@kjayhawks 100% agree with your assessment. I think Self is hands down the best regular season coach. Period.
Not even top 25 in the post season.

Except the Wizard was at least a decent guy. He talked a big game, but his heart was in the right place.
The NCAA - "Some people without brains do an awful lot of talking, don't you think?"

@FarmerJayhawk What exactly are blue and gray shirts?
When mixed with some red and white, those are the horrid uniforms that we wore for part of this past season.
Who was the "Bigs" coach when Wilt was there?
That dude gets my vote.
@jhawk7782 I think he was just saying to coach the "Bigs", not be THE coach. If I read it right, I would get on a plane, rent me a car with a lot of legroom and drive Danny back to Lawrence on my own dime.
If not, then I'm with you - I don't want him as our head coach.
@DoubleDD REAL biggest reason - we get a 50 point win.:beaming_face_with_smiling_eyes:
@BShark I don't see us winning another game this season. Maybe ever.
@Hawk8086 You're right. He did not do very well at all at KU. I believe a large part of it was that he struggled mightily with his grades?
Since I am bored senseless at work today, here's a Nino report:
Samuel moved to Salina in December 1969 and joined the team as a sophomore. He played in 16 games in the 1969-70 season, averaging 12.8 points and 11.1 rebounds a game to help Salina High win the Central Kansas League title for the first time since the mid-1950s.
A year later, in its first year as Salina Central High School, Samuel was a key player in the Mustangs run to the 1971 Class 4A state title. His scoring average improved to 23.5 points a game, he was named most valuable player of the 4A state tournament and was selected Kansas Player of the Year.
By now every opponent knew of Samuel's talents, but could do little to stop him. As a senior his scoring average soared to 31.1 points a game and he was again named Player of the Year in Kansas. In perhaps his most impressive performance, he scored 54 points and had 18 rebounds in a five-point semifinal win over Garden City at the McPherson Invitational. The Mustangs returned to the state tourney for the third consecutive year, but were eliminated in the opening round, where Samuel had 14 points and 19 rebounds in his final game.
After high school, Samuel played for the University of Kansas and Marymount College. He later played professionally for Athletes in Action, the Las Vegas Dealers and for a team in the Philippines.
@HighEliteMajor Lol - took me a minute!!

@Kcmatt7 KC has some great breakfast places too - Big Biscuit, Kate's Kitchen, The Corner Cafe, First Watch, Blue Bird Bistro - to name just a few.
Honestly, KC is an underrated place for foodies, imo.
Our son lives in KC and we visit frequently. He has shown us a lot of great restaurants. And you are right - KC is vastly underrated - the BBQ gets some press, but there are SO many great places to eat there.
I can't remember the name of the place, but there's an Indian (no, not Native American....) restaurant in Zona Rosa that is outstanding!
@Kcmatt7 This is a blanket response to all who chimed in - after some consideration, I guess I really don't have any qualms with those guys who, for whatever reason never seem to get on the court and they want to transfer. Walk ons, whatever - I get that.
I was thinking more of the high profile guys who transfer. The guys that KU has invested a lot of time and money into recruiting them. They pronounce their undying love for KU - oh, the history, the tradition, Allen Fieldhouse, blah blah blah. Oh, by the way - screw you guys, I'm transferring.
I feel the same way about OAD's. You sign with KU, I want you here for 4 years. LOL.

YOU LIVE IN MANHATTAN ???
@jayballer73 I got to see Nino Samuel play on a regular basis when he was in High School. I was in 6th or 7th grade or so and if I remember, Nino was about 6'5" and looked like Mr Universe. And oh my goodness, the fellow could JUMP. I was disappointed that he didn't turn out to be the next Michael Jordan, but he sure seemed like it in High School.
OK, apparently I'm not as nice of a guy as I think I am. When athletes (football or basketball mainly) leave KU, 99% of the time I'm like "Don't let the door hit you in the butt".
Most others on this site seem to have the warm and fuzzies for them whether they leave or not. I don't get it. I guess if they transfer to the St Francis Xavier's Green Herald International School in Bangladesh - ok, I'll get over it.
But what if they transfer to a school that we may face later in the year? In the Final Four maybe? Or what if they tranfer to K-State?
Convince me not to be scorned.
@dylans Hopefully in the years to come, one will be able to quit easily as we will not be a laughingstock any more. ??
Buh-Bye
@approxinfinity Thank you, brother for making this a great place to vent, brag, rejoice, cry and sometimes argue and whine. Your efforts are greatly appreciated.
@dylans Up until about 5:30 - 6:00 last night, I would have agreed with you. But, for the first time in his career, I felt like he was starting to show his age. He was looking slower, frustrated and tired (of getting knocked on his butt).
Regardless, it was a good day to be a Chiefs fan.
He just needs to form some muscle memory - this is the scientifically proven best method:
Put your left foot in
Your left foot out
Your left foot in
And shake it all about
You do the hokey pokey
And turn yourself around
Then repeat with the right foot, left and right arms. Should see drastic improvement right away.
Attention Patriots fans:
1) The sky IS falling.
2) The Empire is crumbling.
@Crimsonorblue22 He's a strange duck.
@Crimsonorblue22 I don't do twitter, but I know if there's something about W-Suck-U and it's greasy, whiny, chicken****, slimeball coach - it's got to be something slamming him.
Yay!!
It's not silly at all. I think the uniform that a team steps out onto the field with says a lot. For instance, I almost threw up when we had the red/grey/blue/white "uniforms" that looked like somebody's grandma stayed up late on Friday night to make because they had to have something to wear on Saturday.
As sad as it is to say, I also have an extreme hatred for the Foghorn/Leghorn stupid looking chickens on the helmets. HATE THEM.
The Blue or White Uni's with the KU on the helmet - nice. Not great, but nice. I wish we would come up with some radical badass change - ie; like K-State going from the Willie the Wildcat (Wile e Coyote) cartoon to the powercat. You don't think that gave their players a boost? Not their fans, because they're too stupid, but the players had to feel much better about the powercat.
I also believe that in Synder's tenure, K-State probably would have won at least 2 National Championships if they had worn black uniforms instead of the stupid purple ones.
Rapid Improvement Program
Well, I've been a KU fan long enough that my football expectations are very realistic. Personally, I was very satisfied with 3 wins (should definitely have been 5 - Texas and Coastal Carolina). But I'm very hopeful for the future.
Les - find us a QB !!!
@FarmerJayhawk LSU, Clemson, Alabama and Ohio St can all breathe a sigh of relief for another year or two.
@dylans Thank you! That makes me feel much better! Lol.
Actually, Lol-ing aside, for me there are two people in KU sports history that I consider to be the best of all time in their respective sports.
Wilt Chamberlain
Gale Sayers
I don't think the world will ever see any others like them. Everybody knows about Wilt. Maybe Gale didn't get the worldwide shock and awe that Wilt did, but I've seen video of him (I was only about 6-7 years old when he went to the NFL) but he was incredible. He had moves that couldn't be made! Lightning quick, jitterbug moves AND power. Dang it - I'm ready to put on my Sayers jersey right now.
I think their pass defense is improving. IMO, the rush defense is pathetic. Allowing Oakland 5 yards per carry - that isn't going to get them very far into the post season.
If the Oakland offensive "gurus" had a collective brain in their heads, they would have taped Carr's right arm to his side and only allowed him to hand off the ball.
While I was reading the above article - trying to debunk it because of Gale Sayers (I was wrong, as usual) - I did see an interesting / depressing side note when researching this story. When Sayers was drafted out of Kansas, he was picked by Chicago and Kansas City. After discussing it with his wife, they chose Chicago. I never knew this, or I probably wouldn't have rooted for him in the NFL. At least not as much.
@jhawk7782 Our record doesn't really show it, but the last second, 2 point game AT Texas, and really about 3 other close games makes me feel like we're definitely headed in the right direction.
If we can find a decent QB....
I didn't read the article, but haven't we ALL said this ALL season long? Stanley might be a nice kid but he's not a D-1 QB.
Oh yeah. Great defense too.
Sorry, still not a Stanley fan. Has missed at least four wide open TD passes because he can only focus on one receiver.
I am the least qualified person, maybe in the world to talk about politics. I don't follow it, I don't understand it and (I'm not un-american) I can't stand politics.
Having said that, I have always had a problem with Donald Trump - waaaaaaaay before he was President. Now he just embarrasses me. And hopefully this country.
@justanotherfan But isn't it a great problem to have to be all out of sorts offensively and be 9-1?
To me, it's either you're a class act or you're a dick.
OR - you're a class act named Dick.
@Kcmatt7 The Ravens DO look very strong right now. But the Patriots know how to win. It's in their DNA. Like KU winning 14 Big 12's in a row. Brady's won - 97 or so Superbowls. My money is on them.
@Kcmguy, I'm not trying to be that guy, I love the Chiefs- but the best team in week 18 is going to be the Patriots. I hate it, they make me puke. But that's how I see it.
So great of the KC defense to be on board with the whole Mexican theme last night.
dia de los Muertos
They still suck
Win or lose - CHIEFS SUCK!
They remind me of KU football, except I have hope for KU.
@BShark I definitely could start for the Chiefs so called defense. Pay me 20 million to not tackle anybody.
@mayjay I personally feel like he did it just because he didn't want the game to get out of hand. Thirty years from now he can tell his grandkids " we almost beat KU at Allen Fieldhouse because I never gave up!!!
@HighEliteMajor The way he's holding the ball there, he should be shooting left handed.
@mayjay You're spot on. This can only come from coaching. You remember (don't know how old you are.....) but Roy's teams would get a lead on someone and then streeeeeeeeeeeeeeeetch it. They would stomp on their necks, show no mercy. It was a much more fun style of b-ball to watch, in my opinion. I'll take a 40 point win over a 2 point squeaker anytime.
@jayballer73 - Yes, they were all from Kansas.
I was second guessing my proclamation of how good Jake Sharp was so i looked up some stats - the one that stands out is that he scored the most TD's in one season in Kansas (High School) football history - 63. That's a lot of TD's.
Then I saw Nolan Cromwell (Ransom, Ks) has the record for all time punting - PUNTING - average in Kansas - 51 yds per kick. I didn't even know the dude COULD punt !!
