Most of the Bears have neon yellow leggings to go along with the uniforms. UGLY
Dave Armstrong with the call on KState Baylor.
Nice half for Vick: 6 pts. 2 boards, 2 fouls
K State and Baylor on ESPN News at 2pm. Go cats.
Frank fed the bear; Lando with 6pts 9 rbs
Wow we gave up 38 first half points. They shot 50% 13/26.
Shooting the rock 71%, outrebounding them 18/3; how are we only up by 11?
Come on now, FEED THE BEAR Get Landen the ball
Gotta feed the Lucas bear as soon as possible. Feed the bear
Svi with 10 pts on 4/5 fgs.
ESPN only shows I State with 1 rb. 6/13 FG shooting. How are they in this game? Our 7 TOs?
Landen with 5 rbs
Slow start on both ends, but the passing is getting guys open now.
Lando with the board
@globaljaybird I already have the announcers on mute.
Jackson 4 pts Graham 2
Get Landon involved early, often and all game. He should dominate.
I do hate missing part of our game while the players shake hands and a coach makes a comment. Not fair ESPN
@Bwag I only worry about the W and no injuries.
@Bwag nearly 100% because I'm ready to watch the Jayhawks. ESPN sucks.
Yes the KU Sports article on football recruits was great. Man, I'm ready for the spring game today. I assume these recruits will be at the I State game today. I don't know if that's all positive: they may get the impression we are only a basketball school, instead of a football school.
@Texas-Hawk-10 I sure hope so; I'm tired of being everyone's homecoming opponent. Is Bender already on campus? Working out with the team this spring should give us a jump start on fall practices.
We are definitely headed in the right direction. That last football win created a lot of positive momentum.
I'm most concerned about QB and the defensive secondary. New players in both critical positions, so 2017 is very uncertain.
I've been surprised this year how well opponents are shooting at AFH. I still can't understand how or why Motley disappeared in the second half after playing like an NBA all star in the first half. The man was unstoppable.
I'm hoping for a great game by Lucas today. He's looked fit and motivated the last two games, except for his reluctance to shoot in the first half against Baylor. Jackson is shooting too many 3's, but I guess he has the green light if that's what the defense is giving him. Mason should get back to his 50% form on 3's.
Our defense on Matt Thomas will be crucial, since he's been hitting 3's. I assume Svi and Vick will guard Thomas. Unless I State gets super hot from 3, we should cruise today. Our 3 point defense better be good.
@Texas-Hawk-10 I had forgotten about that call. Do you have a prediction on our starting QB and the style of offense Meacham will install?
It will probably surprise everyone, but I'm not familiar with Central Michigan football. So, I looked at their record last year. They beat Oklahoma State in Stillwater, 30 to 27. They also beat Ohio, who beat us in Lawrence 37-21. Central Michigan had a record of 6 wins and 7 losses and lost to Tulsa in the Miami Beach Bowl game played on Dec 19. It was only the 3rd year for that bowl, but C Mich got to practice and play 3 weeks longer than we did last year.
So after playing SE Missouri, we have two very competitive games against Central Mich and Ohio. I thought our defense played poorly against Ohio last year after the easy win over Rhode Island. By the Tex Tech game, our defense was playing well. If we had played Ohio in late October, I think we would have beaten them. It will be very interesting to see how we do in the nonconference part of our 2017 schedule.
Benton Smith's article featuring Peyton Bender on the KUSports website implies Peyton is already enrolled at KU and will practice this spring. Having Bender and Carter practicing all spring means they will start fall camp fully prepared to lead the offense to more success this season. Tyriek Starks is also a possibility to lead the offense. There are just so many unanswered questions about the direction of the Jayhawk offense in 2017: What style of offense will OC Meacham install? Will Coach Beaty give full control to Meacham? Which QB will emerge as our best option and will it be a huge improvement to the rotation of Cozart and Willis last year?
I have more questions about our offense in 2017 than I did last year. But, changes in coaches and personnel on offense at least gives us a decent chance to make a big improvement over last year and keeps me optimistic for this year.
@BShark Let's look at next year's schedule and figure out wins and losses, shall we?
But we may best support our players by not engaging in the discussion and dissemination of such rumors. Let's let law enforcement and the courts sort out fact from fiction. We only add to the harm by discussing rumors here.
Really, it's a great idea to have more than one identity here. I could take both sides of every issue and argue with myself all day. Some of you would come to the aid of one of my identities and rail against the other. Sounds like fun. One of my identities could get the other banned for life
In their post-game interviews, I thought Coach Drew and the two Baylor players were very respectful of AFH and the game KU played. I didn't hear any of them complain about officiating. Drew talked about his team's deficiencies, as did the two players, Motley and the guard. They were downcast, but not insulting in any way.
@Kcmatt7 Thanks for the clarification.
Is Peyton Bender enrolled for the spring semester at KU? It would really help to have him participate in the spring game. I'm as excited for our spring game as I am for the Monday night basketball game in Manhattan. That is going to be a rumble.
@tis4tim On the last defensive play, remember it was Svi who put pressure on Motley initially knocking the ball loose, then when Motley got it back he was so rushed he made the bad pass that went out of bounds . Svi was outstanding.
I too worry about a Hack-a-Jack(son) defense at the end of a game. There simply must be a way for our coaching staff to prepare Josh for those late-game free throws that will either win or lose the game. Even Svi needs to work on the clutch free throws.
No I haven't seen a player with possession of the ball pass it to himself off the backboard and dunk it. That seems like a travel. Unless, the ref thought it was a shot and a rebound.
Our trio of Jackson, Mason and Graham just refuse to lose. What a great win. Despite missing clutch free throws down the stretch, our guys found a way to win. It's not always pretty, but Coleby and Lightfoot gave us some valuable minutes.
I thought Josh should have been in the paint more when Baylor had it's zone set and we were running our half court offense. When Josh got the ball in the paint, he was unstoppable. I thought that too often he was hanging around on the wing instead of flashing through the lane for the guards to feed. But, I feel bad criticizing his game at all when he just led us to our most important win of the year.
I give a lot of credit to the Baylor players and Coach Drew for playing damn well at Allen. If our trio of unstoppables hadn't played their best, Baylor would be leading the Big 12 now.
I know our basketball team is dominating all thoughts on and unfortunately off the court, but let's talk up 2017 Jayhawk football and get ready for the Spring game in two months.
Wow, Coach Beaty and staff have really jump started our program. This new group of Jayhawks is going to be fun to watch. The story of our 2017 campaign will be how well do QB's Peyton Bender and Carter Stanley operate the 2017 offense under new OC Doug Meacham? We have many exciting options at running back, but will they fit in with the Air Raid offense Coach Beaty desires to run. Tons of talent at the wides, but do we have a QB who can get the ball to them?
Even though we lost very talented defensive backs to graduation, I'm excited to see Sophomore Mike Lee and the new guys, Hasan Defense, Antonio Cole and Robert Topps continue what Coach Bowen has been building. Our defense was pretty good last year (9th in scoring defense at 37.3) and kept us in most games. If it holds steady and the offense finally produces more than 20.2 points a game (last in the Big 12), we will start winning Big 12 games.
I can't wait to see how Liam Jones does on field goals and extra points. Matthew Wyman was steady last year with 13/19 field goals (tied for 5th in Big 12) and perfect on extra points, but he missed a couple of FG's that could have won us two more games.
Who else are fellow posters excited to see take the field in 2017? Rock Chalk Baby
Baylor's offense has run some nice plays. Jackson is losing his man on the switches.
Baylor has 11 offensive RB's and we are shooting 35%. Kinda tells the story
Motley can't miss at the moment. 3 defenders and he makes it look easy
Baylor's got it working right now. Killing us on the boards
Is everyone at the game tonight. Only a few of us here
@StLJhawk Coleby had a pretty ugly shot a few possessions ago.
Ouch 4 Baylor rebounds on that possession. That goodness for the travel.
Another 6 PM game going to OT before our 8 PM game on ESPN. And there's an official review. This sucks.
Thanks for posting the entire game. I can't get the hang of posting images on here.
The 5th foul call on Lucas at the 1:23:17 chaps my backside. There really needs to be an internal review by each league's officials after each game to eliminate as many bad calls as possible. I say three bad calls during the season and the ref is reassigned to the concession stand. Where in the hell was the foul on Lucas? In a slightly different game, that could have cost us the win.
@brooksmd The Wizard of OZ characters have been showing up at a lot of our games. Opposing students are having fun and I love it. I saw the characters at the Iowa State game, but they didn't have a tin man. At least UK students were creative enough to include the tin man. Iowa State had Coach Self's face on the Dorothy character. What a hoot.
I've suggested to my freshman daughter that she and her dorm friends dress as prison inmates for the Baylor game using the obnoxious yellow and green colors as the stripes. She wasn't as impressed with the idea as I was. I can't wait for our Jayhawks to tear the Bears apart on Wednesday.
@Texas-Hawk-10 I should have mentioned the continued connections and positive influences of BMac, Wigs and the others. I was limiting my comment just to the 4 year guys and how I connect to them over the longer period of time. I love watching Josh and I know he too will continue to support KU after he joins the NBA.
