I made light earlier as there is nothing you can do to about the path of a storm, but Westmoreland was hit very hard last night. Tough deal.
@BShark Glad you escaped major damage!
@kuballin10 Yeah Iām excited about Wiley too. Boom or bust I suppose, but a 4th rounder is not much of a gamble.
@kuballin10 whoās your horse? Worthy vs the field? Iād take the field too if I lived misery, but thatās just an odds play.
Iām betting on Worthy to ball out as he has the skill set to do well in this offense. Mecole Hardman had 800 yard recording in college and was a converted DB. Worthy had 2500 and was a true #1 receiver. Not a good comp.
Whiffing on DK was due to Hill drama and needing a speedy replacement - panic move and a bad one. No need to panic this go around.
@nuleafjhawk I always enjoyed watching people freak out in Lawrence over 40mph wind, in all honesty itās funny as hell as thatās a nearly weekly occurrence here during the spring.
Seen many a tornado. The odds of one actually hitting your house is so infinitely small itās not really a concern -plus I have a basement and good insurance. If there is a tornado in all likelihood all I will experience is hail, wind, and rain.
Usually in a nasty storm itās better to go outside and see whatās coming than hunker down all scared in the basement. But I live in an area with zero hills and very few trees that werenāt planted. If you can see them they really arenāt that scary, just be prepared.
During the most recent local tornado I was out in a few wheat fields working. I lost the pictures or Iād post there here, was an impressive cone.
I mean whatās a spring without 80-100 mph wind? Happens a couple times a year in western Kansas. Removes the weak structures and dead branches from trees. Ugg - know someone whoās houses (x2) got completley leveled by tornados on back to back nights. First one was in Greenburg, the second was their farm house south of town. Always thought that put it in perspective.
The coolest thing I can remember associated with a tornado was over our farm there was volleyball size hail. It went thru roofs of vehicles and trailer houses. Dadās pickup had a hail stone hit the windshield so hard it pushed a phone book into the dash. The fields around there looked like the surface of the moon with up to 10ā craters from the hail - when running a tractor across it with sweeps the compaction from the hail was enough to make the implement sway back and forth.
That said I would love some rain even if it comes with tornados and hail. This drought is getting bleak. And I need a new roof.
@AsadZ Iām excited to see Worthy in that offense. Kingsley was projected to the Chiefs in the first round in several mock drafts. Wiley learning from Kelce is very intriguing. Hicks was a second round talent and a potential replacement for Reid in a year. Low round picks are always a flier, but the cb has excellent traits and Veach has a good eye for that position. The center can play the entire iol. The G prospect is just a guard, but ol depth is weak so heās likely to make the team as well. It should be 6 of the 7 make the roster.
I could talk myself into an A or a C. In Veach I trust, itās an A!
@approxinfinity fair enough.
@approxinfinity Do you believe the 2013 roster wouldāve gone further in the tournament with Furphy than with Wiggins? I donāt think they make the tournament with Furphy instead of Wiggins.
I donāt get the Furphy love. He had potential, but did nothing for KU. He did not suck, he did carry himself well, but he did nothing for KU in the big picture. No individual accolades. No Big 12 title. No Big 12 tournament title. No NCAA success. So whatās the big deal? Heās completely forgettable. His time in Lawrence led to nothing - no increase in viewership, no increase in wins, no recruiting bump, no hype, no substance, no revenue bump, nothing. Heās just one of those players that left a year or two too early to make an impact.
@Zabudda said in Keeping track of the ever changing 24-25 roster:
Another post about my grand nephew he was just selected by the Jets in the 5th round. 6'1" 220 rb. Isaiah Davis. Hope he makes it good.
Cool. Best of luck!
@approxinfinity I believe they won the conference and finished 10th with an incredibly weak roster led by freshmen. Furphy did nothing (nothing wrong, nothing memorable in a good way either) - Hunter and McCullar carried the team. Without Furphy KU won at a better clip than when he was inserted into the starting lineup over Elmarko. Thatās likely because McCullar went down, but where was the Aussie? Napping during the second halves.
Without Wiggins KU wouldnāt have won 20 games. That roster was weak. Without Embiid they lost early in the tournament. With a healthy Furphy a national championship winning point guard and the best big money could buy KU flamed out early this go. Furphyās biggest contribution to KU hoops was his down under white trash hair cut. šāāļø
@approxinfinity except both Embiid and Wiggins carried that team. Furphy did nothing but disappear in big moments while completely healthy. He may become a great player, but he wasnāt one for KU in any capacity.
@rockchalkjayhawk If DBs jam him and miss⦠TD. But it could also look a lot like Tyreek vs Sneed in the SB if he doesnāt add some muscle.
@jayballer67 They must think pretty highly of Puni to trade up to get him!

Aw, shucks.
He would have been great as a sophomore. What a pickup though in, what was it, July? Just amazing. Hope he does well in the league.
An incredible success story. I remember one basketball guy saying it was a reach for KU and Furphy was maybe a midmajor talent.
Iād contend KU wouldāve been better off without Furphy or any other one and done that doesnāt contribute to post season success. He never carried the team nor did he contribute to much on court success. Furphy is going to be the answer to an obscure trivia question down the road of KU lore. He had an unfortunately forgettable tenure. There is nothing he did wrong, he just didnāt stay long enough to make any impact.

@dylans I think he has better hands than Hill at this moment. I think this helps open up the middle for Rice and Kelce. Baring a huge suspension for Rice.
I havenāt really watched him play much, but from what Iāve been reading drops are an issue.
His sophomore year he had 7 drops, but he also had a broken hand. The other two years it didnāt seem to be an issue. Iād hate to watch another player drop balls like the WRs did last year!
@jayballer67 50 was awesome! His conduct was less so. Glad he didnāt get tossed so he was able to extend the series.
Worthy is not Tyreek. Tyreek was a converted RB. Tyreekās neck is thicker than Worthyās thigh. Iām hopeful he can be more of a DeShawn Jackson type. Worthy was super fast at the underwear Olympics 4.21 forty (set the record). But he also showed his speed in games. Not just a speed merchant he stacks the DBs well to gain leverage and tracks the ball very well. Time will tell, but usually when Veach trades up it goes well (this trade up was to get ahead of the 49ers who had reportedly targeted Worthy).
Worthy. Hmm. Heās fast and can track the ball. Might work.
@rockchalkjayhawk Iāve all but given up hope for the Chiefs drafting a first round WR. Itās been on my wishlist for awhile. š¤ But hereās hoping! š

Snag Small and add a third new pg to the roster. Not looking to upgrade ball handling/scoring at all. š
@BeddieKU23 Auburn, Kansas - his two colleges his HS senior year. He could have 4 more schools on his resume before heās done with college!
@AsadZ nothing east of the Mississippi. It was nice pulling RussRob right away with Bill!
@BeddieKU23 So itās like eBay and KU is winning with 5 minutes left - itās nice, but doesnāt mean much. Wild free agency period.
Andy Reid has signed a contract extension thru 2029. Thinking about his time in KC and Philly it kinda mirrors what Roy Williams did at KU/UNC. Williams/Reid both had high levels of regular season success at KU/Philly, but each has won 3 championships at their next stop.
What was the game changer for each? And why did their successors each win championships where they could not?
For Reid itās Mahomes. Iāll just stop there. How Pederson won is more of a challenge to explain, but that team was good.
For Roy I believe he found an easier time recruiting in UNC. As for his successor - Bill can recruit anywhere.
@jayballer67 I thought he was getting interest from Alabama. Why would he transfer in conference to a team that won 4 games last year in the pac12? Half of Coloradoās players are transferring out because of the culture after last years mass exodus too. He may leave, but it seems more like an attention seeking move. Diva?
@jayballer67 lol Colorado is a hot mess.
@FarmerJayhawk lol. Yeah The Brotherhood has 7 in the portal like KU did last season. Can lead to some big time team construction issuesā¦
@approxinfinity Maybe the hockey model will become a thing in basketball too. No reason not to under the current rules.
ie NBA team drafts a hs player and designated him to a certain college team or set of teams at his choice for development⦠ahem I mean allow the student athlete to pick a school to develop for 2 years (not the 3 hockey requires) before becoming league eligible. The nba team would have a more developed prospect under contract and the full term intact once the player is called up.
Itās a business now. I donāt know why they donāt completely eliminate the ncaa and make the new hires sign binding one year contracts pay a signing bonus and be on to the rest of team assembly and coaching. Recruiting and re-recruiting the same commit several times per year is exhausting. I hope it doesnāt drive Bill into retirement.
It is well known that Harris would be back this next year. Surely that isnāt the reason Philon is wavering. Hell Dejuan told me last year he was playing two more for KU and he doesnāt know me from Adam. Everyone knew Harris was coming back.
@kuballin10 And if they canāt beat out that what does it say about the āsuperiorā talent? š keep up your narrative buddy.
@BeddieKU23 For me it makes the loyal cats like Harris all the more endearing, warts and all.
@jayballer67 they seem to forget Ruppās roots.
@AsadZ At least he hasnāt slapped anyoneā¦
BYUās coachā¦. Kentucky got shot down by everyone!
@rockchalkjayhawk Unintended consequences. Who knows how it will play out, but itās all changing
I wonder how long universities will continue to receive public funding for semi-pro sports? Will it come to a vote like the Royals/Chiefs next time they want a new arena!?!
@approxinfinity said in Arterio Morris:
Its funny that the first 3 articles that come up when i google arterio morris refer to him as āex-kansas player arterio morrisā. Cant get the stink off, heās been hangin round for daysā¦
Ugg. Too true and he didnāt play a game that counted for KU.
Need to amend those articles to say Ex-Texas Longhorn (SEC! SEC! SEC!!!) player Arterio Morris. š
Hope he comes back to finish developing, but if not itās next man up.
@Gorilla72 They can have him. I wouldnāt care if he played like Mike, Arterio is dog shit stuck to big Jays shoe. Scrape it off and move on until the stench wears off.
@Gorilla72 Many rapes donāt go to trial. Itās hard to prove and traumatic af.
@jayballer67 bright side
KU and Duke. Favorites to win it all next year. š š š let the unrealistic expectations begin.
Iād like to see an upgrade at that position maybe a guy who shows up for the second half of games. I was hoping that would be sophomore Furphy, but I donāt know if he will ever be able to achieve that level of consistency. I do think he could lead a team by his Jr year, but Freshman Furphy was at the level of solid bench piece on a championship level team.
If he goes itās disappointing that we wonāt get to see him develop into a more finished product. He does have lots of potential.
@BeddieKU23 Zach Edey needs to shut up. If he wanted to make money, he should join the workforce. He was the national player of the year last season, how did he improve his draft stock by coming back?
And as for the lack of NILā¦thatās the terms that every single player before NIL played under. If he canāt figure out how to make it work then thatās more of a show of the instant gratification culture we live in than anything else. Getting better would pay dividends.
@BigBad Dialloās team won the conference. But yea he did nothing for KU and is somehow still in the nba scoring 3 points a game at 27 years old. (Well in 21-22 he was in the league). Iām thinking Dialloās biggest contribution was to the chat board conversations.
That NBA teams think he is ready surprises me. Furphy absolutely sucked in the second half of pretty much every game he played at KU.
While Furphy at times completely outclassed the entire roster, if he truly leaves he will be the least accomplished OAD in KU history. Furphy helped KU to its worse record since they were on probation in 1989 and he did absolutely nothing at an elite level. Iād love to watch him continue to develop at KU, but if heās going to go pro I wish him the best in Europe or wherever he ends up.
