Maybe I read wrong on their size. Literally, everyone on here and KUSports has said TRob was taller by a couple of inches.
Guys training for strength don't do big reps. That builds mass, not strength. Where was that clip showing Selden's monster clean and jerk? Big time reps build mass. So you think Arnold Schwarzenegger had the strength to match his size? That guy was pumping reps of 250 lbs on the bench... a weight more than half of HS football players press.
I played with X for the most part of a summer and I've stood beside TRob. TRob is clearly taller by a couple of inches. X was strong... but like TRob, it was his motor that made him a good rebounder.
"so Hudy builds air muscle ? I'd like you to tell TRob and or Hudy that!!"
The air muscles was TRob's doing. Anyone can do that. I've done it and looked like the Hulk in a year. Hudy directs guys to improve strength for playing. A few guys do extra to build air muscles. AW3... same thing. Probably the guy who improved his strength most under Hudy was Withey... where was his bulk? Right... he didn't have it because he wasn't doing all those extra volume reps pumping up air.
You really don't think all that mass is backed up equal to someone who built the same mass their entire life, do you?
Haven't you guys ever pumped weights? In a week I can look huge, so can you.
I'm not saying TRob doesn't have strength. Or that he didn't improve his strength.
Has anyone in here ever gone to a gym? I really have to explain this?
Back in my college days we'd go to the gym at 5pm on Friday just to pump up before hitting the bars.
Selden is another guy like Cliff. Both arrived on campus with big time strength. I'm sure they both pumped some weight in HS but those guys mostly have the right genetics... or they've been pumping the right kind of iron since 7th grade. Selden is a beast in the weight room. I bet he can out dead lift TRob by a huge margin.
TRob picked up most of his size over two summers of lifting. Air muscles. Same with AW3. If we could judge strength by muscle mass, AW3 would have left for the NBA by now.
Xavier McDaniels was an excellent rebounder. He lead in college and did well in the pros. He was strong, but he wasn't known for his strength like he was for his motor. TRob is a taller version of the "X-man." Rebounding is a lot more than just who is the strongest. It is a factor, but it isn't everything. You think the X-man was the strongest guy in college ball back in his day?
I'm not saying TRob is weak. Simply... he isn't as physically strong as Cliff.
We can argue forever. It doesn't matter because we all just have our opinions and we have nothing to prove it on. But I've seen a million guys who built air muscles like TRobs. If he lays off weightlifting for a few months he's shrunk down to his old self. Sure, guys with air muscles have strength, just not as much. It's more than just building muscle size. Plus... Cliff has a lot more weight on his frame. I heard he is 20 lbs heavier and two inches shorter. That is a huge difference from TRob and he's cut.
I like Oubre = Hombre
Nice and simple... and a man.
I couldn't rewrite your post any better than you said it. I hate liars and cheats, too. That's why I have disdain for Calipari... going back to his start and what got him to where he is today, by being able to over-recruit when he had nothing to sell. He washed his hands from any guilt when he was always claiming to be his players' best friends. Best friend who just didn't seem to know anything.
If Roy didn't know then he should be let go... and if he did know... we'll see what the feds do.
Bill better know where all his players sit academically. If they are bad students they better have tutors and work hard to improve, not get a free ride with paper classes.
I hope the feds come down hard on UNC. I have nothing against UNC, but this damages the reputation of all college education, because it brings up a question of legitimacy everywhere, not just UNC.
And if KU is guilty of the same thing, they should get hammered, too.
Some people need prison time.
Awesome!
So let's see what happens. Go up to that post and rewrite it the way you see it. I'm cool with that!
I want to know what you think about it.
Here is the rub:
"Williams also defended the decision to bring Wayne Walden, his academic adviser at Kansas, with him to North Carolina in 2003. The report claimed Walden "steered players into these paper classes.""
So... do they follow the "paper classes trail" all the way back to Kansas? Did this junk happen in Lawrence? Does this junk happen in Lawrence?
There has always been the history of advisers leading students to easier classes... and there is nothing wrong with that. But these weren't real classes and professors grading.
I can't believe Roy didn't know. If he didn't know, then he wasn't being a responsible coach. These are student-athletes and every aspect of their lives is monitored to try to keep them going down the right path and not damaging the reputation of the universities. Roy just turned away from watching. Kind of reminds me of Penn State.
Something is wrong with this thread. I can't edit my post.
TRob isn't known for his strength (except with KU fans), he is known for his motor.
test
I respectfully disagree with you guys.
TRob was a toothpick until he pumped iron for a couple of years. Cliff's strength is mostly natural. I'm a big fan of TRob, but those are posing muscles. Pumping iron for a couple years isn't going to match natural strength. Not even close. Cliff is shorter and heavier, and he's already trimmed off the baby fat.
I'm not talking about dunking or whatever... I'm just talking about strength. Self has already discussed his monster strength.
Go to a gym and look at the poser guys. These aren't guys that are going to challenge weightlifting records. You do a bunch of reps and build size and get the Hercules look.
We used to call them "air muscles." If TRob was so strong he would be dominating in the league. Tar is stronger, because, once again, he has more natural strength. It is his strength that is earning him a career in the league.
TRob's claim to fame is not his strength... it is his motor.
Cliff is a beast. He'll be a beast on most (or all) of D1 competition.
The question with him is fouls. Self relates him to an early Tar.
You guys are right... and the comp was small. I still think Cliff will make a huge impact immediately. But against real comp his propensity to foul will be an issue.
The guy is clearly stronger than TRob was, even in his last year at KU. I'm not comparing achievements. TRob had a freakish motor that continually sucked up rebounds like a hoover. I'm just saying Cliff is stronger. The potential is there.
I love it all! I'm the shark in "Jaws" swallowing up this entire thread.
Feed it to me!
We have to take this game for what it is worth... about 2 cents.
What it exposed more than anything was the foot speed this team has. They get the ball up and down the floor fast, but what stuck out was their lateral quickness. This should be a great CS defensive team by the end of the year. I know... we are missing the big shot blocker. It would be nice to not need one to clean up bad guard defense for a change!
Frank "the Mole" Mason is going to burrow through players and defenses this year and they won't know how to stop him. Other teams really can't mimic his play for preparation anymore than they can mimic a player like Embiid.
I hope Svi can get it together this year, because he is going to be an outstanding player and very helpful when we need to find more offense. If he doesn't stand out this year then he surely will next year.
Cliff is a friggin' beast. The comparisons are not fair with TRob unless you are comparing TRob's final year with Cliff's freshman year. Cliff is clearly the stronger of those two. I'm sure other teams will go at him and try to get him in foul trouble. He'll have to play smart and aggressive. His teammates will have to help protect him from fouling by hedging the defense to stop the interior pass.
Perry... I don't know what to think. I've been buying in to all these improvements on his game and his desire to step up and lead this team, but it certainly wasn't on exhibit in this exhibition. Well... Perry will be tested soon enough. He'll have to earn his keep versus Kentucky. That will be the game that really shows us where he is (or isn't). 1 rebound in 20 minutes. Are you serious? Perry had nerves to deal with his first year and now he seems like he may be too comfortable out there.
I couldn't recognize Wayne. His body has changed a lot. He is a lot more trim and cut. He moves so much faster than he did last year. His numbers weren't outstanding in this game but I think he wanted it to be about our freshmen in this one. As long as he can stay healthy, he is going to romp some serious backside this year!
I know we played nobody, but Lucas is for real. He's steady and he has the best fundamentals on the team. He is going to have a productive year!
Bam-Bam was a bit too psyched up. However, his energy was there and he is laying down the law that he will be our Kevin Young this year. He is going to have some big number games this year. He may not be the model of consistency, but he was a steal catch for us because he will definitely contribute big for us this year.
Devonte is going to be outstanding. He's the first real PG we've had in a long time... He showed us he is capable of playing above his age and experience level already.
Brannen looked good at times. He still needs to lower his center of gravity and use his athleticism to a lateral advantage. That will free him up for wide open shots that he can bury if he does it.
Kelly.... he is going to be really something this year. I love his energy level and the kid can flat out ball!
Woah... is it me, or does Cliff look a lot more cut all ready! Dude looks absolutely ferocious!
"I am with @Crimsonorblue22 on this one. Craft and Frankamp are completely different players with opposite strengths and weaknesses."
I think I goofed my communique... I realize the difference between these two players. I just feel CF needed to get the same scrappy side as Craft. CF and Craft have different skill sets, and CF only weighed 165 lbs soaking wet. But he has the capacity and potential attitude to become a scrappy player. That was a way in which CF could have earned big minutes in a Jayhawk uniform.
BTW: great to see some brisk conversation in here again! I guess everyone is getting psyched for the season to roll in!
@nuleafjhawk - You do get carried away sometimes... that's what I like about you! Keep it up, bud!
"maybe even Cal doesnt have to be as slimy as he once was"
I believe that to be true. He has way too much to risk these days by putting Kentucky under the microscope of the NCAA and have them disqualify seasons and tourneys.
But I still consider it slimy when he recruits players through "star persuasion." That takes advantage of kids thinking like kids. What should matter is how coming to Kentucky will help a young player advance his game... not getting an intro with Drake. I find that to be very slimy.
"If everything falls into place we may see some Jordanesque comparisons in years to come."
I think the league is too risky today for guys to make too many wild finishes at the rim. Wiggins will save his body (and career) by staying more selective on when he finishes at the rim. Personally, I'd rather see him save his body. He'll still give us endless highlight tape by using his athleticism away from the basket.
"Can Cal develop guys subbing 5 for 5?"
His recruiting conversation concerning development is one, singular message: "You will be playing against the top players in college every day in practice. What more could you ask for?"
His other recruiting conversation is: "Look how many great NBA players I've put into the league."
Did HE get them in there, or did THEY do it themselves?
He totally sidetracks away from his lack of ability to coach development. He used to defend his inability to coach development by making excuses that having a player for just one or two years is not enough time to develop. I'm sure there are many competing coaches playing those interviews to current prospects to help recruit against him.
I don't think Wiggins grew as much as he could in a year while playing at KU. I know his development will take time... many years... very much like Kobe's development happened when a young Kobe entered the league. I don't think his constant mishap attempts at finishing everything at the rim was a good way to spend his year, unless it is to teach him NOT what to do! He's already pulling back completely from the style he played at KU and is learning what the word "pull up" means.
All he really needs to do is watch old clips of Kobe to see the right approach for a guy like him. He should avoid most of the Jordan tape because Jordan had freakish abilities to finish that Wigs or Kobe will never have.
I'm sure Wiggins learned a lot at Kansas, but those undisciplined forces at the rim was nothing he needed to take to the league with him, unless he wants to just get smoked and hurt.
I'm ready!
I've got my DVR set (so I can irritate my wife by replaying the game 3 or 4 times).
Luckily, she's a KU alum, too, so she tolerates my obsession!
Craft plays like Conner needed to if he was going to expect PT. I think the biggest difference was CF is a perimeter shooter, not so much a PG, and Craft was not a shooter, a definite PG.
The point was the scrappy play of Craft, and he represents what CF will have to do to compensate for his weakness. No one questioned Craft's ability to play d... he's all-d in the B10! He's a guy who understands x-axis and that 96% of the game is played in an area where he can dominate.
Few know CF better than me. I've watched him since he was a tike. He has the ability to scrap every bit the same as Craft. He just needs his body to catch up to his mind. A perfect situation for Hudy!
I'd rather play Wichita State than Mizzou... at least WSU is a program tilting upward. I'm not trying to start that discussion again because most everyone in here has their opinions seated well and unlikely to change.
At least with WSU we play a ranked opponent. With Mizzou, their low status and high motivation to beat us is definitely a no-win situation!
"IMO Conner's defense held him back, more than anything."
I think we all thought that last year... and he clearly couldn't defend well enough in D1. But the word was out that he worked hard on his d over the summer and was vastly improved. That fed into people like me that Conner would definitely earn plenty of floor time this year. That matched my opinion of CF; he is a guy who will find a way to contribute.
I really thought CF would become another Aaron Craft. Maybe not this year... but by his junior year he would become a big factor and a huge factor by his senior year. The focus was off his volume scoring, and became more about his will and attitude, and projecting that on the floor, also to inspire his teammates.
That as the Conner Frankamp I felt like we lost on Friday.
You never disappoint, @ralster ! Nice post.
I don't think we should feel slimy for going after OADs. The relationship of OADs and slime is mostly the product of Calipari, especially a few years back when all he had to sell players was slime. You would think that his current prestige with OADs would mean he doesn't have to sell so much slime these days, but he still is Calipari.... so, once a used-car salesman, always a used-car salesman (I apologize to all the upstanding used-car salesmen reading this!). Today, Calipari is selling recruits with "star persuasion"... meaning... new recruits will get to meet Drake (for example). It has been sickening to watch Cal change as other college coaches catch up to his recruiting. He can no longer talk about how he is the only real choice for getting someone into the league (which was bs in the first place).
We don't have to feel slimy because we will still do whatever we can to develop players, even if we only have them for one year. I do believe there is a learning curve involved here. I definitely don't think we developed Wiggins well in his one year. Self was perhaps a bit too hungry just trying to satisfy Wiggins, when he should have been harder on him and he should have had a more focused effort on maximizing the skills he did have (and help him realize where he needed to develop for the next level), but instead the effort was put into Wiggins just being cut loose to the rim and always trying to make the next highlight clip. Wiggins should have focused on just a couple of areas of mid-range to score from, rep those moves in practice, and try most of the time to get his shot from those spots... same direction most NBA players take when developing (like Kobe).
"Slimy" should be related to the structure around college basketball. Everything from junior high to HS to AAU to NCAA to NBA... There are elements of slime in all of it, mostly because there is no way to really protect the interests of the young athletes. The biggest consideration (that is ALWAYS swept under the rug) should be to prevent the slime from starting when these kids are minors. And there really isn't a way to protect them, except for the NCAA's fascist reach into their lives before they play college basketball by putting down laws that have the same kind of controlling factor as a sweatshop in China. Fact is, these minors do not have control of their lives, it is being dictated to them.
You must be psyched for this year! I have a good friend who is all about Badger ball and he can hardly sleep in anticipation for this year. I'm not quite as fanatical about them, but Badger ball is definitely growing on me!
"AWIII will be great in the Big 10."
All that weight training made Andrew an absolute perfect fit for the B10! I believe he is going to be a huge contributor to Husker ball this year.
Go... Andrew!
"Self said, "but we may have also gained some chemistry issues" "
Kind of makes me wonder if Conner was nudged out the door. I don't mean that from the perspective of Self trying to make recruiting room for next year. I mean that from the perspective that Self just wasn't seeing minutes for Conner this year. If it is the latter, Self is being a very good coach by thinking of Conner's interest first, even ahead of the team. All players really want is a coach that will be straight up with them.... and not string them along.
As far as helping chemistry, it is bound to help chemistry because more opportunity will now be available for all our guards. Even though these guys will be losing a friend on the team, they will be gaining a better shot at more minutes... something that is bound to get these guys even more motivated.
I feel sure that Self played this right, especially with a home-grown always-Jayhawk, Conner Frankamp.
I feel that adding Svi to our team, late in recruiting, was the final blow. He represents too much for Conner to challenge for minutes. Even though Svi has his issues, mostly needing discipline on when to shoot, everyone is raving about his ability to shoot.
I would love to see him land at Wisconsin. But what about his size playing B10 bruise ball?
I think this was the toughest decision young Conner has ever had to make in his life.
I know it caught me off guard. He seemed to be one of those guys that could never see himself being anything else than a Jayhawk. I know it was his brightest day ever when Kansas offered him a scholarship.
I'm saddened by his lost. He's the kind of guy that would have found a way to contribute to his team, regardless of the struggle he would have to go through to get there. Because of that reason, Kansas lost a valuable asset.
We all knew his shortcomings... his uphill battle. Size was his biggest issue. He also needed a bit more athleticism. Weigh that against his excellent basketball IQ, shooting ability, competitive spirit and ice in his veins in March.
I was hoping Conner stuck through all the struggle because I felt, in the long run, he was just that type of kid that it would make him that much better of a ball player. That is just my opinion. Maybe he is doing the right thing to go somewhere else where he can get some real PT and have a definite contribution role from Day 1 (when he is eligible again).
I'm not sure I see him going to WSU, but I know he often attended Shocker games before he enrolled at Kansas. So who knows.
Another aspect few have spoken about. But what about after Conner's playing days? Does coaching interest him? I wonder if he will get the maximum benefit of everything that goes with being a Jayhawk moving forward? Sure, he will always be a Jayhawk, but he won't have the 4 or 5 years of experience under Self that would look extremely good on any coaching resume. Look how many guys that have ties to Kansas are coaching in D1 and NBA.
I wish Conner all the best moving forward, and I hope he realizes his dreams. He's a great guy and will always be a Jayhawk!
Very cool. We had a link posted on here months ago to another site that had this on all pro players, just not quite as pretty graphics.
I'm certain it will be coming for D1, probably this year however the digital logistics are considerably more challenging because of the number of teams (and players) and the consistency of record keeping varies from school to school.
Hey... I see search tags added now to this site... great job, guys!
The word has been since spring that Perry has been working on stepping out for the shot. Guys improve their outside shot when they work on it, and I have no indication that Perry won't improve, even considerably, on his perimeter shot.
Self has mentioned that Perry knows he needs to carry more of the load this year. We'll just wait and see, but I believe he will. Part of that relates to his personality, and he'll have to come out of his shell more if he hopes to carry more of the load.
None of this is relevant to my point... even if Perry makes steady improvements, he'll never get the attention of these OADs, even if he puts up better stats than OADs. He's old news, especially to all the non-KU fans. All the focus goes to super young talent, the new kids on the block.
I don't believe at all in your assumption about players not advancing their games in quantum leaps past their sophomore year. Take Jeff Withey as an example. He never reached his potential even in his senior year, but look at how much he improved every year. Many of our guys have steadily improved all 4 years. How about TT? He made big time improvements in his senior year. You really think Embiid only has 12 more months to make major improvements in his game? Really? Or Wiggins?
Coaches that say a player has reached his limits are coaches that don't know how to coach up players beyond a certain level. Truth is, these coaches have reached their limits, and talking about players limits is only a reflection of their development abilities, because they have years of knowing to what level they can help a player reach... and their vision stops there.
I'm not going to rate Perry on his NBA potential. We all know he is a 'tweener and the road for him to fall on the right side for a solid NBA career is a long haul away. But that doesn't mean he won't be a crucial piece to a team that can go far this year, and he will deserve attention for making noticeable improvements in his game.
I want the best recruits, too.
But let's look at Perry Ellis. If everything goes right for Perry he is a guy who will serve 4 years at Kansas, and will have made big improvements every year.
If he can become a more dominant offensive and defensive player over the next two years that will be a big achievement. And he can add the long ball to his tool box. And more ball skills. He will earn his way into the NBA by working harder than the competition because he doesn't have some of the natural gifts other players have.
That is a long road for Perry, and he will have worked his butt off, including changing a bit of his own personality during the process.
Still.... Perry will never receive the same attention as the hot new kids on the block. It has taken him too long to acquire the attention of non-KU fans.
But what is more impressive... a kid with a lot of natural talent who is steering it to a basketball career? Or a kid who went through a long tough process of D1 that required him to work hard for 4 years and build skills that didn't come easy, while adapting his personality somewhat to better fit his role?
I always favor those players with an uphill battle. Perry is one of those players. So is Conner. And I believe both of these guys are going to do nothing but improve (big time) every year!
Gosh... when is our first game? Baseball is done, bring on basketball!
"How many times do we have to see over-hyped Freshman not play up to their billing to realize that these lists give too much credit to High School seniors?"
It's our society. Our society wants new, fresh talent... it's always the NEXT player. Part of that "instant gratification" process.
Teams that build with non-OADs require fan patience. That team's fans will be there, but the country wants to experience the new greatest sensation.
Super congrats, Jesse!
You definitely deserve the accolades!
Series just finished.
Bumgarner is so good that he changed destiny. This WS was destined to KC and Madison changed all that. He won 3 of their 4 games in the Series. I thought it would be tough for us after losing Game 4, because if you do the chess at that point you have to look at it like it will go 7 and we will still have to beat Bumgarner to win it.
I was skeptical after Game 4, but Game 6 made me believe we would find a way to beat him.
Let's hope this young team creates a big chip on this for next year.
Regardless... thank you Royals for a great run! They weren't supposed to make it anywhere near as far as they did.
Great!
I remember the indoor track when I attended KU in the late 70s. I lived just down the street from AFH and would go there in the wee hours of the morning because they often had open gym.
I forgot about Maryland, UAB, USF, Colorado, SIU, FGC and MSS...
Chances are we wouldn't get UNC anyways. I'd be okay with swapping in another team.
From this large group we could surely get 3 other teams to go every year.
Could this be the year for the Kansas City area?
Royals
Chiefs
Jayhawks
How about 2 out of 3?
Seems like both good and bad luck often comes in bunches. Maybe it is our year for good luck! I'm hoping the Royals will trigger it off and we'll be celebrating in April!
Nice!
And the next question is answered.... Kentucky has 6 and 2 in the just missed category.
If you consider that we almost beat them in the NC game without a single McDs AA, then you have to like our chances when we hook up soon.
Okay... the Royals are still alive. They have to win two at home to clinch the title. Doesn't sound impossible... but consider San Francisco's deadly weapon... Madison Bumgarner, who will be available if the series goes to seven games. Madison may be on the threshold of becoming one of the true superstar pitchers of all times. Kansas City must first win tonight before looking ahead at a possible rematch with Mr. Bumgarner. Can the Royals sweep the next two games?
Kansas basketball is about to start a new season, with a team consisting of several returning players, and several top tier newcomers. Can this young team that will be led by a relatively inexperienced point guard win it all this year?
Come place your bets:
Which team has the best chance of winning it all, the Kansas City Royals or the Kansas Jayhawks?
It seems like the Royals have the easiest path. Just win 2 games. Then consider what Madison did to them twice in the past week.
I'm with you.
How about we form a preseason tourney... "The Naismith Classic"
Here are the participants:
KU
UNC
Wake Forest
SMU
Does that offer Kansas some favoritism? Yes. But more, it connects the dots with our legacy and it lifts the significance of all those coaches. I'm certain we wouldn't have a problem with WF and SMU... how do we get Roy on board?
Thanks for the link. I visited that page and they mention interviews... but nothing about showing historic building footage. I would think the focus would include the building itself. There are so many great historic photos and film going back to the construction and of course, on to some historic games. I think a lot of us would like to see interior shots through different time periods. I'd like to see the dirt track images and when they laid the floor in for the first time... stuff like that. Maybe material on the "pay heed" banner. It is always great to see old game footage from Allen.
Maybe I want too much. Does anyone know if there is a historic DVD on Allen available out there somewhere?
Here is an amateur (mini) version of what I'm looking for:
[link text](
I've just come from the Kusports website. I was expecting lots of video from the 60th anniversary shindig, but only caught a few photos and story.
That makes me think someone will be producing a DVD from this milestone event.
Does anyone know if that is the case? It makes sense and when throwing in all that timeless footage on AFH, I know I'd line up to buy one!
Rock Chalk!
The more I look at it... the more I want a "knuckle up" shirt, too!
Might be a good theme for this team.
All true.
I'll never forget my high school academic adviser telling me to just take another sports study hall class because I had the minimum requirements fulfilled for HS graduation. That was a painful lesson when I advanced to college and had to take many non-credited hours in order to fulfill requirements at the college level.
No one was putting effort into me to "just keep me eligible" because I was never on a sports scholarship.
Right on, Tar!
"And why are they getting caught? Well, more and more players are leaving school with worthless degrees while seeing the university profit from their abilities and they are speaking out - see McCants accusations, which now seem to be ringing very much true. "
And so many of these athletes graduate, or leave college somewhere in the middle when they were clearly never qualified to be in higher education. We've all seen it in the media for years now.... college students/graduates with a 2nd grade reading/writing aptitude, etc.
How are they allowed to get that far in education with their lack of skills?
The problems root back far before they arrive on college campuses. This truly is an example where the feds need to jump in. I hate to say that, but unless these issues are addressed on a federal level, from investigations to policy changes to reinforcement, nothing will be accomplished to change what is happening now. This is way beyond the legal scope of the NCAA.
I agree with everything you said... except I'm not sure about taking "kubuckets.com" through a licensed vendor. I've worked in product development, and sometimes we've looked at going through licensing and it was not only expensive, but there were minimums. Needless to say, we didn't do it.
In our case, I would use Cafepress. They have legal people and everything they do has to be qualified, or it gets pulled. Even if you just want to order a Jayhawk tshirt for yourself.... if you put up a Jayhawk logo on any of their products, they will pull it.
If we run into any issues from this using Cafepress, the most that will happen is the images will become disallowed from either a cease and desist, or if Cafepress legal department believes there may be an infringement so they require us to provide proof of ownership.
Our situation is nothing like Joe College.... who printed many many designs that clearly infringing... he profited from the sale... and he disregarded their cease and desist orders. It really is hard to side with a business like that because he showed no willingness to comply with laws, even after repeated efforts were made (more on his behalf than the university's) and he still refused to cooperate. That business would be alive and prospering today if he would have followed the rules, and he could have either bought into licensed goods, or he could have avoided infringing on their rights and still had a good business.
"I take some comfort that kinds of kids we are recruiting has shifted..."
RIght on! And would kids with a background of academic excellence be interested in going to a university where diplomas are diluted to nothing more than a piece of toilet paper?
If the claims are right at UNC, that has a degrading impact on the reputation of the university, hence following all the way down to the diplomas earned by hardworking students!
If the claims are true... shouldn't the entire university be investigated in depth to make sure there aren't other situations with questionable ethics? If I was a student at UNC, I would want that. I would want the entire university investigated and (hopefully) given a clean bill of health to help legitimize the education standards used there.
This whole thing stinks and I am hoping for the best possible outcome brought on by a transparent investigation.
I'm not thrilled with our justice department, but it seems like this may be approaching their jurisdiction more so than the NCAA. The impact goes far wider than athletics.
I agree... everything we can do to differentiate our look from KU licensed gear is a move in the right direction... and we really don't need to be similar because our buyers will buy it because of what we do on this website. I'm sure we can stay clear from the university and their legal hawks.
I totally understand their point of view, and as a generality they try to steer people far, far away from anything even remotely resembling a connection to the university, because when they start formalizing communications of allowance the fences continue to get closer and closer to what they are protecting... and it is more than revenue dollars. It is also their reputation.
