No doubt they are well rounded. But look at that Duke game. They had 18 ORs on the tallest team in the nation! And for the game they had 11 total rebs more than Duke.
I bet if they can create 18 ORs on Florida tonight they will take home the trophy!
Itâs as if rebounding is important. Wish someone wouldâve beat that into this last KU team!
KU was in the top 30 nationally in rebounds per game? Top 10 in defensive rebounding. Last year's team had a lot of issues but they did rebound. I think one of the biggest issues was the fact that they just did not get to the FT line. That screams a lack of athleticism to me. They also fouled a lot, which same deal.
KU was 67th is rebounding margin, more important than the gross number of rebounds is the positive net. Ku grabbed 38.5 rebounds to the opponents 34.7. KU was not a good rebounding team there just were a bunch of rebounds to be had (poor shooting? pace of play?). I contend if KJ could rebound, (5 per game Zeke had 4.8) KU wouldâve been a lot better.
I feel like rebounding is as good of a measure of effort/hustle as any advanced stat could be.

So who are the starters?
Peterson and Flory.
White?
And? The roster looks pretty incomplete at this point. Need another impactful player. Maybe that other transfer will be the 2?
@approxinfinity Iâm not really mad at Flory as much as Iâm infuriated with his handler.
@approxinfinity If the season started today I would buy tickets just to boo Flory! Heâs just an easy target. Much easier to be pretend mad at a dumbass kid making himself look like a jackass than to deal with real life emotions. Iâd rather be fake mad than sad all the timeâŚ
@approxinfinity Go to another company. I started my own. Whatâs the safety net of an employer feel like? Suffocation?
I donât hate that he got more money. I hate how he went about it. It he wanted to leave donât come back for money, thatâs dumb. KU wonât get the best version of him. Go away and flourish or fail.
I understand heâs your man crush, but he isnât loyal. I wonât go to an event heâs sponsoring, I wonât believe a speech he gives about how great KU is (Iâll just wonder how much they paid him to say that).
As of today there is not a player on the roster worth rooting for. Maybe one will emerge - Jamari perhaps will be a four year player. The rest are rentals, Flory equates to a high dollar hooker.
"I'm really excited to be back for another year to continue to grow and develop and bring a national championship to Kansas," Bidunga told ESPN with a wink and a bag of cash.
@BeddieKU23 Depends, how much crap, and when did he give it to you for KUs wretched season? Some people are just friends who root for the wrong team and have a common thing - both our teams lost in humiliating fashion. It can be friendly, but it doesnât have to be.
I prefer to kill the local KSU fans with kindness most of the year - it takes their legs out from under themâŚand then rip their shriveled black hearts out when it hurts most. When KU wins big Iâm obnoxiously happy and they feed into that with their misery. Rarely is there a need to cut them down, but on occasion itâs nice to remind them of how great their football team is and ask about the last NC game they played in or BCS/ny6 bowl game they won or playoff games theyâve madeâŚ
Have fun with your Duke friend. Choose violence if thatâs the most fun for ya.
@BeddieKU23 Money matters can be handled a hell of a lot better than this. There is no reason we should know he is in a contract dispute. And if you have one foot out the door the other better follow. Imperious child that can take his handler and find a new home as far as Iâm concerned. Bill is a pushover or in far worse recruiting position than we realize to bow down to such actions.
True Jayhawk - makes me want to get the Pom poms out and cheer him until he draws his last breath. Rail on Harris all you want he is a true Jayhawk thru and thru and I will support him in his future endeavors. Flory - meh heâs already dead to me.
Iâd like a player of Floryâs caliber, but one more loyal. Flory is a pos to me for pulling this stunt. Auburn can have his mercenary ass for all I care.
To rob from Willie Wonka - money is common, there is only one KU.
There are more players in the portal than starting positions in D1. The system is broken and there is no loyalty. (Also some benches must be more comfortable)

Might be wise to recruit more sophomores and juniors than true freshman until the portal calms down. Maybe. Dunno
Zuby bolted over competition for minutes. Flory bolted for money. I find one more troubling.
@rockchalkjayhawk soon come
@approxinfinity ehh still had a plodding Hunter. Dejuan isnât fast but it seems he went extra slow for Hunter. Dickinson had a huge influence in the roster construction and the pace of play. Next year will be different.

Heard Auburnâs number for Flory is around $3m
Need a salary cap. It would be more interesting to see how big schools budget their resources as opposed to just outspending everyone Yankees style. More interesting (at least for me- I like the numbers side too) as well as more competitive.
Isnât the revenue sharing more or less about to put a salary cap on things?
Maybe. Supposedly. Depends on outside revenue streams. Iâm not sure if NIL will 100% fall under that umbrella or if itâs just a second pot of gold for the players. 20.5 mil for all sports in total seems like less than is being spent currently.

@dylans I'll tell you why I don't like them making money. Because I'm old and old school. In my world, college kids get free room and board, free tuition and a free education. That's enough. It's more than enough. Believe what you want to but money will destroy college sports. I'll guarantee you that I'm not the only one who feels this way.
Oh I mostly fall into feeling that way too. Itâs just not an easily defensible position given introspection. Scholarshipâs for players only seems like enough because we had to pay our own way or earn it thru academics which isnât celebrated. If I did anything that drew 15,300 people and a tv crew to boot, Iâd want paid too! If you really want to get disgusted look up Internet personalities salaries. But I digress.
College basketball is ruined because the foundation was based upon indentured servants who have broken free. Now the structure is inadequate because the NCAA couldnât fathom paying for their labor and the ramifications of doing so. Poor leadership is a poor reason to not pay for their labor.
The portal plays into the madness. Free transfers with a bidding war for services and no salary cap. What could ever go wrong? I hate it, but it was inevitable.
@nuleafjhawk said in The portal.:
@dylans I watch the NFL also (mostly the Chiefs) and it doesn't bother me. Why? Because they mostly have gone to college, got a job and are getting paid because they were deemed worthy to play in the NFL. College is different (in my mind) - they haven't paid their dues. They're just money hungry little punks, most of whom will never set foot in a professional sports arena.
I wonder why someone else earning money bothers some? As you say, âmost will never be able to set foot in a professional sports arenaâ and get paid. Meanwhile the program is making millions off of their backs. I donât mind them maximizing what they get paid in what is a very short earning window in their life. I just would like some stability too. Both can be achieved with better structure.
Paying dues⌠I get the premise, but longer tenure doesnât mean better at your job. Sometimes quite the opposite. Most geniuses have made their impact by 27 - this is the same, but physical genius instead of intellectual.
Need contracts in the ncaa. Until then itâs just a yearly bidding war for each player that you lured in with money. Traditional recruiting has been corrupted.
Can you guess which two big 8 teams are on the list? Iâll give you the first one KU. lol
I watch the NFL and enjoy it. Their pay doesnât affect me in the least bit. Same goes for any hard working college kid that wants to get paid, they should be able to make a very good wage. Does an 18 year old out earning the average fan put them off?
The money isnât the issue, roster construction is. There needs to be some form of stability for this to work. Pros work under contract. Be it a one year contract or multiple years, you know what youâre getting. This allows the GM/coach to construct a roster with some form of future vision/growth in mind.
The current ncaa/calipari model isnât for coaches who develop players. Coaches like Self do better with continuity, unfortunately this last year the continuity was Hunter, Dejuan, and KJ - more glue guys than take charge leaders. And zero continuity for next season.
It will be interesting to see how it plays out. I donât have very high expectations currently, which is a different place to be in than the last couple decades.
Iâm ready for mock draft season to end and the real deal to go down! The player highlights are enjoyable during the draft.
I come here for KU basketball only. Careful @approxinfinity the âother stuffâ has driven off many of the old posters. I mostly use the block feature on people whom canât stick to KU basketball.
Passmore was a top 50 recruit? Never saw even a flash from him. Maybe the next stop he will live up to his HS ranking.
Anyone know where Pop Isaacs is headed? Probably Houston to torment KU further! lol. Heâs a nice player.
@wissox Iâm still mad at Purdue for 1994. lol. Nearly every season ending loss stings. This year not so much.
Plays thru contact. Nice!

Lots of movement in the Big 12 so far.
TCU- (Allette, Collins)
West Virginia (Powell, Tenner, Devries, Hansberry)
Baylor (Asemota, Love, Adegbola)
Iowa St (Jackson, Watson)
UCF (Sellers, Hendricks, Machowski, Williams)
Utah (Wahlin, Lovering, Little, Erickson)
Arizona St (Sanon)
Sanon to St Johnâs.
Back in the 90s there was a St Johnâs player on the cover of SI. The way his shirt was folded covered up the S. I wanted to know who played for Taco Johnâs?!?
Griffin seemed like he could be a KU guy. Never seemed confident or comfortable though. StorrâŚsmh
@nuleafjhawk the recruiting profile was different. The timeline much shorter. But the same amount of nattys.
Sheâs at UConn womenâs team. Itâs a good fit. They are doing quite well.
All I want are tall, long, athletic guys with a good shot, instinctively rebound, out hustle the opponent, and play lights out defense. I think itâs a reasonable expectation of Bill to fill the roster with this type of player. lol
Hudy used to put on too much bulk and players lost explosiveness. The new guy doesnât seem to put on enough for the rigors of the Big12. Maybe a new trainer is in line or maybe a different group of players will change our opinion.
Dejuan doesnât have an ounce of body fat on him, he could be limited by genetics. Hunter surely is as well. I have a 7ft friend that I grew up with - he ate and ate and lifted weights and was a bean pole until his 30s. The next guy over would look at weights and get swole. đ¤ˇââď¸
In their 40s is when theyâll gain weight. lol
@approxinfinity Bill is known for player development. If they didnât improve thatâs another indictment of the players. But in this case itâs likely more of a case of being the oldest team in the ncaa. All the talent is old or flory and flory did improve.
Been thinking about the portal. I wish the ncaa would grant a fifth year of eligibility to players that play all five for one university. A little reward for loyalty.
I would be fine if a mid major never wins another second round game in my life. I have never turned on the tv for George mason or bucknell. Iâm not even watching now so maybe my opinion doesnât count. I only care if KU is playing - definitely a (single) blue blood homer.

Nope. Only saw one Big12 game. It was a bit of a disappointment.
@BShark Noah Shelby should never play a meaningful minute for Kansas judging by his career so far. KU needs practices players too.
Iâm curious how the roster will be filled out. The starting 5 doesnât appear to be signed yet.
