Why?!
@BeddieKU23 Dokes been eaten up all the rebounds.
Real question: has he had a head injury? It just look like his decisions are slow and labored.
Gotta get Ochai out again
@kjayhawks I’m more than a little worried. I’d almost sit him the rest of this game just to be safe.
@DCHawker can’t shoot. Like at all.
Texas fans are freaking out that Shaka might sneak into the tournament. At this point they are ready for him to lose enough to justify firing him!
Finally caught a pass ready to shoot!
I wish they’d call when k state wraps both arms around Dave.
@justanotherfan yeah it’s way different when he rolls an ankle opposed to like Dotson.
@BShark Lots of shoving in the paint but nothing more than usual.
Please be one of those rolls where it scares you more than it actually hurts.
Shit
Good minutes early from Braun
Doke gaining confidence at the line.
@jessejayhawk It’d be well fertilized...
A couple of things that came up as I was reading through this section.
1. While a lot of folks fear the next generation will destroy us, as someone who works with kids every single day, I truly believe they are more likely to save us. They are certainly way more thoughtful, driven, and compassionate than I was at their age.
2. As an educator it is an unfortunate truth that our education system has failed many young people and those young people being failed are disproportionately boys of color, low income, and in inner cities (and in that order). Our current school system was created to produce good workers to work in manufacturing jobs that required little critical thinking. Schools are authoritarian systems, with bells telling you when to move and what to do and in no way reflect the current job market like they did when that shift was made.
3. The value of experiencing the world and the wide range of views within it cannot be overstated. I was at a funeral recently in a small Kansas town at a very conservative church. When asked by an older gentleman what I did, I told him I was a teacher. He scoffed and shook his head and began to rant at me about how terrible kids were these days and how much harder my job is now a days because of drugs. I responded that hadn't been my experience and left it at that. I asked family later about this man and was told he had lived in this small town all his life and never really traveled or been outside of his little bubble. I felt nothing but pity for this man who clearly crafted all of his views based on what he saw on TV (I won't mention the specific channel but you probably already know). He has no idea that kids today are experimenting with drugs at a lesser rate and at older ages, putting of sex until in committed relationships and at older ages, and so many other things that he couldn't possibly imagine.
4. I totally agree that the "good people don't talk about politics" is what got us to this extremely polarized place politically. I would add the "I don't see race I just see people" is equally as dangerous. And one thing I do agree with @HighEliteMajor about is that we need to be talking more about race, not less.
@Woodrow As will Duke fans, and Kentucky fans, and Baylor fans this year. It makes me laugh how every year, each region is the hardest depending on who you talk to! I honestly feel like we usually get a pretty fair shake most years. Creating a "fair" tournament with 64 teams while considering travel costs, and most importantly ad revenue is certainly not a simple process.
@BeddieKU23 I'd imagine David is going to get some significant hacks. Dotson and Garrett will be put to the floor a few times. I really hope they don't cheap shot Doke as he wasn't really involved and is on such an upswing. He can take some good hard fouls and does EVERY game. Also, I would be very afraid to foul Doke too hard. He is so scary strong.
I don't know how someone could keep Doke off that list if he keeps this up. He's just having MONSTER games right now.
@BeddieKU23 So over under 2 games for those nine dunks?
@jayballer73 said in Ok guys , so what am I missing, got to be things:
Guys I've been thinking the last couple of days , actually at different times this season. Now I hear some people here and there and I agree with them but I dunno , and I could be wrong and I'll readily admit chances are I am.
Don't get me wrong I love KU actually I've let my feelings/emotions probably go to far sometimes throughout my life - - especially when I was younger. At a younger age you just didn't say a single thing bad about the guys or we would have issues - - typical hot head to quick of temper, have been able to manage to temper that some lol.
Ok so anyways just have to ask - - WHAT am I missing about this group of guys ? -- I mean were good ,I know that not saying that at all BUT for some reason this team just does not WOW me. Where is the WOW in this team ? You know what I'm saying ? - This team does just not sit me back and say like DAM they crazy good -no flash. I mean you know - - where is that WOW factor at with this team ? - Someone tell me with this team just stuns you, makes you say - - we got this - -something that you just kinda of like OH YA - we good . - I just don't see it, not necessarily saying it has to be that way, but in years past we had that player that just kind of like at times you could go DAM - they just balled. - I dunno I know making a lot of nothing but just different. - If I were an opponent, this current KU team would not be a team that intimidated me, they just don't look or put out that kind of vibe where they can do that.
I mean cause look at it, sure we have beaten the teams we should of Beaten BUT what would you say has been our best win this year ? - - Every time we have been challenged by other teams closer to us - - we have got beat. Duke ,Villa Nova , Baylor -what's our quality tier one win this year? Would have to be West Virginia.
I could easily see us losing at West Virginia - - - Baylor - - - Texas Tech - hell never say never to K- State upsetting us at their pig pen with their extra added motovaition -probably not but a chance. - -Like I said I'm happy with the way the Season has gone but just not had the socks knocked off, a lot of inconsistences Will still say IF we don't win the NC, you watch it's going to be what's been our weakness all year - -our inconsistent 3 pt shooting & Free Throw shooting. - -just some pondering thoughts guys. - - ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY
This post didn't age well... Just giving you a hard time, friend! @jayballer73 Seems like we are having some fun now!
Anyone know, did that ball bounce of that poor fella's head? Ouch!
@nuleafjhawk It's definitely more fun for us when they stay! Always hard to tell who needs what with regard to big checks. I'll never think less of a guy for doing what he thinks is best for his future. I am thinking more and more that Doke's check might be bigger than I originally anticipated!
@nuleafjhawk He seems to be getting better and better as he works his way through conference. Often we see players start strong and then fade as teams figure out how to guard them and scheme against them but at this point, who isn't doing EVERYTHING they can to stop him and he just keeps dominating. The rebounding recently has been insane! He's pulling them down in a crowd, going out of his area, etc. I mean, OK State was triple and sometimes quadruple teaming him in the post and he still finished with 19 points and I think as importantly only 2 turnovers. I'd like to see his assist numbers go up in those situations but most of that is on the guy he passes to being ready to shoot and being able to make the basket. Eight offensive rebounds is just insane when you think about what he does once he rebounds it.
I think you are right that he is primed to have a BIG March. That's why the OkState coach was talking about him being in the rafters. He did everything he could to stop that guy and it did nothing. He's too big, too strong, too fit, too skilled, and cares too much for teams to stop him.
A seven footer than can jump just isn't really fair.
@drgnslayr Did you hear Doke's post game? Sure sounded like he had a nice big chip on his shoulder. Talking about all the doubters and people saying he couldn't do it etc. My partner when she heard asked, "who has been telling this poor guy he can't do it?" Seems like he's manufactured a chip for himself and this team! Now all we have to do is keep it even though we are ranked #1.
@nuleafjhawk said in WSU grudge:
@HawkChamp Thank you, I'm familiar with the "edit" function. Also with the "Discard" function, as I have used both prolifically trying to respond to you and keep things civil. As far as "vile hatred" goes, you and I have a vastly different idea of what that means. I didn't say one time that I hated Wichita. It ain't my favorite place. That doesn't stop me from going there. In fact, we spent a fair amount of time and money in your fair city this past Saturday. My wife was shopping at Dillard's (while I was watching the KU game on my phone) and then we spent more money at the At Home Store, or whatever it's called.
After we shopped in Wichita for a good part of the morning and early afternoon, we headed south. When we came back in the evening, we were going through Wichita on 135 and when we came upon the "canal' that runs through town we both about threw up from the smell. One of the reasons I don't like Wichita.
BTW - I live in Salina. Feel free to say whatever you want about it. I probably won't disagree.
Ah the good old canal route. Can't say I miss that. My old baseball coach would give me a ride home from practice or games on occasion and always took that route and made us keep the windows down. He enjoyed making me and his son scream about that awful smell!
@nuleafjhawk I think if we are all honest with ourselves overtime would not have gone well for us. So basically you were right.
@nuleafjhawk It's a loophole that is clearly the smart strategy but I am of the opinion that Self views it as just that. A loophole, a cheat code, not really a "basketball" play. At this point I would guess Self would do it if a championship were on the line but in a regular season game, he still wants his players to grow tougher and not rely on a gimmick. It seems like a macho thing which like is the case with most macho things, means it puts extra stress on you for no real good reason. But that is not the failure I think @drgnslayr is referencing. That failure would be the inability to get even a decent shot in the last 3 minutes and struggling to inbound the ball against pressure.
Using and breaking pressure seems to be a pretty big blind spot for Self teams as of late. I seem to remember in the early days of Self I always wanted teams to pressure us because it led to easy buckets and it then made sense to me that Self would hesitate to use full court press because if his teams could score on it so easily why would he risk giving another team easy buckets. That has not been the case the last 5-7 years I feel like (I have no data to back any of this up, just vague recollections and feelings).
I really think he’s our third best defender behind garret and doke. He and Marcus will continue to terrorize big 12 offenses next year. He has the tools to be a good scorer but I don’t think that’s his role this year with dot and doke being so efficient and Garrett really coming on as a driver and passer. I believe he and Braun can reshape this offense yet again next year into a three point shooting outside in type of team. He’s a streaky shooter which to me means with the right practice and focus he can be a really good shooter. You can also see with some of the shots he tries in games (turn arounds and what not) he has confidence in his scoring ability even if he hasn’t shown it all the time.
@dylans I agree with this unless there was some absolutely ridiculous post ku accolades. Like say we have a one or two and done who goes on to win multiple nba mvps and championships and is talked about like Kobe, Lebron, MJ, Wilt etc. A once in generational type talent. Put him or her up there.
@BeddieKU23 pretty sure final four mvp Is already considered as part of the criteria. I think it’s automatic.
Also, this: 🐦 View Tweet?s=21
@BeddieKU23 Agreed. He is also starting to show that he has a bit more in his bag than he’s been showing. That drove from the top of the key, he’s taken a few dribbles after a rebound, who knows what’s next. At this point I wouldn’t be surprised if he shows up the combine knocking down fifteen footers. Maybe not free throws...
@drgnslayr I think Self is thinking the same way. Looks like we’ve been pushing it more recently. Our pace has been way up the last two games. The goal of these last two games seems to have been to get our guys comfortable pushing the pace and scoring freely. (I know our opponents have also influenced that).
Elam Ending! End of story.
@rockchalkwyo No doubt!
I keep seeing him listed as 6'2". Anyone think that's real? Also, is it just me or are his arms kinda short. Not like short compared to most people but like short compared to most basketball players.
Definitely felt like doke had more than 2 blocks and Ochai had more than 3 rebounds.

Uh oh. This team is starting to have fun!
@BShark I feel like this team was ready for the whistles to be swallowed and just got down in the mud with em. Not gonna call fouls? Let’s slap and hack along with em. A lot of our steals tonight are fouls most games. Good job by this team adjusting and playing tough instead of waiting for the whistle or complaining about not getting it.
As in how are we ahead?
How?
Not quite Mario level as far as hating to lose but he’s coming along.
I think that end game blow up is still in Dots head and he is trying to prove every game he’s a closer. He’s getting there.
We can’t shoot
@Crimsonorblue22 Ochai fouled on every drive. Checking his cheek for blood after that one
@BShark Have to make buckets at some point
Floo
