KU vs Creighton Barrels • Mar 19, 2022 08:01 PM

This is extremely unpleasant.
It's like we have given up on everything that has gotten us to this point in the season.
Offensive game plan? gone
Defend well? gone
Feed the post? gone

I don't understand at all.
It's like Self has said, here's the ball, Remy. take over.

@Jethro - thought I’d saw, too, that KU has had 34 years consecutive years of NCAA tourney bids. Never below an 8 seed, meaning they’ve always played a lower seed during this time. Unbelievable! #JayhawkCrazy!

And it should be more than 34 years! Ridiculous NCAA penalty in the Larry Brown kept us out a year, right?

Remy comes thru. finally. love it. i knew he'd play an important role in a win at some point.
glad to see his confidence growing. Now if he could just figure out where to be on D... :)

Last I saw Lunardi has been updating today and we have moved to a #1 in the Midwest, along with Baylor staying 1.

Just looked, and saw the same thing. There could be some crazy seeding this year.

TCU Triple Play Game Thread • Mar 11, 2022 11:14 PM

Sadly won't be able to watch live. will have to watch tonight.
Hoping everybody comes out hopping with that same energy as yesterday.

Seems like a No. 2 seed is locked and loaded already. I hope we can upgrade to a No. 1 seed, but to a simple mind like mine, dunno how we can be ahead of Kentucky. About same Quad 1 wins so far. 10-5 v 9-6.

But did i see that Auburn lost? maybe No. 1 is locked and loaded then!

Anyway, my point being: play the bench!

Go Hawks!

Wow, some entertaining things happening after Little Boeheim was suspended for punching a dude during the game yesterday.

Jay Bilas going ballistic in junior’s defense. Insane. Big Boeheim must have mob ties or something, since everybody scared to criticize his kid for punching a guy. I don’t get it.

Hmm, if the rumor is true, it must be only about a quarter of a rumor. There's got to be way more punishment -- if there is punishment.
Loss of scholarships, fewer official visits, fines, etc. NC State got all that with the same Level 1 infractions?

If we're punished and it's just Self and Co. can't coach in post season, i'll take it. It means we CAN play in the post season!

that’s ok. one man’s POS is another’s POG (pot o gold).

Not that anybody was counting, but SEVEN missed bunnies today!

that being said, loved his effort today.

Revenge Game Thread • Mar 04, 2022 08:34 PM

@mayjay said in Revenge Game Thread:

Dave had a hurt foot for awhile, but a few games ago it was reported his knee is tweaked, too. It has clearly affected his jumping in all three phases--opening tip, FGs, and rebs.

The FT percentage is a tribute to his hard work and concentration. Without him picking up fouls, we lose. Instead, we have people using what he does right to justify calling him a POS.

What a fuckfest of unappreciative fans.

@mayjay Hey, i'm the only one calling Dave a POS, and it had nothing to do with what he was doing right! :)

Got nothing to do with his FT shooting. I think he's a great shooter from the line. In fact, as i was watching last night, i wondered to myself who i would want on the FT line with the game on the line. Dave was close to the top.

I'm just steamed as i have been for four years now that he can't make a bunny! nothing's changed.

So, as i stated earlier, POS was harsh, but doesn't mean as a fan that i can't be upset with a player for being nearly 7 foot and constantly missing layups. i'm for sure not gonna smile when he does that.

So, apologies for upsetting the board with my language. i know this is a kinder, gentler board.

Revenge Game Thread • Mar 04, 2022 05:51 PM

@approxinfinity ok, so I was a bit on edge after watching that tight game last night! :)
Maybe POS is harsh, but hurt foot or not, it’s extremely frustrating to watch a guy his size miss more layups than he makes (can I get an amen @Kcmatt7 !!) . No complaints about him as a human or about his effort. But It’s obvious he hasn’t matured much (calmed) near the rim since Day 1. Change will be a good thing.

Anyway, glad we won.

Revenge Game Thread • Mar 04, 2022 07:04 AM

Holy smokes that was way too close for comfort.
It was following the exact same pattern as the last game early in the 2nd half.
So glad we sucked it up on D late in the game (no comment on KJ’s near fatal foul).

TCU must be a matchup problem for us!

I’m just gonna say it: the sooner that 6-10 POS Dave McCormack leaves campus, the better.

Sorry. Rock Chalk!

Control our Destiny Game Thread • Mar 02, 2022 05:28 PM

@tis4tim @drgnslayr
All great points. To my simple brain, it seems when we play a team that really defends aggressively, especially the 3 pt line, we struggle a bit.

Even more so when Och is bottled up.

To me, that’s when we really need a guy like Remy to step up and break down the defense.

Control our Destiny Game Thread • Mar 02, 2022 06:40 AM

To summarize...
Dave missed more bunnies than TCU made 3pt shots.

It's March!!!!!!!! • Mar 01, 2022 07:19 PM

Harris has been thu the ringer on this board. Agreed that you can’t have any empty presence on offense. I Was inspired a few games back when he made some floaters and was forced to score. Doesn’t happen often enough.

I think Wilson and Braun are very important. When one of those two has a dud, it really puts the pressure on Och.

It's March!!!!!!!! • Mar 01, 2022 06:23 PM

Maybe just big PGs are a problem for Harris?
Och and Braun (and Wilson) have good size.

I think Big 12 play has somewhat toughened these guys up this year.

We just need to have an answer or two for when teams try to shut down Och.

It's March!!!!!!!! • Mar 01, 2022 05:21 PM

What kind of team do we want to avoid or face in the post season?
Mobile bigs seem to be a challenge.

I'm on record with I didn't want him back and it certainly messed with Yesufu that he was back. That was noticeable

He’s back, which didn’t seem like a difficult prediction.

So, how do we put his skills to use? That’s what a good coach should be able to figure out. Highlight the positives, minimize the negatives.

His positives? Scoring, skill, confidence, making plays outta nothing, quickness.
His negatives? Not understanding how to run the offense, which leads to his constant dribbling, and some aspects of his defense — he seems to have the motivation at times at least.

Put him off ball and call it a day.

Wackos at Waco Game Thread • Feb 27, 2022 08:02 AM

Well, we lost. Ok. That sucks,
But, it really seemed like a bad shooting night did us in.
I saw a ton of effort across the board. A few quick triggers here and there, but not horrendous play.
Even Big Dave was great on the boards, just couldn’t make a layup, as usual.
Surprise! The return of The Dribbler. I still think he helps us at some point.
More KJ!!!

Langford is one of my all time favs.

Anyone think that HCBS might just sit Juan for all or most of one of the 2 TCU games - probably the first on the road? Maybe just semi-concede a game - at least give Joe full run at lead guard and see how the chips fall?

I'm saying nah but it's very intriguing. Lot to like about Joe including his ability to get open looks and his cojoenes.

Yea, agreed. No way Self sits or rests anybody who’s healthy, ever. Sadly it was very clear in the OSU game that Joe cannot lead the offense. He just dribbled around lost when playing PG. that’s ok. The world needs shooting guards too. But we sure could use a backup PG!

Back to Remy...
Unless he’s just physically unable, he’ll be back. He can help this team. What other layers have we ditched midseason? I can’t remember the timeline with LaGerald Vick...

When Remy makes it back... • Feb 15, 2022 06:23 PM

Remy can be a much needed weapon when our offense is struggling.
He can create for himself and get to the bucket.
The weird part is that we rarely have seen it.
Is it Remy trying to fit in or Self holding him back?
I think he’ll be back. Just like most of us didn’t know Bobby or Zach would sneak into a game, Remy will too.

Oklahoma State Game Thread • Feb 15, 2022 06:29 AM

I’d been thinking of it for awhile, but the very second I spoke to the TV and said WTF are our the starters still doing in the game, Fran answered my question. So for all you Fran haters (I’m not), he gave us the scoop and said coaches don’t want to affect the ridiculous NET stats for NCAA seeding by taking out the starters.

Today, I dunno. If Self publicly says our studs need to play way fewer minutes, today was the day. SIX guys only in double digit minutes.

Boomer 2 Game Thread • Feb 13, 2022 12:03 AM

@benshawks08 Yup, not a perfect analogy, i know. The defense at times is an issue, giving up easy baskets. But, if you look at the totals we've given up, it doesn't look bad on paper. In January, we mostly gave up totals in the 60s (ugh, kentucky. shh). In February same except for Texas (79). So, maybe? But, i've said this before, we make one dude look like an All American must about every game. guess that's Self's defensive game plan. lock up every body but X. So, maybe we're looking at the defense in the micro instead of the macro? I dunno. they have their moments.

Och does take a few bad shots when he's feeling like he's left out, but not too many. Him and Jalen can make some bad dribbling decisions, too.

Snowboard cross is very fun too!

Boomer 2 Game Thread • Feb 12, 2022 10:59 PM

Well that didn't look promising in the first half, now did it? yikes.
Bottled up. Defended well.
It seems defenses have caught on to our offense, just like what happened to the Chiefs. Teams started playing that "cover 2 deep" against them, forcing them to dink and dunk. When they had patience, they did well against that D. When not, maybe not so much.

So defenses are doing a similar thing against KU in a way. their "cover 2 deep" is defending the 3 pt line like crazy, and limiting Och from hurting them from afar. And that forces us to dink and dunk inside, and we don't have great dink and dunkers inside. Ahem, Dave.

Not an exact replica, but close.

So, the question is, will HOF Head Coach Bill Self figure out a way to play a better O against those brain stormed Ds we've been facing???

Have the Olympics lost their luster? • Feb 10, 2022 05:38 PM

I think a lot of it this time around is the massive time difference. 16 hours from where I live.
Just makes it way too challenging to figure out what to watch, and when.
As an example, I went to bed last night, and expected some events would be on the DVR when I woke up.
Hmm, not seeing anything. So now I’m wondering if any events I missed simply weren’t televised and were on Peacock streaming??? Tough.

Plus, there aren’t a ton of big, worldwide names in the usual big events — like it or not as in figure skating. That’s the most watched event. By far probably.

The kids probably watch all the snowboarding events. So maybe any of us who are no longer teenagers aren’t into those events as much. I love the snowboard cross. Crazy.

Short track skating is by far my fav event. 500 and 1000M. If u haven’t watched, do yourself a favor and go back and watch. Total chaos and drama. amazing.

Tejas Game Thread • Feb 08, 2022 08:31 PM

So looking at the bigger picture with less angry eyes today ...
There were really no major complaints about last night. texas played excellent defense.
Rarely can i recall saying this about a KU team, but it was a zillion individual things that did us in last night.
Just about each and everybody had their own "oh shit!" moment. a turnover, dumbly dribbling into a crowd with no way out (a trend for Wilson), a bad lob pass, dribbling it of your knee and out of bounds (JCL. who didn't see that coming a mile away?), a great rebound (dave) followed by a WTF how did that happen tie up, Wilson chucking it into Harris' back, and the list goes on and on.
That's it. sums it up.
Not poorly played otherwise IMO.
Ok, we could have done better to get Och open, but i digress.

Tejas Game Thread • Feb 08, 2022 06:14 AM

Wow. Flying in late here as usual, but very pissed off at that totally irresponsible loss.
No question that should have been a win. not an easy win, but a win.
Value the ball and possession a few more times and we fly home happy.
The end of the first half was an absolute joke.
Unforced errors and boneheaded play. incredible.

Texas was amazing the way they guarded and minimized Och. Well played to blanket him and pretty much blanket the 3 pt line. smart D.
And boy are we good at making guys All Americans for a night...eff.
