This is what we look like when Dotson rests. See why he plays 38 minutes most games!
@nuleafjhawk It's obvious someone with your wit understands the power of words! Just as a former English teacher I have strong feelings on the subject! They certainly matter to me!
@nuleafjhawk Yeah but see to some people it might. Ain't all about you!

Words make very little difference.
Strongly disagree.
@HighEliteMajor
from Muslim apologist Obama?
Tell me more about what you mean by Muslim apologist. I’m honestly curious.
@BeddieKU23 Don’t get me wrong, doke is better right now and can dominate at this level like few others, I’m just saying big picture professionally Dave will have more options because he at least has functional shooting mechanics. Also that rebound he got at the end of the WV game was a big boy rebound. No way doke gets to that ball.

I also know a lot of single moms that are way better than most two parent households.
Some of them even listen to rap music.
@tundrahok yeah I really do think Dave will be better than doke. Doke just hasn’t been able to develop any touch outside of 4 feet and he won’t be able to catch all those lobs in the NBA. Too many other monsters and super athletic bigs that can get just as high.
I’m confident Dave will develop a shot almost out to the three point line if not an actual 3 ball in the next 5 years. He has a great stroke from the free throw line and has been anxious to show his range a few games which means he sees them go in at practice.
I also know a lot of single moms that are way better than most two parent households.
@Crimsonorblue22 I just appreciate that the answer provided is to both make sure there are less single parent homes while at the same time putting more people in jail for longer. The math on that one is tough.
@BShark They even mentioned in one of the last two broadcasts that he was getting some extra attention on a leg pregame.
@HighEliteMajor I honestly think Dave will be the better player overall he just isn’t there yet. He has a better touch, quicker feet, and honestly tries harder. His hands aren’t as good and he is more mistake prone but I think his upside is way higher. I could actually see him in the NBA where with Doke I just don’t see it. I think we have to keep giving Dave minutes to develop and that’s what starting him does. He gets every game guaranteed time when the game is not do or die. I think it’s one of Self’s more innovative strategies for bringing a guy along.
Self knows if the game gets tight, he’s going to go with whoever he thinks gives him the best chance to win (see Christian Braun) but by keeping Big Dave as a starter self can assure Dave keeps a positive attitude and continues to grow. And if Dave is on, Self will let him go off. He had a huge game not to long ago and that can definitely happen again. But not if self gets too comfortable with the 4 guard, toughest guy, rotation and forgets to save enough minutes for Dave AND Silvio to keep them interested and fighting for playing time.
I’ve noticed Dotson trying to talk more too but mostly after he blows a defensive assignment and then points at someone else. Maybe it’s bad communication from the other guy but seems like he has been either left out to dry or straight up wrong on several easy buckets lately.
I personally think he’s dealing with some leg injury that just isn’t quite bad enough to keep him off the court. Jaybate would be all over his leg sleeves and padding etc. He seems like just the fastest guy on the floor marginally most games instead of the faster guy in college basketball by a wide margin like we saw at the beginning of the year. He’s going under a ton of screens and isn’t getting out to shooters as well and I would never call him lazy so it must be something in the legs or in the head that’s got him a bit out of sorts. Still in one of our top three players no question but closer to third than 1st at e moment.
I think this whole debate is moo. It’s like a cows opinion. It doesn’t matter.

That guy bear-hugging Marcus Garrett is surprised it was a foul.
As was the wv bench
Oh so you can’t bear hug a guy on an out of bounds play?
Braun might finally be tired

Lob much in our game plan?
As long as their game plan is undercut the jumper
Nice strategy to give them the smaller basket in the second half
This braun kid is ok

So, KU hit 40. The game is over right?
I think we can hold em
Garret reaches in again. Lucky no call
Was that a trap?!
I believe we are up to 2 minutes of good basketball
@Woodrow nah. Known fact shooters don’t play d
@DanR he was pushed
Bleeding from that “all ball” “bad call!”
@BShark thought you had to be in the lane...
@msanchez it’d be one thing if it’s just doke. But it’s everyone.
Found out why our guys are always in sleeves and pads and braces and boots and bandages.
The other players in the replies are great! Mitch...
@Crimsonorblue22 When Doke is making 80% of his 2s and Big Dave is going for 28 in 17 minutes, the attempt number seems about right. Our goal this year should really be to shoot and make just enough threes to keep teams from sagging and clogging up our massive advantage inside. Doke dunking on teams 3 or 4 possessions in a row is just demoralizing. If Dot, Ochai, or Moss can pop in a couple a game we should be fine.
@HighEliteMajor I feel like a remember a commentator talking about how Garrett can only go right and was then proven wrong twice in a row with left hand drives by MG. Not saying he is as comfortable going left, but he can do it. The other thing I see this year is that Garrett is not hesitating at all when they sag off of him to shoot that three ball. Yes he is still struggling, but I like the confidence and in any game if he makes 2 it's going to be hard for the d not to have to shift back.
Not sure if people read the link, but apparently Self did a lot to get Grimes eligible for this season. According to KU, Grimes left in good standing simply because there wasn't a spot for him. Made it even seem like it wasn't his decision but Self's. I'm sure that's just saying what needs to be said for the rules folks, but Self certainly didn't have to do that so makes me think he's wishing him well too.
@nuleafjhawk If he goes for 30 against us in the tourney I will change the name of this thread to something not so nice! I try to wish everyone well because especially with people we mostly watch on TV, we just don't really know as much about them as we think so I give everyone the benefit of the doubt as much as possible. I will say I did chuckle a bit as I read the article on ESPN thinking about U of H having a segment of practice designed specifically for Grimes. I'm a little jealous they are getting the Grimes we thought and hoped we would.
I think Mason and Graham are pretty good examples of KU's ability to develop guards. Have you seen Devonte recently? Dude is looking like an All Star!
@drgnslayr So true. And I think Garrett is a huge part of that chemistry. That write up on KUsports talking about how he gives all the guys a heads up on what coach is going to tell them before he gets on them was great. Plus seeing an upperclassman get big playing time for 3 years by putting team first makes the young guns want to buy in I think.
Interesting piece here on Grimes. Clearly he's getting more of a spotlight treatment at his new school and thriving there.
Interested to see Sampson call him the team's "best defender" and complement his "good feet." Crazy that we didn't see the same player here.
Maybe Grimes found a chip @drgnslayr would be proud of!
@DoubleDD You seem displeased...
Dotson was told to work on his lob game...
How about how fast doke runs the floor these days!
Dotson not improving that vertical anytime soon. He looks like his legs hurt bad right now. He’s slow (for him) switching like crazy on D, stiff and limping a lot. I’m a bit worried.
Dotson plays below the rim and that’s why he’s not high on scouts boards.
I agree with @drgnslayr that this team had no script or couldn't follow the script for dealing with pressure last night. They had one back door cut play they used 2 times to punish Duke for the overplays. Hard to say with so many turnovers if players didn't know where to be, made bad decisions, or didn't even have a plan. I do think this reinforces a lot of what Self likes to say about "cutting of the head" and why good defense on a point guard can be so important. Tre Jones cut of the head last night. His pressure up top set the tone for KU's offense. The only release valve for that pressure were the two back door cuts and then letting Garrett run the point. If Garrett is going to be the second ball handler on this team he has to drive to distribute better. He's improved with the ability to go left a little more this year, but once he starts driving there's no doubt he's going to try to take it all the way himself.
@HighEliteMajor Like for example, slashing corporate and taxes at the top of the pay scale hoping for more business investment, but then investment actually dropping? It's as if people with money operate with the mentality that they should do everything they can to hold onto that money regardless of its affects on the market, the economy, society, etc. And to address the inevitable "you just want my money" defense, I don't.
@FarmerJayhawk I read an something interesting but I can’t remember where that posited if we took all the money the government spends trying to decide who qualifies for certain benefits and making sure no one accidentally gets too much, there’s be enough left over to provide services to nearly everyone.
Never heard a libertarian arguing for universal income. Is that just a you thing or common among others you know? I’ll be asking my libertarian friends.
School choice worries me a bit because of the way some people have used that phrase to support the privatization of schools but I’d love to read your paper about it and learn more about your point of view.
Thanks for sharing and let me know when that paper comes out!
@HighEliteMajor Unfortunately according to statistics and facts racism still is #1.
When have I or anyone else ever said a person who shoots another person holds no responsibility for that action?
I’d argue more people are turned off by your blatant racism than my calling it out.
You try to bully people out of a discussion with wordiness and aggression. You’re very comfortable judging others and rarely if ever look inward. You routinely generalize about people while talking about the importance of the individual. You generalize about race, political affiliation, socioeconomic status and anything else you can think of the paint entire groups of people as the same so that you don’t have to think at all about your contribution to any problem. It’s always them and they.
For me people aren’t racist but actions, words, systems and policies often are. Enjoy your perfectly safe neighborhood and have a good evening.
@HighEliteMajor Ok, so it’s also and mostly black men and really if you think about it they aren’t even worth the trouble. Got it.
And how often are those black men stopped by the police? If police stopped white people at the same rate how many white men would be in prison for low level drug charges?
You want some why questions to work on?
Why in 2019 is there still not equal pay for equal work? Might employers like yourself bare any personal responsibility for that? Nah probably not. I’ve yet to see you take any of that personal responsibility you seem to love so much for anything.
@HighEliteMajor and is the color of Asians skins closer to that of white people or black people? Were Asians systematically brought to this country as slaves? Asians have certainly faced a good share of racism in this country but by percentages and degrees it is far less than the systematic oppression of black people.
Also, what discussion have I stopped or even attempted to stop? I’ve engaged with questions in almost every post encouraging the conversation. Please at least try to be intellectually honest and engage in good faith conversation.
Thanks for the links to the stats.
@HighEliteMajor We are both talking about our reasons for why. As the lowly school teacher you seem to have so little respect for it might surprise you that I too solve problems every day.
So just so I understand your stance, single black mothers are the biggest problem in our nation. And the reason they are single parents is “black culture.” And this is the driving force of the debate regarding paying ncaa athletes. And none of that has anything to do with racism or white people because “choice.” That about right?
Race is the #1 determining factor in predicting success of students in education. There are other factors but race is #1. Look at test scores, graduation rate, degrees earned, anything.
You can draw two conclusions from that data:
The educational system does not serve all students equally based on race.
Or
Students who are not white are not as capable of success.
Hint: the second one is racist.
