@Kcmatt7 I’m becoming less than enthused at the character of ā€œmyā€ Chiefs team. I’m having a hard time getting behind this move regardless of his football dominance. Like KU basketball I only watch the Chiefs and possibly the championship game, if it weren’t for Mahomes I wouldn’t watch a single NFL game given the Hill, Clark, Hunt, Belcher, etc. junk.

Domestic violence and the FBI have all but ruined sports for me.

I forgot about rolling the Berry dead money into 2 years instead of taking the hit this year.

@Crimsonorblue22 Yes. It used to work. Now it just turns the screen gray and stalls out until I hit refresh.

@approxinfinity That’s how my profile pic went away. I messed with it a few times and said f it. Not worth the aggravation. I also cannot delete posts any more, also a bit aggravating when I double/triple post stuff.

Why’d they get rid of Hunt and pay this dude $105 million? This is worse. I believe it’s deemed ok simply because there is no video.

The numbers I’m looking at must be wrong then. I see 22 million in cap space less 4.5 million in future commitments to drafted players. Before the Clark deal.

Crazy money considering the Chiefs weren’t willing to pay a qb over 20 million a couple years ago. Now they locked in a DE for 20 mil a year for 5 years. 63 million guaranteed likely spread out over 3 years if not the life of the contract in the form of a signing bonus.

He had better be an amazing football player; he’s proven to be of poor character.

@Kcmatt7 I think there is over 60 million guaranteed. It’s a hefty commitment.

Dee Ford had an outlier year. Glad the Chiefs got something for him, but it seems they may have overpaid for potential pr problems.

@nuleafjhawk #1 rated transfer of the 800+. I want him too. Guess who’s ranked #2....Tucker.

Convert all 8 blown saves at one point and they are 15-7. Maybe more by now I haven’t paid attention this weekend.

New 2019 Recruiting • Apr 22, 2019 02:31 PM

So is Markese Jacobs a guy we still don’t want or is that a whiff now? Did he stall out in his development?

Edit- I think I can answer my own question. Dude stalled out. He was ranked as high as 49, but currently sits in the 140s on the composite. Ouch.

My beloved Yankees/ Your most hated Yankees • Apr 22, 2019 02:14 PM

Sorry Jerry, the Yankees as currently constructed aren’t very hatable. Maybe an underachieving team, but injuries make that hard to tell. I was hoping that Judge would shake his injury proneness and round out his game this year. He’s fun to watch hit homers, but needs to raise his obp.

Opening day • Apr 18, 2019 01:27 PM

Did he charge the mound? Only way I know to stop that is to beat the pitchers butt. But ask good old chisox Robin Ventura about charging Nolan Ryan. You’ll get your keister handed to you.

I don’t mind some masculine preening. I despise the neutering of America.

How Bennett > Self • Apr 16, 2019 04:33 PM

Bill loves having two ball handlers on the floor. Grimes should’ve had plenty of opportunity. Instead he stood in the corner by his defender most games. Grimes never displayed his handle. His drives were usually charges. He’s not ready to be an elite point guard in college let alone the nba with his slow reaction time and lack of quickness in general.

Seems like a decent kid, but he’s misguided in thinking he’s nba ready unless he knows he will never be nba quality and needs to be drafted on HS potential before he’s full exposed.

Wake-Up Call • Apr 15, 2019 02:49 PM

@kjayhawks the tickets don’t bring that much. The high prices you are quoting are for good seats on the aftermarket. I didn’t want to drive to San Antonio or I could’ve watched the Jayhawks for $60 in 2008. The ncaa doesn’t see any of that money. They make their bank on the tv contract. I think they could make just as compelling tv by getting the best teams in the final four games and crowning a top 4 team as champ. Currently they bank on Cinderella’s, but the glass slipper causes stinky feet after a couple rounds of dancing.

Wake-Up Call • Apr 15, 2019 01:28 PM

@Fightsongwriter It would be easier to fix the Packers. Their GMs and very average coach have squandered most of Rogers career. At least in the NFL the teams in the playoffs have earned it. Making the NCAA tournament is easy, winning it even with the best team is partially random. 6 single elimination games isn’t the best way to determine a true champion. The whole thing is rigged judging by Virginia’s win anyway.

@nuleafjhawk Roy was always approachable and friendly when you’d see him out and about. Sometimes he’d even start the conversation. Seemed genuine. I’m sure leaving Lawrence wasn’t easy on him either. Years and national championships help heal the exit wounds.

Remember folks Dook and Coach K have had the best recruiting class for 3 years running. Zion, Barrett and guys are winning all sorts of awards now that the season is over. But they only have a ACC regular season and tournament title to show with zero FFs. That alone makes me surprised that Coach K has came out in support of the OAD rule. At this point could because of NIKE's checkbook. Self's best teams have had 1 or zero OADs or transfers on them. Auburn and Virginia had several guy rated in the 70s or higher. We just need to get the right guys, I think this is a lesson that Self and co are learning right now.

I think the lesson is the kids/society is all about instant gratification and many high talent prospects are unwilling to put in the work.

Hiring/recruiting in general is tough. You have willing and unable, or able and unwilling. When you get both it’s like finding a freaking unicorn, but they bolt as soon as they can because they’re ready to take the next step.

I guess it’s a niche for someone to fill.

New 2019 Recruiting • Apr 13, 2019 01:29 AM

@nuleafjhawk I think great players are great for basketball. I think OAD factories are bad for a program. And I think the OAD rule by the NBA needs done away. Kids that show out could still go pro after a year and it would save us from a bunch of Grimes’ that were pre-determined to go even after a lackluster season.

Coaches are always going to go after the top talent. Talented rosters can win games even with coaching mistakes. (i.e.Scott Drew or Cunzo w/ Porter)

@dylans Super high ranked guys don't guarantee immediate success either.

Zion

IDK when he played they rarely lost and it wasn’t Zion’s fault. I would have gone with a different example like Grimes.

I don’t like OADs, but I think you sure as heck take the right one.

Josh

Anthony Davis, Josh Jackson, Zion Williamson all nice players that just needed surrounded by a few upper class men to succeed.

We all may have a different opinion if Embiid had stayed healthy.

Wake-Up Call • Apr 12, 2019 06:47 PM

@FarmerJayhawk Funny loop-hole if you declare a third time and pull out you can still get drafted and lose your NCAA eligibility.

Wake-Up Call • Apr 12, 2019 06:41 PM

No super high ranked guys means no quick fix means a possible long term solution is on the horizon. It also may make for another year (or two) of below Kansasā€˜ usual standard under Self.

Who in the world do we have for next year? • Apr 12, 2019 06:37 PM

@Crimsonorblue22 I have no doubt he cares deeply about the team he’s playing on. I just don’t think it would’ve mattered if it was KU or UK. There just aren’t too many Lightfoot’s out there. Most become fans over the years like Graham. I don’t think it’s necessarily a bad thing as long as the kid buys in. I just had envisioned Dotson being here long enough to leave a legacy.

Who in the world do we have for next year? • Apr 12, 2019 06:11 PM

Kinda supports my theory that Dotson wasn’t a huge KU fan coming into Larryville. This year was rough enough I had hoped it would galvanize the remaining guys into an unflappable core. šŸ˜”

Who in the world do we have for next year? • Apr 12, 2019 06:08 PM

@FarmerJayhawk Is the last paragraph how other institutions get out of having in-eligible players? Just play them and make the NCAA come at them (i.e. Zion)???

When a school discovers an NCAA rules violation has occurred, it must declare the student-athlete ineligible and may request the student-athlete’s eligibility be reinstated. The NCAA staff reviews each student-athlete reinstatement request individually based on its own specific facts. This decision may be appealed to the Division I Student-Athlete Reinstatement Committee, which is comprised of representatives from NCAA schools.

@FarmerJayhawk Can you just come back once? Or can you ā€œtest the watersā€ as many times as you’d like now?

Post season ban coming???

New 2019 Recruiting • Apr 12, 2019 04:55 PM

@nuleafjhawk Yeah, it’s how you win a championship. You have a core of talented ā€œprogramā€ guys (3-4 year players). Then you sprinkle in 1 and 2 year talent at a couple of positions. That’s how KU won in ā€˜08, that’s how ā€˜Nova won both of their championships, it’s how UK won their one championship under Cal (that and Anthony freakin’ Davis was the one year player they sprinkled in). Poor timing too, KU got hot in the tournament and would’ve picked up a title in another year.

2019 Transfer List • Apr 12, 2019 03:54 PM

Lots of minutes for a 2 and a 4. It may be hard to recruit the 4/5 spot with McCormack starting late and Dok/SDS still on the roster. If Dok comes back šŸ¤ž that’ll nail down the 5 spot though.

SIlvio’s plight is more interesting though. He is athletic and gaining experience in the system. I’m hopeful, though doubtful he gets some eligibility back for the second half of next season. If he’s on the roster he will drive away recruits, so there is major risk associated with Silvio as well.
