Josh Suspended For 1 Game • Mar 17, 2017 10:31 PM

Here's what has been said by the 3 female players that line up so I'm inclined to believe these parts. Vick was at Yatch Club with Jackson and some girls (his new GF), and as Calvert and her friends were leaving, she went up and threw a drink in Vick's face and left. Jackson followed after them and Calvert and Jackson were chirping at one another. They were still chirping at each other as Calvert tried to back up. Jackson then kicked her door and broke the tail light That much has been corroborated by all parties involved so that is what I'm willing to believe since there's multiple witnesses with the same basic story and is 90 of the story.

The other 10% is Jackson threatening to "beat her ass" and Calvert is the only one who said that. Neither of the other two girls involved mentioned that so unless Jackson said it very quietly, and that doesn't line up with everything else out there, I'm not too inclined to believe that part of the story.

Here's what I think happened based on what's out there. Vick and Jackson, along with Vick's new girlfriend go to Yatch Club, later in the night, Calvert, and two of her teammates decide to go there as where, probably not aware that Vick is there with his new GF. When the girls get to Yatch Club, Calvert sees Vick with his new GF, Vick sees her and starts rubbing it in/taunting Calvert. This pisses Calvert off and as she's leaving, she decides to do something about it and throws a drink in Vick's face. Vick was probably going to let it slide because he had made his point already. Jackson decided he wasn't going to let it slide so he follows Calvert outside and he and Calvert get into it verbally. Manning-Allen is trying to calm Jackson down while Calvert's roommate is trying to get Calvert out of there.

I think Jackson and Calvert are equally at fault for this situation because they're both pretty hot headed individuals. Vick was being an ass that night to Calvert showing off woth his new GF with her watching and Calvert's teammates did nothing wrong as they were trying to keep two combustible people apart as best they could.

I think the situation was handled about as well as it could have been by the outside parties involved. The stories pretty much confirm Jackson messed up the driver's door and taillights while other did the rest of the damage to Calvert's car.

Calvert is lucky Vick chose not to press charges against her for throwing the drink in his face, amd Calvert's dad just needs to shut the hell up.

@drgnslayr I have a feeling Marshall would have no problem playing the arrogant we're vetter than you card at Indiana if he were to go there which would play into their alumni mentality as well.

Day 2 Tournament Thread • Mar 17, 2017 08:59 PM

@JayHawkFanToo It was a flagrant because there was no play on the ball which is a black and white rule.

@drgnslayr Marshall doesn’t play the underdog card at WSU, he plays the disrespected, chip on his shoulder card which works anywhere.

We've talked about that in regards to KU on multiple occasions, including this year with all the media attention and KCStar witch hunt.

The mentality Marshall has taken is not the underdog card.

Again, he is the coach at Wichita State and it is his job to promote the program...I am curious, what exactly would you expect him to say instead?

This is the comment I'm responding to which has absolutely nothing to do with whether or not the man is a good coach. You asked if there was another way he could promote WSU, and the evidence being presented at that point was in regrads to Marshall trying to restart the KU series so that's the example I went with.

All my point was is that the way Marshall is trying to restart that series by being a disrespectful dick to KU on the issue to try and bully Self into scheduling a series has no chance of working and KU not even interested in listening. All I did was provide an example of how Marshall could've taken a more respectful approach and that probably at least gets a meeting to explore the possibility of restarting the series.

Notice how nowhere in any of my posts did I say that approach would be guaranteed to restart the series, just that approach would probably make KU at least willing to listen.

How you spun me calling Marshall a dick into meaning he's a bad coach is something I can't figure out because my opinion of Marshall has nothing to do with the discussion.

@JayHawkFanToo You asked if there was another way Marshall could promote WSU other than how he has. I used the way he's trying to get the KU series going again as the example because there's plenty of comments by Marshall on the matter out there and he comes across like a disrespectful dick in those comments. He could very easily have taken the high road by using a similar tone and message to what I said of being complimentary of KU and wanting restart the series as a measuring stick for WSU instead of the path he chose. Does being complimentary of KU guarantee the series would've been restarted? Absolutely not, but I do guarantee Self and KU would be a lot more willing to consider it if Marshall had taken that approach.

@wissox A girl fight is the one thing I refuse to break up at my school. I've dealt with two of them in the hallways this year and my focus was protecting the other students and let the police and administration deal with breaking up the fight. I'm 6-5 about 270 lbs. and I refuse to get in the middle of girl fights because there is no stopping them. When guys fight, there's at least some semblance of strategy, but a girl fight is just grabbing, punching, pulling, or kicking anything within reach. There is no logic involved in a girl fight.

@JayHawkFanToo There's a lot classier ways to go about promoting your program than the way Marshall has chosen to promote WSU.

He very easily could've said in regards to trying to play KU that KU is the standard bearer and he'd like to see how his program stacks up against one of the best. The series ended because it got uncompetitive, but I think we can make it competitive again and it's up to Bill self to decide if he wants to renew that series because we're ready.

Same message about wanting to challenge, but doesn't sound very dickish to me.

They got hot at the beginning of February. They've won 10 of 12 entering today.

@Kcmatt7 3 guys pushing each other is only going to make them all better. Returning a young OLine mostly in tact while adding Baldwin is going to give KU a much improved OLine. Charlot gives KU a legit 3rd weapon so teams can't run cover 2 all day to slow down Sims and Quiv. This is the year we see the offense begin to take significant steps forward.

I'm not quite ready to call for a bowl bid yet, I think that's next year, but I think KU getting bowl eligible this year is more likely than only winning 1 or 2 games is as well. I think KU wins 4 or 5 this year.

Anyone Else • Mar 17, 2017 05:56 PM

@BeddieKU23 Michigan was playing really good before the B10 tournament started. 6-2 in tgeir last 8 regular season games including wins over MSU, Wisconsin, and Purdue. Their 2 losses were an OT loss at Minnesota and a 2 point loss at Northwestern which are not bad losses. They entered today winning 10 of 12 including 6 wins over tournament teams.

So Vandy is a 9 seed and Minnesota is a 5, but KState barely gets in and OK State is a 10? Give me a break. People whining about WSU being a 10 when OSU beat them by 17 earlier this season. OK State should be a 6 or a 7.

OSU was garbage the first half of the season. A 6 or 7 seed implies they're viewed as a top 25 team which they are not. Same reason why people bitching about the 5th place team in the ACC getting a 1 seed makes no sense or the 3rd place team in the PAC 12 makes getting a 1 seed makes no sense.

I know people were bitching about UNC getting a 1 seed, but they won their conference outright and that conference happens to be the best league in basketball.

@HighEliteMajor And the tone of that reply was necessary because?

Nice article about our bama transfers • Mar 17, 2017 05:43 PM

@BShark Baylor's was worse. They were playing a RB as QB at the end of the year because they ran out of QB's by the end of the season.

@jaybate-1.0 Probably about the same as he did at Winthrop which was pretty damn good for a low major program.

@BShark They did not win. If you want mid majors in the Final Four since the field expanded, you've got 4 appearances out of 128 spots. So what sounds easier, a power conference program where 124 out of the last 128 Final Four teams have come from or a mid major where 4 out of the last 128 have made tge Final Four. I know which path I would take.

@HighEliteMajor said:

That schedule is hilarious .. from Jan. 4 forward, they never left California, except for one trip to Hawaii.

They are in the Big West which is all Cali schools except for Hawaii.

Nice article about our bama transfers • Mar 17, 2017 02:12 PM

@Kcmatt7 We have 3 QB's that fit the Air Raid. The down side of Stanley winning the job is that he doesn't have a big arm so the vertical passing game won't be as effective as it could be if Bender or Starks win the job.

@nuleafjhawk If that ends up being his mentality, Marshall will regret that decison down the raod when the what if's start entering his mind.

@bskeet said:

I know there is this perception floating around that only major conferences can win the title, but what is the logic behind that?

Very simple, go look at the list of national title winners and tell me the last time a mid major won.

@kjayhawks He'd also never have a real shot at a national title at WSU. Indiana is a place where you can win national titles at and if that's not a coach's eventual goal, then why are they coaching?

If Marshall is offered the IU job and turns it down, he's admitting he's not good enough to win a national title.

@Crimsonorblue22 He's from South Carolina so that's probably the reason why he'd be interested in NC State, but I have a hard time picturing him there where NC State will always be the #3 school on Tobacco Road.

He could definitely keep the underdog amd disrespect cards there though. I don't know if NC State would pay as much as he's making now though.

I think if he has a choice, I think he takes Indiana and goes chases the rings which is much easier at Indiana than NC State.

@drgnslayr Indiana is a caliber of program that if they call, you pick up the phone and listen to what they have to offer. IU is a top 10 job and those don't come available very often. If Marshall doesn’t get or take this job, I would bet money that he retires from Wichita St.

Look • Mar 17, 2017 01:21 AM

He dunked with his good hand. His left is the messed up one. No harm in showing off for the fans like this.

If I'm Indiana, my first phone call is Gregg Marshall's agent. Marshall isn't leaving Wichita for some random program, but we all know Indiana isn't a random program. This is a top 10 all time program (probably 6) and a place you can contend for and win national titles at pretty quickly. IU is also one of the Power Conference programs where basketball takes priority over football so Marshall would be the top dog at Indiana. This will be the best job offer Gregg Marshall could be considered for so if he's going to leave Wichita, this is the job he'll leave for.

They're 16 seeds, I don't care who we face on Friday.

Cuonzo Martin • Mar 15, 2017 09:08 PM

Cuonzo Martin is a lateral job hopper. Tennessee, Cal, and Missouri are all comparable programs and he's voluntarily left for two of them. He'll be gone from Missouri pretty soon as well.

Cuonzo Martin • Mar 15, 2017 09:06 PM

@wissox Do you also remember Cuonzo Martin shooting KU out of the 1994 NCAA tournament with a still standing Purdue record of 8 made 3's in a game?

Let the firings begin • Mar 15, 2017 09:04 PM

Missouri is in the process if finalizing a 7 year deal with Cuonzo Martin. Bad hire for Missouri because Martin is a job hopper and not an upward job hopper. He's laterally job hopping which implies to me that Martin is not an easy man to deal with.

I also didn't realize Cuonzo Martin is the guy who shot KU out of the 1994 tournament when he played at Purdue.

@JayHawkFanToo said:

@mayjay

Yes and I believe Texas does that the same thing now.

I remember when Nebraska fans used to come to Lawrence for football since it was the only way they could watch their team live.

UT did it for one year when Steve Patterson was AD. There were still a bunch of KU fans there that year because there were a bunch of tickets on the secondary market. I think that was either 2013 or 2014, but that lasted only for one year.

Schedule • Mar 14, 2017 07:53 PM

Announcers are assigned to locations, not channels. That means that Harlan, Miller, Bonner, and Jacobson will be working all 6 games Friday and Sunday in Tulsa. The only consistency with which network airs a game is that both games in a session at a venue will be on the same network. While Kevin Harlan, Reggie Miller, Matt Bonner, and Dana Jacobson will be the crew for all 6 games in Tulsa (4 on Friday, 2 on Sunday), Not all 6 games will be on the same channels. The Friday afternoon games in Tulsa (Baylor and SMU games) will be on TruTV, while the night games (KU and Miami/MSU) will be on TNT.

Let the firings begin • Mar 14, 2017 07:41 PM

@justanotherfan Bill Self has said multiple times in the past that he would like to retire sometime around 60. That puts his window in the 5-7 year range if he follows through on retiring around 60. If that's the case, Jerod Haase will be in his late 40's. I don't see him as a UNC candidate because I think Roy has 1-2 years left and I don't think that's enough time for Haase to turn Stanford around enough to prove he can handle the UNC job. 5-7 years which is the window Self has indicated is not enough time for Aaron Miles to build a resume worthy or taking over KU.

A non KU related name to keep an eye on is going to be Archie Miller. He's taken Dayton to 4 straight NCAA tournaments and is primed to get a big time major conference job in the next year or 2 which would be enough time to prove if he could handle a job like KU.

I also believe that the 5-7 year window means Self's successor is more than likely already a college HC with a track record of success. In the end, I think Jerod Haase is going to prove himself to be the guy that follows Self at KU.

1st Round Upsets • Mar 14, 2017 05:01 PM

I would have no issues in principle with KSU and WSU playing each other since that means they would've eliminated Kentucky and UCLA along the way to get to a meeting and I'm all for dangerous teams like that going down early.

Let the firings begin • Mar 14, 2017 03:22 PM

@justanotherfan Aaron Miles is probably 10 years minimum away from being ready to be a HC at a place like KU and probably closer to 15 years away from being ready. Self's probably not coaching that long. To be perfectly honest, Jerod Haase is the only active coach with KU ties that would be a realistic choice that could be ready to take over KU in the next 5-10 years that's young enough to stay at KU for 15-20 years. Joe Dooley and Danny Manning are both improving their coaching stock, but both are about the same age as Self and if Self is around another 5-10 years or longer, neither would make sense for KU because of their age and it would be a Bill Guthridge taking over for Dean Smith type situation.

@stoptheflop KU has a new OC which means there will be new elements added to the offense. Closing practices makes it harder for those new elements to be seen by future opponents until KU run them in games.

I'm Happy With This Season IF........ • Mar 13, 2017 10:25 PM

I'm happy with this season if KU ends the year on a 6 game winning streak. Anything else will be a disappointment like it is every season.

NCAA Favorite • Mar 13, 2017 10:12 PM

@jayballer54 Quit paying attention to ESPN. None of them give flip about KU.

According to how the NCAA seeded this tournament, KU has the weakest 2, 4, 5, 6, and second weakest 7 and 9 seeds.

Villanova is the 1 seed in the most danger of not getting out of the weekend, especially if they end up playing Wisconsin in the second round because Wisconsin may not be as good as previous years, but they still have a ton of experience and and play pretty good team defense. They won't be intimidated by Villanova at all.

I read spring practice got pushed back a day so today is the first day. I think these are generally closed practices to the public so Keegan and Tait are probably going to be the best sources of info.

Keegan also had a talk with Montell Cozart about the future of KU football. Cozart is really high on Peyton Bender and Daylon Charlot. Cozart mentioned some of the schools that have contacted him about his final year and they include Fresno St. and New Mexico at the FBS level and probably the best offer overall he has received is from North Dakota St. at the FCS level. He also has some offers from some D2 programs as well. I think it would be very cool if he continued the legacy of NDSU and got them another title.

NCAA Favorite • Mar 13, 2017 01:47 PM

@BeddieKU23 Duke had not been the favorite, that's happened in the last 12 hours. Before the brackets were revealed, UNC had been around 5/1, KU and Kentucky had been around 7/1 and Duke had been around 10/1 and bettering their odds with each ACC Tournament win.

NCAA Favorite • Mar 13, 2017 01:38 PM

@BeddieKU23 I think you have Duke and UNC flipped. Duke's odds have gotten better because of their ACC tournament run, but it was UNC as the betting favorite for awhile.

I know KU has been pretty consistent with their odds throughout the year. I put $20 on KU to win when I was in Vegas and KU was 6.5/1 to win.

NCAA Favorite • Mar 13, 2017 01:00 PM

@BeddieKU23 Really? Every time I've seen them post the odds, North Carolina was the betting favorite. I don't know if that's changed as of this morning, but as of last night, it had been UNC.

Bracket Reveal chat. Sneak preview • Mar 13, 2017 03:58 AM

Based on true seeds, KU has the easiest path to the Final Four. Louisville is the weakest 2 seed (8th overall), Purdue is the weakest 4 seed (16th overall), Iowa St. is the weakest 5 seed (20th overall), Creighton is the weakest 6 seed (24th overall), Michigan is the 2nd weakest 7 seed (27th overall), and Michigan St. is the 2nd weakest 9 seed (37th overall).

Oregon is the strongest 3 seed (9th overall), but the reality is they're probably the weakest 3 seed with Chris Boucher's injury factored in. Miami is the 2nd strongest 8 seed (30th overall), but they're one of the most offensively challenged teams in the field.

So according to the NCAA Selection Committee, we have the weakest 2, 4, 5, and 6 seeds and the 2nd weakest 7 and 9 seeds.

@KUSTEVE Here's why I'm not very concerned with either Miami or Michigan St. this year, neither team can score this year. Both teams are sub 200 in scoring offense. KU just needs to reach 65 against either team and they win.

TREMONT WATERS BACK IN PLAY • Mar 13, 2017 12:30 AM

@jaybate-1.0 I think Academic All-Americans would be a poor way to compare schools because I believe there's a set standard GPA (not sure what it is) and schools with more rigorous classes probably aren't going to produce as many Academic AA's even if they're getting a higher quality education than a random state school with easier classes that produce higher GPA's.
