Time to bring Tyler back in.

Senior Night vs OU • Feb 28, 2017 04:01 AM

Lon better try and see if he can get Woodard a medical redshirt.

Senior Night vs OU • Feb 28, 2017 03:57 AM

OU cannot stop KU's momentum right now. This is where you call a timeout if you had one.

Senior Night vs OU • Feb 28, 2017 03:55 AM

OU is done.

Senior Night vs OU • Feb 28, 2017 03:47 AM

Crowds taking over now.

Senior Night vs OU • Feb 28, 2017 03:31 AM

That was embarrassing for Bragg

Senior Night vs OU • Feb 28, 2017 03:24 AM

I hate that mid range fadeaway no matter who takes it. Least efficient shot in basketball.

Senior Night vs OU • Feb 28, 2017 03:23 AM

@wissox Said at beginning of the broadcast KU has won 33 straight Senior Night/home finales.

Worst half this year?

Depends on this half.

Senior Night vs OU • Feb 28, 2017 03:02 AM

That was not an aesthetically pleasing half of basketball.

Senior Night vs OU • Feb 28, 2017 02:54 AM

Does Josh have smaller than average hands?

Senior Night vs OU • Feb 28, 2017 02:39 AM

@approxinfinity Don't think it works that way and I don't want him even if he plays a position of need for KU. Not worth it considering the off court issues KU has had this year.

Senior Night vs OU • Feb 28, 2017 02:36 AM

Tevin Mack got kicked off UT today apparently.

HC Openings for Our KU Assistants • Feb 28, 2017 02:31 AM

Marshall has turned down better jobs than NC State, he's not leaving Wichita to be #3 on Tobacco Road. Norm had a shot at St. John's and it didn't go too well so I doubt he would get a better offer than St. John's if he gets another HC opportunity. Townsend's age will keep him from any P5 caliber job. Howard would be the only one who might leave KU in the near future, and he is an Illinois alum so there's always a chance, but Illinois has a history of hiring mid major coaches and not P5 assistants.

Bracketology • Feb 27, 2017 05:50 PM

@Kcmatt7 No PAC 12 team is getting a 1 seed without a second Gonzaga loss.

Bracketology • Feb 27, 2017 05:50 PM

@HawkChamp Never said they were the overall 1 seed, just the loss cost them any shot at it.

Bracketology • Feb 27, 2017 05:37 PM

A team that's creeping into the mix as an 8/9 seed is Michigan St. That should scare a lot of people because Izzo has historically had Self's number. I don't care if this is theor worst team in a long time, MSU would be a nightmare draw for KU.

It's also looking like we may see 3 PAC 12 teams on the 2 line this year which means one of them would end up in the Midwest. The Gonzaga loss didn't cost them a 1 seed, it cost them a shot at the overall 1 seed. They would still have to lose again in the WCC tournament to fall off the 1 line.

UCLA is the one team out of those 4 who worries me the most because they're the best offensive team in the country and Lonzo Ball is a match up headache for KU.

Arizona can't win the big ones and Oregon is still a really good team with deep tournament experience. The PAC 12 tournament is one worth keeping an eye one this year especially for the semifinal games

Happy, Happy, Joy, Joy! • Feb 27, 2017 05:24 PM

@BeddieKU23 Shaka isn't setting UT back 30+ years. Did Self set KU back 15 years when KU lost 19 games in 2 years which was KU's worst run since the turn of the century?

Late report from Austin • Feb 27, 2017 04:00 AM

I think we already have a pretty good picture of what happened based on what's come out from the parties involved. Self has said he was made aware of the situation in December when the police report was filed and handled the matter internally then, there's little evidence in Self's history to doubt this and he probably does know much more about this situation than we do.

Happy, Happy, Joy, Joy! • Feb 27, 2017 03:02 AM

@ralster Rick Barnes should've been fired way before he was because UT had veen slipping ever since Durant left. Barnes should've been fired around 2012, but got 4-5 more years because of the apathy surrounding basketball there. 2007-08 when they shared the Big 12 was the last time they played to expectations and also the last time Barnes made it past the first weekend of the NCAA tournament.

People were screaming for blood after Self got eliminated in the 1st round twice in a row, UT went 6 straight appearances (along with missing the tournament all together one year) wothout getting past the weekend. No coach at KU survives that level of performance that long.

It's Official - KU #1 • Feb 26, 2017 11:49 PM

http://assemblycall.com/ncaa-tournament-bracket-projections-feb-21-2017/ ↗ This is the guy who has been rated as the top bracketologist for the past few years and I'd take this path as well. Miami and USC as the 8/9, UCLA and Notre Dame as the 4/5, and Louisville and Kentucky as the 2/3 seeds. If we got UK and Louisville as our 2/3, whoever won that won would probably be pretty mentally drained from playing that game again this year. This was last updated on Feb. 21 and UCLA has beaten Arizona in Tucson since then so I would imagine UCLA is probably in the driver's seat for a 2 seed right now and possibly even the West's 1 seed if Gonzaga slips up in the WCC tournament.

It's Official - KU #1 • Feb 26, 2017 11:34 PM

Just give KU a path through Tulsa and KC. I like CBS's current projection for KU's path although I realize CBS is definitely not the most accurate. SCar/Xavier as our 8/9 (A Frank Martin match up would be fun), Cincy/Purdue as our 4/5 seed, and Arizona/FSU as our 2/3 seeds. I'd like KU's chances with that path. FSU would still be a match up issue, but they're struggling pretty badly right now.

@BeddieKU23 The TX crowd has only been beat down in their expectations by the downward trend of this year's team. Hey, they are fans like any other fans, with a few early wins over top opponents, they could have had Erwin a lot more energized. People pay money to go see their team play. You get tired of seeing not only losses, but lackluster effort levels, lack of poise, and signs of poor coaching, such as shot-clock awareness, etc. TX had several very ugly possessions, right there at home.

So especially if you are a diehard Longhorn fan, looking for signs of life, or even positivity about your own team, it is hard to maintain upbeat energy when you dont see it.

Let the TX fans and the TX AD judge all the things that must be judged about TX basketball. I dont think Shaka gets fired, as its too soon. But next year will be a big test, likely without J.Allen.

And, since no AD judges things in a vacuum, the other 2 TX teams are not helping Shaka's cause at all, since both TCU and TxTech have 1st year coaches and have provided memorable games, close finishes, although neither will make Big68 Tourney, the vibe and feel coming out of those programs is TOTALLY different than the stagnant feel that TX gave their own home crowd last night, and really ever since mid-January. Beard and Dixon are making Shaka look bad. Its all relative. He's a small fish in a Big12 pond, getting exposed. This is not good for the Longhorn Network. How are they going to sell sponsorship and TV ads for Longhorn games nobody wants to watch. The business side of Longhorn Athletics is getting sticky...

UT fans and administration don't give a crap about basketball period. Even during their peak run under Barnes in the 2000's they were never selling out Erwin unless it was KU or UNC or some other national brand and opposing fans filled up the arena. Erwin is bigger than AFH, but UT has never led the league in attendance. Right now, all UT cares about is Tom Herman getting UT football back on top which is something the Big 12 desperately needs right now. The Big 12's downturn in football and as a conference coincides with UT's decline in football.

UT is trying to find a site to build a new basketball arena right now so the site Erwin sits on can be turned into the new nursing school. They've already done a lot of construction around the area, but the new arena is the final piece of the puzzle. UT's administration won't care about basketball until their new arena is built, but Texas fans just don't care about basketball, never have and never will.

Sc Maurice king • Feb 26, 2017 06:25 PM

@BShark SportsCenter did a feature on Baylor's Ish Wainwright who is the grandson of Maurice King, the first African-American player in Kansas history and how King's legacy has impacted Wainwright. He now has King-Wainwright on the back of his jersey as part of that legacy.

Shaka has never had to rebuild a program before. He inherited VCU from Anthony Grant along with that style of play. He's in his 2nd year at Texas, rebuilds don't happen overnight even for coaches who do them regularly. They're probably losing Allen and Cleare and Yancy are graduating, they return everyone else so they'll be better next year.

Shaka has until theor new arena is completed to do something and with as long as that's taking, he'll be in Austin for awhile

Burnt Orange Predictions • Feb 26, 2017 04:41 AM

@truehawk93 KU clinched the outright title today with their win. KU is 3 up in WVU and ISU woth 2 to play so no chamce of being caught even if KU got swept next week.

Happy, Happy, Joy, Joy! • Feb 26, 2017 04:38 AM

If Coleby can consistently provide 10 or so minutes, that would be huge for the guards to get them some rest if Self plays him at the 4 next to Lucas some like he did today. Getting a 3rd big into the mix would be huge for KU in March.

Bracketology • Feb 26, 2017 04:32 AM

@BShark Clemson, who was 4-11 in ACC play entering today was still a bubble team, so yes, the bubble is weak this year. This may very well be the weakest bubble ever where there are several at large teams that finish with losing conference records.

Bracketology • Feb 26, 2017 04:29 AM

@Hawk8086 B10 teams wouldn't be in the 8/9 and 4/5 of a region because conference teams are supposed to he on opposite sides of a region unless there are 9+ teams from a league in the field which isn't happening anytime soon.

Tejas Game Thread • Feb 26, 2017 04:25 AM

@Crimsonorblue22 I thought KU played well overall. Svi's defense was better today. I think this team is beginning to peak right now which is a good thing obviously.

Tejas Game Thread • Feb 26, 2017 03:19 AM

Blame UT football coach Tom Herman for topless Bill Walton today. Herman gave Walton the "Keep Austin Weird" shirt.

Non-KU games • Feb 25, 2017 10:55 PM

Erwin isn't even half full yet with 4 minutes to tip. More blue than orange in here today.

Burnt Orange Predictions • Feb 25, 2017 01:48 PM

My prediction is that KU finally gets to .500 (4-4) when I see them in person in Austin today. And KU really did lose the first 4 times I saw them in person in Austin.

Walton and Pasch • Feb 24, 2017 10:45 PM

@nuleafjhawk There will be more KU fans than that there. This will be one of the few games UT sells out, or at least comes close to selling out because of the KU alums driving in from Dallas and Houston along with the ones who live in Austin.

Walton and Pasch • Feb 24, 2017 05:07 PM

I enjoy Walton's stories if it's a game I have no interest in which is any PAC 12 game not involving Arizona, Oregon, and UCLA. When I want to hear a game though, not so much.

The only broadcaster I'm listening to on Saturday is UT's PA announcer inside the arena.

AND THIS IS WHY SVI WILL BE BACK • Feb 24, 2017 01:37 PM

Graham will be back if he cares about maximizing his draft stock. He's never been more than the third option and second PG at KU which has made him a second round prospect now. Unlike Selden, Graham has room to grow his draft stock next year. Graham will be the lead guard running the show so he'll be able to fully show off his PG skills. He could end up anywhere from the 1st to 3rd scoring option depending on Newman and Bragg, but the trade off for not being the top scoring option is that his assist numbers would go up. Graham is capable of averaging 7-8 apg which is Aaron Miles territory if Newman and Bragg handle the scoring load.

Bottom line, Graham has not peaked his draft stock yet beacuse he could climb to be a mid to late 1st round pick next year instead of a 2nd rounder that he would be next year.

Espn is neat. • Feb 24, 2017 01:29 PM

@ParisHawk I view UCLA and Duke in pretty much the same way. 95% of UCLA's basketball history is tied to a 15 year window in the 60's and 70's. That 15 year run is the single greatest run of dominance in major college sports history, but there's just not a lot else outside of that window. The 1995 title and Howland's run in the 2000's is all they have outside of that.

95% Duke's history is tied exclusively to Coach K. They had Final Four teams before him, and we'll see how they fare after Coach K retires, but Coach K is essentially Duke basketball just like Wooden is essentially UCLA basketball.

Using the analogy of a neighborhood, UCLA and Duke have houses on the same street as KU, UK, and UNC, just at the other end of the street.

Espn is neat. • Feb 24, 2017 02:23 AM

Kansas, Kentucky, and North Carolina are the 3 true blue bloods of college basketball. Duke is on the same street because they were a successful program with multiple Final Four's in their pre-Coach K history, but no titles so they don't have that prestige. Duke is on the second tier with Indiana and UCLA. These are the programs whose history is almost exclusively tied to a single coach over a long period of time. The third tier to me would be programs like UConn, Arizona, Syracuse, Georgetown, Louisville, Villanova, and Michigan St. These are programs with national titles in their history, but not necessarily the consistency or volume of titles of the top 2 tiers of teams, teams that have been consistently good for a long time, but lack the volume of titles of other programs.

NEED YOUR HELP BUCKETEERS • Feb 23, 2017 11:29 PM

@RockChalkinTexas I think I'm in section 61. I know it's upper level because that's all that was left at the time. I'm not sure yet what time I'll get into Austin because I'm not going to drive up Friday night after work. I've done the party at Scholz before, not sure if I'll make it this year or not.
