@wissox Whaaat?!? I thought the conference win streak was all that was dragging them down.
289# of dunking fat man is nothing Iād want to guard during the regular season either. Funny to see.
Gotta hit the road. Later, hawkers!
I wonder how the refs will call the second half
Dok is a man!

@BShark Good time of year to finally be healthy.
@jayballer73 Trying to have a friendly debate about Scott Drewās coaching/recruiting chops here. Letās not talk about each other. Please, donāt go after the poster itās more fun for everyone that way. @Crimsonorblue22 is a moderator for a reason and sheās calmly trying to tell you to be nice. Thatās all, sometimes we need a reminder of how we sound to others.
I posit Drew is maybe a good evaluator of talent, but not necessarily a good recruiter. Quincy Acy a guy we tend to gush over was the 149th rated power forward in his class, he scored a 62 rating from ESPN.
There was a good run around 2010 for Scott Drew recruiting wise he managed to snag 1-2 90+ rated guys per year for a few years. Basically 1-2 guys a year for a four year span that are guys Bill wouldāve recruited.
This is the only reason I think Scott Drew is an above average coach, we (KU fans) constantly overestimate the raw talent Baylor has. Glad heās in the Big12.
I donāt like early games. KU usually plays better later.
@nuleafjhawk said in More than we can BEARS...:
Is anyone willing to step out into the abyss and say he's a Great coach?
Hell no!
I think heās good, but far from great. Not someone Iād want at KU, but I think heās good for the conference. A decent human being and he currently has the #1 team that broke KUās win streak for longest in conference history. Iād say heās good - above average. Arguments could be made that Huggins is great and if so that makes 2 great coaches in the conference, 1 rising star in Beard (weāll see if that continues), 1 above average coach in Drew, 3 average coaches in Dixon, Kruger, and Weber, and a below par bunch at the other schools -Prohm, Shaka, Boyton.
I really donāt know who Iād like as Selfās replacement were he to retire unexpectedly from his post, but it isnāt someone from the Big12.
@Kcmatt7 ? Nothing nasty or personal here, just a difference of opinions. I think all is well...
@BeddieKU23 ...well from me...thatās by far the most nice things Iāve said about Drew.
Sorry @nuleafjhawk I didnāt mean to turn this into a Scott Drew lovefest. Lol I was just surprised at your position this season. Most years I wouldnāt argue with you one bit.
@nuleafjhawk No disrespect meant, yours is a common opinion and one you seem entrenched in. I just donāt know if itās 100% deserved. Any success at Baylor is harder to come by than at a blue blood. As far as Drew goes I donāt believe he has star potential Beard does. If Scott Drew can sustain his current level of success without a big drop off he may prove me wrong on that front.
@Kcmatt7 So youāre saying Self winning the Big12 after replacing all 5 starters twice is pretty freaking amazing?!?
@nuleafjhawk probably because you come out swinging every time his name is brought up. Comparing him to Weber is some vitriol. I havenāt historically thought much of the guy myself, but the last two years heās fielded good teams. Good teams built from nothing recruits that somehow KU fans end up drooling over at some point. Itās weird is all.
@nuleafjhawk No I donāt think Weber is great, but KU also fielded a team last year that nearly made me quit watching basketball with its apathetic play.
This year KU has a very good team and Baylor is giving them a run for their money. (Head to head win in Allen and they beat Nova while KU melted down in the final seconds and lost in a puddle of pee) I think KU wins Saturday and ultimately proves to be the better team, but Baylor is final four caliber. I donāt think Drew is on Selfās level, but why does the thought of him being decent offend you so? Itās great to get challenged from within the conference. Especially if itās top heavy - think of a normal ACC year.
The current Baylor roster has 2 guys ESPN rated as high as an 83 score. KU has 7 guys rated 83 or higher. The 83s are Enaruna and Lightfoot. Meaning those would be Baylorās best recruits. Wilson was an 85, better talent than any Baylor player. Most of those guys wouldnāt even see the floor for KU.
Please donāt make me defend Drewsh, but saying heās a bad coach given what heās doing this season isnāt a hill Iād die on.
@nuleafjhawk Does he really ever get as much talent in Waco as we sometimes think? I donāt remember any top 10 recruiting classes.
@BShark The odds will be much more accurate when the bracket is put together.
If Dok were a flawless pro prospect he wouldāve left after year 2 (age restriction or oad). I think heās the perfect college guy - four year player and improved every year. Unfortunately you donāt get 4 year guys that arenāt flawed or late bloomers anymore, but Dokās been a joy to watch grow. I have a hard time seeing him playing more than 10 minutes a game in the nba, but that doesnāt lessen my enjoyment of him in crimson and blue.
I donāt think anyone here is down on Dok, but I do hope we take the time to enjoy him before heās gone. Best damn senior weāve had since... Graham and before that Mason. What?!? Glorious seniors in the age of OADs!!! We are spoiled.
Silvio. Without him weād still start two bigs. Lol
Iām not sure why POY in a conference would matter in the grand scheme of things. It could be a consideration, but shouldnāt meet the total requirement. Itās just too small of a sample and allows for down years to produce such greats as Venson Hamilton and Tony Allen as poy. Neither was even close to 1st team AA. If youāre not one of the 5 best players in basketball youāre not one of the all time greats for KU (probably are at Nebraska though) unless you manage a top 10-15 (2nd 3rd team) finish multiple years. There are a ton of very good players at KU; I love them all, but not all are special enough for the rafters. Hopefully the standards go back up.
@Marco LaFrentz was a beast and gobbled up those awards.
I think he likes KU a little.
I donāt think projections should go into it. It should only be about body of work while at KU. IMHO
Iām not for considering post NCAA careers either i.e. Tebow should be retired at Florida, but he sucked in the nfl and Embiid should not be retired- everything heās accomplished has been in the nba.
Dusty chose a bad situation to be in. Either nobel or dumb depending on how he handles it.
Player driven scheme and players get no punishment = bad commish
Astros rocking Yu Darvish ruined his career = ? No punishment.
Altuve MVP? Or should Judge have that distinction?
Dodgers World Series champs or chumps?
Ehh feed the Astros to the wolves.
@Kcmatt7 Unanimous 1st team All-America does it for me, but I think it only takes 2nd team for Bill.
@chriz Heās directing traffic to one side of the court instead of allowing the offense to dictate direction. Self took this from Beard. Oh and having Dok and Garrett is the biggest reason.
@BShark Enaruna esq
@chriz I didnāt mind hand checking. I miss hardened players and brutal defense. Some of this freedom of movement stuff goes too far. But it is what it is and Bill has finally figured out how to coach defense for the first time since the rule change.

When will Manfried get canned so they can hire a commissioner with a backbone? The entire Astros roster should be permanently banned from baseball. Not happening, so Iām hoping for the over on the 89 beaned batters Vegas figures. Hell If I was managing against them Iād start a position player at pitcher and have him throw at batters until he gets tossed. They ruined careers, time to self police and return the favor. And hopefully then move on.
Drawing the Kings ire
@BeddieKU23 Just (scoffs) OSU has swept KU during Billās tenure if I remember correctly.
@Kcmatt7 Maybe run 5 seconds off on a defensive foul with under 2 minutes left. I hate how you play basketball for 38 minutes and then a free throw contest determines the game.
@chriz Week nine ratings - #3 KU, #6 BU, #16 WVU, #22 Tech
6ā3ā wingspan is pretty normal for a guy his height. It would be easier for him on defense if he was longer, but heās not a t-Rex like Svi.
Gotta be special and long to stick in the league with very few exceptions. Itās nearly impossible to overcome the length disadvantage.
@nuleafjhawk Astros inspired body buzzer/zappers!
Poor Silvio. One thing after another. We donāt even know how much the adidas deal is on him, but he bears the punishment and judgement. I hope he has a nice drama free year next season.
No 3 second calls theyāre too disruptive. Just electrify the paint after 3 seconds. That would be fun to watch.
@jayballer73 to be fair if Bill farted loudly in the Salty Iguanna itād make the evening news. Youāre right itās not fair, but I guess it comes with the spotlight.
@BShark If Dotson could pass better and shoot more consistently heād be nearly perfect after he grew 5ā. Heās gotten about all he can from college other than a degree. Wish he loved it in Lawrence enough to stay, but youāve got to get that nba money while itās there. Heck win it all and heāll be an all time great. Lose and he disappears in time. Funny how Fickle we fans are.
@BigBad You think we will ever see that 22 again?
@Kcmatt7 Yeah the thugs thing did him in. But who cares itās Cleveland they suck? Management must still think they have LeBron. š
RIP @jaybate-1-0 The early years were good
@BShark I hope he never forgets the nova meltdown. Motivation
Playing from behind didnāt help last year. Losing to Baylor at home like that was a wake up call, but I just think this is a good squad with a lot more heart, hustle, and drive.
@BeddieKU23 20 vs ISU and 27 vs KU on 8-20 shooting in a loss gets it done. Lol b12
