Somewhere in the middle of why KU recruited a JUCO (out of desperation, necessity) whatever terminology we want to use, there must be something the staff likes right? This is the staff that found Frank Mason & Agbaji. Both players likely were identified as being on the upward trajectory in their development. It seems like Grant-Foster could be one of those that might have something to give at the next level if we trust the staff knows what it's doing here. I honestly don't know but I think its best to stay a bit neutral until we see how his last year at Indian Hills goes. Might be a good topic to backtrack on in the future

Well - - - last night was just another example of how poorly this year in the NFL is being officiated.

You guys remember how I posted awhile back how my Packers were the least impressive 3-0 team in the league at that point ?

Don't get me wrong - -I love Green Bay BUT Detroit just got absolutely screwed last's nights game. - - Flowers had 2 hands to the face called on him late in the game - and there was no way on either one - -sure he was high BUT not in the face.

Don't get me wrong Detroit had plenty opportunity to put the game out of reach - -have it under control - BUT just wet all over themselves -- Green Bays defense stiffened quite well after the 1st quarter - -so happy with the addition of the Smiths - -great pass rushers. - -Detroit having to settle for field goals. - -Like the Announcer said - -your not beating Aaron with field goals.

This past weekends officials just showed how poorly they are doing this year - - I would be mad as Hell if I were Detroit. - -BUT - - - GO PACK.

Sure the reasons we get a juco kid this year are well known. He could be one of those late blooming kids that has a chance to prove the stigma wrong. We will have to wait and see. Some good things to like with his tape and hopefully he has a big year in Juco as he is being hyped to have.

Where would they go? SEC? I just don't see it. I do a lot of work with UT and there are cultural differences between UT and the SEC.

Just watch this play out. Self is now on record for supporting the Cal law. Coaches have to recruit. Do you think many of them want to go against paying players?

The writing is on the wall, and the NCAA is going to cave. The real question is "how much?" How much will they cave? Regs will have to be in place. Lines will have to be drawn. I bet they are busy now trying to calculate lines and what they think they can govern and enforce.

I foresee much of this ending up in court. Not so much on the overall concept of the new Cal law. That is quickly catching fire like a prairie blaze. It's all about the details and such a broad concept will have to be refined with regs. I can see half a dozen major areas of interest and there will be huge money in those interests. Now you are talking about corporate attorneys taking on the NCAA.

As much as we all want to BBQ the NCAA and call them out as being dictators... imagine the size and scope of what is about to happen.

Still not going to matter , there has been talk about this Conference being toast for years - it's just not going to survive come contract time.

No I haven't forgot - -I think they will slide into the Sec just fine - -actually I could care less about UT - - -but even without anything concerning Texas - -this is a Conference that just isn't going to hold together - - as I'm sure you have heard/talked/read about - when it's all said and done your going to see 4-5 MEGA SUPER Conferences and others will be in Scramble mode - -still fully believe when this come to light KU will end up in the Big 10. - -Bottom line is If I were a betting man I'd bet % somewhere around 80% that the Big 12 will be history

Cold be Coach Self endorsing this Bill saying he would be in support of it - so he can land in another Conference where this comes into play be able to maintain recruiting with other Big Boys - -as you know or should the top recruits are going to be swayed to go to a School where they can get some kind of money to play - -right now the West coast Schools are going to have a huge advantage - -Bill wants to keep the table/playing field level for KU.

We Better hope that the State of Kansas adopts the same law that was passed, on the other hand I just think with this law being passed just enhances the chance of the Big 12 being broken even more on top of the new Contract coming up

You'll never have to worry about KU starting from Scratch in Basketball - - as you say we ARE a prominent very prominent School in Basketball -- and always will be , whether it's here in the Big 12 or any other Conference - -we will always be a blue blood School - not worried about that at all. -- Not worried about finding a Conference that will take us because of exactly that.

Some things Kendall Brown had to say after his un-official visit at late night:

Brown said his visit was just crazy , Never seen anything like it before. He got there Friday had a chance to tour around a bit before late night - -Said Coach's told him what he needed to work on , stating he was a big guard playing on the wing 6'7 - -saying KU wanting him to be able to get out and run.

Taking his 1st official visit to Marquette on the weekend of ( 10-25 ) -Marquette really been recruiting him hard - - -he says he really likes Marquette a lot - - also wants to visit Maryland.

Other Schools that he is hearing from : Nebraska - - Arkansas - - -Gonzaga - - Baylor and others , looking to commit next year before School starts - -probably cut the list before beginning AAU.

As far as what he is looking for from his visits from a School: Relationships & where he will fit in the best - - Which School gives him the best opportunity to put him in the league - -& then looking for Coaching Relationship - - -Team Relationship and if the team feels at home for him. -- ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

Ok, so here is the thing. Been reading from some , no a lot but some how they were disgusted by the performance at late night. Then we got Self an our AD apologizing about it , kind of made me wonder Made me think - - - well maybe I'm all wrong with my thought , my train of thought - -thinking dam what's the deal. - - THEN since I've seen ALOT more from people thinking the same train of thought I had - gonna list some posts from people here that I've read not only from the Phog but seen post from other sites pretty much the same:

As far as the cursing/vulgarness - -that's Snoop - -it's a typical Snoop performance, the guy is an Icon - - made millions for preforming , everything I've heard the recruits love it - -being able to see him KK Robinson stated as much for one - -others said as much also. - - KU always uses late night as a big recruiting tool , brings in people to enhance recruits visits - - is that's what it's about? - -to make sure the recruit has a really good experience ? -That's why we bring in rappers and such right to help with that? -As far as other one's that was there watching is - -- if you were there and you were offended - - then just answer me this one question - - was anyone forcing you to stay? - - did someone have a gun to your head ?- -a knife to your throat ? - - were you tied down? - -you disgusted by Snoop - - then get up - - stand on your feet and LEAVE simple enough - -if you don't like what's taking place - - then get out. - - just think this is way over blown - It's SNOOP DOGG like said before and they knew and Snoop said himself - -you paid for Snoop Dogg you going to get Snoop Dogg - that's just who he is - -plain and simple. - KU apologizing looks worse then not, just makes them look more like kissing ass/sucking up to the NCAA

Give me some examples of JUCO guys that make solid contributions for blue blood programs or typical top 10 teams ... I just don't see it. You don't have to. I get your point that casting all JUCO guys as low tier isn't reality.

However, I'm just bitter right now with where we are at. As @BeddieKU23 said, we needing to fill roster spots.

We've struggled recruiting anyway. We've continued to play second fiddle for a number of seasons -- supposedly when we, er, Adidas, was paying guys.

I'm not sharp enough to remember Juco Names from times past - - yet I do know that there have been some pretty solid players from Juco - -could be wrong but wasn't Larry Johnson a juco that played for UNLV ? - - seems to me he was a pretty dam solid Juco - -doesn't have to just be Blue Bloods.

Do I prefer Juco ? - -hell no I don't, - I agree with you to a point that I do am umm disappointed with where were at - - wouldn't say bitter - -pretty much just saying seeing as where were at - -were at then myself if there is a Juco that can help the program and I fully believe the ones being discussed here CAN help the program - -then I'm not going to turn my back just because they are Juco. - -As a Coach I'm going to take the talent that I have available that can help in our current situation.

Couple of recruit follow ups and what they have been saying:

Javonte Brown Ferguson on his visit to KU : --- The KU visit went great , They ( KU ) want me . - -They need two big's - - - They said IF Gethro Muscadin & Isaiah Todd sign then it wouldn't be the best thing for me to come. -- 70/30 % chance he will be re-classifying and make his Decision after the New Year.

KK Robinson was asked about his visit : - - -Said he loved it. -- -The Atmosphere in Allen Fieldhouse was crazy. - - Being able to see Snoop Dogg also was a great experience. - - They ( KU ) said that they weren't recruiting me to sit the Bench. They are recruiting me to make plays and to be one of the go to guys down the line - - - - Of Course I have to earn it - - - Nothing is given. ( - -Love that reasoning from him ) - - Then he says " I Think I'll fit great in their system - - sounds encouraging -- Coach Self has always done great with little Guards - - -I like our chances with him I believe - - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

With respect to the pickers, I don’t trust their opinions much. I think a lot of guys won’t even put them in as long as overseas looks like the eventual landing spot.

Understandable bud , even if we were to get him for a year - would be a sweet addition for us, me myself, I just don't feel very confident about him landing here - -over sea's or not
