Donāt hate the young man. Hate the decision making process that brought him here.
Any word on what the Chiefs got from the cowboys for 6th round pick 1?
Yikes theyāre ridiculously bad. I thought they hired Tampa bays old coach not the marlins.
š± Rough.
@Kcmatt7 Iāve seen Mahomes break the laws of physics and levitate horizontally while tossing the pigskin in the Super Bowl. If that happened in Madden I wouldāve been pissed at the game engine for cheating. š
@AsadZ That one has me scratching my head. Time will tell.
Kinda laughing at the Eagles drafting every Georgia player they can. Havenāt seen that strategy work before with āBama players, will it work with Bulldogs?

Not too hard to find unfortunately. Multiple articles in the last couple months (including the Topeka rag). Curious how many there will be in the coming months, hopefully about how his character has improved and heās doing community service and is sorry for previous missteps.
I donāt want to further attack the kid. He is in the fold now and I hope he can become a model citizen. I just donāt like the decision to take on the risks and negative attention associated with him. By all accounts heās a very good basketball player. I hope they can help show him how to be an equally good man. But itās still on Artās shoulders to put it in action every day.

How has your view of the program changed?
Before I could defend Kansasā virtue to the KSU homers. Now I really canāt. Itās changed my view from my Roy Williams tinted good old boy routine to one of cynicism. Jaybate was unfortunately more right than I wanted to admit.
I guess Iām more disgusted in the lack of a convictions that fans have. If this guy played for UK or Missouri we would slaughter his character and the programs for selling their soul for wins. Since he signed with KU Iāve already seen people trying to justify his actions. (Heās not a bad kid/she made it up/he didnāt do it/itās not that bad/etc). If we held the program to higher standards they would not be able to stoop to these lows.

Hmm. I hope Self isn't the sports reincarnation of Robert Johnson.
Robert Johnson the musician that died in his 20s?
Care to elaborate?
Lol 40 point blowout in game 6.
Hope Bill can control our new loose cannon better than Memphis did. Ja - just wow.
@AsadZ Draft gurus all fell in love with the Tennessee receivers - Hyatt and Cedric Tillman, so they are going to blast the chiefs pick. They also rated the beast from OSU Dawand and Marylands tackle higher.
Rice I donāt know much about. He led fbs in receiving yards @112 per game. Supposed to be good at high pointing the ball (41ā vert was best at combine for receivers).
Dawand Jones is an Orlando brown type player and Veach has already tried that experiment. Huge, but slow. The tackle he selected (Wayna) has quick feet, but needs to work on both his footwork and hands and could anchor better. Heās played both LT and RT so good for a swing tackle if he doesnāt win the RT job outright.
I am cautiously optimistic.

I am not overlooking this but agree many are, basically trying to hand wave the issues away. Mostly my twitter mutuals and other people I talk to within the fanbase feel similarly to me, but I've definitely gotten into it with some people on this one. One basically had nothing of value to say so he just kept saying "didn't ask" to w/e I said so I just blocked them. I went to multiple games last year, but I'm definitely not going to games with Morris on the team.
I had plans of getting seats a couple rows behind the bench for a game (UConn or a conference game), but this changes my plans. Iām torn. I love KU and didnāt have a chance to go the last couple years. Now I can physically go, but Iām not sure I fully support whatās going on.
@BShark Yeah. Iād love to ask Self what heās thinking. Why so desperate to win? Whatās he trying to prove?

I would rather lose with high character players, than sell out morality for wins. But that really isnāt the only option. Good people play ball - Jalen, Ochai - both great human beings and proven winners. Just because heās a Jayhawk now doesnāt change my view about Morris, but it does about the program.
To play devil's advocate, Jalen could have killed someone drunk driving and we wouldn't be including him in the "good" list. He knew he was off the track he wanted to be on with that DUI, and Jalen is also a redemption story. Hopefully Arterio is choosing a positive environment because he's ready to be positive.
Arterio has never shown remorse, nor faced any punishment.
Jalenās bad judgment surrounds hypotheticals - he couldāve hurt someone. Arterio did hurt someone,
willfully. There is a significant difference.
This just feels like a bad dream. - Iām being punked right? Bill living in the portal Self surely didnāt identify a woman beater as one of his top targets and aggressively go get him, did he? The sad thing is Allen Fieldhouse will be sold out wildly supporting this guys ability to play basketball in spite of his off court actions. - Alabama lite/ Texas North?
Is KU basketball so important to us fans that we can completely overlook character in favor of god given talent? For some the answer is clearly yes.
@TYOHawk Are you really comparing a DUI to domestic violence? We jump the shark so fast as a society.
Jalen handles himself in an extremely respectful way. I would be proud to call him my kid from what Iāve seen of him. Yessir, no sir, makes eye contact, payed his dues for his mistake. - yes a mistake.
There is zero excuse for what Morris did as itās portrayed. Sure people deserve a second chance - but it should be a privilege to play basketball for KU, one he should have lost for his lack of character.

@rockchalkjayhawk FAU / KSU š
Solid pick. Productive player at a position of need. Signals confidence in Niang at RT. WR talent is mostly 2nd round talent going in the first round due to positional value. We shall see what Veach has up his sleeve for rounds 2/3 tomorrow. WR/DL/OL ?
Gotta admit I do enjoy a Lakers loss as much as win. Both bring me joy. LeBron is a decent human being, but a whiny beotch. When he loses itās good entertainment between his fanboys, Lebron and the noises they make. The AD drama is just added entertainment. Buncha prima donnas.
Isnāt Von Miller a bit old? Lol no clue who youāre talking about @jayballer67
š© š© š© š© š© š©
Tyson was claiming discrimination (spit on by coach)- one of the few reasons acceptable for 2nd transfer waivers allowing immediate eligibility.
@jayballer67 I bet they win more games this year than last. That roster was not good. Prime is an asshat, but that roster is garbage. His Jackson State team had more talent.
Every next generation has been the one thatās going to ruin everything. š
@BeddieKU23 The last game I attended was the game Silvio went wwe cage match on K-state. Ugg!
@rockchalkjayhawk They like to talk trash after the fact - a Duke move. Ja is not a good human being, but heās an amazing basketball player. Glad thatās not my team - would be a conundrum. Prefer to be a white hat guy.

3 of the 5 top players on the TTU NC appearance team were transfers.
There are 1400+ transfers in the portal. KU can only take 3-4 of them. There is SO much talent out there to be had.
The more players in the portal the more stratification of talent.

Why not something in depth on Zion?
Would be wildly more entertaining. Zion is still (kinda) relevant. Who outside of die hard KU fans and haters even know Billy Preston exists?
KU only played 30 games in a season 5 or 6 times before ā83.
KSU has never won 30 games in a season.
A recent Texas addition to my Kansas neighborhood left after a year - taxes are too high in Kansas. Property taxes are outrageous and we have state income tax. Thatās for the birds if you arenāt accustomed to it.

@Kcmatt7 I took accounting classes at KU. I would be terrible at your job. I donāt have the attention span for that type of work. It takes a different kind of dedication. I appreciate the work that you do, as I canāt.
@Jethro Iām beginning to get more curious what the actual annual NIL budget for KU is. As long as itās unregulated go hog wild as one of the big boys. I do wish there would be some sort of āsalary capā or some better solution to promote equity.
You can make fun of the greatest generation if youād like. - We simply arenāt built that way anymore. Those men and women were amazing in their dedication. Could you imagine people banding together in a crisis and pooling all resources instead of turning on one another like in 2020? It takes everyone and we havenāt been unified in decades.
Vietnam was lost by congressmen not the men and women on the ground.
People are not built the same today. Society is set up different, itās not bad itās different. If you donāt study population shifts itās nearly impossible to notice some of the pressures that population shifts apply. One huge pressure on Russia that forced them to invade now (beyond Putinās legacy desires) - Too many people had left the country side and moved to the cities. How many kids do city people have? - usually 2 or less as children are a burden, you have to provide for them. Rural children (truly rural not small town folks) are an asset as they provide labor so those families have many kids (a dozen isnāt uncommon) and put them to work early - 7-8 years old you can do stuff. At 18 they are far differently equipped to face the world. With the bulk of the population shifting to urban settings there are just far less young men to go to war period. You have to strike while you still can. China is in a similar situation of population crash ahead - you need a birth rate of 2.1 people per couple to maintain population they limited to 1 from I believe the 80s until 2010s causing an aging population. They are allowing 2 now with still leads to population decline. If they want Taiwan back the clock is ticking, just as it was for Russia.
Populations have shifted. People are different in different settings. Urban environments create different opportunities. Both are necessary.
When I say I wonāt hire a city kid, itās not because theyāre bad people. Itās because they are ill equipped for this particular job due to a lack of exposure even if they have a college degree in the field. I want to put people in a position to succeed. Hiring the wrong person for the job is as much your failure as theirs.
@Kcmatt7 Cool but youāve also stated that loyalty and hard work leading to career advancement is a republican lie. š Perfect example! Thank you
That clip still cracks me up.

Billy Preston got buckets so easily. I wish his momma hadnāt screwed him and us over. He couldāve been a great college player and might have developed into a pro if given the opportunity.
@cragarhawk said in Welcome Nick Timberlake!:
@BShark I would argue that adults aren't 18 anymore. Which is absolutely a societal change. They are far too coddled to be adults at that age by-in-large these days. Everyone as parents including me is guilty of this. But let's not BS ourselves. My grandaddy volunteered to get on a plane and go fight japs in iwo jimo at 18. These kids are not adults until 23 plus imo. And. Honestly. Probably thru no fault of their own
We lose that war today.
City kids as a rule are very soft. Most country raised kids kick their asses when it comes to work ethic. Not a 100% rule, but holds true most of the time. If college kids apply for a job from the KC, Topeka areas I donāt hire them, they just quit when they realize the hours. Now the Missouri country girl that worked for me last year - sheās taking 18 hours of sr level classes, taking care of her 30 head of cows that are calving (need fed every day) a part time job, student senate, and is lobbying congress as State Farms student representative. For me she worked 13 hour days 5 days a week and had a smile on her face the entire time. The last city kid (KC area) I hired lied about his dad having a heart attack so he could quit in the middle of the day when work got too hard for him (first hot week). I have 22 years worth of similar examples 90% of city folks quit, 85% of country folks succeed. - Iāll hire young women and young men any color or creed, but children of the same age from the city can pound sand. Youāre correct it is the parents fault - they never thought they should prepare their little prince or princess for the working world - and Iām not going to do it for them either. At 14 I worked part time for 3 farmers, at the local drug store and mowed yards in my spare time. I am not unusual for rural areas. Itās just a different maturity arc in urban areas.
@DanR I also understand itās just the times. I donāt dislike any kid that wants to play for KU. I dislike the entire transfer/free agency/bidding wars for players concept.
@DanR I was thinking MJ and Cuffe as the most recent examples. Taking Cam is another. There have been other miscalculations. I really donāt care to defend this position either. Itās not a flattering conversation. Not gonna pump sunshine, but sure donāt want to be a Debbie downer either.
@jayballer67 Thatās awesome!!!
@BShark I donāt fault anyone for feeling as they do either. To each their own. Not trying to make converts. Just got boxed into a corner by @jethro and had to explain a position I donāt really care that passionately about.
Iām 100% for developing your own talent. I suppose recruiting fails and impatience will do this to a roster though.
Itās why I donāt get season tickets. I might go to a game or two, but semi-pro sports are yucky. Even if KU wins it all it just feels gross. - I am 100% behind Harris, kj Adams, Udeh, Zuby, and any incoming freshmen. oad transfers makes this feel like the Kentucky lite experience. More successful model, but hard to have school pride. It is what it is, Iāll either accept it or move on.
@BShark so adult not a child?
@jayballer67 Love me some Embiid. Only oad that captivated me. He would never have made it in the 90s nba though. Just too fragile. Heās playing in the correct era for his body. Think he will win mvp this year or did joker get it again?
All Iām saying is the bulk of the very successful folks I work for have 7-11 years of career experience by 25. Personally I took the long route and went to college so just 3 years in my current career. Yes a grown man masquerading as a child, a professional student. At some point itās just pathetic, wait is he going into medical school? If so I take it back.

The staff really likes Timberlake. Wonder what they see in him that you don't. What do you despise about Timberlake?
Unathletic. 25 year old. Kinda creepy having a grown ass man in the dorms. OAD that doesnāt move the needle. Most likely taking a roster spot and development away from a 3-4 year player that would end up doing more for KU in the long run.
Iām fine with adding transfers, just hoped for something more impactful than Timberlake is advertised as being. Given the cost of that roster spot.
