Plus the murky scholarships Dotson (coming back), DeSousa (not looking good for a return).

Giants rookie shot in Topeka • Apr 30, 2019 01:28 AM

@jayballer73 The problem with Topeka is it’s small, but the little thugs wanna be tuff so they over compensate and shoot people over really dumb stuff. KC has rougher neighborhoods, but is bigger. Wichita is much rougher too. Nothing in Kansas compares to the junk in St Louis. I’m not saying it’s New Jersey.

My viewpoint is jaded my my liquor truck driving days in college. There were a handful of shops in KC that you had to guard the truck/booze/money. That was every store in our states capital. In Topeka you had to get cash from over half the liquor stores because they’d rob you too with a bad check too. I also got straight up help up in Topeka while making a delivery and on another occasions kids from Topeka robbed my car in Lawrence...so in my experience this is right on par for freakin’ Topeka and this year in sports.

I’m ready for some positive sports news out of Kansas/ KC area. Lawrence/KU- fbi bs. Topeka/Washburn - shooting. KC Chiefs - domestic violence galore. Manhattan/KSU - beastiality, Wichita/WSU coaches wife is embarrassing. No where looks great these days my friend.

How did the Chiefs do in the draft? • Apr 29, 2019 03:19 PM

@Kcmatt7 Veach is drafting with a very short term goal it would appear. I hope his gamble pays off, because the way the pats do it puts them in contention every year. Maybe Mahomes does that for KC, but he shouldn’t be taking Tom Brady money. And Tom’s cheap contract is part of the equation as well.

How did the Chiefs do in the draft? • Apr 29, 2019 02:17 PM

Saunders had a low 2nd high 3rd round grade on him. He may not have been available in the 4th. If he was taller he’d have gone before the Chiefs pick IMHO. I don’t know if he’s any good though, just the draft projections.

I’m 150+ pounds lighter than him and I sure as heck can’t do a backflip! Pretty athletic for a 320# dude! 6’ and can dunk. Hopefully he can play football.

Unfortunately you’re probably right on the Tucker front as well. He seems to like the south. Hard to pull a southerner that wants to be a southerner.

New 2019 Recruiting • Apr 29, 2019 02:08 PM

I wasn’t factoring in RJ. W/o RJ I see no reason KU couldn’t land Walker and Tucker. With RJ it could get crowded. Walker and Tucker compliment the pieces we have better though. RJ, Garrett, and Dok couldn’t play together - the lane would be choked shut!

@BShark I wonder why they liked him so much better than Parris Campbell? The prognosticators like Parris better, but Veach trades up to get his guy. Usually when he trades up it has ended up pretty good - Mahomes and Hunt come to mind.

He has unreal speed and they think they can turn him into a football player.

The one pick I absolutely love is Darwin Thompson. I get that RBs basically aren't valued at all now but this guy is going to contribute year one imo which is nuts for a 6th rounder.

Thornhill should start immediately, like that pick as well.

Thornhill excites me.

I know nothing of Thompson, but 7ypc is pretty salty.

New 2019 Recruiting • Apr 29, 2019 01:53 PM

@BShark I do too, but that’s only one starting guard with another 2-3 starting guard spots depending on team make up. Plenty of pt for more quality guards.

How did the Chiefs do in the draft? • Apr 29, 2019 01:51 PM

@BShark I keep reading that Mechole is a burner with a small catch radius. Parris ran the 40 in the exact same 4.33 time. Maybe he plays faster than his 40 time. I didn’t notice the cone drill time. That’s what killed DK Metcalf. Super stiff.

Why not both?

No room for two guys that are both immediate starter level.

The only KU level starter on the team right now is Dok. (Adbaji might be hurt or he may have been playing out of his head at first and came back to earth, Dotson may be gone, Garrett is a backup, McBride and Braun -not ready yet, McCormack is a year away) Plenty of room for 2 starter quality guards. And we both know if Cal or K wanted an extra body it wouldn’t be an issue. We’ve got to get back to the good old days of having high quality players like TRob waiting on the bench for their turn.

3rd rounder - rotational D line guy

Hard to complain.

@CoreyBill He’s not an Arizona fan, it’s all good. There is a politics section if you want to vent though. I choose to completely ignore that thread as politics and religion are great ways to lose friends.

Patience is a virtue Veach is definitely short on. As predicted a draft day trade. He’d be bad at poker.

@CoreyBill hearing the recording is even worse. There will be no justice. That kid is doomed. And Hill will play in the nfl for someone. Sad situation.

Hill under investigation • Apr 26, 2019 03:37 PM

I think the Chiefs should keep Hill under contract and not play him. Suspend him without pay for as long as the players union will allow. Let him rot on the bench when they have to take him back. No sense in having to play against him and OBJ...

Adrian Peterson beat his kid (less severe, but similar) and got very little in the way of punishment. As a matter of fact his ā€œcomebackā€ tour last year was lauded by many. I hope this isn’t the case here. I want to be able to root for the Chiefs.

2019 Transfer List • Apr 26, 2019 01:21 PM

@BShark First time I’ve seen his name mentioned. I figure he’s not a very likely option similar to most of the names brought up here. Gotta take recruiting news with a grain of salt!

@CoreyBill Where is the heck do you run into Arizona fans? I’ve never met a single one in KS, other than my grandparents, whom live in the Tucson area, I’ve never even seen anyone claim to be an Arizona fan. My grandparents pull for the Jayhawks too, but think Stumpy is clean as of last year...

Yikes

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Tyreek Hill is heard discussing striking his son on an audio recording of the Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver speaking with his fiancƩe, Kansas City television station KCTV reports.

Crystal Espinal, Hill's fiancƩe, is heard on the recording asking Hill, "Why did he say daddy did it? Why did he say daddy did it?''

Hill replies, "He says daddy does a lot of things.''

Espinal then says, "A 3-year-old is not going to lie about what happened to his arm.''

"Daddy did it," Espinal said, paraphrasing the boy. "He is terrified of you."

Hill responded, according to the recording: "You need to be terrified of me, too, b----."

Later in the recording, Espinal says, "He kept saying 'Daddy punches me,' which you do when he starts crying. What do you do? You make him open up his arms, and you punch him in the chest. Then if he gets in trouble, you get the belt out.''

The conversation was recorded as the couple walked through Dubai International Airport, according to KCTV. No date for the conversation was given.

KCTV's airing of part of the 11-minute audio file came a day after Johnson County District Attorney Steve Howe said charges would not be filed after police were called to Hill's home twice last month and investigators determined the 3-year-old child had been injured. Howe said that although he believes a crime occurred, the evidence in the case doesn't clearly establish who committed the crime.

The portion of the recording played on KCTV on Thursday starts with Espinal saying, "We were getting into it, and he said, 'Daddy, you're mean.' So we walked up the stairs. You said, 'Come back down here,' and he didn't want to go down there. But I was like, 'Go down there because it will end up worse for you.' So he walked down there and then you were getting on his [deleted] ... Then he started crying, and you were like, 'Shut up, shut up, stop crying. Shut up, shut up, stop crying.'"

Hill replies, "Right.''

Espinal continues: "Then he kept crying because he was scared. He was terrified, and you grabbed on to him or he fell, one of the two.''

Hill says, "I didn't do nothing. That's sad, bro. That's really sad.''

That's when Espinal asks Hill why their son said Hill did it.

At another point in the recording, Espinal brings up the investigations by the Overland Park, Kansas, police department and the Kansas Department for Children and Families.

"Now, somehow this investigation got brought back up, and you're about to lose your [deleted],'' she says.

"Now I really want you sit and think about it because I rode for you against that detective and the [DCF] people.''

Espinal then talks about what Hill does when their son starts crying.

Howe was given a copy of the tape and told KCTV that he is reviewing the audio.

Before the recording aired, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell told ESPN's Sam Ponder the league was still investigating.

"When you get the facts, then you make a decision about how it fits into our personal conduct policy," Goodell said. "You don't make a decision without having those facts."

The Chiefs said they had no comment at this time.

ESPN was unable to independently confirm Thursday it was Hill and Espinal on the recording.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.

That is a good point about merging into one. 247 and Scout did it recently but even that pool of fans was one-sided in size with the Phog having way more. I don't think many on here would stick around if this place one day merged with the Phog. Nightmare over there and takes away from some of the people that post on there that actually are good.

Basically 90% of this board would not last on the Phog. I agree.

Phog was around before this place. I chose here for a reason. Thanks @approxinfinity !

KU Seasonal Stats - The Bill Self Years • Apr 25, 2019 01:59 PM

@approxinfinity The ball movement in ā€˜08 was phenomenal. It was a combination of ball movement and lockdown D that we haven’t seen since. I’m not sure if any of the stats correlate to ball movement, but to me that was the biggest difference.

However, it’s been stated he’s out of Texas HS eligibility, so maybe he played a year elsewhere?

Light at the end of the tunnel.... • Apr 25, 2019 02:35 AM

@joeloveshawks I know little of basketball strategy, but advanced stats suggest Garrett was actually better than Grimes. Addition by subtraction possibly.

New 2019 Recruiting • Apr 25, 2019 01:22 AM

@Marco I could’ve taken 2 summer school classes (an English course and an elective) and graduated after my jr year. Instead I took mostly college level courses thru the local juco for dual Hs/college credit. I don’t think that’s too unusual.

@Woodrow yup. šŸ˜ž

Clark probably makes good football sense as long as the fans are ok with it. If the fans get sick of bad dudes they will stop signing them. And maybe he won’t cause any problems. I just think whoever hires/ drafts these guys of known questionable character ought to be held accountable for their actions.

@Crimsonorblue22 It’s more like a true false statement to me. One false thing makes the whole statement false. One woman beater, one child beater, one rapist, one killer - ruins the whole bunch. You can’t balance it out.

And here’s why I don’t believe in second chances for shitty people - gave one to my bros wife and she murdered him. Circumstances change, people don’t. Bad people in good places may not make bad decisions, but put back in a position to do so they almost always will. People are painfully predictable - they generally take the easy path with very few exceptions and most repeat the actions of their past.

So why bring a guy with a known woman beating past into your home town? It’s on Veach if he does something to someone’s daughter in K.C. You’d think the Hill drama would be aplenty. That’s another case of I hope he’s innocent, because if he’s not he deserves jail and I feel disgusted at myself for rooting for him.

I’d be a season ticket holder for KU basketball if I was closer. Pro sports - meh.

Please, don’t ruin sports for me feds/NCAA!
