Day 4 Tournament Game Thread • Mar 19, 2017 11:57 PM

@approxinfinity Neither would disappoint me, and SCar will probably have home court advantage against Duke as well considering the game is in Greenville.

@Bwag I was poking around looking at the Arkansas roster this year and last. Noticed Kingsley is the only big in the top 8 that scores for them, this year and last. Wondering if they're running 4 out 1 in, and if Mick knew Kingsley was gonna take all the big minutes?

Mike Anderson is their coach, so it's probably a good guess they run a 4 and 1 line up like he did at Missouri.

KU put their foot on MSU's throat at the end and didn't let up.

Lucas and Swanigan is gonna be a great match up.

Last time we had a big lead in a tournament against a team from Michigan.....

Sorry, that's not going to happen this time because @DoubleDD is right, this is a team of destiny!

Also, we need to pay back Michigan in the Elite 8.

Clotheslining someone is legal, got it.

This is why Coleby should play over Bragg this tournament. Nothing flashy, just goes out, plays solid defense, rebounds, and gets easy putbacks when he can. He does his job much better than Bragg does.

Play Coleby, he at least doesn't play like he weighs 150 lbs.

Bragg is a p-word. You're 240 lbs., PLAY LIKE IT!

Josh's heel was definitely off the ground. I don't know what the wording on the rule is because that would matter. If it's over the line, then it's a good call, if it's on the line, then it's a bad call.

JJ hook is a dangerous weapon

@jaybate-1.0 Damn, you figured out my secret.

Did Svi just try and Grayson Allen someone?

@ParisHawk The police affidavit has been released so I'm not pulling stuff out of thin air. Calvert is the only one out of 3 people who have given statements claiming Jackson said he would beat her ass.

What's corroborated by all 3 is Calvert threw a drink in Vick's face, Jackson followed Calvert out and they had a shouting match with each other, and Jackson kicked Calvert's door and taillight.

Time to start earning Self his 3rd Big 10 title this year.

Day 4 Tournament Game Thread • Mar 19, 2017 07:41 PM

This is a WSU style game. UK is going to have to earn this one today.

Still bringing something up from 2 years ago is not no malice, all fiction. That's all malice, no fiction.

@Crimsonorblue22 I think it fits much better with Duke than UNC. I know a couple of Duke alums and they are among the most smug and arrogant people I know. I see a lot of that in Marshall as well. I think that's where a lot of tantums stem from, basically a "how dare you make a bad call against my team" type mentality that fits in perfectly with Duke.

@drgnslayr I also see a lot of arrogance in Marshall as well so I think he would play up that part of his personality if he were at a major program, especially a Duke type program where that's a part of their perception.

Bleacher Report says no Naismith for BIFM • Mar 19, 2017 06:30 PM

@drgnslayr Voting doesn't open until tomorrow

@drgnslayr If Duke or UNC are open in the next 2 years and they look outside of Coach K or Roy's trees, Marshall would be a contender partly because he's from the Carolina's. I do picture him fitting in better at Duke than UNC because of his personality.

@ralster Marshall is the same age as Self (54) so if he takes a top job, it needs to be in the next couple of years. NC State filled their vacancy with the UNC-Wilmington coach and Washington just hired Syracuse's coach in waiting. I gotta believe at this point that if Indiana can lure Alford home, Marshall is their second choice. If not, next year is supposed to be Jim Boehiem's final season so Syracuse should be open next year. We also never know when Coach K or Roy will have to retire and with Marshall's ties to the Carolina region, I'd have to imagine he'd be a coach of interest at both schools if either program goes outside the family to replace those two.

Josh Suspended For 1 Game • Mar 19, 2017 05:36 PM

@ParisHawk Josh didn't vervally berate Calvert. Calvert threw her drink at Vick, Josh called her out, and the Calvert and Jackson has verbal back and forth.

There's too many people ignoring the affidavit and making their own facts up. Based on the affidavit, there were 3 crimes committed that night that are corroborated by the 3 witnesses. Calvert committed battery when she threw her drink at Vick and that's tge incident that triggered the rest of the events. Jackson committed harassment when he followed Caovert outside and got into the shouting match with her, and Jackson committed property damage when kicked her car. The police only chose to pursue 1 of the 3 crimes committed that night and yet Calvert wants to complain about not getting equal treatment.

I'm not going to say that Calvert brought this on herself because Jackson was clearly in the wrong for damaging her vehicle, but by all accounts, Calvert was the instigator in this case and helped elevate the situation instead of just walking away.

Underwood to Illinois • Mar 19, 2017 03:43 PM

@ParisHawk Mike Gundy has threatened to leave multiple times including looking at the Baylor job because of OSU's AD being incompetent at his job.

Next recruit up • Mar 19, 2017 02:59 PM

@drgnslayr Back to back tournament appearances and won Big East tournament last year.

Underwood to Illinois • Mar 19, 2017 02:39 PM

@wissox Underwood leaving is not analogous to Bielema leaving Wisconsin. This situation is analogous to Frank Martin leaving KSU. This was not a money issue.

Day 3 Tournament Games • Mar 19, 2017 03:55 AM

ISU had no amswer for Swanigan, LL is good enough to disrupt Swanigan.

Underwood to Illinois • Mar 19, 2017 03:54 AM

@truehawk93 $1 mil/year for a guy in his 4th year as a D1 head coach isn't ridiculous. That's pretty much what he should have been earning given his achievements at SFA.

Underwood left OSU for the same reason Frank Martin left KSU amd it wasn't because of money, it was because of a bad relationship with the AD.

Underwood to Illinois • Mar 19, 2017 02:45 AM

@globaljaybird Money was not the issue with Underwood at OSU. http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/college/ct-brad-underwood-illinois-coach-spt-0319-20170318-story.html ↗

Only reason why Illinois would make Underwood one of the 10 highest paid coaches is to try and keep him away from KSU when that opens up next time Liberace misses the NCAA tournament. Next year will only be Underwood's 5th as a D1 HC. While he's been good, he's not worth a top 10 salary yet.

Day 3 Tournament Games • Mar 19, 2017 01:20 AM

Biggest shock of the tournament so far is what Xavier did to FSU today. Wisconsin still has core pieces from their title game team a couple of years ago so we know they're a good team capable of beating anyone. Xavier though was a team that played like crap down the stretch since Sumner went down, but they have looked like the top 10 team they were prior to the injury so far.

I also think Arizona got jobbed in getting St. Mary's as their 7 seed because St. Mary's was a top 20 team most of the year.

Underwood to Illinois • Mar 18, 2017 11:54 PM

@globaljaybird Last thing I would ever accuse OSU admins of is being cheapskates. They did offer Self $10 mil/year. They paid Underwood what his background said he was worth and probably would've extended him with a pay bump if he kept improving OSU. Money is not why he left OSU because OSU can compete with anyone when it comes to salaries.

KU Buckets Bracket Challenge! • Mar 18, 2017 10:32 PM

And one of my 2 brackets has now moved into 3rd place in the "west" bracket group. Thank you Wisconsin!

@BShark MSU was lights out against Miami. They haven't shown the ability to string consecutive games together this year though.

Josh Suspended For 1 Game • Mar 18, 2017 05:53 AM

@Crimsonorblue22 Based on the affidavit, after Calvert and her teammates got there, Vick allegedly kept intentionally looking at Calvert while dancing and making sure Calvert saw it, and I believe two of the three girls mention that. Vick did nothing illegal or criminal, but it sounds like he was showing off his new GF and rubbing it Calvert's face which is what set Calvert off.

Calvert's comment in why she threw a drink in his face was, "he knows why" fits that version of the story of Vick being an ass towards Calvert that night by flaunting his new relationship in front of her.

18-22 year olds can be very petty and I think Vick was being petty that night based on reading the affidavit and that's what set Calvert off that night.

Josh Suspended For 1 Game • Mar 18, 2017 04:45 AM

@Crimsonorblue22 I think the affidavit provides enough of a picture to figure what happened which is that Lagerald and Josh were out, Lagerald was there with his new GF and when Calvert and her teammates arrived and were noticed by Lagerald, he started rubbing his new GF in Calvert's face which ticked her off so at the end of the night, she threw a drink in his face as retaliation and then Josh did want to let it go. Basically, it was 3 people (Calvert, Jackson, and Vick) being immature about the Calvert/Vick break up and is something that is a fairly common sight when you have kids and alcohol mixed together. It really isn't the big deal that the media has been making it out to be and Calvert's dad really is the only reason this story is still going.

Josh Suspended For 1 Game • Mar 18, 2017 03:43 AM

@kjayhawks Technically what Josh Jackson did could be classified as harassment which is illegal. I'm assuming jail time isn't a penalty, but probably a fine, probation, and anger management or stuff along those lines is probably the common punishment.

KU Buckets Bracket Challenge! • Mar 18, 2017 03:38 AM

Tonight was probably the best game Michigan St. has played all year. There were only 2 categories where they had a significant advantage tonight and that was FG% and rebounding. 57% from the field and +13 on rebounds are the only categories where Sparty had a significant advantage so I think KU should be able to handle them. There's a reason why Sparty lost 14 games this season and it's because they're a shell of their normal selves. If KU plays their normal game and MSU plays their normal game, KU will win. It would take a repeat of tonight's performance for Sparty for them to win.
