@Texas-Hawk-10 Interesting about Mangino. My impression up to this point was he was just a victim of modern day political correctness that can't handle a macho coach being physical with a player or two, but who truly loves that player at the same time. There was a HS coach in Madison who was highly successful, put numerous players in the NFL and slapped a guy on the helmet during a game which many fans and parents saw and forced the guy out. That's the type of thing that I though Mangino was bing forced out by.

The finger poke to Arist Wright was the straw that broke the camel's back with the team. There's another incident where he told a black player that did something he didn't like to go back to streets like your brother. There's numerous stories involving his conduct towards campus staff that was abusive, especially campus security. He was also ejected from his son's football game for berating the the refs.

There's a reason why other schools weren't calling even after the Orange Bowl and why it took him so long to get another coaching job and why he couldn't last in those jobs either.

There were definitely politics involved as Mangino and Perkins absolutely hated each other and Perkins actually wanted to fire Mangino after the 2006 season where KU lost 4 games late and could've easily been 10-2 that season, but was eventually talked into giving Mangino one more season and Mangino delivered the Orange Bowl season.

Mangino was just an asshole.

That's your opinion - -and your entitled - - there are assholes every where- -then you have perfect assholes right ?- -oh he POKED oh hell no - -don't be poking my baby - - , and heberated the refs - -wow there is a new one - -berate the official. - Have you seen Coach Self eve be-rate a ref ? -surely not. Mangino sticking up for his son's team thiking bad calls which probably was just like Coach Self sticks up for his guys when he thinks they are getting screwed over.

You know funny the multiple times I talke with Mangino seemed like he was just fine, not abusive with me, didn't be rate me - -hmmm imagine that , he must of been having an off night that night that asshole

@jayballer67 No, @TYOHawk made his comment about KU's potential backcourt in 2024-25 including Bethea, Harris, Jackson, and Morris and I replied don't be surprised is Jackson isn't in that group because he is a projected to be a 1st round pick in the 2024 NBA Draft by a lot of projection sites.

That doesn't mean he won't play at KU this upcoming season. Most projection sites have him in the back half of the 1st round which means Jackson does have work to do this season to validate that spot. It doesn't mean Jackson will for sure be OAD, but it does mean he's on the NBA's radar and will be one of the primary reasons NBA scouts are coming to KU games this season.

@Texas-Hawk-10 you are younger than me lol. I’ve met several of the players over the years just being in town from time to time. Mitch Lightfoot came and said hi to me and my family at Jefferson’s downtown one summer. I also said just a hello to Devonte there. Had a beer with Tarik Black BWW down town after a game. The rest of the guys I met while my niece and nephew were getting autographs after the game. Sat next to Kirk Hinrich folks I think at the same game I met Tarik one time. Ran into Sherron several times at games.

My senior year, I lived in the Towers when that was still where the basketball team lived. I lived next door to Thomas Robinson and Elijah Johnson when they were freshmen. The Morris twins were at the other end of the floor and Mario Little and I don't remember who his roommate was that year were in the middle of the floor. There were also some members of women's basketball team on the floor as well, but I don't remember which ones. I was on a first name basis with most of the team that year. I don't really consider those to be encounters because that was everyday life for me during my senior year. I will tell you that playing beer pong against basketball players is an experience and not a great one if you're trying to win, but it was fun. Just about everyone I interacted with on that team was very cool and down to earth, with one exception, CJ Henry. His brother was awesome and caught way more crap than he deserved because he was the first OAD at KU and people tried blaming him for chemistry issues within the team. KU was the title favorites entering the tournament and had only lost 2 games all season to that point amd then the UNI disaster happened and Xavier was thrown under the bus by so many people after that game.

I also became friends with someone on the football team that I shared a class with and got here all about the Mangino situation and has strongly shaped my opinion on that matter which is Lew Perkins arrived at the right decision by firing Mangino, but handled that scandle in about the worst way possible. Basically, if Mangino wasn't fired, there was going to be a mass exodus of players after the 2009 season because very few kids wanted to play for Mangino anymore and I think that was pretty evident in how basically nobody within the football program was publicly defending Mangino and how lackluster the team was down the stretch in losing their last 7 games. I was told that the team had pretty much quit on Mangino by that point.

Don't be shocked if Elmarko isn't here next season.

Based on 2024 mock drafts, there's a decent chance Elmarko isn't at KU next season.

Northwestern Hazing Issues • Jul 10, 2023 11:05 PM

Northwestern has just announced that they have fired Pat Fitzgerald over this issue of hazing within the Northwestern football program.

Normally, I would post this in the General Discussion chat as it isn't specifically a KU football issue. I'm posting here though because I'm wondering if someone with more connections could explain if current KU Athletic Director Travis Goff could get dragged I to this at some point due to him being an Athletic Director at Northwestern prior to coming to KU.

I doubt Goff will be dragged into this as his role at Northwestern was basically overseeing the fundraising and renovations/construction of new facilities for Northwestern.

Considering what we just went through with football a couple of years ago with Les Miles and Jeff Long, this is something that definitely caught my attention because of Goff's previous ties to Northwestern while these events were happening.

UConn just fought the AAC pretty hard to leave and go back to the Big East and make their football program independent to help cut down on travel for its athletic programs. Their uncompetitive football program was a driving force in the conversation along with getting their basketball program back into a power conference.

I also can't see Big 12 presidents and AD'S being on board with UConn football joining because that is an albatross of a program and will devalue the conferences TV rights.

If Yormark wants to bring UConn in as basketball only, I think most Big 12 schools could be talked into that. The issue there would be UConn's other athletic programs because I doubt the Big East would house all of UConn's olympic sports. If UConn were to join the B12, their closest conference opponent would be over 500 miles away which is a bigger deal on the East Coast, especially in the Northeast, compared Midwest because everything is much more compact in that region.

Yormark may want UConn, but I just don't see that working out in the end. I think he'd be better off focusing on trying to convince Arizona St. and Utah to follow Arizona and Colorado. Or work on trying to get a couple of disgruntled ACC programs out of their GoR to get to 16 and have some partner schools for UCF since UCF is about 900 miles from any other B12 school.

@Woodrow 34.5 on 427 yards. Which would be a tick lower than last year. Unlikely IMO. 10 starters back plus almost all reserves and an improved kicking game could push us closer to 40

KU was a top 25 offense last season (both ppg and ypg were top 25) with Daniels missing several games. If he stays healthy all year, combined with basically everyone back, pushing to be a top 10-15 offense should be a realistic possibility this season.

Celebrity Encounters at KU • Jul 07, 2023 10:34 PM

I realize not everyone here attended KU, but a lot of did and a lot of famous people have connections to KU either directly or indirectly.

KU's Facebook page shared this story today from back in 2009 about Taylor Swift visiting KU for a day because on of her closest friends was on the swim team then.

https://www.kansan.com/news/taylor-swift-visits-university/article_8f1ec9a2-b47d-5b3c-992d-ef84dff4ac1c.html?fbclid=IwAR1KBDAWFLZcAnLoJhOVhbHW1kxXOCwZinx-X8EpuFITNCjsN3XEf91uMl8 ↗

Taylor attended some media class with her friend in Budig and I happened to have an anthropology class across the hall at the same time. Even as a history major, anthropology was boring as hell. Word spread very quickly that Taylor was there obviously and I waited outside after class hoping to meet her. I didn't get a picture with her because I couldn't afford a smartphone as they were still extremely new and expensive as hell, but I did get to meet her and tell her we shared a birthday (just not the same year).

My other celebrity encounter was the night that Kirk Hinrich had his jersey retired and I bumped into him on the second level concourse as he was leaving the arena to beat traffic and I was returning to my seat from the bathroom. I was able to get a picture with Kirk that night which was very cool.

If you had any celebrity encounters while at KU, this would be a good place to share those stories.

@FarmerJayhawk said in 2023 Season Predictions:

The 🐐 Phil Steele forecasts us to allow 31.4 a game. So we’ll see how it goes but we should be able to score enough to at least go .500.

If that ends up being close to accurate, that's only 4 points better than last season and probably still not in the top 100. I also don't think we can expect any kind of significant increase in tur overs either as the defense was 25th in turnovers created last season. Probably need the offense to cut down to help the turnover margin this season.

Since we're not likely to see huge gains in defense, if I was Coach Borland, I would focus on one area to improve and that would be Redzone defense. KU gave up the 2nd most redzone attempts, 65 total or 5 per game, so keeping teams out of the red zone would do wonders. If teams do reach the red zone, focus on forcing FG's instead of TD's because again, KU gave up the 3rd most red zone TD's last season. The run defense was the biggest culprit as KU did give the most red zone rushing TD's last season and only Colorado gave up more total rushing TD's last season.

@Kcmatt7 said in 2023 Season Predictions:

@dylans I mean if the goal is to keep expectations low so you aren't disappointed, this is certainly the best approach. I just don't see a team returning this many starters on both sides of the ball regressing that badly.

I could see that scenario happening with a few injuries because KU still doesn't have a lot of playable depth yet. Also, our defense still won't be good and losing those 50/50 games against other midpack teams like OSU, UCF, and ISU is a good way to end up in the 3-5 win range. I've said in other comments, even if the defense takes a full TD off of the ppg allowed from last season, KU would still be in the bottom 1/3 in ppg allowed nationally. Yes, the offense should be one of the top in the B12 as long as people stay healthy, but that's not a given, and the offense won't be able to overcome the defense each week.

This is also why I don't like the conference schedule. This schedule sets up a lot like last season where most of KU's wins this season are going to come in the first half of the season before getting into a murderers row of games down the stretch. I would love to see the back half of KU's schedule have the home/away games inverted because 3 winnable games in that half of the schedule are all road games.

Having the OSU, ISU, and Cincinnati games on the road are why I'm not as optimistic as you are about KU getting to 8-9 wins and why I think 6 or 7 wins is more likely.

2023 Season Predictions • Jul 07, 2023 01:37 AM

@kjayhawks said in 2023 Season Predictions:

The defense and special teams were absolute garbage last season. I personally think Borland’s seat should be pretty warm at this point. We have guys getting drafted and signed as UFAs but rank in the bottom 20% of CFB in every nearly statistical category defensively. I’d be happy with a bowl win, 6-6 is what I personally predict at this point. Being super optimistic I’d say 8-4 at best. This is a good schedule and lots of folks are predicting an easy win against Illinois. I’d bet a hefty amount that’s a very tight game. I’m excited to see what we can do and hope to make it to a game for the first time since 2019.

If the Illinois game was in Champaign, I'd have ot as a loss. That defense gave up the fewest ppg last season and returning most of those players. Only reason I have KU winning is because of how much turnover they have on offense this season. I'm fully expecting that game to look like the ISU game last and if their offense is clicking from the get go, they could easily beat KU by double digits.

@Texas-Hawk-10 So does it bother you when it was used by some of the greatest authors, such as James Joyce, Charlotte Brontë, Charles Dickens, F. Scott Fitzgerald in a figurative sense? I would say that it is colloquially used quite often. I understand that everyone has their pet peeves, but I find this one interesting.

It bothers me because it's something that gets over used quite frequently. If it's done by an author intentionally with a character using it as a character trait, then it doesn't bother as mich because of the context of its use. When literally is being used instead of figuratively out of laziness or ignorance, then it does bother me, regardlessof who the writer is. Again, that's the teacher in me being annoyed by a basic piece of grammar being misused.

@FarmerJayhawk said in 2023 Season Predictions:

I’ve heard good things about the secondary. Like NFL scouts think Mello is a real pro. And obviously Cobee is super talented, he’s just got to tighten things up. Marvin Grant got better as the season went on and the belief is he can keep getting better. Kenny kinda just is what he is now. But if those guys take a step forward it’ll make the DL look a lot better.

So while yes it is literally true the defense could be worse it’s also literally true I could get a date with Hillary Duff this weekend.

As a teacher, it just bothers me when people use literally when it's not the correct usage of that word.

@Texas-Hawk-10 I think the way you're looking at the schedule makes sense.

At the same time, if the team takes a step forward this year, I think the schedule lends itself to a big season. Getting to play conference opponents you think you can beat at home (KSU/TTU/OU) and having a pretty soft road schedule gives them a good shot at 8 wins.

I don't think Kansas can beat OU or KSU though yet, even at home. OU and KSU were not competitive games last year and we're not sneaking up on anyone this year. Tech is more of a toss up, but still think they're better than KU overall at this point.

2023 Season Predictions • Jul 06, 2023 04:05 PM

@Kcmatt7 said in 2023 Season Predictions:

@Texas-Hawk-10 Would love to see you lay out a W/L game by game.

For me, I just think the defense gave up the 7th most PPG in all of CFB last year. They literally can't be any worse.

Literally, yes the defense can get worse because they weren't the worst last season. There's only two games I feel comfortable enough to definitively say KU will win and that's Missouri St. and Nevada. I don't feel confident enough to say KU will sweep the non-confernce part of the schedule because Illinois is returning most of its defense that allowed the fewest ppg last season so that's not a gimme game. They're going through transition with a lot of new skill players and a new DC, but the defense should still be really good because the DB coach was promoted.

You say KU has a great schedule to win 9 games and I don't agree with that. The 3 most winnable B12 games are all on the road and the only B12 road game KU won last year was at West Virginia who's not on the schedule this year. KU has 3 B12 title contenders among the 5 home games with OU, KSU, and Texas Tech. UCF at home won't be easy as well as they did play in the AAC title game last year. KU isn't sneaking up on Texas, but playing them early means we could catch them in a QB controversy if Ewers struggles.

I do believe KU should beat BYU and Cincinnati. I don't feel quite as confident with those two as I do with MO. St. and Nevada.

Basically, KU is a middle of the pack team with one of the top offenses in the B12 but also quite possibly still the worst defense in the B12 as well.

Missouri St.- W

Illinois- W

@Nevada- W

BYU- W

@Texas- L

UCF- W

@Oklahoma St- L

Oklahoma- L

@Iowa St.- L

Texas Tech- L

Kansas St.- L

@Cincinnati- W

Final record: 6-6

I got season tickets this year for the first time. Pretty darn excited to see how it goes.... Below is my W/L projection.

  • Missouri State - W
  • Illinois - W
  • @ Nevada - W
  • BYU - W
  • @ UT - L
  • UCF - W
  • @OSU - W
  • OU - L
  • @ISU - W
  • TTU - W
  • KSU - L
  • @ Cincy - W

9-3 Regular season.

I really think an 8 or 9 win season happens. The schedule falls PERFECTLY for that to happen. I think they can play ball with OU, TTU, and KSU at home. OSU needs Bowman to be the answer at QB, and I just don't feel like he scares me all that much. Genuinely, every single game except for UT on the road feels like a game we could win this year.

My hopes are definitely too high right now, but man a good season would catapult this program to places it has never been.

I think you're overestimating the growth the defense makes this year. KU was still bottom 10 in ppg allowed last season. Even a TD improvement in that area still means the defense will likely be in the bottom 1/3 nationally in ppg allowed.

I'm with Farmer and think KU maintains from last season and is in the 6-7 win range because the defense isn't good enough yet to make that next leap.

That's My Quarterback • Jul 05, 2023 07:47 PM

@Kcmatt7 I don't think KU is going to win enough games for Daniels to be a Heisman contender. I don't see 8-9 regular season wins on the schedule this year.

Mo. St. and Nevada to me are the only gimme wins on the schedule for KU. In Big 12 play, we're not getting West Virginia or Houston and the two softest teams on the schedule are both on the road (OSU and ISU). I'll be happy if KU doesn't regress their record this year.

Unless the defense makes some major strides this year, KU's defense is still going to be very bad and struggling to hold teams under 30 points. I'll be happy if the defense to give up under 30 ppg this season as that would be almost a touchdown per game improvement from last season amd even that would still be in the bottom 1/3 nationally in ppg allowed.

Amazing how this day has changed in my mind. I used to debate whether July 4th or Christmas was my favorite holiday. The parades, fireworks, picnics, frequently we were at a lake house my parents have owned in Wisconsin, well it was just a great day. Church was always fun for the Sunday prior as it was a lot of God bless America type themes and I just basically had a week of fun and frivolity.

We have an amazing country. I still believe that but issues of justice have deeply troubled me in the past decade. My work in the inner city has also shaped me, but just learning more about the flawed framers of this democracy have me more and more wanting to just ignore this day.

When Barack Obama won I heard of an old friend weeping with joy. He had been nearly beaten to death in a Mississippi jail for being on a mission to register blacks to vote and continues today in his 90's to beat the drum for reconciliation.

But the next president taking advantage of still prevailing racial attitudes that were not agreeable with many of us seemed to inspire a revival of blatant displays of bigotry that had become largely hidden. Confederate flags in rural Wisconsin became common. An in your face my way or the highway approach to politics was taking over and we're here in 2023 as divided as we have been for a long time.

I put no flag up on my house this year. Just not feeling it. I'm a conservative but haven't voted for a republican since 2012 except for a few local races, wasting presidential votes on 3rd party candidates. I'm a voiceless conservative, finding some solace in people like Adam Kinziger, David French and others. I can't support the far right that are somehow giving Trump the lead for the Repub nomination, but finding little in common with people on the left either.

I hope I'm not irking many here, glad we have this forum to discuss other things as well. Enjoy your holiday!

It's scary that Trump might genuinely be the lesser of two evils in the Republican primary race against DeSantis over the next year and unless Nikki Haley can pull some support, it'll be a Trump/DeSantis battle. It's scary how far right the right is moving and that they are moving closer and closer to full on fascism.

If KU could get a pipeline out of Katy HS, then holy hell on some of the players KU could get from there. For those who know nothing about HS football in Texas, Katy is the biggest powerhouse in the Houston area and is a toss up with Southlake Carroll for most dominant program in the state at the 6A level. Each of those schools has won 8 state titles in football which is tied for most at the highest classification level on Texas amd tied for second most overall.

Udoka Azubuike will be playing for the Boston Celtics after the Jazz did not re-sign Doke. Probably Doke's last chance to stick in the NBA before he'll have to head overseas.

Jalen Wilson will be looking to make the Nets opening day roster and not spend the majority of the season in the G-League.

Gradey Dick will be joined by David McCormack in Toronto as McCormack looks to land a two way deal.

Doug McDermott is 17th on the list.

LoL Dur.

I swear I looked at the list. Oh well. McDermott's college career seemed more celebrated than Curry's (although Curry is clearly the better player).

But Zion? He was mostly hype. Surprised Myron didn't stuff Kyrie on this list.

Anyway, this whole thing is ridiculously subjective and probably purposely so... All Myron has to offer in the offseason is clickbait.

A big chunk of the players on the list won the Wooden Award and the ones that didn't lost to someone else on the list. As I said in an initial post, discussion and debate is the primary purpose of this type of article because it is the offseason for college basketball. Pretty much every site that covers college basketball is going to be putting out articles that are subjective in nature with the intent of generating debate and traffic because that's all there is right now for college basketball.

I love Steph Curry, but I guarantee if his ankle injury early in his career had persisted or if the warriors hadn't brought in Kerr and his system, he would not be on this list. (In other words, his NBA career impacted his selection.) Otherwise, why wouldn't Doug McDermott be on this list?

Doug McDermott is 17th on the list.

Speaking of best players.... quite a few good players are playing in the TBT in wichita. Anybody going? We went last year and saw the horrible injury to Perry, right off the bat. Without him they were terrible! First time ever, I wanted to leave a KU game early.

Hopefully they live up to the 1 seed they were given.

So far, the confirmed roster includes Dedric Lawson, Devon Dotson, Jamari Traylor, Keith Langford, Lagerald Vick, Marcus Garrett, Mario Little, Thomas Robinson, Tyshawn Taylor, and Wayne Selden with Morris Twins coachingthem. I've also heard Mitch Lightfoot is expected to join up in the next couple of days as well.

@BeddieKU23 if you get down to Lawrence hit me up! Would be happy to show you guys around.

Waiting to see what the Big-12 schedule looks like before planning something. Will be keeping that in mind. Plan is for me, the wife (not KU fan but supports my crazy fandom) and my son who's getting into basketball. Thanks!

My school district is implementing a fall break and week break in February so I'm definitely going to consider going to the midweek game that week I'm off in February.

2020 Baylor game in Waco. GameDay was there and that was the game KU cemented themselves as the title favorites before Covid shut everything down.

2018 Final Four against Villanova because it my first Final Four game in person, and so far only one. Yes, KU got annihilated, but all the stuff around the Final Four is even better when your team is in it.

Third would be 2010 KSU game because it was my last game in AFH as a student. It was also a top 5 match up as KU was 2 a d KSU 5 going into the game and KU ran KSU out of the gym by 17.

Edit: The 2010 KSU game was Sherron Collins senior day game.

Wouldn’t Hunter be one of those big bench bodies in the nba? Guys that come in the game so the starters can rest?

Hunter is likely a guy who gets a two way deal as an undrafted free agent. It's possible he could be a late second rounder, but I think UFA amd a two-way deal is more likely for Hunter.

It worked for Texas.

@wissox This is the time of year I don't pay a ton of attention to baseball. It's past the start of the season, the trade deadline is over a month away and every team is basically treading water now so for me, this is the most boring part of baseball season.

Pretty much all of Kentucky and Dukes players are predicted to get drafted. Many are freshmen that haven’t dribbled a ball in college yet. Zero Kansas players on the list of pro prospects, yet someone will end up playing professional ball due to development in college. I’d wager KU will have a better season than both those teams in spite of the lack of day one nba talent.

The 2024 is very open at this point and hard to nail anyone down. There isn't a consensus top guy and prospects are all over the map. Elmarko Jackson does appear in pretty much every mock ranging from late lottery to early second round in every mock I've seen except for ESPN's. I would also say that Givony's mock might be the most out there of the mocks I've seen post draft amd wouldn't put a ton of stock in his projections.

Kind of a dumb list using those criteria, but whatever. Mostly good players

I always thought the Beasley hype was more than he was worth. Did Blake Griffin ever play in a game against KU?

It's a dead period for college basketball so writers need content. It's a fun way to generate discussion and based on the article, it sounds like Medcalf is going to be doing some type of list pretty regularly during the summer.

Looking at Blake Griffin's game logs, he played 5 minutes against KU in the '07-08 game. I know he missed the following year with a concussion and is probably the only reason why KU won the Big 12 that year because OU with a healthy Blake Griffin was better than KU that season.

I always had good luck north of the stadium. Also the downtown shuttle is good if you’re doing Mass before or after

I'm with Farmer: I park north of the stadium on the side streets and walk blocks and blocks to the stadium. I'd rather walk a long distance to where I parked, than sit in traffic for long, long minutes trying to get to 9th or 6th streets. Parking garages are difficult to exit when everyone leaves at the same time. I looked at IState's stadium and was quite envious of all the parking surrounding the stadium. But, I don't know how close the football stadium is to campus. I loved having the stadium on campus as a student. Walking to the game was part of the campus experience. This gets back to the chicken and the egg question: is the football experience for the students or the alums? I always believe the students should take priority, but clearly that isn't what happens at AFH.

Looking at Google Maps, it appears ISU's stadium is not directly on campus and it shares the parking lot with Hilton. Basically imagine if AFH at one end of West Campus and Memorial Stadium was the other end of West Campus and there was nothing but parking lots between the two. That's basically the set up for Jack Trice Stadium and Hilton Coliseum is at ISU.

@Texas-Hawk-10 thx! Oscar, nothing? What's an exhibit-10? Again, thx!

Not that I can find yet. Exhibit-10 basically means a player will be in training camp with a team through the preseason before a team has to make a decision to sign them, cut them, or put them on a two-way deal.

@BeddieKU23 I think I saw Rice got picked up too. Didn't know if any other big 12 guys were left? Drew timme or Oscar?

Mike Miles signed a two-way with Dallas, Timme signed and Exhibit-10 contract with Milwaukee, Flagler signed with OKC, Markquis Nowell signed a two-way with Toronto, Matt Mayer signed a Summer League deal with Houston, Marcus Carr signed a Summer League deal with Phoenix.

Edit, here's the link to the article: https://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/story/_/id/37880049/the-top-25-men-college-basketball-players-25-years ↗

Since it's essentially a dead time for sports, this is when we usually see these types of articles pop up to generate traffic. Myron Medcalf at ESPN put together his list of the top 25 college basketball players of the past 25 years. His criteria was basically that overall resumes weren't a big factor (I'd call BS on that based on team achievements of a few of the players), but the "talent, skill, dominance and impact" a player had while in college were the main criteria. It also shouldn't be too big of a shock that based on Medcalf's criteria a lot of the top players were OAD guys. Also, most players were Wooden Award winner and most of the non winners played the same season as someone else on the list that did win it that season. What's surprising to me is that there aren't any KU players on this list as I can think of 4 that would be worthy (Drew Gooden, Nick Collison, Kirk Heinrich, and Frank Mason)

  1. Kevin Durant (Texas)

  2. Anthony Davis (Kentucky)

  3. Zion Williamson (Duke)

  4. Jay Williams (Duke)

  5. Steph Curry (Davidson)

  6. Tyler Hansbrough (North Carolina)

  7. JJ Redick (Duke)

  8. Carmelo Anthony (Syracuse)

  9. Kenyon Martin (Cincinnati)

  10. Trae Young (Oklahoma)

  11. Michael Beasley (Kansas St.)

  12. Dwayne Wade (Marquette)

  13. Shane Battier (Duke)

  14. Richard Hamilton (UConn)

  15. Elton Brand (Duke)

  16. Emeka Okafor (UConn)

  17. Doug McDermott (Creighton)

  18. Blake Griffin (Oklahoma)

  19. Buddy Hield (Oklahoma)

  20. Kemba Walker (UConn)

  21. John Wall (Kentucky)

  22. Evan Turner (Ohio St.)

  23. Adam Morrison (Gonzaga)

  24. Jimmer Fredette (BYU)

  25. Jalen Brunson (Villanova)

The criteria change I would've made was that the player's entire college career had to take place in the last 25 years, so basically a freshman during the 1998-99 season which would eliminate Kenyon Martin, Shane Battier, Richard Hamilton, and Elton Brand for me personally. But Medcalf just made it any player who played a season after that point.

My thoughts on this list as is are that Shane Battier and Kenyon Martin are too low. K-Mart before he broke his leg was one of the most physically gifted basketball players I've ever seen amd one of the biggest what-if's in college basketball history. I'm also surprised there weren't any KU players as there are 4 that were very much worthy of being included and Inwas also surprised there was only 1 UNC player included as I was expecting to see Sean May on here as well.

Adding players to this list also means taking players off to make room for them. If is was my criteria, then it'd be a simple swap as I'd remove Martin and Hamilton to add a couple of worthy KU players. The first KU player I'd add is Frank Mason as he's KU's only Wooden Award winner during this time and I'd remove Evan Turner. The other KU player I'd add is probably Nick Collison and I'd remove John Wall.

Is he though? If he was initially under the impression that Hunter was only going to be here for a year like most of us were, then it sounded like he was going to be willing to wait his turn. But when it started sounding more and more like it would be two years waiting behind Hunter, then Udeh changed his tune and I don't blame him one bit for not wanting to wait until he's senior year to start at Kansas while not really getting to play big minutes either.

Why do people do such things?

I thought the craziest thing was the idea of this family living off of one bowling coaches salary lol.

And then the idea that the guy was coaching unofficially for awhile.

AND THEN the school attempting to circumvent nepotism laws by having the associate bowling coach “report” to someone other than the head bowling coach.

There are at least 3 people who should lose their jobs here. If not more.

Nacogdoches is a small town. I don't know specifically what her contract was, but likely enough to love off of in a town that size in the middle of East Texas which has a pretty low cost of living.

Surprised I'm not seeing many references to Tyler Summit (son of Tennessee legend Pat Summit who did the same. He was cheating on his wife while an assistant coach at Marquette with a freshman player, then got the Louisiana Tech job and the girl transferred to follow which raised eyebrows and was known by players and school administration before being made public knowledge. It split the team, Tyler got divorced and ended up marrying the girl he was cheating with.
