Lock down now on D and get a couple run outs
Here we go!
Hot the freebies
Boom!
Now or never fellas. Make the run!
Uh, yeah.
Oof.
Providence too cocky.
Wilson
Ok. Scratch game. Who wants it more?
Hope they were saving it for the last 8. Bill better remind them they go home with a loss.
Just getting here. Had kid’s soccer practice. Looks like we started ok but typical everyone is cold simultaneously thing now, eh?

Line down to 7 in Vegas.
I guess a lot of people aren't sold on Providence as a good bet. Jayhawks by double digits.

I don’t honestly think there is some conspiracy to get K the title or keep KU out
I used to be of the belief that my conspiratorial thought was the stuff of the tin foil hat crowd. But with the sheer amount of money and advertising and eyeballs that are necessary to make the engine go anymore, there is most definitely a need to control the narrative to maximize that gain.
To what level that is I don't know, but you see it with constant tinkering of the rules in sports, how they call games, the precedence given to certain schools in relation to the clearing house, the expediency of legal proceedings, etc. And who doesn't like a good storyline in their sports? Throw legalized gambling into the mix and what you have is a powder keg of things ready to send purists into a conniption fit.
In all honesty, I think the powers that be often have their heart in the right place when they meddle with things, the ultimate goal to make the game "better". I'm just not sold that "better" refers to the game itself, but all the residuals that come from it.
Last but not least, I think Duke wins the NC. It's too good a story. After last night's results, I'm even more sold on the idea. I hate that team with every fiber, but with Coach K leaving and having flamed out in the regular season and post-season tourneys, the fruit is just too low for the media to ignore. Oh, and with a chance to get revenge on UNC in the Final Four along the way? My God! What a ratings bonanza! :money-mouth_face: :face_vomiting:
@mayjay, @benshawks08 - I think that's about the only silver lining I can find: that we still have a chance to stick the dagger in ourselves. Why let others have all the fun?
Look at K. Probably Telling all the tech kids they are “better than that”. What a pompous MF.
F*ck. Let the slobberfest begin. God, I hate Duke.
Duke is going to win the NC. You can see it coming a mile away. It’s all setting up so perfectly and it’s nauseating to watch.
Crumbled in the last 3 minutes. Damn it.
Travel.
How is that a no-call on that last three from Tech?
@Gorilla72 said in Sweet 16 Chat:
Seems like Duke starts getting the calls when they’re more a a few down….
No “seems like” about it. It’s one of the worst-kept secrets in sports.
@FarmerJayhawk said in Sweet 16 Chat:
Lol Banchero didn’t even get touched
Was just about to say the same thing. Going to see more of ref help in the 2nd half guaranteed.
@FarmerJayhawk said in Ochai Agbaji:
@tis4tim yeah, Bill is one of the most personable and charismatic people you’ll ever meet. I saw him once walking around my neighborhood while I was out with my dog and we had a good talk about football of all things.
That's really cool. I don't get to rub elbows with people like that too often though I recently got to chat some with Ralph Sampson - yeah, that one.
He just opened up a new restaurant concept in Charlottesville, VA and we mostly talked music. Really nice guy, though I cringe a bit thinking about our conversation, since I inadvertently brought up the knee injury that derailed what should have been a productive and lengthy career. I don't think he minded, but one of those things like locking your keys in your car where you realize what's happening and you're powerless to stop it!

Amazing. As the first graduate of the Commandant of the Marine Corps Court Reporter School circa July 1970 I salute your ability to write long offerings to these threads. I cannot type worth a flip anymore due to loss of control over my hand movements. It takes a bit of effort and time so spelling and grammar adherence slip past me like a Remy Martin drive. Admiration and respect to you and the others.
Thank you, sir, for your service. And I'm not one of those grammar N@zis that points out others' foibles, especially in this kind of forum where sometimes one has to type quickly to avoid detection in the workplace!
Don't know if you were here during @jaybate-1-0's heyday as a lurker before becoming a regular participant, but you want to talk about lengthy posts! I don't know who the guy is/was or where he studied or what, but talk about someone with a seemingly vast depth of knowledge about damn near everything. Sometimes blurred that line between genius and madness, but he did make you think.
Good times.

Just feels like K will get all the help he can get to make it to the FF.
Change Final Four to Championship and that's how I feel about it. Perfect little storybook ending to a perfect little storybook career. :face_vomiting:
@Jethro said in TONIGHT'S PICKS:
I'm willing to go 0-4 just so the teams I want to win will win, and the teams I want to lose will lose. I'm calling for both the 1 seeds to get run tonight. I have:
Arkansas over Zaga
Houston over Az
TTU over Dook
Nova over Mich
I'm going with the Hawg's quickness to overwhelm Zaga
Houston will knock off AZ. No late BS ref call can save them against the Coogs.
TTU will spank Dook.
Nova is just too disciplined for Michigan. They win by 12.
I like how you think. I'd be satisfied going 0-the remainder of the tournament as long as bloody Duke loses.

@tis4tim I'm terrible with names. It's definitely something I wish I was better at.
That said, when making a multi-million dollar pitch, there is no excuse for the message and materials to be polished. That's something anyone can do.
I was certainly never great with them until I made more of a conscious effort to learn them. It really has served me pretty well in dealing with clients and the public at large.
Funny, but when I call clients or really any business for that matter they often have a litany of information they put in their greeting, like "Hey, thanks for calling such and such where a little of this and a little of that is the way we do things here...yada yada...sliced bread, my name is Mumbly Joe can I help you?" kind of thing.
I generally have to try really hard to pluck out the name of the person I'm speaking with from all the noise. Sometimes I ask them to repeat their name if it is completely unintelligible because it does make a difference.
OK. Back to basketball-related things!
Many of you are basketball people with a much more vast repository of knowledge than I, so you all may know this story, but I would wager it's one of the more expensive name screw ups in history. I ran out of time to type it a bit earlier.
When Stephen Curry was being courted by the shoe companies years ago it was all but assumed he would be a Nike guy. He wore Nike throughout his entire career at Davidson and the first few years in the league. His godfather worked for Nike. So, when Nike came and pitched Stephen the executive kept pronouncing it Steph-ON instead of Steph-EN.
Stephen's Dad, Del, wasn't taken aback so much by that as he was that a correction never came. That was all it took for Stephen to sign with Under Armour, a HUGE financial boon for UA and a huge whiff on the part of Nike, which has cost them handsomely over the long haul. I suppose I should mention that, in addition to the name flub, one of the Powerpoint slides in the presentation still had Kevin Durant's name in the text.
I mean, Stephen was not the phenom he eventually would become at that point, but I simply don't know how errors like that are missed by those in the know. Being a copy writer in a former life I know I'm a bit more sensitive to language and to proof-reading (and don't get me started on people misusing apostrophes and turning a plural noun into a possessive) but how these things are allowed to slide at a professional level I'll never know.
Perhaps @BShark or @JAYHAWK214 or @FarmerJayhawk or @BeddieKU23 can comment on this if they would like, but I've heard that Bill Self has an almost photographic memory for names. Word is he can meet you and then run into you sometimes years later and still remember your name. That is a gift and I'm sure it has served him well over the years. I have put my kids into various leagues and activities over the years simply because those in charge took the time to learn their names after just a single visit.
Anyway, I don't mean to belabor the point, but names are so important as it's about the only thing each person truly owns. Taking the time to learn someone's name shows that you cared enough to do so, which can make a big impression as Nike found out.
It really is amazing that “journalists” cannot be bothered to even know anything about the team or players they are interviewing. One of my pet peeves in sports.
The world is constantly on their smart devices and carry them around everywhere. I’ve seen any number of people trying to text while riding their bikes it’s so pervasive. Yet this dude can’t take 5 seconds to do a google search of the Jayhawks’ roster to make sure he gets a name right.
Had I been Ochai I would have ended the interview as the guy clearly can’t be bothered to do any prep work and it’s tantamount to a slap in the face, IMO. Ochai is a better man than I would have been to put up with that.
No receiver is worth QB money. That said it’s kinda sad to lose Tyreek. Good luck in Miami with Tua.
To opposing teams, Remy is like facing a fastball pitcher the night after dealing with a knuckleballer.
34.7% shooting for TCU. Kind of surprising the game was this close. That was the difference. The rest of the stats are pretty even.
Put a body on someone.
Don’t need a three here, but you know they’ll take it.
Get a rebound. Jeez.
Um, tilt your head back to stop the bleeding.
39 FT attempts for Purdue to 11 for UT. Preposterous not only in differential but total attempts.
Texas toast.
F*ck Duke.
Not going to get to watch any of the game now unfortunately. Had a hard stop at 2:30. Sending good vibes to the boys and to everyone on this board. Rock Chalk and hope to see you all next week in the S16!
3:30 Eastern.

How tall is their new 5 man? Creighton
Not 7’1”. And not Big East defensive POY. That’s all I know!
UNC underseeded even though they were horrible early in the year. Tough 2nd round game for Baylor.
So missed OOB call. 2 seconds away from possible review and second chance score. Ballgame.
Teams are waiting way too long to start a play at the end of halves. Waiting until 5 seconds isn’t going to get you anything. Plus no time for a drive and foul or a put back on a miss.
What is with last second attempts? You call a time out and that’s what you draw up? A 30-footer?
KU gonna be delayed again
Seton Hall travels on pretty much every possession.
