@nuleafjhawk Bingo! Sarcasm was intended, but I actually thought it'd be fun to see what happens if I write "Fire Self"! It was fun, but your football is manlier than basketball crap is true. Now if the players went back to wearing shorts that you know just extended below the buttocks like God intended them to, then basketball would be considered a manly sport again.
I always crack up at the everyone's doing it excuse. That's admitting guilt. When we're at that stage, we deserve whatever the penalty is. I'm still miffed at this as I was thinking everything had been resolved.
Fire Self.
So Yahoo tells me "Major violations at KU" "Lack of institutional control". So I click on the article and I see the same old stories. Preston, who never played for us obviously, and Silvio's 2500 dollar story. That's all they mentioned. Why does this crap keep coming up against us when it appears it's been taken care of? I've never been one saying the NCAA is out to get us, but it sure makes me wonder now.
Maybe we could agree to vacate that final four beatdown by Villanova in which Silvio played and we can call it even.
Yeah, this is kind of like going back to the 80's and 90's when we didn't get to watch all the games. I've gotten so accustomed to watching everything that it's kind of discouraging. I doubt the Big 12 starts their own network like the BIG but I really like that. They get to do any game ESPN doesn't want.
Ouch!
Duke, it sickens me to say was very young when they beat Wisconsin.
I'm kind of in @dylans camp on this one. While it would be fabulous to win a bunch of games, or at least not be embarrassed in any games, I'm way too much of a fairweather fan of Jayhawk football to really get worked up about it. I could probably go back and name 50 losses on the basketball court in my 30 years of Jayhawk fandom that are more difficult to swallow than losing to Coastal Carolina, which if I cared, would be a really bad one.
@jayballer73 I'm going to see the soccer team Friday night in Evanston play Northwestern!
@nuleafjhawk Dang, Danny just needed 49 points against Oklahoma in the championship game and he'd have scored 3000!
@BeddieKU23 I hadn't noticed 'the list' before, but to put Selden on there surprises me. He was a 3 year player, came in highly regarded obviously, and came into his own his junior year. He had a lot of really good moments that last season in particular. Selden is getting some decent playing time in the league too which is nice.
I'm teaching this kid in 8th grade. Let's lock him up now!
It's also the name of a Supper Club in Wisconsin where my wife and I dined on our honeymoon!
Will be interesting to see how Dorian affects the Chanticleers this week. They're right in a potential path of that nasty storm.
@jhawk7782 Saw him play live enough that I don't think we missed out, although I really wanted him to come to KU. Glad he's at DePaul. They were one of my original teams I followed in the Ray Meyer days with Mark Aguirre, Terry Cummings, Curtis Watkins among others who almost took out Larry Birds team in the final four.
@BeddieKU23 My inside source on Adam Miller (his mother) no longer works with me, but her friends tell me KU is no longer his top 5. Two Arizona schools for some rea$on that is a my$tery. If they're wrong, we're getting a great player.
@mayjay You don't trust my judgment?
@Bwag Agree on Richard Scott. Which game are you referring to with Langford hurt and poor officiating?
My wife
@hawkmoon2020 Nice link. Player I referenced above all knucklehead Lincoln Minor. Wow, he was 0-17 on 3's before getting booted. I'd boot him too!
@Jayballer54 Kevin Pritchard was primarily the point guard.
@jayballer73 Turgeon was already gone by '88. Danny was the point guard, small forward, shooting guard, power forward and center on that team.
@KUSTEVE I forget who it was but someone got kicked off the 88 championship team. That's all time knucklehead there. Clint Normore went from an anonymous KU football player to a semi legendary basketball player because of it. The Morris bros were semi knuckleheads as well.
@HighEliteMajor BMac, technically not a OAD, and Joel are really the only OAD's I ever cared for.
@KUSTEVE I agree. That 91 team was not loaded with NBA talent. Yet they came close.
@KUSTEVE I do, even had a cup of coffee in the NBA with the Bulls. He and Richard Scott made a great front court on the 91 near champions.
Band concussions. All kinds of scenarios running through my mind! It's interesting too that the rates of concussions among girls compared to boys is quite staggering. Just in raw numbers, there are more girls concussed in every sport except one where both sexes participate and that's wrestling which of course has more male participants. Every other sport has more female concussions in raw numbers and rates. Of course football blows them all away.
@dylans Silly list. Jordan played for North Carolina.
They could call them the Kansas City Omaha Kings.
Since I became a Jaywhawk in '85. Danny, and then everyone else. I'm not sure if people who didn't watch him day in and day out realize how good of a player he was. At the time people were comparing his skill set with Magic Johnson. Of course Danny didn't have the flair of Magic, but he was every bit as good in college. After the great players of '86 left, Danny carried that team maybe like no other player ever has since Wilt. I'd put Pierce at 2, Chalmers at 3 for his clutch gene, Collison, then Frank, then Kirk, then Simien, then Joel, then Sherron, and oh I guess Brandon Rush last in my top 10. But we've had so many to choose from!
@jayballer73 Yeah, the kiss of death! We've had that numerous times unfortunately. But Self has built a team that deserves a ranking like that....we hope.
@KUSTEVE I hope you're right, which is silly to say, because aren't you the one who is always right?
@bcjayhawk Ha, I'd like to think it was me too!
Yaz' grandson tearing it up right now for SF.
@approxinfinity Not to rub salt in an ever growing wound, but Giolito shutout Minny today on 3 hits. 12 k's, no walks. He has 3 CG shutouts this season now, which leads baseball!
@approxinfinity I was amazed when I looked up his stats and saw he's only 29.
When the Sox signed him over the winter, I thought we were going to be getting a slightly on the decline former superstar reliever. Thru early May he was superb. He was the guy I remember torturing the Sox for the most part of this decade.
He's only 29 years old which surprised me as I saw it.
But, he has apparently lost it. He has an ERA around 8 for the season. He seemingly gets shelled in every high leverage situation, situations where he used to be lights out. Sad to see a formerly great reliever struggle so badly, particularly when he's on my team! Hoping he finds what he lost.
11 years of living in LA, and particularly with my work in the inner city, gave me a close up view of current racial disparities, slights, and overt racism. From the north where I'd moved from I was curious to see it up close, although hoping I wouldn't see it. We witnessed white families moving out of our new middle class subdivision because it was largely African American. Our kids had classmates ask why they lived in the ghetto. We got the last laugh by making a nice profit on our house when we sold 11 years later. Sports was another area where it persists. I watched a referee whistle 7 fouls on our team in the first 2 minutes of the 2nd half. We were winning by 10 against the 2nd ranked team in the state, but schools from the 9th ward are not allowed to beat 20,000$ a year private school kids so the refs took care of it. I also watched another rich kid private school create a mud bath out of our sideline for our football game against them, even though we were 2nd ranked in the state.
Sadly, I could go on but you get my point. Anything else I add would just be lagniappe, or a little bit extra.
@bcjayhawk I lived in Louisiana Cajun country for 11 years and became a user of the word Lagniappe, and an eater at Lagniappe Restaurant but only once because the food was crappy. I like the word lagniappe, rolls off the tongue, and I can make puns off of it like I put my ID on my lagniappe (instead of course, my lanyard).
White Sox 4-3 against the Yankees and Astros this year. They're not too good against some other teams though!
@HighEliteMajor We're (Sox) in the 3rd year of a rebuild and it's been painful and there's question marks whether it will really lead us to glory like the Royals and Astros, and Cubs. Sox are pantsing the Tigers right now and when it's over the Tigers record will be 32-77. They are on pace for a historically bad season. Heck if they go .500 in their remaining 51 games they will still only win 57 games, and they are highly unlikely to play .500. It's bad for baseball. This team sucks. They're a bunch of no names, but apparently Detroit has a good farm system.
What shocks me is how quickly the Royals slunk back into bad baseball. Even though they're a rival to me I hope they don't go another 25 years before another playoff birth like they had.
@KUSTEVE Didn't know you were a Stros fan. They are indeed a powerhouse. They come up here next week to play the Sox. I might go. I like watching them play.
@nuleafjhawk I've always liked you, but not so sure anymore. Your disparaging of the national pastime is chagrining me.
@mayjay Yeah, one of those classes you suggest should be "How not to blow 100 million dollars by the time you retire".
It's pretty logical, although the kid is still misguided in my view by missing out on a magical year of basketball.
It seems the controversy in the article is Garrett's PPG. I think he has that potential as a slasher. Last year was so whacky that he just never could fill a role that matched his skill sets. He of course is quite athletic and has shown ability to get to the rim. I'm really hoping Doke can lead the team in scoring and DDot is an assist machine with a nice scoring average to go with it. That means we're humming along offensively.
Terrific stuff!
Hoping they make it to Chicago for the quarters. This is something it'd be fun to watch.
@mayjay Good to see you sir. You've missed a lot. We went from having like zero players returning next year to now we have to figure out who to redshirt!
