason 13 points, 8 assists, 5 steals in 28 minutes. He outplayed Fox and Ferrell tonight and he's looked good all preseason. Let's go Frank!
I believe Dotson should and will start. Team ceiling is higher with Dotson than with Moore. Need to go through the growing pains as early as possible. Waiting to start Dotson could be the difference between a sweet sixteen and a final four.
I would classify him as a hybrid of Jamari Traylor and Thomas Robinson. He's more skilled than Traylor I think.
Although it might not matter so.
Had 18 points, 3 dimes, 1 board for the Sixers in their victory over the Mavericks today. He's obviously not a former Jayhawk, and I'm mainly interested in him because he's playing with former Jayhawk, Joel Embiid, but I feel like he was a little bit of an underrated pick for Philadelphia. His defense is decent, he shot 44% from 3 in his sophomore and junior seasons, he can handle the ball, pass, and he knows how to play in a system. I kind of already like him more than Markelle Fultz.
Pitching to Moustakas and throwing him 4 fastballs down the middle is a mistake. His slider is almost unhittable. Maybe because Yelich is on 3rd he didn't want to throw a wild pitch but I mean. That's really frustrating. Trust your best pitch.
Wow, that's a really close fair/foul ball. It looks foul by just a hair.
Brewers bullpen completely shutting the Rockies down. Rockies better hit better than this in Game 2 or they'll be going back to Denver down 2 games. Yikes.
@approxinfinity And yeah, Bud Black is underrated as a manager.
@approxinfinity I would say like 65-35 in the Brewers favor. So the Rockies have two good pitchers -- Freeland and Marquez -- and then after that the pitching really falls off. Marquez pitched Monday in the NL division game against the Dodgers. Freeland pitched on short rest yesterday. So neither of them will pitch to start the series against the Brewers on Thursday. Also, the Brewers are white-hot right now and are playing probably the best ball in the national league. So I give them the edge. But I think Colorado has a chance if their pen can hold it together.
It's funny. I thought the Rockies had a good chance to win yesterday because Kyle Freeland had the ball. He's been great all season, had a sub-3 ERA pitching half of his games in Colorado, which almost never happens for Colorado pitchers. And he was particularly great in the 2nd half of the season, with a sub-2.5 ERA, but has been pretty much ignored by the national media. Yesterday, most of the major sports outlets were all picking the Cubs to win (ESPN, MLB, CBS all pretty much unanimous for Cubs). So I'm really happy the Rockies won, and I'm really happy that Kyle Freeland played a big part in making that happen.
Go Rox!
I live in Colorado -- I'm a Rockies fan. I've endured a lot of years of suck, so I'm really excited that they finally have a chance in a 5-game series.
Passive/Inconsistent Vick = KJ in starting lineup
Good Vick = Vick in starting lineup
I think Vick will start to begin the season. But if he has a season like his junior year, then he'll lose his starting spot to KJ probably. It's nice to have depth this season.
KJ led either team in points and only played 9 minutes!
But ya, this game didn't mean anything.
The two teams shot a combined 12/29 (about 41.4%) from 3.
KJ shot 3/4 from 3.
I underestimated Dedric's ability to rebound. He may be the best rebounder on the team actually.
Grimes and Dedric both had 3 assists. Dedric put the ball on the floor and had a really nice fadeaway jumpshot off of one foot. He's really good.
Grimes had a really nice bounce pass to Dedric on the baseline.
Mitch led the game with 19 minutes played. McCormack only played 9 minutes and didn't do much.
Agbaji and Elliot both looked decent.
And I'm not surprised that the red team won.
I was feeling generally good about my physique until I saw this picture.
If college basketball were a fighting contest I think KU would be preseason #1.
@FarmerJayhawk Why do you say UCLA?
I can't think of a comp either. Maybe Conner Teahan with better shooting and athleticism.
Andrew White?
