Welcome Elmarko Jackson! β€’ Mar 28, 2023 11:00 PM

If I can interject, it should be remembered that a lot of us were scarred by our interactions with the Voldemart of this site in the years prior to when he left around the time of the 2020 world debacle. Let's not get overly sensitive and so reactive whenever we run into criticisms or comments that may seem vaguely similar or in the same vein.

2023 Coaching Changes β€’ Mar 27, 2023 08:43 PM

@Texas-Hawk-10 Dickie V has been rabidly calling for him to get it. Called the UT AD "classless" if they didn't hire him.

Of course, he says everything pretty rabidly, so....

Selby was my guy came out hot then lost his spot to Brady and tyrel not sure why or how.

I think he had a foot problem that he tried to play through but couldn't jump off it, and couldn't defend IIRC. Starting late because of the (9 game?) NCAA sanction for impermissible benefits hurt him, too. Should have not gone pro, but his family was deeply impoverished, I think.

As always my memory may be affected by many drowned brain cells....

The Athletic has an absolutely brilliant article about Dan Hurley. Makes me cheer for him even if I still don't like UConn because I got so sick of Jim "sour face" Calhoun.

Funny how our grudges stick around, ain't it?

@kjayhawks We won it in 2018. But the format is different now, with only 4 teams going to NY this year. They are considered reg season games, and we already do the Champions thing. Baylor is supposed to be in it this November, I think. Called the Tip Off Classic or something.

This is a comment on The Athletic after KState's choke job last night:

"I'm a K-State fan from way back and it sucks to miss the final four this way. However, calls or no calls, the best team today won, without any doubt, and they deserve their due. Unlike the hoards of punks known as KU fans, K-State fans are gracious in victory or defeat and today we were, without any doubt whatsoever, defeated. Congratulations to FAU, and congratulations to our guys for making it this far. A group picked to finish last in the Big 12, who had never played together, had an outstanding year and should hold their head high."

Assistant Coach Roberts was... "soft" β€’ Mar 21, 2023 12:31 AM

@jayballer67 said in Assistant Coach Roberts was... "soft":

@SlickRockJayhawk said in Assistant Coach Roberts was... "soft":

Just checking in to Buckets after the weekend. I think it begs to be said that Norm Roberts was soft in how he handled his coaching duties during the games.

We have come accustomed to hearing Coach Self use that adjective to describe the team when they aren't giving it their all.

There would be no other way to describe Coach Roberts game demeanor than SOFT. And he didn't step up to the plate when Coach Self and the Team needed him to tear into the players when they got off to a decent lead against Arkansas and then let them back in the game so Ark could gain their confidence.

Very poor job by Coach Roberts. Lacked intensity, fire and sense of urgency. Soft.

My only question to what you said is - - How do you know he didn't tear into them? Was you there in the team huddle during that time? - -Just curious.

Hog Wild Game Thread β€’ Mar 19, 2023 02:28 PM

@BShark said in Hog Wild Game Thread:

Bill out + Dajuan being hurt for the 2nd half were the keys to the loss.

I am just amazed no one has mentioned our numerous stupid fouls. McCullar 80 ft from the basket gets his 4th, Udeh forgot how to set picks, KJ trying to body a guy away, Joe
or Pettiford drives right into someone after passing for a layup.... Our freshman big seemed panicky, our POY wasn't getting open. Way too many missed FTs. And our PG hobbled. Had to play Ejiafor and Zach, neither of whom could get anything done. Our backup little guards just ran around kind of mindlessly. 5 pts, 0 assists, 1 rebound, 1 steal in 15 mins of PT.

During the entire game we seemed lost when Ark played like a longer version of Shaka's "Havoc" team. We didn't see that combo of size/length/agility and aggression in the Big 12. We actually got sped up and the fouls crippled our normal game. When DjH lost his go to guy KJ, he wasn't able to find anyone who could make a basket. 1 assist for him in the 2nd half.

All the people saying Norm didn't adjust in the 2nd half...how would you know when the players make so many crucial mistakes?

Sometimes, like chess, the winner in bb is the one who makes the next to the last mistake.

All that said....I loved this team for overachieving so entertainingly all year. All teams that lose have had issues bringing them down. I won't remember yesterday, though. I will remember the comebacks, the beaming smiles, the pride in a NC last year, and that type of thing. Yeah, we lost yesterday...and the sun rose today and I got to see it for yet another day!

Rock chalk!

Hog Wild Game Thread β€’ Mar 19, 2023 02:24 AM

@Crimsonorblue22 @Texas-Hawk-10 I thought it was a good call, so I went back to check. Here are two pictures of the call. In both, the shot clock is showing 20 seconds (but doesn't show tenths of a second). Harris's feet are both clearly in the backcourt in the first picture, and his left foot is clearly down in the front court in the second (and the ref is starting to signal the violation). But the shot clock is still showing 20 seconds.

Time obviously elapsed as he stepped over the line. If 20 is showing, I assume it means a few tenths more than 20 are left, and thus less than 10 have elapsed before that foot was down.

So the ref was wrong, by a few tenths perhaps. But it is really so close, and coaches never want a player to let a ref make that call.

Great write-up on FDU-Purdue, by Myron Medcalf of ESPN:

Don't try to figure this out. Don't search for anything that predicted this. Nothing predicted this. Prior to its 63-58 win over Purdue -- just the second time a 16-seed has won a game in men's NCAA tournament history -- FDU was 298th on KenPom. 298th. This is a team that had 12 -- 12! -- losses to sub-200 KenPom teams. This is a team that shouldn't even be in the tournament.

And then, the most amazing upset in NCAA history happened. (Sorry, UMBC.) Zach Edey finished 7-for-11 with 21 points. But Tobin Anderson strategized to limit the projected Wooden Award winner's touches by sending every person who had ever attended FDU at the 7-foot-4 star. The rest of Purdue's team finished 12-for-42. The gamble worked, and now Sean Moore (19 points) and the Knights will be legends forever.
