The whole situation makes me wanna drink the 5th....

This! π
@Crimsonorblue22 agree with you. It would serve Lon well to shorten the leash on Young and play more team oriented ball. Hoping he doesn't figure that out til we're done with them though.
Ttech could have trouble with Bamba. If they have an off nite from Trey I could see the upset
Mine too but I just can't help it. For some reason when you put branch and davidians together I just giggle... Bad person perhaps. Lol
@mayjay @JayHawkFanToo @drgnslayr the family tree that does not branch...davidians?
6 new notifications. This can mean only one thing... @Red-Rooster is out of the hen house!!! π
@JayHawkFanToo actually 16 seconds left and UK called the time out I believe cause they couldn't get the ball in. Pretty sure Cal waved them off when they headed to the bench cause he didn't have anything to say to them. They were just standing on the floor... amongst the cheer leaders. Deer in the headlights, like where ya want us to go coach? Tickled me
Anyone see the end of the UK SCU game? Lol. Martin calls a timeout up 6 or 7 with 8 seconds left. UK players head to the bench. Cal waves them off... Stay out there. You dont need to come over here. Haha
@jaybate-1.0 gotta be something to that. It was per @HighEliteMajor suggestion. Doesn't get alot more vintage or enthusiastic right?
Loving the enthusiasm. A win like that will do it for alot of us. Tough, tough, tough
There's only so many teeth left around there to knock out I'd think.
Biggest thing. Team defense 2nd half. Rebounding also improved. We don't have to out rebound everyone. Just fight more for them like tonight. I was proud of the team for their effort whether we won or lost. Much nicer to win and hopefully its something they can look at on tape and see the right way to do things and how they can improve even more from here. Should be a team builder, a toughness builder, and a confidence booster. Maybe just what they needed to turn a very important corner.
@mayjay I got no issue with it if someone can scream for 2.5. I say God bless ya and you're a daisy if ya do. I personally don't have the lungs or the stamina. Lol. I'm more speaking to the point of not needing a big play or a positive to be behind the team in cheering or being loud. But doing so in hopes of creating a positive for the team to get energy from.
@StLJhawk I understand what you're saying and largely agree. I'm just suggesting the crowd could come alive and will the team on defense to get a stop and things like that without them actually having to do it first. Let them know we're behind them. Doesnt mean scream at the top of your lungs for 2.5 hrs. The truth is the building gets as quiet when it's going bad as it gets loud when it's going good. Who is anyone to come into the Phog and control us as stewards of that hallowed ground? I'm even admitting guilt in this situation myself. But it's something I personally vow to change when in attendance. The players, the coaches, the building, the tradition all deserve it.
Tension is high, and who knows if the fans said anything to the WVU players involved.. it's probably not a great excuse to throw a punch but we aren't privy to what exactly may have taken place. Sadly it will only be a player that is punished in this situation most likely.
The key being that more than just the refs affect the outcome. Until someone plays a perfect game and still loses because of a blown call it won't ever be the refs fault anyone lost
Here's how I see things thus far..
We are tied at the top. With 3 other teams. All of which have played 2 games against the other top 3 teams. I'm not taking away from the fact that we are tied. But I feel in order to stay in the driver's seat we simply must steal a road victory from at least one of these teams. Monday is a great opportunity. It's not a deal breaker to lose even to two of the other top 3 teams right now. But it makes us have to rely on them faltering elsewhere. Which has happened during the streak before. So it can still be done again. But oh how huge would it be in Morgantown Monday... For the league race, for the teams confidence. Right now all that matters is the only capital in Wyoming... "W"
@HighEliteMajor all the years I thought we not only could but would win it all... And didn't. Years I thought we had no business making it as far as we did they some how made it happen. It is very weird indeed. And this team maybe the most weird of all. You said it. Why not this year. The entirety of CBB is funky. Nobody is a sure thing ever and it seems exponentially so this season.
Side note-I felt the 02 team had a better shot at going to and winning the ship than did the 03 team.
I felt the 07 team with Julian had a better shot at the ship than did the 08 team. In fact after the Davidson game I told everyone UNC would destroy us. I never believed that team would win the title until Mario hit the shot.
@BShark that one hurt for certain. I'm still stuck on 09-10 also... Last year after hammering Purdue I felt we were the favorite. 11-12 team I would have personally bet against after the first weekend. Self is poised to improve upon his tournament record. Even if it isnt a magic that happens this season.
@HighEliteMajor as I sat in Omaha watching Tyshawn and the lil Jayhawk engine that could stink it up for 39 minutes against Purdue they made no sense to me... I would have bet many $$ that team wasn't winning another game that year. Not saying this team has that yet of course... But who knows. They just might.. we shall see
@JayHawkFanToo true story. But still not a deal breaker in the league race. It would help immensely though obviously. I fear we would trade that game back to them on the return trip... Lol. But winning one of them either way right now would be huge.
@BeddieKU23 well if so I say we dub them de Bruce's
@BShark great point. And to me it's alot like this season for the team. It's not what were used to okay... We all know that. But it would only take just a lil bit of overall tweak in the numbers to make us better. Enough better to make a deep run. Increase the rebounding and defensive efficiency buy just a lil each game from now til March. Increase the ft numbers just a lil each day... If Izzo had 2 less FF's and Self had 2 more... Things that could've easily happened in that time span and I hope Self's numbers as far as the deeper run increase over the next 5-10. His ability to adapt to the game and improve upon the program over time with some recruiting wins I believe can make CS the absolute greatest coach in KU history. It is very possible
It's just the true measure. Like it or not. Beat the hell out of each other all conference season and yes it's exciting and I hope it makes us appreciate the streak that much more. Particularly if we're able to extend it. But nobody outside the conference will care or remember without March success. March success is the measuring stick. And why shouldn't it be? We hang banners in the Phog that say National Champion.
Sometimes I feel like Graham particularly just knows he's gonna get fouled. Or assumes it will be called and thus doesn't even really try hard to finish at the rim.. it bugs me. It is absolutely one of the major things Frank had in his game. Yes he would draw fouls. But he learned how to focus on finishing those drives also.
@JayHawkFanToo absolutely. And we will find out what this team is made of Monday. Win or lose isnt a deal breaker on that theory. But maybe just maybe they have the recipe to feed off a hostile crowd and win the road. I hope so. That's a team that will surprise ppl in March.
Bill is a class act on it and on most things. I'd like to point out that ppl should remember this next time ya wanna blame the refs for a loss. Cause it absolutely has happened here. I've always said. It's okay to complain about an obvious bad call. But it's never ever been the reason for a loss. And I've always said it's a k-state excuse for losing. Weber proved my point today. So next time anyone wants to say the officials cost us a game. I hope you'll remember this day. Don't be a Bruce
Danny has a solid recruiting class coming in. I think that's as big a reason for his extension as anything. I believe he will be given a couple more years to see how that class pans out.
Izzo is simply not overrated sorry. Ya wanna say he underperforms regular season? Perhaps. But perhaps it's taking some lumps to prepare for the post season and get his team closer to it's ceiling. Definitely a top 5 coach in the country.
Love it @DoubleDD one thing I notice that I wish we as fans would do a better job of is willing the team to make plays even when it isn't going well. All too often I see the team have to make a 3 or a dunk or a big defensive stand to get the crowd to come alive. I feel this is backwards to an extent and as you said the Fieldhouse house is sacred ground. We must always be loud. We must always be rowdy. We must always let the players, the coaches, and the Phog never doubt that we are the best fans in basketball and never let the best home court advantage in basketball ever falter
Think we're at a point where we can go ahead and say that more has been known with BP's situation all along honestly. As much as we may wish to believe it's just a complicated situation/paperwork pain the ass etc.. clearly there is much more than we know. Which is fine also. Also fair to assume there's a or many major issues involved in his case. Don't recall who said it earlier in the season. But yep... "Billy we hardly knew ya"
@BShark exactly!
He didn't say what time zone... Its always 5 o'clock somewhere
Wow. Lol. Now that made me laugh. Some folks just need to tell you it's pitch black outside even while squinting in the sun...
@Jayballer54 preview of Mondays game? Lol
Waiting for BP to get cleared is ya might say like waiting on the 2nd coming of Jesus. π
@BeddieKU23 if we do find it available for purchase somewhere. I personally hope it's one of those infomercials that goes on and on. "But wait there's more", "and we're throwing in this with the deal". Yes, yes for the love of God. Give us all the extras and triple the order. We know...we know. We will be happy to pay the separate processing
@HighEliteMajor he is the guy that can rest Graham if he can play like that. It actually gives us a lil more depth without adding anyone in my opinion
@Crimsonorblue22 it's true he was. And I believe it was his award under normal circumstances. Perhaps some of the luster of giving to ML has to do with the somewhat surprising stat line. Not that we shouldn't think he is capable of that. Just for all his effort this far it hasn't produced results quite like that until now
The BIFM junkyard dog of the game award. And yes. ML
@HighEliteMajor as far as capable I couldn't argue. It's possible. But I have to think it's not highly probably when you consider the competition particularly sweet 16 and beyond. It's fair to assume they would all be top 20 opponents. Which we are what 2-2 vs thus far? 2 of the L's being in our own building which is odd and probably an anomaly as it were. However, it could also suggest this group has the recipe for post season success considering they have won against top 20 on the road and neutral both. Will be interesting to see
Well I don't believe I'll ever grab a donut again without thinking twice.... Could be a terrific dietary plan
@BShark no disrespect but I prefer @BeddieKU23's idea. Lol
What exciting times we live in! Will the streak stand? Will this team find itself? Will we get a deeper frontcourt? Will they become great and special at just the right time? Stay tuned bucketeers!! All these questions and more to be answered... Any day now π
Something has certainly been off with Vick. I've also thought he looked injured. Or tired.. or perhaps it's just a mental thing. Either way an obvious slump for him right now. Hopefully it isn't an injury. We sure need his game.
@JayHawkFanToo absolutely Coach Self has an extraordinary record. That is not in question. But do you really think the numbers you posted are a clear picture of what I'm talking about? A break down of how many of those games were tied or were led by say 2 points or less and also trailing by 2 or less with a minute to go would be more realistic. How many of those were blowouts? That has no weight. If anything it has merit to support what I'm saying. We run offense or try to that is for 39 minutes which generally builds a lead obviously cause we win over 80% of the time. Meaning that strategy works. As I've said we hear Coach talk constantly of the ball sticking and how we labor to score when it does. I don't think it's inconceivable to ask why we move away from what clearly works when the game is tight and on the line. I'm very inclined to say obviously to CS the risk isn't worth the reward. He would rather the opponent doesn't have the opportunity to beat us in regulation and that we maintain possession and thus the chance to win the game or let it go to over time. I appreciate the time that you and @jaybate-1-0 have taken to explain your thoughts on it. It helps make some sense of it. Still not certain I agree with it. But I doubt CS will lose any sleep over that π
@chriz "Bill Self himself". That sounds funny. Lol
@jaybate-1-0 you have illustrated the scenario with brilliance. I appreciate your effort on it. I can see the value. However, I'd still maintain that is absolutely playing not to lose rather than playing to win. Which generally costs the team that's doing it. I don't have the time to go back and watch all the games we have used this late game strategy to find the numbers. Maybe it does work better than 50% of the time. Sure doesn't feel like it though while it's going on.
Well... I was hopeful for at least "any second now". π
@wrwlumpy incredible!
