@BigBad hope you stick around. As with your feeling about Self, my feeling about this board goes beyond basketball. If we scattered to the wind, I’d miss the conversation and the diversity of opinions we have here. Would happily talk about anything, if theres something else everyone is interested in. We can pivot and make new buckets to talk about other stuff.

@Crimsonorblue22 they are the presumptive favorites. I wonder how much compensation at Duke for freshman talent, if one could quantify value of all the perks, stacks up at Duke compared to other institutions.

I very much want to see a roster we can be geeked about for next year to take shape quickly, at least the big pieces.

Ok. Thanks guys… do you feel the absence of a GM will put us at a competitive disadvantage this off season? Do we have enough cabbage to field the roster we want?

So… if we are going to hire a GM why havent we done it already? By the time we do it will be too late to have any effect this year. Could have had the leads warmed up 2 months ago.

Ha. You guys hung onto the sting longer? better? than I did. Thanks for reminding me. For some reason that one didnt stick with me because I expected it. Sherron has never been one my favorite Jayhawks. Mostly, I found his decision making maddening. Kind of the opposite of Juan. Hopeless drives to get packed at the rim, etc.

@Texas-Hawk-10 @ImmunoHawk love this. Another guy who gives everything around the program seems like a big win for us in addition to a win for KJ.

@wissox yeah. Brass cajones, that shot. As a fan of basketball, you have to tip the hat. As I remember it, we werent horrible that day, and they didnt job us with bad calls, Northern Iowa executed brilliantly and earned the win.

I dont know if this bothers me. It seems like there is a culture of one year stints for players and shorter stints for coaches than we might be accustomed to. Maybe coach is being transparent about it. Conversely, coaches can wait too long and tie the university’s hands.

@BShark sure, Perry immediately came to mind but i would need to see how versatile and creative he is. Perry was very crafty despite being landlocked.

@SlimShaddy54 i see a large guard who isnt a high flier, and doesnt have a fast first step. He can handle and doesnt shy away from contact. Not sure if he can finish through contact against athletes. Dont know about his shot. As long as he puts in the work consistently he can fit. Whether he can shoot well or not would determine how much PT

So, it does beg the question what the acceptable flaws are.

Do you bias against certain phenotypes? Ie Zuby is ok but people who cant put on muscle AND cant jump are not?

And I am not a fan of broken shots or guys who cant play defense. Prefer holes in offense?

You make good points but i think the question is valid.

We saw no real physical improvements, and if anything, they seemed more lethargic this year.

Still had a couple critical injuries.

@Crimsonorblue22 Thats poetic injustice. I would not be shocked to see KJ commentating some day but I hope that day is far off at the date of his choosing.

I would take rylan and or storr back, both are capable of a higher tempo game and it felt like the lights were coming on for AJ.

@wissox well it doesnt help that the 8-6 SEC gets 14 bids. That devastated the tournament as well.

For what its worth, we did better against Arkansas than St Johns did, despite the appearance that they played a whole lot harder. We made more threes and we beat ourselves with a lack of composure.

I would really like Bill Self to get his guys to play hard, but maybe that was their maximum gear at years end

Was bummed Zuby got bounced. He was carrying St Johns, and I was prepared to watch him a couple more games

@kjayhawks I remember throwing up in my mouth a little bit watching this awkward high five.

Not only is Hunter the face of the worst 2 years of the Bill Self Era, he also is the first big face of NIL at KU, and unfortunately, his legacy will carry that as well.

I do agree that @Texas-Hawk-10 had this team pretty much nailed from day one of the roster construction. And you were one of the more vocal posters early about Hunter.

@kjayhawks my point is you have a habit of getting all “me against the world, Im right everyone else was wrong” and it was never like that, nor is it like that now. There were many people skeptical of roster construction. I am the first person to eat crow when its in order. But I think you are mischaracterizing everyone else as being diametrically opposed to you in the rear view. There were some but def not all.

Zeke and Diggy were never good passers or handlers and cost us as much or more than Juan. There just wasnt another option when philon decommitted and Elmarko went down.

Dont get me wrong, I criticized Selfs decision to have Flory on the bench and went through a stretch where i thought playing him over KJ was the answer. I never really saw an alternative to Juan.

KJ seemed to find new energy late in the season while Juan got progressively worse. But we had to get to that point to see it.

Hunter was the biggest problem on this roster, and then Juan as the only viable handler.

@kjayhawks To be honest, its possible you WERE full of shit about Juan and KJ playing too much. Specifically, if Shak was too hurt to play (as Self mentioned in post game when he mentioned Shak and Elmarko being hurt really affected the make up of this team) and since KJ was a better option to pair with Flory than Hunter down the stretch.

We can agree that roster construction was putrid but Im not sure the consensus is unanimous about playing time. We simply didnt have better options, and those options were mediocre.
