@wissox still work to do. But is looking like more of a probability
@KUSTEVE could have been or still could be a different player. Absolutely. Why not. It's only a theory.... A possibility. All it ever was.
Right now after what is 4 straight wins? The consistency is looking better. The chemistry is looking better. There's momentum. There's positives to build on. Still don't believe this team as a whole is at it's peak yet. And right now. That's a good thing. I believe Self knows how to get them there. And I believe with every season that passes he learns more and more about how to get them there at the right time. I've said all year... The ebbs and flows.. we know where we're at right now and we know which one we like better. But it takes all of it to reach the "ceiling".
Hey it's completely possible the "cancer" thing was really a thing... Really happening.
I mean nobody ever actually said it was... Someone simply asked the question. Then pointed out some things that brought about that theory. So was it a possibility? Absolutely was.
Maybe Coach Self just plain figured out the proper treatment. Also very possible. The chemistry was bad. "Self" admitted. Now seems to be on an uptick. I love that word.... Uptick
What an unbelievable and outstanding accomplishment. Great job players and Coach Self!!
@jaybate-1.0 I agree with you. It feels oddly stage-managed...
And the deeper it goes, the worse it gets I feel.
I dare say there may be some validity to others suggestions that someone is after bringing the NCAA down. For whatever the reason. Look at the last 6 months. Pitino, now Miller, quite likely Izzo. These are not small fish, and who knows?? It's probably not over yet and may just be getting started.
@mayjay true story. But isn't it just further evidence that basketball is a team sport? Not that having a POY doesn't help. But look at some of the teams that have stacks. Managing too many egos? Things like that. How often do those teams actually cut down the nets? Seems like not often. Not sure how OU gets POY type players. Perhaps it's like this year. Trae Young wanted to be THE MAN rather then 1/5 of the outfit. Idk
@approxinfinity I'm with you. The tournament is fantastic as is. Less teams would maybe give the best team a better chance to win it all but would also take away from the overall experience and prestige that goes with it. I'm not for expansion either honestly.
I could be wrong of course. But I just don't see UConn staying irrelevant very long. I don't think they'll tolerate that. I believe they will get rid of Ollie and upgrade. It's terrific discussion though. Interesting to think about. But would I personally take a few down years in order to have 2 or 3 more banners hanging in the last 15 years? I certainly would. Especially if I know the program overall will simply not tolerate irrelevance.
But I agree with those that say why can't we have both? Certainly seems as though being competitive and at the top of the conference on an annual basis gives a better chance of winning at the national level also. We're not all that far away from having those couple more titles as is... If a few things would have happened. They didn't.. but who is to say they won't in the next 5-10? Coach Self is at the top of his game and growing daily in my opinion. Adapting, innovating...
He's far too competitive to not get there again. We just all want it now. Myself included. But I believe it's coming. I firmly do believe that
Definitely saw the 08 throwback. But also wondered if it was because we seem to play better in blue... Although. Big Monday this week would seem to dispute that
Quite simply put. Sometimes well enough is just not left alone. And there are those that need to poke the bear. Well don't be upset when the bear bites back.
OU simply has to be on the bubble if not out right now don't they? I don't see justification for anything otherwise. Don't have time to look it up. But I wonder of any other team has lost 6 straight at any point during the season and still made it. And that's 6 and counting by the way...
Maybe it's time to bring the dark side back so those if us that prefer to challenge things and actually have a discussion beyond sunshine and roses, Bill Self is infallible, unquestionably profound genius in everything he does, and cannot be critiqued. The lite siders can just stay there and not have to read anything that may produce a cognitive thought beyond the divineness that is Coach Self and everything KU basketball 24/7. It may be a good way to relieve the personal attacks and temptation to poke at other posters at every opportunity.
I've never put any stock into the refs determining outcomes. Generally it's just poor excuse for losing. Garauntee there's always more you could have done to win. Basketball is a thing of beauty to me in that regard. Nobody has ever played a perfect game. EVER. You don't have to listen very hard at all to realize Coach Self feels this very same way about officiating. Having said that. Very few ppl are actually objective about it. The way to tell is very simple.
Have you ever actually blamed the refs for your team winning???
Or is it only bad reffing when they lose??
Most ppl... Probably over 95% it's the later....
Very cool story
While we're at it. I think that would make it back to back to back when you include this year. 😁
It is fairly peaceful. I mean I have had almost no expectations for this team from early on. Even winning number 14 is very much in jeopardy. But idk if I care. Maybe it is time the streak goes by the way side. Take the pressure off of that. It would be nice. But I could see the advantage either way. The disturbing part of it isn't that they lost yet another home game. It's simply that there was little to zero effort for at least the first half and a couple stretches second half. That is simply uncalled for.
I don't think we played poorly at all for 15 minutes. Apparently someone deleted the memo that this particular game would be 40 minutes. In any case. There is no team in the country that I've seen that's softer than we were first half.
I don't come away from this one with an "almost won" feeling. It's more like a lucky it was single digits feeling. Just my opinion I guess
Either team would have beat us today. Handily
@BeddieKU23 contacted truth there.
I was looking ahead to Omaha and perhaps foolishly optimistic on both accounts.
@BeddieKU23 and most likely in our bracket
I'll still take JA...
And I don't mean friends JA
I'm talkin horrible bosses JA
All day
@BShark ya I was not laughing a bit in Omaha that day...
@kjayhawks kinda thought Temple was silly to storm the court. Even though it was a mild one with only 50 ppl there.
@Jayballer54 you won't even claim her openly... You don't deserve her... 😋
Okay... If Jenn Aniston was my fling. It wouldnt be a secret. Everyone would know. Including my wife. That's something to be proud of right there.. 😊
It's mostly a standard 2-3. We've seen a lil morphing and Self has already said they've moved into a lil tri&2 diamond/box and 1 a possession here or there. But I suspect he isn't showing all of those cards right now. If we're still playin in 55 to 60 days you'll see it when it matters
I'll ask again... Has Huggins lost his team?
What's wrong with criticism...
For the love of God. What grows and changes for the better without the learning experiences and thus the created motivation to do so.
Step 1 is identify, step 2 is wash it off....
Stubbornness/denial=no growth, no adaptation, no improvisation, and not overcoming... And it's not even becoming..
Coach Self like all men is a work in progress. This is undeniable. Even he knows it. If not how could anyway explain his adjustments? If not how can you explain the fact that Udokas ft form has already changed. Overnight quite bluntly.
Identify and wash off/fix the problem...
This is growth, and that's the voyage, and that's the victory.
I just don't see any way around a minimum staff deficiency on the Udoka ft issue. I'd like to. But I'm sorry. It hasn't been good from day one. Therefore any moment during that time when used on fts could be used to make that more profrecient. Yes there are other areas to work on. And yes we've seen those grow. All on the up and up. No question in mind. But to say that there just wasn't any priority or that other areas were higher priority or anything of the sort is to suggest that it was simply never seen or thought about in a sense. And how can this be? The % has been awful and the technique from the word go. Which is quite simply negligence in that area. There's nothing we can do to go back. And frankly I'm sorry for Udoka that it took the debacle in Norman to take steps to correct this. The silver lining is that the idea that there was no way to adapt or improve upon it at this point in the season was clearly "Billshit". Honestly. More and more the ability to adapt, change, and grow which in my opinion we've seen more and more from CS of late is what may well end up making him the absolute greatest HC in KU basketball history before he's finished here. I submit to you all... We are on the presipus of a very very exciting time for KU basketball. I can't wait to see how it all goes down.
Newman has been bringing the ball up more. Which is helping Graham rest a lil. And... I may get stoned to death here but lately I'd rather have Newman driving the ball late clock/late game. He simply finishes more often than does DTG
Some call it coach speak. Bill Self has it mastered. I suggest in our case we could probably call it Billshit
Ah the ebbs and flows of a long season. Gotta love it
I understand there's alot of Meth in Missouri but the guy didn't have to do it ALL at once..
@kjayhawks you'll know if he starts hitting fts
@DCHawker you're not wrong. We've all seen it happen on an annual basis. There's no reason to believe this year is any different. All the numbers and the ratings and yada yada. We see it's all talk when nobody really walks the walk after weekend 1 largely. Ratings and numbers don't earn respect. Post season wins do. It's gonna take an improvement in that area before anyone really believes the lil10 is the top conference.
@BShark not saying you're wrong. I was looking deeper than just today's game though. They don't seem to be what they did just a couple weeks ago honestly.
Has Huggins lost his team? Or are they just tired? Pressing all the time taking it's toll? I mean. I know they'll be ready and give us a run or beat us in our building cause that's the way of things.... But what's up with them. They were so hot just a few games ago.
Smh @ the lil10. What is it March already?
I will say that I'm not above it if it helps Udoka. After all I'm offering to do for free what our Multi million dollar HoF coach has said he isn't gonna do... Why not? Lol
Seriously though. At this point do we really ever see Doke becoming a great outside shooter? Even mid range largely? I honestly don't. So the point that it would mess up his shot is simply wrong. There is absolutely zero shame in shooting them granny style or whatever anyone wants to call it. It can be the Dokthrow for all I care. I respect that much more if it's effective than having too much pride to do it that way cause it's different than what most do. He may be one of the anomalies of the world that needs to do it different to be successful. His shot already looks different... Much different... And ugly ugly ugly. Anything that puts the big guy in a successful shooting Percentage from the line is what the goal should be.
I knew at least one of us would take credit for it!!
@jaybate-1.0 I admit I haven't seen anything in that format. But truthfully of you're comparing to other players who are incorrectly listed also does it really help? Lol.
I'm just trying to compare him to what else I see on the floor I guess. Which I admit is also probably not legitimate.
I've mentioned this before. Nobody has bitten on it. Is Doke really a footer? He doesn't look it to me at all. Closer to 6'9. And if he isn't dunking he plays closer to 6'7. I assume it's cause he's heavy. Although he has done tremendous work with that and will continue to if he sticks around.
The idea that you can't work on changing his shot at this point in season is just foolish. What's he gonna do go 0-7? Big deal. From the sound of it the strategy isnt gonna change moving forward...
So... Same strategy, and same mechanics=??? I guess alot more "This is on me, I screwed up"
@HighEliteMajor exactly. The comparison is laughable at minimum.
Not trying to change Dokes ft mechanics midseason is almost as epic a meltdown as leaving him in the game tonight. Or actually could be a much larger meltdown. I absolutely 100% detest that decision. Maybe the dumbest thing I've heard yet. I mean seriously?? Do you think you're gonna hurt his ft shot so bad that the percentage actually goes down?!?!?! Or say it oh...idk costs us a game?!?! He has ZERO mechanics now!!!! Gotta be FN kidding me. Teach the kid how to shoot a damn ft...
There is zero chance he hits any more fts percentage wise in practice. Zero. He has absolutely no mechanics whatsoever. The ball never hits the same place twice. This is not the shot of an individual that works frequently on that shot. Simply no
Absolutely on CS. Plain and simple. And it has nothing to do with teaching a lesson. You teach players the mechanics of a free throw in practice. Which has clearly not been done. The team had this game won. The coach was outcoached by Lon Kreuger... Smh.

@HighEliteMajor I was playing golf then. Since that time, I had to get a new hobby. My wife calls this "your little basketball friends group."
Haha. Priceless. My wife says what are the buckets sayin? Lol
@mayjay the situation leaves plenty to be wondered and griped about if that's what ppl choose to do. I'm happy the team doesn't have to deal with it any longer. They can just go play with who they have. They can grow into everything that specific group can be with out being hindered by it all. I'm more excited for the team we have. It's a good day to be Jayhawk. Maybe this group will really really come together as is now. I'd love to see it.
Happy it's resolved. For the players that we have. And now that our regularly scheduled basketball season has been interrupted... Back to basketball fellas. Only the team we have will take us wherever it is we're going this season. Work hard. Go get all ya can get Jayhawks.
