@jayballer54 they had 2 solid years in 15 and 16 with 9 wins a piece but 15 is the lone + .500 conference season to with a 14-24 SEC record.
Kansas's chancellor Douglass Girod has spoke up in support of the AD and coach Beaty. A move that I believe had to be done if no plans of firing him this season existed and no surprising that he wouldn't want to hire a new AD this soon in his tenure. It's important for the few recruits that we currently have. With just 6 seniors on the roster this year next year shapes up to be the most experienced team we have had since 08 or 09 and if you were going to replace Beaty in the next few years you'd do it now with that high amount of guys slated to return. Beaty likely is given 2 more years because the next class to graduate has over 20 players in it and no one would want to set up the next coach to fail. The question now becomes does Beaty continue to recruit high school kids or will he cave and take the Weis approach and load up on the JC guys in hopes to have a few good years to keep his job longer. I personally think he is fired after the first 4 games in 2019 with a record of 5-47 and goes down as maybe the worst coach in major college history. To put that in perspective MM had 48 loses in 8 years. Here's a link to Girods comments: http://www2.kusports.com/news/2017/nov/13/ku-chancellor-states-confidence-ad-zenger-football/ ↗
@jayballer54 I vote negative on Jones he has one winning conference season at Tennessee, if you can't win with the SEC and Tennessee brand with those resources how could you win at Kansas? It would be Weis all over again IMO.
Embiid is a character, he needs his own tv show lol
@bskeet what a load of crap... AFH is the loudest, it's been measured. East bias bulls***
Anything can happen, I've come to the realization with the way the parity is in the sport now days that anyone can be anyone on a given night. We are Kansas we expect to win every night.
The next head coach at the university of Kansas should be.......drum roll Brian Ward current defensive coordinator for Syracuse. Mark my words he will be a head coach with in the next five years and a successful one. I was lucky enough to see him turn around a complete doormat in McPherson College in just 3 years (Ik it's NAIA but it's more head coaching experience than Beaty had). He has recruiting ties all across the the state of Kansas, Oklahoma and Texas. Brian has been a little bit of every where including the NDSU sideline in their upset of KU. He let up some serious points last week but also drew up the game plan that beat Clemson. One of my best friends played QB for him and he's a hard nose guy that instills toughness. I remember my buddy up at 4 am late in the season practicing in 10 degree weather because they were gonna be the toughest team on the field with no excuses, reminded me of Mangino practicing out in the snow before the orange bowl tho the game was to be played in sunny Florida. It's not a big name hire but I'd start there and then pay what ever takes to get back strength and conditioning coach Chris Dawson from KSU, our guys don't look any bigger or faster from year 2 to 3 and that is unacceptable.
"I want a guy that can make the shot but also a guy that can handle missing" -Phil Jackson after Steve Kerrs game winner in the finals.
On a side note if anyone wants to get a scout on this years UK club they play today on ESPN at 2:30 against Vermont.
I'm excited to see Billy play against some athletic bigs and how amped up he is not playing Friday. I feel like tho we are short on depth, we actually have low post scoring for the first time since Embiid was here between Doke and Billy. I will always have high regards for LL but averaging 25 minutes and 8 points let's the defense sleep on you a little too often. At this point I think I'd take Billy over Bragg and Alexander. Our guards have been among the best in the college game the last two years and I think this group can continue that trend this year. I know everyone says it he guards are what wins the NCAA tournament games and that maybe true but most recent NC teams have had at least one if not two good bigs.
I always feel better after a cats loss lol. I used to kinda not mind them til we got better than them in football for a few years, then there fans got butt hurt because they didn't have us in anything. Now there fans are so arrogant I hope they lose, I don't watch like there fans do us in BB (which I laugh at and it must be exhausting with Selfs 83% win). But I have several family members who are big State fans that gave me jazz about KUs loss in the Elite 8 but here they are a preseason top 20 team struggling to get a bowl birth.
@Texas-Hawk-10 Thank you for going, I know it's hard to attend KU football games. I'm proud of how hard the boys played. Stanley has some really head scratching throws but I love how he stood in there and took some hits. I honestly wonder if we wouldn't have stolen another game had be been heathy against the likes of CMU and Ohio. One the other hand I'm kinda ticked that we didn't play harder against Baylor. That has to be the constant with this team going forward. Beaty has to get these guys to play hard with every snap then maybe we can win more than 3 games since MM was here.
Man if we just had a B12 caliber QB and O line.
Haven't been doing any predictions or scouts recently, been too busy and to be quite honest what the hell is the point? Beaty will be back next year to win his one or two games and be dismissed. This afternoon we play a Texas squad that has had to deal with crap from A&M fans for a year about getting beat by us. I honestly think this could be the worst loss of the season Texas by 45. Beaty continues to yap about it being a marathon in post game, 2 more recruits back out of their commitment and open try outs will be held this spring.
We all know Travis Ford was a snake and probably paid for Smart, Nash and several others maybe Carrol.
@jayballer54 @Crimsonorblue22 If I didn't know better I'd say Ray has lost this team. They have looked like they have had better things to do the last hand full of games and showed no energy whatsoever. It looks like Selfs 2005 team, no heart, no hustle and a first round NCAA exit.
I wonder how many of our opponents were kind enough to donate lol. It will be interesting to see who starts from here on out. Does Self continue to play small ball? Or does Preston get a good deal of starts? With the way Garrett is playing Sam may not see the floor a whole lot, we know Self loves his 8 man rotation.
Kansas was just swept at home by #23 Baylor and drops to third place in the B12. They were never really in it besides the second set where they blew a 15-8 lead. Rigdon is still out with an injury so I figured this would be a tough one, just didn't expect to get spanked on our own floor. Kansas has finished in the top 2 of the big 12 for 4 straight years, that probably just ended today.
@BShark sorry to hear, prayers to you and your family. Hopefully the hawks can spank yet another group of tigers tonight to help you feel better.
We all know guys get paid, as long as corporate America stays outta it the FBI don't care and the NCAA seems to only care if its obvious. I just get tired of the inconsistency of the penalties, Selby supposedly had a few thousand given to him for a limo, hotel room and tux for prom. He had to sit the first 9 games I believe in the first semester while this kid gets basically nothing.
I would be shocked if we lost more than 5 games with our SOS not being as tough but one game at a time and Tennessee State is first in line.
Ive been extremely busy the past several days working on installing new floor in my house and going to a funeral. I listened to game while working yesterday, and Beaty has to go. Beaty is a fraud, the slicked back haired car salesman that sales the hard working family a junk car with no remorse. Look at all these Texas recruits we got signed!!! (0) Beaty played the system, got rich in doing so, now he'll get a buyout and go be a WR coach somewhere.
@jaybate-1-0 @BShark ill have to see if I can find an article I read a few months back about a brain surgeon that lets his son play football and how he thinks the CTE is in high number of people who didn't play football.
Kansas football makes considerablely more money than basketball, 34 million dollars just in TV revenue. Plus Beaty gets paid a third of what Self does, KU actually averages just over 30,000 in attendance for the year with the KSU game being the biggest crowd in 2 years with just over 36,000.
@dylans @wissox I love the idea of of a double elimination tournament, I tell people all the time that the best team seldom wins the NC in college basketball because of the crap shoot it is. Imagine how we couldve done several years, I'd bet we'd have a few more titles. In regards to CFP I think it's stupid to not have a regular playoff with a minimum of 8 teams. It has worked well for FCS and just about every other sport known to man. On the original question I vote no in this day and age because of the injury risk, lack of will in today's kids. Now when I was in HS we played in 2, we won one my senior year in our annual tournament. We really wanted to win because we hadn't won our own tournament in 25 years but lost in double OT so we played for 3rd and creamed the team we played because we was so pissed.
I definitely think this team can be special for sure. I think losing JJ and Mason hurt, but to be honest losing Lucas with a healthy set of bigs won't seem as costly once Doke and Billy get a few things down (mainly getting in the right position before the shot on defense and early post ups). The main thing that could hurt us is a guy like Frank or JJ to drive late in the shot clock and games to get that big bucket. Newman, Vick or DTG could become that but not sure they will. I do feel better about rebounding and a balanced scoring attack. We needed Frank to put up 25 or 30 a few more times than I'd like a year ago. But we had very very little scoring down low after Doke was hurt, that should improve vastly.
@nuleafjhawk Free cotton candy!!!!
Hey it got Cam Newton a NC, but Cliff wasn't allowed to play SMH still pissed about that. NCAA has to write a discipline guide or something.
@stoptheflop They should all be fired with a loss Saturday no question. I'm still pissed they blew last week with poor coaching for the special teams for the 3rd week in a row. Although my sources close to the program are telling Beaty will be around til his contract expires. I'm not sure how a 3rd coach could lose at home to teams 3-12 combined record and stay. Beaty himself said they expected to go to a bowl this year. I predicted 4 wins and a slight chance to go bowling. I honestly can hardly talk about it, it's me makes so mad the lack of knowledge our coaches have.
@RockChalkinTexas don't stay up too late young lady.
Sounds like Newman is having a solid night.
I haven't joined yet, I can't watch the darn thing anyway.
@jaybate-1.0 those time capsules seal pretty good.
@jayballer54 I don't have a vendetta against anyone besides Joe Deforest currently. I said in my KSU preview I'd start Stanley because can avoid pressure, I'm not sure ether QB is great or anything. Stanley had a gods plenty of under and over throw balls Saturday and a less 50% completion and he had two turnovers himself, the fumble giving KSU the ball inside our 15 was a huge factor in why we lost.
@Fightsongwriter No way with a healthy group Coleby ever would have played more than 10 minutes a game. @jaybate-1-0 I believe he wanted to play more, don't think Self ran him off whatsoever. Sadly if one of the trio of Whitman, Coleby and Bragg we would be in better shape but I honestly think Lightfoot improving caused 2 of these guys to leave.
I've seen a few tweets and post about Stanley being the savior for the KU offense. First off I agree with Stanley starting as long our line is below average. Bender was averaging over 300 yards a game and the offense was averaging 30 points per game for the first time since 2009 before ISU and TCU . With that being said having our starting center made a huge difference but let's not act like KSU is a great team. People also forget Stanley couldn't throw the first 4 weeks of the season due to an injury so it would've been tough for him to play before West Virginia, a game that we win if the defense shows up with Bender in. After watching Saturday I highly doubt KSU goes to a bowl. Comparing their defense to TCU is ludicrous. People forget that Bender had 3 straight 300 plus yard games for the first time since Ressing to start the year. Not mention fans hated the revolving door at QB a year ago. Bender got as much of a chance as you could ask for and did decent to be honest and wouldve won more games had the defense played as well early in the year as it is now. I honestly don't think the game goes much different if he started rather than Stanley. Stanley under threw a good chunk of passes and was bailed out bye good catches several times. Also had a back breaking fumble to start the second half that was as costly as any play.
There is nothing to gain from a recruiting stand point because we already get most of the good enough players to be D1 in the state. The trouble is that it's a no win for KU, you give WSU more exposure than they would normally get and if you win, you beat a team you should beat but if you lose you lose to a mid major (idk that I'd consider a AAC mid major maybe). Self won't risk losing to them in a game that gains nothing and honestly they play way harder than we do. That's why they won in 2015, we were flat out lazy and they hustled.
@elpoyo the KU football losing streak is at 7 games, lol no ones talking about it. Maybe you guys in Mizzou land.
Love the effort today, hopefully it carries to next week. Still hard to take knowing how we really dominated 2 of the 3 phases of the game. Joe Deforrest has to go. 3 weeks in as row special teams have let up a TD and you knew thge guy was dangerous. So we kick short to the 45 after than? News flash a kick outta bounds goes to the 35 you fool.
We gave it away
Special Teams coach Joe Deforest should be fired right now. Walk his ass out immediately
How bout that you give Sims a shot to redeem himself and he does.
@BShark idk but that's game, we've had our chances. No one to blame but ourselves
Sims had that ball in his chest with both hands on it gotta catch it.
Personal foul blocking outta bounds? Have never heard that call in my life, do they realize that a player can come back in and make the tackle right?
Dineen has to make that tackle vs freshman QB
Need 6 here and stop to stay alive. Darn it's so frustrating because we should up in this game but everyone thought it was gonna be a beat down
KU has more yards and first downs than KSU just can't finish drives, 5 times we've had the ball in KSU territory with 6 points.
