Can't seem to post a "new topic" for whatever reason. Sorry to jump into this one. But damn did the volleyball ladies ever get shafted tonight 😠
A win is a win.. Frank is once again the man.. and although I say this every year... sad face.. why for the love of all that is holy is our late game offense 4 guys standing around waiting for Mason to make a play... I fail to understand this. There is no explanation. Why do we run offense the other 36 minutes of the game if that's the best option? Now, ya may argue that it worked.. tonight.. Frank hit the shot. Won the game for us. But I disagree to a point. I believe if we run good offense the last 4 minutes instead of the everyone stand and watch Frank game. It isnt close enough to require a last second heroic from Mason to win the game.
Disappointing loss. No question. Certainly had chances to win the game. The rebounding is the biggest thing that sticks out for me... we will have to have a vast improvement in that area. Fortunately, there's alot of time to do that and I think Self will put the pieces together in a way that gives the best chance to do so. How tough is Frank though... 30 pts and 7 rebs. Add 9 assists. But I say as I did last season. If Mason is going to be our best rebounder were gonna struggle. Bigs have to step up
@jaybate-1.0 asked where @HighEliteMajor is. Idk. But I certainly hope it's in coaches ear. We could use alot of that at the moment. Love that it's early. A season can culminate in many different ways. But I do have faith we have the right guy to make the best way come to fruition
@jaybate-1.0 true story for him. It's gonna take a lil time. You can especially see it from the corner to the baseline. Buy its a rarity to get all of that on day 1
Thought we were supposed to rank near the top of Self teams defensively.... 103 later
... FUCK!
@Bwag exactly. We dont live in 1950. Today's a shooters game
@BShark agreed
@HawkChamp agree with that on Devonte. Thought he was actually more aggressive tonight though. Still room no question
As I said before. Lucky it's early. Very humbling. Now maybe we can get past the hype and get down to business
@JayHawkFanToo refs aren't the issue. Ksuck excuse for losing. It's far too tired
If not for Frank Mason. Were not even in this game
All that hype... damn. Long season. Long way to go
@BeddieKU23 why do guys always seem to get "career night" vs us? Ugh...
@Bwag damn that's as tough as it gets...
@Bwag one important one shy...
May wanna go ahead and skip the pleasantries and sightseeing in NY. Work to do. Much work to do
Damn... game
Jesus. This may be be double digits...
The good news is. For the long haul. It's not a bad thing to realize the BS behind the rankings and be humbled into working really hard to earn it the rest of the season
Rebounding ... or the lack there of, will be this teams undoing..
Gonna be ugly ball the rest of the way...
@jaybate-1.0 not a good place to be. Lucky it's very early...
@VailHawk I said last season that LL was not a D1 big... I took it back after he showed he belonged. Problem is ee need him to belong. Now!! All season. No questions asked. He is capable
@HawkChamp true story. And KUdoka looked jittery. To be expected. They will get it
@kjayhawks plus 1 million
@BShark you will see. Listen to Cragar. Cragar he is good. Cragar he is wise... 😉
@DanR they can't run with us. Cream will try to slow it
@kjayhawks Kenneth.... not cool
@kjayhawks what are you drunk?!?!? 😁
@BShark well dammit that's 4 more pts we could have!! Hehe
@kjayhawks not the only... poor transition d. And dammit were not blocking out... miss FTS. Not moving the ball well enough often enough..
After a call like that. Promise ya @kjayhawks is bout to chestbump and official
Next practice Mason puts on a rebounding clinic for the bigs. Must happen
Dammit we gotta rebound...
@kjayhawks Mason our best rebounder 2 yrs running... minimum...
@Crimsonorblue22 makes the biggest difference
Can't afford to wait until the tournament for LL to the tournament LL. Come on kid. You are the big man
@DinarHawk completely understand your position on that. And yes. You could be right. Problem is. We will never know. How would the team look last night or at this point in the season or in late march/early April... What would Bragg, Diallo, and Mich look like now if they'd had more minutes. More development up to this point. Unanswerable speculation no doubt.
Well now we have sacrificed a loss while continuing to go with experience. Will that change anything?
Funny thing about pressing. Takes so much energy right?
Okay this is rec league I'm speaking of so doesn't count probably. Right? Except that basic mathematics applies...
The last year I coached my rec boys(6th grade). I had 6 boys total. Pressed all the time... Until we were up 15 and then it was against the rules. We were up 15 alot. Every league game in fact. Ppl would say. How can ya press and press and press with only 6 kids. Don't they get too tired too quickly?
Well.... No. In fact. They don't. Why? Simple math. Get the steal on the full court press and look how much that cuts your running down. Even if you play great half court D. You still have to run all the way back to the defensive end and then create a steal/get the board etc. And then run all the way back to your end for offense... But you full court press. You keep the ball on your end of the floor for longer if you do it right. You can exert much more energy to get the steal or turnover or 10 second call etc... To say nothing of the fact that plays like that which turn into a layup or what have you become a huge energy boost for your team. And also can be a huge deflator to the opponent.
Also teams that are very good a pressing... Usually aren't very good at breaking the press. Another reason not to let the other team put you in as many situations to be pressed. It's playing your game and not theirs. It's attacking rather than conserving. Playing to win instead of playing not to lose... But as always. Execution is required to be successful. Me? I press WVU tonight. Full court. 40 minutes
I'm usually one of the first to call Ellis soft. I'll admit that. And as a post player I still say he is. Compared to guys like Trob and the Morrii or Darnell Jackson. Etc... He was our best player tonight and it isn't even close. And he has been tougher of late. I'm not gonna discount that. Hope it continues for him and for the team
@drgnslayr he absolutely has to be referring to Ellis. Tonight nobody else comes close. Sadly
On a positive note. Ellis definitely stepped foot off the plane. Was good to see that for him
@truehawk93 I'm not sure we've yet purchased one... Lol
@Crimsonorblue22 I absolutely hope the best for any of our players and Lucas included. But i don't have a hair of a notion why he's in a Kansas jersey. There's been far better players that ended up transferring to a place that better suited them. And I think this is actually a case where he would do better for himself and another team elsewhere. Luckily I'm not the coach. If I were he wouldnt see another minute here. Bill is and its his choice. It's my choice to disagree
And hey. Hate me if ya like. I'm sorry. Lucas belongs in an NAIA jersey. Idk how he got a D1 scholarship. And especially not to an elite school and ball club
Am atleast happy I won't have to hear anymore "undefeated in the lil12 this year" bs anymore. Idk who ever would have thought that to begin with. And yes. Nights like tonight are the reason why some say this still looks like the team that lost second round to Wichita state.
This is pretty embarrassing honestly. Unbelievable to play this badly. Just too many guys off on the same night?
Darn I thought we might lose this. But it'd be nice to atleast look like a D1 team. My goodness fellas
