@DanR frankly I like Hield. I think devonte is probably the most punchable face in the Big 12 and I appreciate that about him. Swag.
Sub.please.Bill.
@Mikey-P I read this article earlier and had the same reaction. Labeling an entire generation as being thin skinned or weak or whatever Sarver is insinuating is just flat stupid business. Sure Kieff screwed up with his brother and hasn't played up to expectations this year. But that is not the only reason l why the Suns suck. Sarver needs to practice what he's preaching about management communicating better and stop labeling millenials, and get a clue what providing effective motivation for his young talented players might actually look like.
Enjoyed Bill's press conference yesterday. I confess, when he talks about the conference titles it struck a chord with me. Maybe it's why we enjoy conference play so much... Because we can be certain that Bill Self will do everything in his power to dominate against good teams that we are all familiar with.
Can't we all just get along? Let's accept that we all have the ability to act like asshats and stop this instance of that act. Or if we're not going to stop, let's not take it personally when people get personal... or if we're going to take it personally, then let's accept that we'll take it personally but that this is a well-traversed point plotted on the same old hyperbolic curve starting at an instance of asshattery and ending in reconciliation and inwardly chuckle that we are creatures of habit.. or... I don't know... Next!
@Crimsonorblue22 I'm torn.. on one hand I like Otto Porter, being that he didn't do the AAU scene and he's a starter in the NBA, which is rare coming out of school these days, on the other, I'm happy to see Oubre get minutes with Porter sidelined, and he seems to be turning a corner. Wishing them both success, and hope we keep both in Washington as long as possible.
@wissoxfan83 Frank has always been a monster. I was in awe of what we had in him last year when he was the only guy that showed up to play against Kentucky and showed us near-flawless handles. While the length crushed us that game, the pressure on-ball never did. What a breath of fresh air from the Naadir/EJ/Tyshawn era. I appreciate those guys, but man, Frank is a true ice-cold PG.
His sister's high school coach swore to me that Frank had not yet reached his potential a few months ago. I believed him, but I think this year we're seeing it. Between his decision making, speed, and his 3pt shot, he can be damn near unstoppable.
Bring on the KY-decimation.

@RockChalkinTexas oubre?
@Crimsonorblue22 does that mean you're a Wizards fan now?
For this new year, I'm going to make a little space in my heart for Jamari. I'm not saying I'll be unrealistic about expectations; but the kid is a hard worker and beloved by Self. I'm going to appreciate the fact that Jamari adds depth to the soul of this team, and look at his minutes as more than just productive, tangible basketball output.
We'll see how long this lasts, but that's one of my resolutions.
@Lulufulu Roderick Bobbitt was absolutely unconscious for Hawaii. Self has been beaten in the past by someone going off (Valentine, for ex.). I think we would have handled Hawaii but I'm saying it was a bit of an outlier performance by Bobbitt
I too like Lon, and think he's quietly assembled one of the three best teams perenially in the Big XII, now that Hoiberg has left.
Merry Christmas everyone!
:santa: :basketball: :trophy:
@JayHawkFanToo Wow, I misspoke. I meant to say I have come to respect Drew. Don't have much respect for Ford still.
@brooksmd happy birthday to the saltiest Jayhawk I know.
@brooksmd They were definitely one of the strongest. They were ripped and super athletic, and didn't mind dropping someone with a hard screen or throwing some bows, but they were dirty by overpowering you. By strength and by speed and making unbelievably athletic plays.
Not by doing the five-step-Scheyer pivot and getting away with it, or getting 2 seconds added to the clock to make some last second half court shot, because your name is Duke.
They were a more respectably dirty - a bully.
I've come to respect Ford. He doesn't fare well against us (and certainly its easier not to hate someone your coach humiliates a lot in recent years), but he actually seems to be a decent guy (accusations of recruiting improprietary aside) and seems to recruit nice kids, and has a decent amount of national success. I mean for the conference, he seems alright, right?
And Huggy Bear, man, that guy can flat out coach. My college roommate was a Cincy fan during the Kenyon Martin years, and I watched him closely. They ran him out of Cincy on a power play by their AD. He will recruit the right talent for his system; if he's managed to keep his mind and gets the right chemistry out of those guys, watch out!
The players respond well to both these guys; I believe because they're decent human beings and decent coaches.
@brooksmd lol.
I wrote "Damn, I've gotten soft." after that original post, then chose to delete it... Nahh... Big XII 4eva. Would be even better if we could kick Texas to the curb. I honestly like Shaka, having taken classes at VCU and seeing a lot of him there, but Texas the University I cannot stand.
It's hard to root against the teams... I mean think back.. think back to Doc Sadlers dirty Nebraska team nutpunching us on the floor... or... Iowa State pre-Hoiberg even, or Michael Beasley stealing one from us... I felt the dark side of the force in those moments. But now man.. of the people on the floor, who's left to hate besides Weber?
CBS strikes again! You'd think they'd realize that pissing people off into signing up for some sort of package to see the one game they poached off the other carriers is cannibalizing their business.
@nwhawkfan honestly feel a little bad for Iowa St this year. Liked their team a little when Hoiberg was there (and 0ther than a few douchebag nutjob fans, their student body is alright with me). I'm going to relish tearing their 7 man rotation apart this year. But, non-conference, go Clones.
Only Big XII team I root against out of conference these days is Kansas State. Even Ford and Drew have grown on me.
;)
@ralster
I don't think Selden should bring the ball up. But oh my word, he is just filthy good against Montana right now. In a half court set or off the pass in transition, yes, Selden all day!
@drgnslayr no question! He trusts this team. They trust each other. We trust them. And how nice to have a preseason tournament to build that trust all around.
Run! Run! Run!
This team had me at Diallo.
And not because Cheick was great in his debut, which he was. Because it was at that point forward that Self relaxed, with his full complement of talent. Since then, it's been like a dream for us Bucketeers. Self's decision-making and our thoughts have been pretty much completely in lock step: Mick's got the run he has deserved, we've been playing to our strengths (shooting, running), and Self has come out and said as much. It feels like love.
I'm riveted. Goosebumps flush my arms. The 20-2 runs that absolutely bury competitive teams have me on cloud 9. Disruptive defense from guards and bigs, the outlet passes from Mick, Cheick and Bragg, the breakneck push down the floor from Frank, and Devonte, the spread wings ready to bury threes, and the smart decisions that fill the space between these elements. It feels like love!
But to me, it doesn't start with the 3. It starts with pushing the ball, and that means good outlets to Frank and Devonte, with Selden, Perry [and Svi/Green] rolling to the wings with the green light to bomb in transition. That's the stuff that makes 20-2 runs, and championships are made of.
Don't break my heart Bill. Let these Hawks run! What's a 3rd side? Never heard of it.
Run! Run! Run!
@HighEliteMajor jury is out on that I think (who is a figment of whose imagination :)) . @REhawk is right. This would not be the first time Bill has said something different than what he ends up doing. I want to believe him.
We will see how many threes we shoot come tournament time.
@wrwlumpy Inigo Montoya?! I'll be damned.
I think @HighEliteMajor is actually Bill Self's alter ago, and he's finally started seeing a shrink. :)
@wissoxfan83 I've already banned him.
Really enjoying this thread and the rational positive attitudes about BG. It's picking up my attitude on him. A dose of reality for me.
Now let's take this show to the continental 48!
It's under topic tools... Delete topic. May be admin specific. I'll ban this one too and hopefully they just go away.
ISIS is indoctrinating afghani children in the schools, showing beheading and torture videos to 4 year olds. There's a PBS special that will come out about it called ISIS in Afghanistan. It's incredibly sad. They're also offering almost 4 times the military salary (the military salary is not enough and not as reliable) , to people who will fight for them. The people who are conducting these attacks were 4 years old once. How can we stop this cycle of indoctrination? Part of what is needed is a strong Muslim anti terrorist voice. And yes we can provide military support, but I'm afraid this will take a long time to heal and the situation is far more complex than we can imagine.
@konkeyDong I censored your F bomb. Let's keep our standards. I totally sympathize with the emotion.
@globaljaybird Racial tension is not something I regularly encounter in my life. I thought I was posting an interesting news article about someone else, and it didn't occur to me that it would blow up here. An oversight. We don't need to see eye to eye.
:) just delete them guys. It's not a threat. It's just an annoyance. We survived the Russians. This too shall pass. I'll look at permanent solutions.
You guys are too funny. I banned the first two.. We'll see how many more show up.
@drgnslayr @Red.Rooster Thanks for the kind words. Can't wait for the season!
@elpoyo in fairness, the Bill Self toughening box works for some and not at all for others.
Sorry for the outage guys. I think the provider had a maintenance outage and I had thought they'd resume the server in the state they found. Which is another way of saying I'm lazy and need to get into game shape, otherwise I will be vomiting on the bench a la BRush, come game time.
Thanks for keeping me informed when stuff like this happens. It helps! approxinfinity@gmail.com
Congrats to your Royals, guys. My Nats have a few big questions to answer going into the off season. Ah well. Go Royals!
@approxinfinity Hey man. This is you from the future. Please ask @HighEliteMajor to tell Bill to give Frank more minutes. You're going to need that kid. And don't overplay Embiid early, and don't rush him back when he gets hurt. Trust that Tarik to produce!
Love,
You
Wow. Sweet!
I created a KUBuckets twitter account a while back but don't have any plans on putting content there, and there aren't any plugins that automatically pull content from here. I guess I don't really see the need for maintaining updated content on a twitter account, other than for exposure.
There is, however, a plugin that allows you to embed tweets in posts that I was interested in, but last time I tried to install it, it didn't work. I could try at some point to install that plugin again. I did think that would be pretty cool and useful for us.
Agree or disagree with recruiting rankings they do have a impact on our expectations for players. Selden and Tyshawn had similar numbers through their first two seasons, yet only one of them is generally thought of as an underachiever through two seasons and that's because one was a top 10 recruit and the other was ranked in the 70's.
That's true of expectations on his raw talent, and ability to leave for the NBA, OAD, However, I think as many or more people doubted Tyshawn's ability to be the guy we needed, because expectations for Tyshawn's teams' success were probably higher than the expectations for Selden's last two teams.
I think there were more voices that we needed to replace Tyshawn his first two years. This year the expectations on Wayne and team will be fairly comparable to Tyshawn 2011-2012..
@drgnslayr you make too much sense some times.
@brooksmd Buy stock in protective facemasks!
Aleks Maric reportedly just stopped trying to make the leap from Spanish club Gran Canaria to the NBA.
@drgnslayr Is that the Van vs. Cancer?
!

@elpoyo Alright.. Alright.
and its ok for Embiid to leave KU for a better opportunity in the NBA vs Conner seeking a better opportunity else where?
It's a fair point that Wichita State might end up being a better opportunity for Conner, but the circumstances couldn't be more different.. Conner's unforseen departure in the offseason to a Wichita State team that just beat us in the tournament doesn't make a KU fan want to root for him. It is not as compelling as a guy giving us his all and going to the league. I mean, there may be a great story about Conner that makes me say "you know what, that kid is alright." So far, I haven't read it. In the meantime, do you expect KU fans to root for Conner at Wichita State?
Conner was a much better athlete/player…
I'm assuming you mean "than what he got a chance to show us when benched/injured" and not "than Embiid", because I don't think the latter would make much sense. So your point is that if we saw what Conner was capable of as a player, we'd have rooted for him more. Which is probably true, except we didn't see that at Kansas, and now he's at Wichita State.
Conner not as likeable as a jayhawk? why because he didn’t make tons of stupid twitter posts and constantly act like a child?
Embiid's a pretty funny guy. And Conner tweets as much as Embiid.. It's just not very interesting to me. I don't care how much Drake Conner listens to; I'd rather read Embiid saying that he killed a lion with his bare hands. Which one is imaginative and which one sounds like every other college kid?
As for how nice I am or Conner is, that has nothing to do with anything, and discredits your post. Comparing Embiid to Conner is a stretch, but debatable. Comparing me to Conner's family is trolling. I think what you're trying to say is that Conner is as nice as they come, and maybe that's true, but we didn't get to see much of that while he was here. I think most of the kids Self recruits are pretty good kids, and I didn't see Conner separating himself in that regard in any notable way (other than transferring to Wichita State).
Its funny how like the Beiber fans (beliebers) and Beyonce fans ( BeyHive), the Selfers continue to blindly promote and support Self without ever actually realizing what they are doing or what they stand for.
This thread was about Embiid, not about supporting Self. You've equated supporting Embiid with somehow being a knock against Frankamp, which seems to be what you really want to discuss: the mistreatment of Frankamp. And I do think there's a valid argument to be made that Frankamp was mishandled, and it will be very interesting to see if he can get comfortable at Wichita State, and I don't think failure/success at Wichita State means that we made the right/wrong decisions at Kansas with him. I was very excited when Frankamp came to KU. I thought he had a bright future with us, he seemed to always want to be a Jayhawk growing up, and I'm sorry it didn't work out. That being said, it isn't going to make me root any less for the Lion Killer, Joel Embiid.
Embiid's ceiling is much greater than Conner's; as @dylans expressed best, Embiid has the potential to be a national treasure. Embiid's work ethic is greater, his contributions to the team were greater, his sense of humor was greater, among other things.
Of course, we're fans and the personal story makes us root for the guy who played behind Dakari Johnson in high school, but exploded onto the national stage for us after playing only 3 years of basketball and was breathtaking before injury. I like that guy over the guy who struggled at Kansas on and off the court and transferred to Wichita State because he thought that's a better opportunity for him. Not that I hate on Conner for that, it's just not a compelling story at all.
There's no double standard that I see here. Conner just wasn't as likeable a Jayhawk as Embiid.
@wissoxfan83 Bo is leaving the possibility of return after this season open: http://espn.go.com/mens-college-basketball/story/_/id/13428654/bo-ryan-wisconsin-badgers-not-totally-sure-retire-2015-16-season ↗
So... people shouldn't feel bad for Embiid because he can afford to not fulfill his potential and still get laid? Because in the end that's all that matters? Come on dude. Let's get off the basement floor.
